How we came to know of this hotel is an interesting one. As an amateur treasure hunter I often use a metal detector to search for old coins and relics. While searching a Victorian style home dating to 1914 in nearby Martinez, Ca I discovered a .25 cent trade token dating to the early 1900's. This token was unique as it had the name "Hotel Majestic S.F." I set out to research the hotel which had a very limited but interesting history about it. When finally my wife and I had an opportunity to stay we made the trip out to stay in the famed room 407. Unfortunately, upon arrival our assigned room was not the 407 room confirmed on our reservation. When mentioned they made an attempt to change to the desired 407 but it was unavailable. We settled on the adjacent room 408.This was the Ballet Suite and the room was charming and everything we wanted it to be. After dinner in nearby Japan town, we spent time talking with the kind staff and learning more about the hotel and surrounding area. We had drinks at the Butterfly Lounge and our bartender was amazing, serving up quality beverages and good conversations. Our suite was clean and comfortable and we were allowed a late checkout. Coffee and Tea with assorted fruit and pastries were available in the morning. We had a very memorable experience.

Bathroom was clean, spacious and perfect. Location is perfect. Walking distance to great restaurants and happening areas. Clean safe and accessible. Breakfast - easy continental breakfast to fill your tummy before a days walking. Area for improvement - constructive criticism - The beds - so uncomfortable :( the pillows are very clumpy and I get the sense they are old. The mattress is covered only by a plastic (non breathable) mattress topper and a single sheet - this results in a very sweaty nights sleep despite the room temperature being perfect. It makes you wonder how many other people have sweated through the single sheet onto the plasticy cover every night. We stay in hotels very frequently all around this price point and star rating so I know that a more breathable mattress topper is the norm. A simple pillow and topper upgrade would go a long way to really elevating this room!! Would I stay here again ? 100%. IF the pillows and topper were upgraded.

October 2023 3.5* Stayed at this place for 2 nights on my business trip. This hotel was originally constructed in 1850 and converted to hotel in 1902. So this is 121 years old property. If you are history lover, you may like this place. The place is very old so you will smell some odour from carpet. Don’t take room on 5th floor. I had room on 3rd floor. The room is nice and you will feel nostalgia. Bed is super high but there is small bench in the closet. Light is little low. It is not advisable for old people as all room has big bath tub and can be challenging to enter and exit. The best part is the staff as they are super friendly and helpful. One extra star for them. You can get free breakfast but it is basic. Location is not bad as you are walking distance from BRT line. It took me 25-30 mins from airport.

The hotel was really nice if you're into old timey settings. The staff was nice and were very helpful. Maria made sure I knew where everything was in the hotel it was great. Also Alisha helped me find some items I forgot in my room we went up together and she made sure I found everything. I will say I tried calling them multiple times while I was out and for some reason they never pick up. I really hope they get that fixed for when I want to book there again in the future.

I want to thank Alisha and Amid for their excellent customer service when i arrived there with my two girls. They served us beyond expectations and for that I'm grateful. You will definitely see us again in the near future!

Meh. For $136 a night it was average. Shower pressure terrible. Fridge was loud so we had to unplug it. Windows looked out to nothing. Bed a bit sunken with scratchy sheets. Included breakfast average with nothing hot or any proteins. Fresh fruit is good.

Gorgeous Hotel, Great service. I love everything about this hotel, size of the room and the cleanliness. Didn't like the fact; no parking.

This is a great place to stay, it has historic significance and is very unique amongst the other cookie cutter hotels. Alisha at the front desk was wonderful, she helped with walking directions and also advised on which areas are good to walk through and which aren’t. She’s a very knowledgeable and sweet young lady. Thank you Alisha!

I personally love this hotel. It's beautiful inside and out. Takes you back in time. Absolutely gorgeous venue. I tell my boyfriend all the time that we are going to get married here on day... A+ service too. Every time Ive stay at the Majestic not once have I had any problems. Highly recommend for couples.

This place is GREAT! A real treat. Classic San Francisco elegance--its like its the year 1902. A room with a Victorian circular pop out, fabulous canopy bed, and claw-foot bathtub. Most importantly, the staff was very very friendly and helpful. We had a blast. This is our new favorite hotel in SF.

The hotel is priced well for the area. The age of the building shows, but adds to the atmosphere. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly kind and accomodating. I would definitely stay here again.

The room we got was quite old, the bath was not super clean same as the floor at the bedroom. Somethings were quite dusty and the mattress definitely needs some refurbishment. The stuff was nice. It was quite cold still and when we mentioned that to the reception, it was just a night with a remark that it cannot be that the room is cold. We are glad we did not have to spend too long in the cold rooms. Breakfast was quiet American style with only boiled eggs, bagel and toast, some jam and peanut butter. There was some coffee from the machine and some watery juice.

