Vacationers, please be aware that this hotel is located in the worst part of SF in terms of drug use and homelessness. Most people might know that, but this was news to me. That said, this location is close to a lot of attractions and good food since it is in the heart of downtown. My partner and I weren’t particularly inconvenienced by this but i think its good for people to be aware of, especially families since you will see EVERYTHING you don’t want a child to see. Other than that this hotel isn’t HORRIBLE. I just thought the room was uncomfortably tight, particularly the bathroom, where i struggled to do my makeup. Service was overall good!

Our stay was an interesting one. The front desk are friendly, and the rooms were small but tidy and nice. My only gripes -the restrooms are TEENY TINY. Anyone over the size of of a 150lb with any amount of hips will have an annoying time using the toilet. I’ve seen bigger restrooms on buses. -The Cafe. There was a slip of paper in the room advertising the cafe and thought we’d give it a shot. Almost $60 later for 3 portions, everything came in brown paper to go boxes and and it was a miserable sight. The avocado toast was 1. Not toasted 2. The avocado was a sad shade of olive brown 3. Came with 2 sad slices of hard boiled egg. The other 2 things we ordered were about the same quality and effort. I wanted to ask for a refund but they had already closed by the time I got down there. Just skip the cafe and if you’re Kendall Jenner sized, you will probably have a great experience here.

Great experience staying with Courtyard Marriott. Suits my budget for vacations as we were out most of the time. We don't expect a full pledged 5 star holet; it has everything what we need. Great location to all nearby transportation, cafes and shopping. We can't ask for more. Being a hotelier ourselves, we totally understand some challenges. Awesome front dest staff and always with a smile. Special thanks to James and Bryan. Well done.

The rooms were clean But the service is horrible, I have been a Marriott member for years and I have always had a pleasant experience staying at the hotel but this one was not pleasant at all. We forgot an important item in the room. We noticed about a few hrs after leaving I called immediately the front desk individual who answered was nice and advised and confirmed that my item had been found by housekeeper he stated that i could get it shipped as long as i paid for the shipping which I was totally fine. He just said I would get a call from the manager in the morning for my card information. The manager never called. I called a few days later and again I was told manager would call me back. Never did, I then called Marriott customer service and was told they would get in contact with management. 2 weeks later after calling the hotel I get a call that my item was no longer there and there was nothing they could do. Again I called because I had been confirmed countless times that my item was there. Not once did anyone call and every time I called I was told I had to speak to the so called manager who never once did his job.

Service: Front desk personnel was not very pleasant when they said they could not honor a friends & family discount due to an invalid form ID (same form I’ve used several times before with no problem) so I proceed to ask if they could honor a AAA or Military discount since I had those, and they said no and unwilling to work with me in any way. I have never had this experience with any other Marriott & was extremely disappointed in how the manger was inflexible. Room: too small an no bathroom counter space, no room service & no complementary breakfast The ONLY decent thing about this hotel is location - would not recommend & will not stay here again, decided to check out after 1 night!

Service was very friendly every time we spoke to them. Only reason for the 3 is the air conditioning was so beyond loud that it made it difficult to sleep soundly. The location of the hotel was on the edge of the Tenderloin but overall we felt safe and found it to be a good central location. Valet parking prices are a bit exorbitant.

I am currently staying at this hotel with my husband and son. We made the drive from San Diego to stay here for three nights. The hotel itself is nice. The rooms were cozy and nice, hotel staff was friendly. We have an awesome city view from our room. The bad: Upon arrival, I asked about parking and I was told that there is valet parking for $69 a night and then I was told about a parking garage that they highly recommend that is around the corner and it is called State Garage. State Garage was $40 a night so to try and save us some money we decided to go with that parking garage and especially since it was highly recommended by the hotel staff… They even gave us a flyer. We drive over there and I jam mainly writing this review to warn everybody to PLEASE be very careful with State Garage.. I will give you the short version but we were robbed and we had to call 911 to intervene and once that happened we were able to get our money back. The employee with state garage was incredibly rude, angry and hateful for literally no reason. He made my family and I feel very uncomfortable and legitimately terrified. I will not get into the details of how he was but like I mentioned he robbed us. Once we got back to the hotel and decided to go with valet parking I did notify the employee that checked us in and the following morning I called hotel manager to let him know about the situation. He was very apologetic, and I know that this is not his fault, nor any employee with this hotel but I just figured I would give everyone else a warning about their state garage parking recommendation. It was an awful, awful experience.

