Spectacular food. The cebiche is, of course, wonderful, but the whole menu is a delight. It was our first time here, so we went with tasting menu. The first two courses give you seven dishes, and you get a real tour of what the restaurant is capable of. The main course of halibut on wild rice was delicious and the desert at the end was sublime. It is a huge dining room with at least 50 tables yet they produce consistently excellent food rapidly. It is loud in this former pier warehouse, but it doesn't matter. The food is just so good. Great service as well. Highly, highly recommended.

Fantastic. Some dishes were better than others. 1st course of tasting menu and ceviche sampler were our favorite. The tasting menu dessert was a delicate ensemble of flavors it encouragedus to order 1 more dessert. The chocolate passion fruit dessert was good but not as good as the previous. Service was good slow pace. After taxes and tip about $100 per person and we didn't order drinks.

I was expecting the food to be good because such a high end place wouldn’t disappoint when it comes to food but it was the service of the waiter that set this place apart for me. The waiter and the table busses were very attentive and quick with clean up. The waiter explained in detail the entire menu and made a concentrated effort to check in and ensure everything was going well in a caring but not an over bearing way. Everything we ate was out of this world and we ended up doing a lot of tastings of the items instead of sticking to just one big dish.

I go to this restaurant about twice a year. The service is impeccable, food extraordinary and consistent. The view on the patio is great. Big fan of the grilled salmon: cooked to perfection with a perfectly crusty top. Their ceviche is amongst the best in town and all their fish and seafood is the freshest! Highly recommend!

Oh my god. This place. If you haven’t been here, I suggest you go here NOW. if you are visiting…well, you know what I’ll say :p this place was unbelievable. For my moms birthday we decided to come here. She loves Peruvian food, trying new dishes and LOVES fish. Peruvian food has a lot of similarity with Indian dishes and I think it gave our family some nostalgia. It was super pet friendly, which if you have seen my reviews I love and we got to sit outside with the beautiful view of the bay and the bridge. The food was spectacular and the best part was the tres leches cake. The food was fresh, flavorful and perfect for us 4. Would 100% go again, and if I could every week!!

Food was absolutely amazing, the nigiri was out of this world. Drinks were plenty strong, our entree was very flavorful and the ceviche appetizer also was great. Biggest negative was the service, we had a reservation for 8 and still had to wait 15 minutes for our table, never received water refills, we asked for a refill of chips and salsa never got it, server was rarely around. The food is carrying most of the 4 stars but for the price the service could have been a bit better.

The best seafood I have had in a while. The halibut was well cooked and soft. The fried calamari dish was spot on, crispy and not too oily. The chips and yuka fries were served with one of the most delicious dipping sauces I have had. It was apparently black mint. The grilled octopus a huge reveal. I usually don’t like octopus but I ate it with joy.

High end, expensive restaurant with a variety of Peruvian dishes, all with delicious unique ingredients and flavors. Service was slow initially as it looked like our waiter had all of the tables in our section. However once we ordered the food was brought out quite quickly. We ordered the small plates. The portions were good size with fresh ingredients. The raw tuna was the best I’ve ever had. We also had dessert which was quite smaller than we expected for the $13 price. Parking is across the street. They also have nightly specials and a long list of alcoholic beverages. Masks need to be worn when entering and they do check for proof of vaccination. Over all the experience and ambience were good. I would definitely recommend. Especially if you are looking for unique food. We probably spent well over $200 for three people. Not sure on the exact amount as my son treated.

I was thinking of giving 4stars for the lack of view when seated inside and nothing really spectacular considering how pricey the menu but when our food were served, you could easily argue that they deserve 5 stars. Our waitress patiently explained the menu and I thought the service was good. This is definitely a quality Peruvian food.