We spent a week at the Hotel Majestic in one of their King Suites, Room 408. What a charming hotel and so perfect for our needs. The location is excellent! Only a five minute walk into the heart of Japantown and surrounded by plenty of shopping and dining. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the room clean and spacious. The suite has plenty of light and a separate living room and bedroom, which do show the age of the hotel, but the full bathroom has been updated. Water pressure was excellent and the hot water ample. You can hear other guests moving around and traffic, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper like me. The TV had plenty of channels from which to choose. The breakfast buffet included make-it-yourself waffles, eggs, sausage, breads, fruit, yogurt, cereals, coffee, tea, milk and juice. There's even a small gym in the basement. Our only complaint is about the computer and printer available in the lobby. The computer was working, but a bit slow, but the printer wasn't working and the keyboard and mouse needed to be switched out as they stopped working as well. Luckily the front desk staff were more than happy to print anything we needed. Would highly recommend!

Great place to stay when in San Francisco! This will be our go to hotel in the city. Clean, friendly and helpful staff. Old school charm and a lot of charisma, very cozy. The only downside is parking. We received a 90.00 ticket for being parked on the street in the morning.

A lovely neighborhood hotel. Staff is very attentive and anticipates your every need. Great bar and just the right light breakfast buffet. Love the ambiance and stay here as often as I can. Highly recommend Hotel Majestic!

The quality of the service personnel, front desk and most importantly hotel manager on duty during our visit was outstanding. They were all extremely accommodating and helpful while we were there and would recommend this location to our friends and family visiting San Francisco

Employees: Kind, friendly, professional, hardworking. They were all great. Hotel building: Old. I noticed the carpet in the main areas were dirty. I kept thinking it needed professional cleaning and it kind of smelled like old cigarette smoke despite being a non-smoking facility. It has a working elevator at least. It even talks when you get on and off. Also the dining area is well-kept and clean. Hotel room bathroom: Bathroom was clean. I was a big fan of the cleanliness. The toilet needed stronger water pressure though, had to flush a few times to flush toilet paper. Would've also loved a water hose at the shower. The sink faucets were also a little too close to the back of the sink bowls. Other than that the bathroom was well taken care of, there were no signs of rust or calcium build up from water. The floor and counters were nice and shiny and the large mirror was smudge-free. The window is also large and brightens up the bathroom a lot during the day. Hotel room: Clean pillows. I have a contact allergy to dust mites and did not get hives on my face at all. The pillows could be softer and fluffier though. I was not comfortable with the pillows. Besides that, the air conditioning is great because it can get hot in the room. The refrigerator was also convenient. Also the room smelled somewhat better than being out in the lobby. Noise: Quiet. Some occasional noises from other guests (doors slamming, loud footsteps) but very quiet otherwise. Good noise-proof rooms. You can only hear noise by the doors but I couldn't hear neighbors (they were talking which I couldn't hear until I passed their door outside to get to my room) when I was in my room which is great. I turned on my tv without fear of disturbing them. Unrelated but I was over at my friends' rooms at Hotel Kabuki to visit during the day and it was a lot more constantly noisy over there to the point where you hear traffic and outside conversations with the windows closed. Hotel Majestic didn't have this issue. Location: quiet neighborhood. Not a lot of cars compared to by Japantown. The walk from Hotel Majestic to Japantown is close and at a downhill walk. But if you walk from Japantown to Hotel Majestic, it is a steep uphill climb. I was pretty tired and stopped to take a breather once on the way there (I walked up 2 different times and took a break both times). It's a relatively safe neighborhood. Going towards Japantown it's safer but going the opposite way past the hotel is more sketchy even according to the receptionist I spoke to. Food options: Lots of food options during the day near Japantown and you can go to the supermarkets and buy bentos (or order at restaurants) to bring back to your hotel room. Not much during the night unless you order pizza delivery or outside food delivery service. Complimentary breakfast service: they offered it from 7-10am. At the time I saw coffee, decaf coffee, and orange juice. Also had bread options, scrambled eggs, jelly, watermelon, cereal/milk, hardboiled eggs, and sausages. They had some more simple options which I do not remember. It was enough for me to have some bread, scrambled eggs, and watermelon. I recall they also had coffee in the lobby outside of breakfast. Also different note, I was quite spooked about being in a potentially haunted hotel, but didn't have any weird experiences in the 2 nights I stayed. Didn't stop me from being paranoid though as a solo guest though lol.

Booked this hotel based on the images as it felt "different". Arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon and I was expected. Received a free upgrade for the bigger room for free on arrival! Hotel is clean and offers free breakfast. Breakfast is pretty basic but does the job before heading off to city for site seeing. Staff is really friendly and want to accommodate any of your request. I am really impressed with that. Beds are comfortable and clean. There is some noise if you have a room next to the main street but that is nothing related to hotel itself. I would come back to this hotel in the future.

Great little hotel. It's older and has character with small rooms which is great for solo or couples. The safe was very friendly, they had complementary breakfast and a cute bar. Amazing price for what you get.