The location is ok. In fact, you would miss it as it's due to its size as it's not your normal type of hotel imo. Rooms are very clean and small, and the staff is very friendly. It's a place to sleep, not a place to be pampered.

Helpful and kind! This is my second stay here. My daughter and I felt very safe.Great location down from union square and trolley. The only reason I give it four stars is because the rooms are so tiny beyond two people it is very tight. They have done a great job with this location and have a nice bar and porch and waiting area…. But if I would’ve brought my family of four we would’ve not fit.. So I guess I would label it great but tiny!

Amia was amazing, friendly, and helpful since we had to cancel the other motel we booked. The rooms were clean. I felt completely safe. She told us what parts to stay away from. The bathroom was small, but it was a way better experience than the first motel we checked in to.

I stayed here for one night while passing through San Francisco. My friend had an early flight out the next morning but I was spending the day touring the city. As mentioned in a few other reviews, there were a lot of homeless people nearby but I didn't feel unsafe. I sadly think this is becoming normal in large cities. We also took Uber back to the hotel from the pier at night so we didn't really walk around outside. The staff was all very friendly and offered suggestions on ways to make the most of my one day. They also told me how to get to major tourist attractions such as the cable cars and piers. They are not far, but not close to anything. The hotel's name of "San Francisco Union Square" is a bit misleading because it's a few blocks off of Union Square. And not close to the BART. I had to lug my suitcase about a half mile to catch the airport train. Our room was off on its own in the hallway. When you got off the elevator, all the other rooms were to the right, but ours was to the left and kind of felt like it was in the stairwell. I really can't fault them for using all the available space, I've had odd hallways in many city-based hotels. Just wanted to point this out if you're traveling alone, maybe ask to not have this lone room. Another odd thing about the room was the bathroom door. It was made out of a shadowed glass, so while you couldn't see details you could make out the shadow of someone inside. Obviously I would hope you're traveling with people you trust, but still a little disturbing.

We really enjoyed our stay at this Marriott. We were randomly placed in a wheel chair accessible room but this worked out fine for us since the room was plenty spacious and we were only there when we were sleeping. The reception staff are fantastic and gave us great insight for utilizing public transit and familiarizing us with the area. The hotel is close to the Tenderloin which has lots of nice restaurants and cafes nearby in walking distance. The area has a lot of great Vietnamese food so be sure to look out for that. We overall enjoyed our stay and had a pleasant time.

The place is really nice. The only thing I didn’t like was how much they charge for parking. The parking cost was half of what I paid for the one night stay. I would think they would charge less for guests. It’s just ridiculous. I’ve stayed at other hotels near by and they only charge $25-30 a night for parking.

    - Reception Beware they only can swipe card; chips, applepay, google pay etc is not working. (at least that what the reception told me) I asked the counter staff if there is any other way to pay the deposit. Answer is No. I had given my credit card detail when I made the reservation, yet reception insisted that she needed to swipe my credit card again. Fortunately I found a card with activated magnetic strip. I asked for late checkout, reception advised that I can checkout latest 12PM. Only after I highlighted that as Elite gold member, I am entitled for late checkout reception staff agreed. Cant you even take the effort to check my membership? - Room Torn Curtains, burnt toilet cover (even though it is non smoking room?)