One of my favorite places to eat at! I have been here a few times with different sets of friends because I always love an excuse to eat here! I have tried a bunch of their menu items and I have never been disappointed in anything! Added bonus is the green sauce that comes with the complimentary chips. We are also huge fans of the eggplant dish and never forget to order it. I am not a fan of eggplants but this dish is delicious! The servers are very attentive and nice! and the views are unbeatable.! There is nothing to complain about this restaurant!

One of the best Peruvian food I ever had. The ceviche seasoning was on-point. Taro chips (complimentary) and the dip sauce were great too.

Such a fun atmosphere, delectable drinks, and scrumptious food. Came here for the first time for a bridal party celebration and they exceeded our expectations. Everything we had was so delicious and I was blown away by their cocktails. We were also dining with a sommelier who complimented the wine selection. I have been meaning to return, I highly recommend checking it out if you can snag a reservation! Their bar area is super cute and can likely accept small parties around happy hour. Quick note, not a lot of bathrooms-expect a wait when it’s busy. (But very clean!)

Wow, perfect food and service during a Fleet Week Friday lunchtime, which of course was extremely busy and it looked as though they had a private party going on the terrace too. As expected the cebiche was outstanding, and the dungeness crab with pasta in a light tumeric cream sauce was delicious. My only criticism is that the portions are all large, and meant to be shared, but that doesn't work when one half of the party of two is a carnivore. I tried fewer dishes than I would have liked, and we ended up taking leftover pasta, and grilled chicken chaufa. There's a nice selection of wine by the glass, and good cocktails as well.

Have been to La Mar several times now, with small and large parties up to 18. The food is always deliciously consistent, and the staff delivers impeccable service with attention to detail. Grilled octopus and all the ceviche are a must. We loved every moment here!! They also have a lovely outdoor setting overlooking the Bay.

We had the scallops and octopus in a delicious sauce. Ceviche tasting witch was amazing! It all tasted very fresh. Dessert we had the chocolate cake, tres leches, and their passion fruit dessert. All amazing and sweet! We were able to get seating outside with a great view of the water. The service was great, they were very attentive. We were also able to order lattes and cappuccinos. They only have cow milk. No alternative milk options are available.

Excellent service, amazing flavors and reasonably priced. The "chips" can be used for every dish! We waited only 15 minutes at the bar before we sat down. Better to have a reservation for busy days/times.

We found this spot when looking at a list of restaurants that were participating in Restaurant Week and we loved it! The interior design has an elegant and peaceful ambiance. The service here was 10/10. Our server was very attentive and when my friend left to go to the restroom really quick, she folded his cloth table linen right away and left it on the table. Staff was super friendly and food was brought o it in a very organized and professional manner. Food here is also a 10/10! For the starters I would recommend the Roquitas. It’s nice and crunchy on the outside and soft/chewy in the inside. For the entree, I got the Pulpo and that one was super good! I love the texture of the octopus since it was soft and it paired really well with the squash puree. Tres Leches cake was perfect for my tastebuds since it was not too sweet.

La Mar has to be the best place to savor authentic Peruvian seafood. The servers were super helpful and checked on us pretty frequently. The kitchen service is pretty fast so expect a very quick turnaround for the appetizers once you place your order. Mains that incorporate the catch of the day take quite a while, and are a huge portion, so a recommendation would be to order this ahead of time to give the kitchen a head start while your party indulges in the appetizers. This is also a great spot for co-worker dinners, and large groups. I’ll be back again!

This place has been on my list for a long time. Came here with my coworkers on the weekend. It's a bit hard to find parking since it's by the ferry building; thus, it's best to take public transit. This place is a bit fancy but I see some people dressed casually. 1st glance: everything on the menu looks good. 1st taste: everything that we ordered tasted delicious.

Food? To be honest, a little too much sugar or sweetener. Sugar may make a lot of food taste great, but not for me. Especially for seafood, I prefer raw and original great taste of food itself, not the sugar. For Sushi I would probably prefer other Sushi restaurants. Great atmosphere and great service. Good plan to hang out with friends.