We flew in and we're warmly greeted. Our room was classic and cozy. It was a great room for the price and the view was nice. The only downside was it was very cold in the room and there is no heater in the room. The gentleman at the front desk was nice enough to lend us a portable heater. The breakfast was an assortment of bagels, toast, waffles, muffins, cereal, boiled eggs, and coffee or orange juice. It was better than most places that offer free Breakfast and the dinning room was lovey. Our location was very convenient and we easily got around town to the main sights. We would definitely stay here again and we are thankful for the wonderful stay.

Majestic? YES! I was welcomed like a queen! A BIG THANK YOU TO MANOJ who helped me so much, he was PERFECT and so smiling. Alisha made sure all clients were comfortable at same level of service and kindness (couple, single, family, group). Amit was very kind and helpful, just seeing his very calm attitude, he soothes the world around him xD Maria is very nice, when she sees you seem disturbed by a little personal worries she wants you to be fine. Edwin who brings up the luggage always seems very happy, it's very pleasant to meet his smile in the corridors. Thank you all, a great team making this beautiful hotel more extraordinary.

Costed the hotel where family was staying. It’s a nice boutique hotel with a lot of charm. Lots of hai Ted stories add to the charm as well. The rooms are large the furniture is kind of period (last century) - and the service is decent. The dining room is currently closed owing to renovation. It is located in a nice quiet part of the city.

Great hotel with very friendly staff with great service. The rooms are quite interesting, which are Victorian style. When we stayed the elevator was out of service. The breakfast is not bad here too.

Staying in this hotel was really fantastic. All the staff is nice, available, and efficient. The location is also very convenient, quiet (which I really appreciated for work) but still central and close to many tourist places. The decoration is very original and this is very pleasant. A hotel which I definitely recommend !

If you're into living and experiencing the 1920s, this hotel is for you. My fiancée and I are lovers of the 1920s, and the architecture, antique ornaments, and vibe all just make you feel like you went into a time machine. Another great thing, and cherry on the top, was the music they play! They played artists from the 1900s. It was beautiful, unlike other places that have the style but do not put the right music. The Hotel Majestic also has a rich history being one of the buildings to stand tall during the 1906 earthquake and still be in business. It was founded by the Schmitt family in 1902. More information is on their website. I believe this place is wonderful and gives an antique experience. Staff were amazing, friendly, and informative. The downside, but did not hinder the experience, is the parking. Much expected from San Francisco but the staff are helpful in directing you to it.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a throwback to the early 1900’s when crystal chandeliers, hand turned bannisters and claw foot bathtubs we’re valued. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful and the hotel is spotless. You’ll enjoy a very competitive rate, continental breakfast and a great location. The biggest drawback is that there is no onsite parking and so it takes some planning to find nearby garages, but the concierge is helpful. I would definitely stay again.

The Hotel Majestic brought character, uniqueness, and charm to our recent stay in San Francisco! The staff was incredibly accommodating, they had breakfast available each morning, and was right in the center of the city giving us great access to all San Fran has to offer. We will be recommending this hotel for years to come. Thank you Hotel Majestic for making our first time in San Fran one to remember!

This hotel is a gem. It is truly a hidden gem in a great area near Union Square. The service is top notch 5+++. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Manaj who works at the front desk is a true gentleman. During our three day stay, he always went out of his way to tell us where to go and how to get there. He is so friendly and helpful and the best part of this hotel is its people and the service. It is an old hotel, and Manaj told is about the history of the hotel and how it was converted to a hotel over a hundred years ago. Speaking of which, there is an antique feel to the hotel and the rooms. That being said, everything is remarkably clean and cozy and well decorated. Shower water pressure is kind of low. at the time we were there, there was a problem with the shower but they were fixing it. I loved the breakfast. The location is perfect. I am going to give this hotel a 4.5 (not 5) because this is not a perfect hotel. In other words, if you want a flawless place to stay, this is not it. You will probably have to spend 3 times as much to find such hotels in this area. However, this is a very very good hotel with a few minor shortcomings that makes it perfect for most people who don't want to spend $$$ for a 5 star hotel For the price, I give this hotel a 5+++. We paid $130 a night and I highly highly recommend it.

From start to finish this was an amazing stay! The hotel is unique and rich in history. It’s beautiful and quirky and fun. Even the elevator was fun because I discovered something new in the paintings each time we used it. The location was fantastic, so close to Japantown and a short walk to California and Van Ness to catch the historic street car. The best part was the staff. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and professional. I haven’t gotten that level of service at any other hotel anywhere. I would definitely stay there again.

Clean, gorgeous hotel and spacious rooms. Friendly and attentive staff. Has a few quirks as you’d expect from a 120 year old building. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the room service - the restaurant is closed on Mondays, and the free breakfast is pitiful and worse than you might expect from a Best Western in an attempt to get you to order their $12 eggs and bacon.
