Just your average fair in a touristy place. It's in the middle of Pier 39, so the price is a little on the higher side. If you're looking for something simple like fish and chips, fish fillet sandwich, or a chowder, then this place has it. That being said, Boudin is right next to it, and the restaurant is at fisherman's wharf, and it might be a better choice. As a side note, the call-out for the food is extremely loud. Again, it's not the music; the guy calling out the order numbers could be heard in Oakland. Customer beware.

The food was so good. Worth the price. We were full and happy leaving. We got TWO orders of the crab cakes because they were so good we needed a second order, the fish and chips which were also delicious, and the white clam chowder in a bread bowl which was AMAZING. So much meat in the crab cakes and $8.99 for two?! Beats all the restaurants around! And the fish in the gosh and chips was no joke. Not too much breading. So worth the price. We sat at the tables outside which was fine. The employees were nice and efficient. We didn’t wait long and everything was fresh.

Good food at great prices with a really nice view of the Pier. Quick service with ample indoor and outdoor seating. We had the clam chowder (red, Manhattan style) in the sourdough bread bowl, fish and chips, fish salad bowl and crab meat sandwich and chicken sandwich. All of them were good with the fish salad being the best and red clam chowder being a close second. The red chowder seemed to taste like marinara with clam though with a great bread. The also have soda and hot beverages.

Feeling hungry and need a quick pick-me-upper? This chowder will do the trick. While walking around the pier and looking for something to eat but was very indecisive at the same time. We came to an agreement and decided to just pick the place we see next in our sight. We’ve never had a chowder with a sourdough bread bowl before and gave it a try. Our portion had generous amounts of clams, and other ingredients. For me, the only chowder I had in the past was from Chunky Soup so my palate for this was like either canned or homemade. So in that case it tasted way better than the canned stuff I had. But if you are a soup connoisseur then you might think differently. But this portion was really enough for the two of us at lunch. Great customer service we got and the staff was friendly and patient with us as we asked questions on which was better and their favourite. Thanks for reading if you got this far!

My son's friend told us the clam chowder is a must try so since we had time to spare before our ferry tour, we decided on a quick stop to have clam chowder and oh boy best decision ever. It was so good and the sour dough was also amazing. We tried the crab cakes, and that was amazing too.

Had a little over a half hour before leaving on a whale watching tour and stopped in to see if we could try the clam chowder. Served immediately, fresh and hot in a sourdough bun. Hit the spot before heading out. Filled with clams and other ingredients and in a fun lively spot on pier 39. Simple and convenient of you aren’t wanting to sit down for a longer meal!

Wanted to try the chowder but sadly it has bacon in it so not halal, muslim beware. But we had the seafood platter since they were not beer battered. The seafood were fresh, and tasty but the batter was bit plain and had no flavor. Luckily the tartar and red sauce rescued the batter. Fries were thick cut and had perfect crispy texture on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Servers were very welcoming and helpful. Had a nice view of the pier as well.

Food: Bread Bowl: the sour bread balances the salty chowder Fried Seafood: very nicely done; fish, shrimp, fries and calamari are all included. Their tartar sauce is not too sour or salty 👌 Shrimp Louie Louie: not very recommended if you’re not a salad person but the shrimps are fresh! Service: no tip needed, self service The speed to serve is pretty quick even during long weekend holidays. Ambience: the seats are pretty crowded, so if you’re here to grab a bite, there’s no issue, but if you’d like to have a nice place to chill, there are plenty of other choices around the area.

Our favourite place to have clam chowder while we are at around San Fransisco. Its located at Pier39. Served with sour dough makes the chowder taste more delicious. The seafood basket also good to taste.

Really good chowder !!! Would definitely recommend it. However the portion size of the fish and chips could be bigger for the price.

The place is greatly priced for families and their chowder is only 10.99. The food is delicious and I would definitely come here again. You also don’t have to ask for a cup of water/a cup because they have a small station where you can pour it from a tap yourself. Overall, very satiating and a great place to stop by for lunch.

Not a terrible place to get lunch. I got the white chowder. The price is about average ($12) and portion was excellent. The chowder itself had good flavor but was too salty. Went well with the bread bowl but hard to drink by itself. There were ample seating though which is why I ended up here as all other restaurants had a long wait for a seat

We ordered popcorn shrimp + chowder bowls and it was so filling and good. I especially love the popcorn shrimp with the sauce they gave. The chowders was a little bit underwhelming. For the red one, it was so dry and hard to eat with the bread. For the white one, it was bland. The appetizers are very good here though. THERE ARE NO RESTROOMS HERE but they are directly across the restaurant. Quick service and nice employees.

Ordering is quick. There are great amount of open spots when we came even though it was on weekends. Chowder is delicious!! Fish and chips, and chili cheese fires are alright. Tables are a little dirty.

Great food, I got the fried fish, it was good but nothing special, typical fried fish. Both my friends, however, got fish sandwitches and they claimed the food was absolutely amazing. So I would have to recommend the sandwitches. Considering the price though (especially for California), the food was very good. Big cities usually have inflated food prices for tourists, not the case at Chowders.

First time I had a clam chowder and it was spectacular! It was very tasteful and enough for me. The price was ok for the location and the views of the pier 39. The dish came fast and the service was good despite the place was full, the waiters were also fine.

Super good chowder in a sourdough bowl. The shrimp cocktail wasn't bad either. Atmosphere was busy and you can smell the sea on the air. Would reccomend eating here for sure.

Food was awesomse. Loved the sourdough bread bowl with a healthy helping of Chowder. So good. Also sampled the chicken sandwich as well as the shrimp and crab sandwich with the calamari fried rings. Really good. Enjoyed the atmosphere. And the location was right at the beginning pier. Love the sound and scenery. Staff was quick and efficient and did a really good job getting the food out quickly. The pricing is the pricing. It's Cali so prepare for a pricey selection.

Ordered a clam chowder and fish and chips. The fish and chips were good, hot and tasty with the tartar sauce. The clam chowder bowl was very creamy and good portion of clams. The bread part of the bowl is a lot but the portion is good and works out well when you can tear the bread apart to clean up the last of the chowder.

Love this place!! Amazing view of the ocean, love how fast the food is, and staff is very friendly! The food is amazing, super tasty and fresh! Our favorites are the clam chowder in the bread bowl and the sample baskets!

I ordered fried basket of catfish, shrimps and calamari with fries. It was just the regular fried stuff nothing unique in taste. I also ordered a tuna sandwich. The sandwich was also average. I would recommend to stop by at this restaurant to try their clam chowder with sourdough. It really looked good!
