Very good hotel for value. Close to Union Square. Avoid walking down to Tenderloin. The room we got was big and comfortable. It had a mini kitchen and a bidet in the bathroom (rare for the US). The cleaning staff are great. The receptionist is based on your luck. Some are very approachable and kind. Some are a bit cranky. But all were helpful. Overall, we had a great stay. Very nice experience.

We stayed here 3 days. This hotel is close to shopping and super convenient. Housekeeping was not very thorough. But the reason for 1 star is the front desk staff. They are weird and rude. They treated us poorly. They acted like us being here was very inconvenient to them and any interaction left us shaking our head. Outright constant rudeness. We took my mother in law here because she loves this place but we were astounded at the behavior of every person who worked the front desk. Andy however fixed a problem for us and was friendly and competent.

Great location, helpful staff and big clean room. Not too noisy and we were at the front of the hotel which is on quite a busy street. It is very dated and there is a bit of a musty smell but not too bad. Breakfast was in a box and contained quite a lot. Would have been nice if it had different things in it some days.

Nice and clean rooms for the low price. They let you check in until 11 PM and check out at 12 PM, which is helpful. You hear street noises at night so wouldn’t recommend staying on the lower floors. Parking is a big hassle so I recommend parking at Mason O Farell garage as all the others nearby ask you to leave your keys. The hotel has valet but I couldn’t use it as they not did pick up my call.

If you're wanting to sit in your hotel room and watch television while looking out over the large parking lot in which you parked for free, then you'd be better off going to Dubuque or maybe Dallas. Yes, parking is expensive and there are channels on the TV that are fuzzy. But, if you're interested in a real San Francisco experience, this 1910 gem is a remarkable bargain. A handsome lobby, warm and affable front desk staffing, a tiny elevator (or up an impressive stairway) to a clean and comfortable room with large bath--there's everything to like about this experience. Some street noise throughout the night reminds you that you're in the heart of the city, a location that makes for easy walking and access to public transportation. An adequate breakfast box with coffee gets you going while a wine and cheese reception starts the evening off comfortably. I walked throughout the area during the day and at night and felt quite comfortable (use appropriate caution, you are in a city after all.) After years of visiting in and then living in the Bay Area, I have found the place where I will always stay from now on.

Wow. Where to start… Got into our suite and it was so disgusting. 1. faucet in the kitchenette would not turn off so it was constantly dripping. 2. The kitchen sink would not drain 3. They obviously did not clean in what looked like a year or more… 4. Urine stains in the bathroom before we ever used it 5. Chips and all kinds of grossness on the floor 6. The TVs are from 1990 and fuzzy/bad signal. 7. The duvet on the bed had this big dark stripe - wiped it it to see what it was, and yep it was just dirty/dust. 8. Took the cover off and the sheets were shredded down by the foot of the bed. 9. The phone in the room (yes, plugged in correctly) did not work. Seriously, the most basic things of cleanliness and maintenance here are horrendous There’s more, but you get the idea. If you’re reading this and wondering about all these other reviews - they must’ve been paid for.

Great location. Pizza down street, 2 liquor stores. Room is a junior but has 2 king beds and a kitchen wow on 6th Floor. I would've brought pots. Toilet has Bidet. The windows are able to open. Great stay. Definitely want to see the higher up rooms. I believe 2 more floors.

Cute hotel with all the feels of San Francisco. Check in was easy, friendly woman at desk. Hotel room was appropriate size, clean. View of the residents next door though. Room had an old school heater, but it didn't work, so it was kinda cold in the room. TV cable was terrible, all the channels were fuzzy. Wine and cheese, and breakfast were offered but we didn't get any. Walking distance to Union Square, and lots of places to eat. Didn't care for the valet only $45 parking, but didn't have a choice. My main complaint, is this other woman at the desk who was RUDE. We came downstairs after checking in, and it was a different lady at the desk who checked us in. She was helping someone, so I waited for a minute. Just wanted to ask her real quick to point us in the direction of going to Union Square. So I was like, "Excuse me...", She didn't respond (totally fine), then said it again, "Excuse me.." The front desk lady says the the other customer whom she was helping, "Excuse me ma'am, let me deal with this 'emergency' first (pointing at me)..." Literally in THE most sarcastic and rude manner. I laughed like, is she serious? I was like, I just wanted to know real quick which direction it was for Union Square, sorry to bother you..." What the hell?! Guess all the reviews on here about RUDE customer service were on point. The number of stars is mostly due to this front desk lady. Obviously if there are a LOT of reviews stating this, you'd think the hotel management would do something about it.

Love this Hotel! We were welcomed right away. Got here in time for social hour! She thoroughly explained our reciept and got us on our way! She also invited us to Free breakfast in the morning, gave us a walking map of the city to get us started, and even comped us a better room since a refrigerator would be very handy during our longer stay. Everyone is cleaned and helpful. Full service cleaning staff didnt miss our room for fresh towels and supplies. Beds and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again! Thank you!

