This is a must see place with the biggest petrified trees in the world. The 20 minute easy hikes takes you up into the forest and across ancient ash flows that look like concrete. Throughout the hike are many different petrified trees. For more intrepid folks, there is another 20 minute loop to the meadow. This is a private family owned park with an affordable admittance fee. They committed to supporting & sharing this natural wonder. There are nice clean restrooms, picnic tables, and a gift shop with cold drinks. There were naturalists available that could answer our questions. They were very knowledgeable! After our hike we enjoyed a cold soda under the shade of a 600+ year old Oak tree. An extra bonus: we were able to bring our leashed dog. Wear sturdy shoes - the trail is good and wide, but has lots of stones. I regretted wearing sandals. It was 95° the day we were there. There is plenty of shade on the trail and several well placed benches if you need a rest.

Fair price for such an amazing glimpse of history. All for $12 for adults and $6 for kids you will get to see and learn all about petrified wood and what causes it. The trail is easy and well kept and the signs provide all the education you could need. We didn't go for the tour, but pretty sure that would have been the icing on the cake.Bring water, oh and use the nice bathrooms before you take off the trail.

Absolutely loved coming here, wasn't expecting much, but it delivered much more than I imagined. The hike was very leasurely and enjoyable. The self guided tour was awesome and we saw a lot of very interesting things. Would highly recommend this for any local or visiter as well. Lots of very cool geology to enjoy.

First off... great place! If you go from Safari West..do it! So close!! Now... if you are disabled that need a mobility scooter or chair, sorry. I just would look in the cool for shop and the main grounds. This IS actually the forest on a hill. There's a huge walking path, but it's steep and bumpy. No concrete until the last portion, and it's almost straight down. So.. keep that in mind, but try to go if you can! So neat and beautiful!

Another fun place to visit. Nice easy trails. Storyboards explain the process of how the trees became petrified. Very cool store.

A wonderful opportunity to explore solo, with friends and family. The gift shop is bountiful with great gifts from t-shirts, magnets, postcards and much more. Customer service is great and they take the time to go over the trails. There are benches along the trail to sit and take in the view like watching deer feed. Do yourself a favor and stop buy for an enjoyable experience.

Over 3:4 million years ago a volcanic eruption within the Mayacamas mountains, Calistoga region. The entire forests and hills were covered in volcanic ash. For thousands of years mineral rich water percolated the redwoods, preserving them. These are well preserved and a walk amongst these Petrified glorious Giant Redwoods is truly an amazing experience. Nature at all it’s glory ! The redwoods are giants amongst trees and range from up to 8 feet in diameter to 65 feet in length. Majestic wonders of Mother Earth. A must visit if in and around San Francisco Bay Area. Great geographical place for children to learn about the earths history. A small entrance fee of $12 & $6 ( kids) is totally worth the immersive experience. They have a gift shop selling fossils and pieces of the petrified wood and other souvenirs.

A commercial tourist park which is small but nice. Entry fee seems high for size of park and value of natural exhibits. Family owned for generations.

Worth the two (fairly easy) half- mile loop hikes. Unique and enjoyable blast from the past... literally 😆! Naturalist answered questions and fleshed out the interesting history.

It is very short but pleasant walk among interesting pieces of history. I wouldn’t call petrified forest but just petrified trees considering the very few well kept and preserved trees. Who became entities in the place and each one has a special designation and nick name. My husband and I with no hurry, making all stops possible taking lots of pics and reading all plates and following the map, took not more than 1 hour and 30 min to finish the both trails. It left us the sensation that under our feet there were many other trees in all region where the real petrified forest is.

Amazing historical site with million year old petrified forest remains. A short trail loop with legends and timeliness. They also have a small covered picnic area near the gift shop. Don't miss the short hike to the ash fall and view of Mt St Helena.

Nice place to visit, good for kids. The hike is not too bad at all, even with kids. Beautiful scenery, at a good price to visit.

It’s rather small, but it’s not every day you can actually see a 3.4M year old tree. If you like to think about the past and what it might have been like at the time of a volcanic eruption there is no better place.

Interesting little park the petrification process is interesting. To call it a petrified forest is a stretch. There are a few specimens on display which are neat.

To those who love watching the wonders of nature this is a place worth seeing. The petrified forest is well maintained and described. In the booking counter you are welcomed and along you get a literature wherein various points are nicely mentioned along with a brief history attached to different points. Various petrified tree trunks, volcanic Ash etc. can be seen and while leaving you get an opportunity to buy souvenirs of various related items. Overall a good experience.

Fossils are impressive, reasonably priced, it's a nice walk, and very well maintained. They have a nice picnic area and clean bathrooms.

Gorgeous easy trail with variations in landscape and views. No idea that there had been volcanic activity in this area millions of years ago or that ash fall could be this color or that trees could be turned into stone. Highly educational. Dave, the staff member who is posted near the big petrified sequoia has a WEALTH of knowledge and answered all our questions like a scientist. The gift shop is also fun to peruse with so many nature lovers’ items. It was a lovely afternoon! Tickets are a bit pricey for the size of the trail but it’s so well kept honestly you get what you pay for

The petrified trees felled by a volcanic explosion of Mount Saint Helena are very impressive. They look really like wood but are indeed in stones. They are quite big as being redwood ancestors. The visit is a short half mile loop trail with another mile long alternative trail to have a view on Mount Saint Helena. Recommended for those interested in geology or unusual things. This is not an attraction park but a simple trail in the woods with a few signs.

This was a very unique place to visit. The short trip around the trail is about half a mile with an additional short loop. Each area has signs with information about the trees and the process. Staff was friendly and full of information. Totally worth a visit if you are in the area.

It's so cool to see 3 million year old trees that have petrified! Short hike, maybe 20 minutes to tour the whole thing, but there's many places to have a picnic. The store is cool, I bought a lot of rocks. I'm glad to have stopped here.

Interesting to see the petrified trees, and fun to feel the smaller pieces they don't rope off. A bit smaller than we had hoped: We were done in half an hour.

This place was so cool. I love the history of it. It's not a bad little 1 mile hike.

Worth the time to explore a Natural Wonder on Private Land. Leader Lead Tours or Self-guided. Be sure to visit the Gift Store filled with educational books to jewelry.
