The Tavern looks great, stylish furnished and looks but that’s about it! Our server lady was so rude and had a temper - wondering what she is doing there! Wanting to pull the full bottle wine card from us and I did ask to look at it .. she said “can I have the full bottle wine card”. Asking her if we would look like we could not afford it because she gave us that exact feeling. She replied with “are you kidding me” so loud and aggressive the whole restaurant could hear that. Food was not good either. Broccoli 🥦 was butter and I guess had vinegar or something to it. Chicken was ok. Mac and cheese was way to runny like pasta with sauce. The vanilla ice cream was good though. Seems to be a fancy young professional show off location. Based on the price you can get better service and food cheaper somewhere else. Couple blocks away actually. Just check my other listings on reviews.

My group of 7 had an awesome time at Wayfare. The food was delicious, the oysters were fresh and wholesome, and their burger was awesome. No complaints for the food whatsoever. For some reason, we did get the reservation wrong with fewer seats so we were a bit crammed but even so, we had a fun time. The interior indeed comes across like a tavern, not medieval but somewhat like an English countryside pub. Regardless, they had a great selection of beer and fantastic food. Not sure what was going on though but our server was a bit weird. Perhaps she was having a bad day but on multiple occasions her voice / tone was borderline rude or even derogatory. I tried to give her the benefit of doubt the first couple times but towards the end of the night, we were a bit put off. We'll absolutely return to Wayfare. Hope I just don't run into that server again.

It was the first restaurant we tried on my first time to San Fran. It really set the standard for what good food should be. The food portions could have been bigger and oysters to scale (small for what you pay for). Server was really nice. Definitely a must try but prepare to $pend. Cavatelli pasta was too sauced and could have used more pasta. Deviled eggs weren’t that great, so skip those.

We sat at the kitchen bar. Ginger was our server. We ordered a half dozen oysters, the NY Strip special, and the beef short rib. The service was well-timed, friendly and fun. The food was superb. Our cocktails and wine were on point. Next time we are getting the Tavern Burger and Donuts for dessert!! It was really nice being able to watch the kitchen prepare our food. Very clean and very professional. Highly recommend!!!

First time here. This restaurant was wonderful! Our server was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful particularly with the wine selection. The food was outstanding! I was looking forward to the popovers, and they did not disappoint. They were absolutely delicious. We started with the prime beef tartar and the butter lettuce salad. Both appetizers were huge and could easily be shared by 2. The beef was divine and was my favorite bite of the meal. For our entrees, my husband had the Skuna salmon while I had to try the signature dish, fried chicken. The salmon was prepared to perfection at medium rare, and was served with farro and kale. The chicken was crunchy, juicy, and light; not heavy and greasy like other places. There were 5 pieces on the plate, so again, great generosity with the portions. We also had the burrata whipped potatoes, so airy yet rich and creamy, and the broccolini which had a delightful flavor from the red chili flake and crushed ginger. For dessert, our server recommended the doughnuts, which were served with a berry coulis and vanilla creme fraiche. Paired with a glass of Tokaj (him) and a cup of coffee for me, they were the perfect ending to an outstanding meal. Thank you, Wayfare Tavern, for a phenomenal dinner experience!

Came to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The space is nice and the booths are very comfortable. I love the deviled eggs. The chicken was delicious but honestly I think a lot of it was because of the hype. The hamburger was humongous, very messy but worth it. The donuts impressed me. I would give if five stars if it weren’t that expensive.

Delicious! From the salad to the dessert everything was delectable. We ordered potato leek soup and a Caesar salad to start. The soup was rich and creamy. We ordered the NY strip and the pork chop for the entrée. They were cooked beautifully and had great flavor. The sauce accompanying the steak was fantastic. Very fun flavors. Lastly we had the banana trifle for dessert. Yum! Service was great and attentive. Atmosphere was very enjoyable. Make reservations for sure.

