Wow where to start! Arrived at 830pm after a long travel day, first 2 rooms roaches and alot of them!!! Went down and complained finally the last room was nice and clean. Didn't see anything. Also my remote didn't work for the TV, went down and told the receptionist and she said it's not my job! Wow what "teamwork" is that?! They were supposed to fix it the next day, never did thankfully I brought my tablet. After that everything was OK. Area is nice plenty of restaurants and transportation close. But I checked out and they have REFUSED to give me back my deposit. Have called several times and it's one excuse after another. Yes it's a cheap option but me personally will never stay here again.

Most disgusting and unsafe experience in my life. Your room is infested with 20+ bed bugs and various breeds of bugs. Don't believe me? Leave food out for 5 minutes and you will see. Front desk didn't seem bothered and didn't even say sorry. Do not stay here, no matter what. Bed bugs can transfer lifelong diseases from one person to another. People who stay here are loud. Walls are so thin. You can hear people's conversations. Trust me, spend the extra money and go somewhere else. It is a trap.

in this place, I experienced one of the most uncomfortable and I dare say, racist moment/check in of my life (please consider I used to work as Cabin Crew so imagine how many check-in memories I’ve had). The elderly red-headed lady at the reception was rude from the moment I arrived. When she asked for an ID I handed her my passport, trying to generate some rapport by saying: “Here is my passport… mi pasaporte”, yes, in Spanish. This drove this lady mad. She replied: “here it is Passport. You can call it however you want it in “your countries” but here it’s in English so say it in English. Show Respect.” I was shocked that an employee of a touristic business such a hotel would feel insulted and disrespected by hearing a different language such as is Spanish. I took this as a racist gesture. Yet I went on with the situation and decided not to argue. I have to admit this situation ruined that day for me. Need to acknowledge that the rest of the staff was fine, specially a young guy who was super helpful and supportive. The room was just ok. In conclusion, if you have no other option book this hotel and keep in mind not to speak in Spanish or show pride as a Latino. I hope that this hotel will address the situation and employee is given feedback on hospitality and how to treat International travelers.

I had a great time during my stay. I didn’t spend much time at the hotel as I was in San Francisco for business purposes, but it was a quiet place to sleep at the end of the day. The beds could be more comfortable, but my body got used to it after a couple of nights. If I had to complain about the hotel is that there are no bathrooms or showers in the rooms. You have to walk out into the hallway to use them, which can be annoying, but you get used to it after a day or two. Another thing is that they don’t have an iron in the rooms. I had to purchase one when I arrived at San Francisco. The location was excellent for me as it was only a 10 minute walk from the financial district. There are many restaurants around the area so getting food was never an issue. Public transport is easy and accessible. I would recommend not to bring a car as traffic can get hectic and parking is quite expensive in San Francisco. Overall, I would stay again at this hotel. It is not perfect, but it’s not bad either and for the price it’s hard to complain.

Update June 2023: stayed for 1 night before cruise. No roaches this time. Thank god. Decent price for location but still shared bathroom. Other info below from previous stay is still the same. ———————————- Room seemed cleaned until the roaches came out at night. No hooks or hangers in the room to hang towel or clothes. Bathrooms have no hand soap so imagine how gross the door knobs and surfaces are because you can’t wash your hands in there. Location is decent and it’s not too noisy from the street. SF is a dirty city and overpriced.

Not what I was expecting for a hotel but it's a place to sleep and a GREAT location for everything!!! But clearly this use to be a dormitory, turned into a hotel. I just wish I didn't have to share a bathroom with everyone else on my floor. Its still a unique setting and experience, kudos!!

Best cheap hotel in San Francisco! Sure it's old and beat up, shared bathrooms (which were always clean) but you can't beat the location and price! It's right between little Italy and Chinatown in North Beach. Walking distance to almost every tourist spot in San Francisco. Staff were always very nice and I didn't have any problems the whole week I was there.