Absolutely love this Peruvian restaurant in San Francisco! The food is incredibly fresh, bursting with authentic Peruvian flavors that transport me back to Peru with every bite. The dining experience is top-notch, with a cozy ambiance that complements the delicious dishes perfectly. What truly sets this place apart is the outstanding service provided by Poncho. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor made our dining experience truly memorable. Highly recommend this gem for anyone craving a taste of Peru in the heart of San Francisco!

We found the food rather good (from okay to very good, fish/seafood tasted very fresh), the place quite nice, but the highlight was the service, very efficient, friendly and attentive. You definitely pay the location, though.

It is a popular spot, the place is pretty pack. Please do make reservations, otherwise, you might just be able to sit indoor. I will say the outdoor patio might be a better place to be. It is a Peru restaurant, and I am surprised that Peru cuisine is heavily influenced by Chinese and Japanese with different kinds of yam and corn. Overall, the portion is a bit on the small side, I will say you might need 1.5 portion per person to make sure you are full. O well, I guess you that gives you more opportunities to try out different things if you are doing family style. The 4 of us had 5 plates and a bottle of white wine, with tips, the total is about 300.

Recommendable Peruvian food on the pier. The classic cebiche marinade was intensely sour from lime, yet still very enjoyable. The plantain chips were fresh with a good crisp. It was delicious with a sauce that was made from jalapeno and bell pepper, packing a punch of spice. The empanadas were the highlights of the meal. The corn one was lightly creamy with the sweet essence of corn; the mushroom was filled with cheese too; the chicken was creamy with varied bits of corn; the beef was juicy and also a little fruity with raisins. Each had a perfectly crispy fried outer shell that complements the filling. The Lomo Saltado was solid, stir fried with soy sauce. The beef was tender and ingredients well chosen. The tres leches cake is a good choice for dessert.

I loved it here! We had the Chef’s tasting menu which allowed us to try 80% of the menu by having a little bit of (almost) everything. The food, service and ambience were all great, especially with Preetha as our server! My favorites were the empanadas and prickly pear margarita.

  • 5/5 Anna A. 2 years ago on Google
Best Peruvian food we’ve ever had, especially the lomo saltado. The empanadas & ceviche were excellent & we really appreciated the creative dessert.

My first experience with Peruvian food surpassed all expectations. Our group of four ordered a variety of dishes: two hot appetizers, one cold appetizer, two main courses, and a delightful cake for dessert. The portion sizes were just right, and I particularly enjoyed the unique touch of taro chips instead of bread at the start of the meal. Despite the restaurant being fully booked, we were fortunate to secure a table in a quiet corner of the patio. This allowed us to enjoy each other's company while taking in the serene sea view and breathing in the refreshing seaside air. The lively atmosphere inside and on the patio added to the overall enjoyment. While the restaurant was on the pricier side, the quality of the food and the overall experience made it worthwhile. The staff members were exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially since we were unfamiliar with Peruvian cuisine. They took the time to explain the menu in detail and recommended their best dishes, ensuring we made informed choices. Whether you're seeking an introduction to Peruvian food or simply looking for a pleasant dining experience, this restaurant comes highly recommended.

Good restaurant, expensive :) (like everything in SF). Food is good, however, the same restaurants but overseas (yes, it’s a chain) were way better. Overall we had a good time, but is not worth 200+ per dinner (we had set menu dinner)

  • 2/5 Hans G. 1 year ago on Google
Aside from the ceviche (which is served as a small starter portion but at main dish prices) the other dishes we had were visually attractive but bland and unappetizing. The service by waiter was disdainful, perhaps since he knew the 20% gratuity was already guaranteed since we were a group. Aside from the nice-ish view, not a place I would ever return to nor recommend.