Really intimate atmosphere with options for outdoor and indoor seating. Both are good. There's limited seating indoors but options at a chefs bar or a traditional bar. I had a burger, fries and Mac n cheese. The prices were very San Francisco. The service was friendly and attentive. The Mac and cheese left a little to be desired. I returned and had chicken that was also pretty good. I'd definitely return

Great tavern atmosphere, inviting and cozy but upscale enough so that it feels special. We had lunch for 4 and had made reservations a few days ahead. The purple rain gin cocktail was one of the better cocktails I've had in awhile. The popovers were fresh, flaky, and light. We shared deviled eggs and crab. Again, the deviled eggs were some of the best I've had in a long time. Mains were the mussels, chicken sandwich, and salmon. All were very good, especially the broth that the mussles were served in, and the crispy skin on the salmon and the eggplant puree it came with. Will definitely head back for the food and great service.

Service was impeccable here, very attentive and professional. Cute cozy set up. The food is of high quality and their expresso martini was so yum! We ordered a good amount of food and truly enjoy their devil eggs (must try)!!!

It was my understanding that Wayfare Tavern was a unique and tasty experience in the past. My experience yesterday was not that. The place was packed. The reception staff was pleasant, the waitperson was okay. The food was very disappointingly average at best and not really worth the wait for the table and the very loud crowded atmosphere.

Great atmosphere and lovely good offered. Definitely recommend their bone marrow as a starter Even though I tried the steak, which was delicious, the fried chicken is also amazing and easily their best special Their desserts, especially the donuts are to doe for. Also, the popovers served before starters are one of the best I had across the country.

Unfortunately this is no longer Americas best fried chicken. I’ve been hearing about this place (and the chicken) for years. Sadly the huge serving of chicken was flavorless and dry. I don’t mind putting my own salt pepper and herbs on it, but the batter really has nothing with nothing. The mac n cheese was bland as well. The Brie was great and my husband loved the bone marrow. They also have an expansive wine list and found a lovely Spanish red that we enjoyed. The building and atmosphere are great. I won’t knock of stars for service, because it’s a hard business for everyone right now.

Great during the week spot with coworkers. Had an eclectic vibe. Did the dry aged tomahawk! Mac and cheese is lit! Bone marrow could’ve been better

We ordered the burger, mac and cheese, and the Pioneers Peat cocktail. The burger was delicious but the mac and cheese was almost inedible. It had a distinct taste to it, but was grossly under-seasoned and was very wet (not cheesy). The Pioneers Peat was overly sweet. The servers and wait staff made up for what the food was lacking, as well as the warm appeal of the dining room. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained.

Stopped in for dinner this evening and definitely happy with our decision. Despite the late being no available reservations online and the place being very busy the staff was able to accommodate us with two bar style seats which overlook the kitchen area. These seats turned out to be great because it was a lot of fun watching the staff prepare the orders as they came in. The food was delicious and the staff was great and very attentive.

12/21/23. Great restaurant in the Financial District. Food, wine and cocktails are top notch. The only minus for our party of 5 was that we had 6:30pm reservations and had to wait until almost 7pm to be seated. Good neighborhood too.

Came here for late lunch. Fried chicken was ok. Popover was dry. Appetizers were good. My favorites were the whipped potatoes and brie.

Whilst walking around in the city we decided to stop in for lunch. My salad was excellent. My hubby said his chicken sandwich was pretty good. The atmosphere was good. The service wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. When my hubby finished his beer the server came by to collect the empty glass as he walked by but didn't ask if he'd like another. Even though he may not have ordered another, I think it should be best practice to ask. I would eat here again though.

Homemade lemonade with mint. Gnocchi with a squash puree base. Plus they give you a fluffy roll with some yummy butter to start. The meal sounds simple. That's how they execute the meal and make it perfect. The lemonade was great. Not to much ice in the glass. The gnocchi was light and airy. I could have eaten more but was glad that it wasn't a heavy meal. I'd come back here for lunch.