Do NOT stay at this hotel. First, the lady in front counter was so incredibly rude the minute we walked thru the door. The hotel claims to have two twin size beds in the rooms but guess what they don't! Fake advertising at its finest. But wait there is more the place is infested with bugs, no air, rooms are so hot, no screens on windows. There is no shower or toilet in your room. Dont get me started on the LINEN. It was so grosss. PLEASE do not stay here this place should have a 0 star rating. The place is scary.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I would definitely recommend it to others as long as they know what type of hotel they are booking. It is not a Holiday Inn. It's an old fashioned european-style hotel with small rooms and bathrooms down the hall. It serves a combination of nightly travelers and monthly residents. My room was very clean, bed was small but comfortable, and it was quiet and I felt safe. Having the shower and toilet down the hall wasn't much of an issue. There were several on each floor and I didn't have to wait for anyone. It was kept clean and had piping hot water and good pressure. Soap, shampoo, and towels are in the room to bring with you. I recommend bringing a bath robe and some flip flops. There is a vending machine in the lobby, laundry on-site, free wi-fi that actually worked and the location can not be beat. If you are parking a car, Portsmouth Square garage is a couple of blocks away and the rate was $32 for overnight (as of 4/16/23). If you are looking for a place to simply lay your head at night and explore the city during the day, I highly recommend this hotel.

*Old* hotel in Financial/Chinatown/Little Italy. *All* shared bathrooms. Affordable. Hot showers. fridge/micro/sink in room. Cheap rooms NO VIEW. The affordable rooms face inside light well and other rooms. Rooms with view *hard* to get/mostly residents. Hotel North Beach is a combo hotel/residence. Expect what comes with it, cockroaches and disagreeable residents included. *Not* for families or the faint of heart. Good place to rest after clubbing all night, BUT doors are locked at ten. They will buzz you in. Front desk will not claim responsibility if washers or dryers in laundry room fail [please call the number on the wall]. thank you.

If you are in San Francisco for vacation, few more low cost hotels in 5 mins walking distance from Hotel North Beach, don’t let this hotel ruin your journey. 1) I was first arranged a room with more than 10 roaches, few in the sink, then on floor and on wardrobe door, I did not count how many, left h the room in 3 seconds. 2) the 2nd room is better, but I still killed 1 roach a day. 3) internet is not stable, discounted for 2 hours on a day, and on and off discounted for short while. 4) stain on bed 5) it’s right above a bar, noisy on Fri and Sat night. 6) the front desk staff called Heidi had the worst service that I have experienced. She is serving me but could not find a solve for a problem, she then move to serve the guy behind me in the queue without a solution for me, but you know what? That guy actually had the same problem as mine and Heidi again could not provide a solve for him. I told her I was in the queue and came before the other guy, she should serve me first, she answered “I’m busy!” Ha! What a service?!?!

This place is amazing both historical and charming and has so much history and personality staff was wonderful and very helpful I love the old historical building and they even have an old phone booth in the second floor price was perfect you are right in the middle of everything right in the hub Chinatown Little Italy 20 minute walk from the San Francisco Bay Pier beautiful and wonderful restaurants and bars and authentic Asian restaurants scenery is beautiful the architecture all around them is beautiful it was quiet and clean and the bathrooms were very clean and they were tiny cute little efficiency apartment type rooms felt safe there woke up smelling bleach because the bathrooms were being scrubbed out residents were very very friendly and like I said you're right in the hub of everything short walking distance from everything it was inexpensive and perfect for a one-night stay. When I looked this place up to find a room it was actually under a hostel I imagine because the shared bathrooms but we're very clean showers were hot and clean toilets etc very clean they did provide soap shampoo etc thought this place was perfect considering what was surrounding you the only outside noise was the busy San Francisco streets and the people that were enjoying Chinatown and Little Italy like I said the residents there not just the other hotel guests because people did live there we're super friendly. There are lamps in the room that work because the overhead light did not we were given keys to another room by the staff but that light didn't work either we were explained that the building is going under renovations it was a very very old historical building which I thought was super cool so we were cool with that this place has so much personality you'll never find anything like it and it was a perfect location we had no bugs it did not smell and was very clean the staff was super friendly and we met four of them in our one night stay

We always stay at Hotel North Beach for a reasonable price in the North Beach section of San Francisco. The rooms are small and the bathroom is down the hall. Not bad considering the low price. They are about half the price of most San Francisco motels/hotels. The rooms are really clean, and the room has TV, fridge, microwave, and wireless internet. The location is great, close to the sights and restaurants of Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town and North Beach.