I stayed at this hotel over the past weekend, and my visit throughout was just mid. Starting with the moment we checked in. We requested for an early check in and a handicap supported room for my grandma. We started our check in process around 1:30, when we were told our room was not ready. We were like that is okay. Their check in starts at 3 so we were willing to wait till 3 to ensure we got a handicap supported room. As 3:00 came near, we asked them when our room will be done and they had informed us that the staff got in at 2:30 and they will be done in 10-15 minutes. The check in start time came and went and we were still waiting. The staff members along with staff supervisor, Ada, sat and talked amongst each other not trying to help us. When asked, Ada, would make a big deal and try to guilt into thinking we did something wrong by asking for a handicap accessible. Ada, also did not do anything further to help us. She would ask on her little walker talkie how long it would take only when asked and was not every pleasant or welcoming. Around 3:40, after waiting almost 2 hours, we were given our room. The room was small but it was okay cause we would not be in there for that long. The next problem came the next morning when I went into take a shower in their bathroom. As I turned the handle, it fully came off and started spewing water. The staff took care of it and gave us another room but it would make you think they would have checked considering they were cleaning the room for over an hour. Further more, the staff was not efficient usually and not very friendly. If I asked for something as simple as paper cups, it would usually either take a while to come or the item not come at all. It made one feel bad for even asking. They also felt annoyed when I had asked them for extra blankets in person. The hotel is very nice and it has a good ambiance but it definately needs better staff and a new supervisor.

Location is very prime, property is overall well maintained but is rather small...similar though to other hotels in this area and category. Recommend for business stay, not probably for a vacation stay unless you will basically be out and about most of the time.

I stayed here end of August 2022. First the positive: the staff were very friendly, the room was clean, great location as you could walk most places. The not so good: room was very small, windows were filthy, it was a bit noisey as the windows were thin and if you are a light sleeper you will be woken up at night from what is going on outside, the bathroom was one of the smallest I have ever seen - no room around sink for toiletries. We literally had to have our toothbrushes in the bedroom since there was no room in the bathroom. The fridge was not working. We even had staff come to look at it. They assured as it was fine after fiddling around with it. We put some food in it over night and when we woke up the fridge was off again and our food had to be thrown out. We always stay at Marriotts but I have to say for what we paid and what we got we would not stay here again.

We arrived early but were still able to check in, which is great after a long day of air travel! We were on the first floor, so the view is nonexistent but the larger room more than made up for it! The restaurant is great for coffee and breakfast & the location is great and within walking distance of union square and lots of shopping/dining.

A good option in the Union Square area, but definitely be prepared for a "city" sized hotel. The rooms are small but plenty of space for 1 person. I spent a week here while working from the hotel during the day. However, the smallest issue is the bathroom. This was as one of the smallest bathrooms I've ever had and I wouldn't have wanted to share it with another person. The hotel is 17 floors with only two elevators, so you it can definitely be a wait at times to get to and from your room. The common areas are small and you likely will not be able to work from them. They're really only for waiting for an Uber. The staff is nice here and helpful, but there still isn't regular housekeeping (a common practice these days). If you're ok stay a few blocks up, I'd recommend staying at the Courtyard on Van Ness. It has larger rooms and better fixtures, nicer common areas, and a little further from the Tenderloin.

Stayed here for two weeks for work. Overall great experience. Front desk/service very responsive and professional, rooms simple but clean. Walking distance to a bunch of restaurants/close to Union Square and transportation. Instant Bonvoy elite status recognition.

Everything seems very old. Our room was right across the elevator with a super narrow hallway. Looks like they messed up where to install the light switch in the bathroom, it was in a corner against the wall and the frame obviously didn't fit so they had to cut it.. Looked so dumb. lol Bathroom was tiny and the floor had lots of dirt marks.. Beds were small - maybe double or Full size, not even Queen.. Windows were also very dirty from the outside. Probably the worst Courtyard I've stayed at.

Staff were friendly from the moment we entered. When parking the car, if loading area is full double park, "take everything out of th car" and lock your vehicle! They have bar that doubles as the breakfast, Starbucks coffee, and bar. They have small snack shop (1st floor) Basement floor, Included is the gym with dumbbells, treadmill, and weigh scale. Free Water dispenser in the gym. Rooms Missing soap for body wash but the one changing all the soap dispensers gave us many sample bottles instead.

This is not my first choice for hotels in the city, but rates in SF are crazy and this was the best I could get for my days. Good: The lobby is pleasant and the staff seem nice. The location is pretty convenient for touristy things. The rooms are very small, I would not try cramming a small family in here. Of note very little space in the bathroom. The building is old, so it seems you can hear the plumbing from all over.