One of my favorite meals, easily in the top 10. Plus add the ambiance of being on the San Francisco Embarcadero. Even during COVID restrictions, we were able to get a table the day after Thanksgiving. We will return! The food is beyond remarkable; we had the Tiradito Nikkei (my favorite), Tiradito Verde (my girlfriend's favorite), the Nikkei Cebiche, Churrasco de pescado, topped off with a couple of Black Angel cocktails! What a wonderful evening. Then walk the city nights. Anyone who is looking for flavor needs to visit this restaurant.

First off... outrageously expensive. Everything is literally twice the price it should be. I ordered a pisco sour.. was not impressed. The empanadas were good. Unusually sweet, but good. The lomo saltado was extremely disappointing. $45 for 3 pieces of steak with potato fries, massive tomato slices, minimal onions, and rice. The steak was good quality, all three pieces of it. Would not recommend this place as a go to Peruvian restaurant. 3 stars is actually generous, but I did enjoy my 3 pieces of steak.

This place is absolutely delicious. It's not quite authentic Peruvian... But rather it's fusion, which imho makes it even better in this case. the outdoor terrace on the back offer a nice view of the bay as well. The service was also excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant anytime.

La Mar is the ideal place for seafood lovers and it served well as a location for lunch with our group of four. We called ahead to reserve a table and there was a one ready for us right away. There is plenty of metered parking and you can enjoy a walk along the Embarcadero. La Mar has an outdoor dining area with a nice view of the bay. You can see the ferry and other boats passing by while enjoying a cocktail made precisely to your liking. I ordered a mimosa to drink and had the Arroz con Mariscos for lunch. It was full of delicious flavor and a portion size big enough for leftovers. The server was attentive, friendly and fulfilled our requests accurately. La Mar is taking precautions for COVID-19 so there was sanitizer available and all staff were wearing masks. Tables were well spaced to allow for social distancing. The only thing that keeps me from putting five stars is the menu didn’t have any options for low salt or heart healthy diets. Asking for no salt to be added has little effect. I would love to have the same dish but with less salt and other low salt options. If you’re not concerned about eating too much salt and if you’re open to spending a little more then La Mar is a great choice for your dining experience.

  • 5/5 anna d. 3 years ago on Google
Really enjoyed our time at La Mar. The outdoor seating outside is done right; it’s warm enough, service is great, the view is beautiful and the food and drinks are just as great.

  • 5/5 Jeanette M. 3 years ago on Google
This is my favorite type of place. Great food, a beautiful experience, but down to earth, not stuffy at all. You feel comfortable to joke with the staff and relax. You can take time to indulge and don't feel rushed. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews about the food being okay, but our group thought it was stellar. We got a daily special halibut, empanada sampler, nigiri sampler, pulpo, and limena causas. The flavors of everything felt so bright, refreshing, rich, and balanced. Price is subjective but I enjoyed it for a special night out and felt like it was fair!

Some of the best Lomo Saltado I've had outside of Peru. The Chicha Morada was missing something, but it was still decent. It's a little pricey, but it's a nice spot and the service was top notch.

I absolutely loved this place for many reasons including location, the view, heated outside seating, air circulation ( so important during these covid times) and quality of food, drinks and service. 1. Reservation - required. Chances of walk-in success is very low. 2. Food/Drinks - amazing I love seafood and this place has a great selection. Everything here was great, I cannot possibly pick and choose. Food display - amazing, appetizing and beautiful Taste - very fresh, delicious Cocktails - beautiful in display and tastes good 3. Service - swift, knowledgeable and pleasant 4. Ambience - very romantic with the water view, heating lamps, lights and glass building set up they have. They can easily be a good place to have business dinner too. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Great seafood and pisco sours. I especially enjoyed their classic ceviche, as well as their crab causa. Very cool take on the causa, as its not in its usual cylinder form. I wasn't very impressed with the lomo saltado, though. It was too heavy on the sauce, and too light on the meat (though the lomo that was there was delicious). I think next time, I'll stick with sea foods here. Overall somewhere that I'd certainly return to for celebratory events.