Pay for budget, get budget. If you're on vacation, just pay the hundred dollars more to get a nicer hotel. Hot, small room, bed not amazingly comfortable, windows do not block sound at all. Bathrooms are in the hallways, couldn't get hot water out of the showers. Location good, atleast

It’s exactly what you pay for. I enjoyed my stay because I’m a young single traveler who didn’t spend much time in here except to sleep so the cheap room was exactly what I needed. Positive Notes: my room was clean and had the amenities I was looking for and needed like a refrigerator. The bathrooms were very clean and the shower had a really cute view of the city while I showered. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the city. Long term residence were quiet at night but loud music during the day. Negative notes: smelled of cigarette smoke every time I got back into my room. Saw some cockroaches and silver fish

It’s great for a solo traveler who doesn’t plan to spend a lot of their time in the room. Room was very nice and clean. Small in size but loved the design. Room is located in Chinatown and it can be very busy on the weekends. Front desk staff were very friendly. I love the fact that they lock the doors late at night. Bathrooms are in the hallway but there’s multiple on each floor. They don’t however, offer any toiletries or bath soaps in bathrooms except tissue but they are clean and well maintained throughout the day. I had a great stay here for what it was worth.

The hotel North Beach and it's third incarnation on this site is a historic hotel that borders the financial district Little Italy and Chinatown. It is affordable, the staff are friendly if you are friendly to them, the residents of the partial residential hotel are decent people and the place is relatively clean for its age and price. The elevator works. There is a laundry room with two working washing machines be nice and get your laundry out of there when you're done everything gets washed and dried for five bucks. The problem is the third floor button does not work. If you're handicapped stay on floor one or two. There is no breakfast but there is a Walgreens nearby as well as many many restaurants so if you have EBT you can use it at Walgreens or if you're rich you can buy a pizza on the corner corner. The rooms are very small I am not sure if there are rooms with private bathrooms I think there are but I am in a single room with shared bathroom there are many bathrooms there are many bathrooms some are different than others pick the one you like the best and use it some have toilet shower and sink in them some just have a toilet in them some just have a shower and the sink. There is a sink in every room. There is internet. The doors are locked from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. everyday the staff are willing to let you in if you stay out late. It's a decent affordable place to stay. Thank you and God bless.

Can't complain about the room quality with the low price. Bathrooms were conveniently accessible, but one of them didn't even have a place to wash hands, instead had a hand sanitizer. Didn't even have drinking water available anywhere.

Great hotel, for the price you're paying, specially booked online, clean rooms, staff are very kind and helpful, location close to everything, good neighborhood, but the only issue is no a/c, but weather is perfect, so no need to use a/c, and the noise of outside, if you don't mind sleeping with a bit of noise. Perfect for couple and single person travelin.

No air conditioning, no fans. Extremely hot. Have to keep windows open to get any air moving. No screens. Shared bathrooms. People very nice and helpful, rooms clean but small.

Give this Hotel a 3 Star rating because the amenities not included for your basic needs for soap, lotion, and shampoo. Otherwise, my stay here is fair. Also, the remote control didn't work for the Hisense Android Smart TV.0

It was good for the price. The rooms are clean, although there's a strange stinky smell in the hall. The restroom and shower was always clean, and it wasn't noisy. The neighborhood it's so good, there are a lot of restaurants and bars, but at night you can always listen homeless screaming. Other than that, it was very safe.