Went with a friend for dinner as part of SF Restaurant Week. Loved the food, everything was great quality. The service was not great. We had to remind the waitstaff about the rolls (popovers), which arrived after our entrees. The initial interaction with our waitress was extremely off-putting, worst in recent memory. Good value food for the price (prix fixe) but knocking off a star for the service issues.

Beautiful outdoor area and classic cozy interior dining. The chicken was outstanding as were all the sides and appetizers. The deviled eggs were a hit with our table. Limited wines by the glass. Service was prompt and professional, no chit chat or recommendations other than popular favorites.

This place is quite the experience, the staff is considerably nicer than any other restaurant and it was even surprising when they ask about your day but actually follow up and continue the conversation! The atmosphere is wonderful, they were able to create a unique vibe that is both fun but classy. Definitely something unique and worth the try. Now comes food, I feel like my food choices were not the best and it ultimately impacted my score. The fried brussel sprouts were average at best, nothing unique, and it was a chore to finish the plate. The Braised Lamb Shank was actually nice, very tender with good flavor. But it wasn't great. I was expecting something more to be honest. I'd definitely try this place again because I feel like it has a lot more to offer wheb it comes to food

I had made a reservation for my husband’s birthday and they gave us a good table. We tried salad, organic fried chicken and donuts and all these dishes were delicious. Although every customer/table has their iconic bread, we didn’t have. They didn’t serve us their bread during our dinner, even though they offer the customers who came after us. When I asked our waitress why, she apologized and she said that it was the baker’s mistake.

I dream of this restaurant and eating literally the BEST fried chicken in the world!!!! The first time being here was a beautiful coincidence! We had time to kill while we waiting for family to pick us up from our hotel. We took a walk in the rain and it magically appeared. The ambiance is English pub. Vintage, dark comfortable and intimate. Service was top tier! Back to the chicken - It Is juicy and perfectly fried and has the best seasoning. The hype is well deserved Their mash potatoes are 100 and so are their drinks. Their bread are little warm clouds served with light whipped butter. Will never go to SF and not eat here <3

The Wayfare Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco. We ALWAYS get the fried chicken, potatoes, and deviled eggs, then try something new off the menu to go along with our "regular". We have never been disappointed, and we always return for more. We love the atmosphere, the service is exquisite, and the food is divine! Highly recommend!

*Open for indoor dining, outdoor dining, and takeout* Staff and service: - Was a bit confused at first because there were a few men dressed in suits standing around right next to our table, looking over each of the tables, and talking like they were figuring out seating / restaurant details. I am not sure if they were the owners or not - The staff seemed like they were trained to be very professional, so weren't as personable (except for the person who helped me get my takeout bag upon leaving - he was very friendly) Food: - Burrata whipped potatoes: this dish was good, but it does taste like regular mashed potatoes. I would say the main difference is the texture as this is lighter and fluffier (from being whipped) - Cavatelli: usually made with mushrooms, but was made with asparagus this time - Salmon: healthy, tasty, and fresh - Fried chicken: this dish comes with a nicely placed pile of fried chicken (no other sides come with it). There were two small mounds of seasoning on the side that added to the chicken - Tavern burger: added an egg to this dish and it was delicious! But of a messy burger with the sauce. The fries that came with the burger were seasoned so well also. - Southern deviled eggs: as a non-bacon eater, I was able to pick the bits of bacon off, and the rest of the egg was tasty. Miscellaneous: - There is outdoor seating with heat lamps - If you want to take your leftovers home, they'll package it up for you and give you a number to pick it up on your way out (sort of like a valet service - pretty cool!) - They can make cocktails not on the menu as well

Excellent meal, service, atmosphere. I've never been before but the staff was super friendly and accommodating... and with a smile. The food was excellently prepared and I would def ask for the Max and a cheese, bone marrow app and other apps. We had them all. Dinner was especially good and I had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection. I wasn't expecting much of this place, but their service and attention caught me off guard. I loved it. I almost forget... ver fair prices. Had two Bottles of wine and apps with emails for 6 for under $800 with tip.