Amazing, amazing hotel. Competitively priced, close to main transfer lines, very clean and comfortable rooms. It tends to be right across an excellent burger place and taco joint. The best ramen in the whole city is just a street below. The room gets very chilly during the night and I could not find a way to heat the room also the neighborhood gets a bit dodgy as you walk west. All in all, highly recommended.

What I liked about the hotel: 1) Close to Japantown (About 20 min walk) and Chinatown 2) Clean Rooms 3) Very nice staff, particularly a lady named "P." Mixed Feelings: 1) Have their own parking but need to pay $45 for Valet. What I didn't like about the hotel: 1) No Ac 2) Breakfast not as enticing as it looked from previous photos. Just a box with oatmeal, apple, apple juice, Madeline cookie, and a snack bar. Coffee is provided but tastes sour.

Beautiful old world look. Nice room for the price. Lacking basic amenities that in my opinion a room should have like a coffee pot and plastic cups. Also, not sure about other rooms but ours had a heater that made lots of noise throughout the night even when shut off. Kinda weird.

Very nice old hotel. Rooms were very clean and spacious. Very nice surprise. Full kitchen with fridge. Beds very comfortable and great pillows! Close to Masonic for a show. Close to food, walking distance. Took a while for heat to warm us up. Old building, They push a button in office to turn on propane. Will book again. Staff was friendly.

Will not book again. Rooms are extremely outdated, probably has not been renovated since its original build?! Heater in room is super old and noisy. Windows have zero insulation so you can literally hear everything on the street in the evening - lots of cars, sirens, crazy people yelling, dog barking. First night was so bad we asked to change rooms. Second room was definitely better, but overall the place is not very clean. There were walls peeling off in places, stains on sheets, and for breakfast they came in a box with oatmeal package. How do you even eat that if you have no microwave??? The wine and cheese is just some grocery cheese and crackers. Would rather that they clean properly and get new sheets vs them offering a sad “breakfast and wine and cheese”. Location is ok - it’s close to union which is the nicer place but it’s also right at the edge where it gets super sketchy if you walk a little more down. Would not recommend this place for families.

Rooms are quite large with full galley-style kitchenette area and bay window with small table area. Free breakfast does given every morning with instant oatmeal, fruit and yogurt. It's located close to two Trader Joe's (which sells wine). By far the most bang for your buck. Staff was extremely accommodating and courteous. However, if you exit and make a right from the hotel you can witness the sad reality of San Francisco. Homelessness and drugs. For the most part they are kind people, just hurting. The hotel amenities and location gave me a great opportunity to make small meals to hand out. It was a perfect stay for me.

The price was good for a 1 day stay. Room was comfortable although no AC or fans. We stayed here while my daughter had surgery so my 2 year old son and I booked a one bed room for us. At the moment of my stay I was 31 weeks pregnant so it was nice having access to an elevator but the valet parking was a terrible experience though. It’s $45 for the night, I was asked to move my car multiple times so it could get picked up, and we had to wait 30min for our car to be brought back when we checked out. The staff was not very friendly and didn’t seem to want to go out of their way to offer a very pregnant mama alone with a kid, some assistance.

The hotel’s location is good since it is located at downtown.. but the evening female front office clerk was so rude and was acting like she does not want to be there and just waiting for her shift to end, I asked her if there is AC in the room and she was rude on the phone, scoffing and not welcoming, I would not want to return in this hotel anymore. Please train your staff! the room was spacious but it has no AC and the facilities are old, you’re really just paying for the hotel’s location.

Beautiful hotel, and spacious rooms. It was warm in the room and the only way to cool it down was a box fan. Breakfast was nice, but very high in carbs/gluten. Overall very nice place to stay.

I am staying at this hotel while I visit San Francisco, and I can not rave enough about the service. I always bring a uv black light to hotels and I couldn’t find a spot anywhere! This place is spotless. The beds are comfortable, the service from the staff has been so inviting and enjoyable. The breakfast is a great addition and wine and cheese in the afternoon, yum! I will only stay at this hotel when I visit again in the future.

Our experience was a bit rocky from the start. We arrived around 2:20 to try and check in because we came into town a little earlier than expected. I walked in and wasn’t even greeted by the guy, he had his back to me and didn’t even say hello. I asked him if we could possibly check in early and he said no and that no rooms were ready and check in was at 3. Okay so we come back and I walk in at 2:55, again no greeting and then two minutes later he said it’ll be another 5 minutes ma’am like okay. 3:11 hits and I’m like are y’all checking people in now and they said yes and I finally got checked in. We finally are able to check Room was clean but outdated, they could some minor improvements to make it better. The only person that was actually nice was this Asian guy and I wish I caught his name. Valet is $45 and it will take forever to get your car no matter what time. Also it can be very mosey with all of the SF traffic. We had to wait 30 minutes in the morning to get our car. Honestly book ahead of you can and pay a little extra for better service.

Good price/quality ratio. Rooms are spacious and decently equipped. Area is medium. Very noisy at night. Breakfast is really light. Very nice, classic atmosphere.
