The food was above average (6/10). But service was great(9/10). The location is perfect for tourists visiting the golden gate park. Their masala dosa is definitely not giving them good points especially with their name being the same. It is not an very large place but small and cozy.

Masala Dosa Restaurant deserves a solid 5 stars! The Veg Pakoda was incredibly crispy and perfectly cooked. Tea was very refreshing, service was very fast, and the overall ambience was fantastic. A delightful dining experience worth recommending.

The restaurant is in a good location but there was no parking space available nearby and we had to park our vehicle in a parallel street. Food was delicious but the customer service was not great. The staff at the restaurant was a bit rude. We ordered fried idli, sambar vada and chai. Everything tasted good and I especially loved their fried idli and the chutneys that came along. 4 stars for taste and only 2 stars for service.

What a lovely find. My husband is currently in the hospital, and I brought him some Thai food the other night from the place on the same block, and I am absolutely thrilled this place caught my eye. We had the Tandoori prawns, chicken tikka masala, basmati rice, and naan. Everything was superb, the restaurant was charming, and the young lady who took care of me was super friendly, and kind. I never post reviews, but I work in the industry, and I truly felt a moral obligation to hype this spot up. It is sincerely a gem, just all around delightful from the zen decor, food, and lovely staff. New favorite spot for Indian cuisine in SF hands down.

(Vegetarian) I liked the food overall. We got the mysore masala dosa and onion chili utthapam. The man who greeted us and served us was nice and friendly. Food came out quickly. The sambhar and lal chutney were delicious. We went around six for an early dinner and the man was chuckling by how quickly we scarfed down our food. Not sure why the reviews are so low. I would go again for a casual, craving Dosa night.

After reading reviews on Yelp and then here, I began to notice something peculiar. Especially recently, there were a few overlapping reviews (as in the names and scenarios seemed to be the same person) and in all the positive ones, the wording was slightly different, explaining an event in detail, but for all the negative ones, all the wording was exactly the same in each review, like it had been copy pasted. Maybe they just didn’t feel like retyping everything so they did copy paste, I hear you say. Could be the case. But idk, seemed weird. Anyways, def take the reviews with a grain of salt, including mine, but you owe it to yourself to try this place. The service and ambiance is great but the food is even better in my opinion. Will definitely be back

Delicious biryani and curries. Ghee idli sambhar was yum too. Try murgh masala for sure! Gulab jamun are worth trying too.

We visited masala dosa for dinner tonight. This was a quiet place with surprisingly amazing and authentic tasting Indian food. We had the idlis and dosas with chutneys and sambar that tasted very close to what we have back home in India. Food was fresh and the chutneys too despite visiting around closing time. Staff is sweet and the service quick! ❤️

A relaxing place to enjoy some healthy Indian food with friends and/or family. I like that they have some of the dishes which I don't find in many other Indian restaurants, like Idly and Dosa. Papadum and Mango Lassi are always my favorite. All the curry dishes are good. There are also gluten-free dishes available. Service is courteous. A good neighborhood restaurant that's easy to bypass.

Delicious food, will definitely be coming in again. Everything had perfect amount of flavor! My wife likes spicy but I don't and we were both very happy! We got take out.. Tandoori Prawn and Chicken Tikka Masala. Be sure to get a side of rice as many dishes are a la carte unless otherwise specified. And don't forget the naan (they have garlic naan for those garlic lovers) 5/5 from us. Next time I will be trying a lamb dish and tandoori chicken. Thank you Masala Dosa!

I’ve almost tried the entire menu at Masala Dosa, and they continue to impress! Their food is consistently delectable, and I’ve never been disappointed. For those seeking an authentic Indian culinary experience in San Francisco, Masala Dosa is the undisputed choice.

After a stroll up to Golden Gate Bridge in the dense fog, we needed to fuel up ourselves. Tracked down Masala Dosa, a casual food joint based on a busy street, however, surprisingly, it wasn't too busy. Found a cozy corner and ordered for South Indian delicacies along with Murgh Masala (chicken). Our food was served in the next few minutes. I liked each and every food item served to us— Masala Dosa, Idli paired with yummy tomato chutney and Sambar. Don't be confused with the name of the restaurant, they also serve North Indian food and I believe their strong suit is the Mango Lassi. Parking- No designated parking space, we street parked our car one block away and walked a few steps. Our server was respectful. #Day1 #SFO

It's an average place with average-good food but what threw off me and my friend was the rude owner. The place was empty and we were just taking some extra time after eating (there was still food on our plates) when he came up to us and asked us to leave if we were done eating. We found it really rude of him (especially considering the whole place was empty!) - now we know why. And although we liked the food, we won't go there again.

The samosas marked gluten free are not actually gluten free! Confirmed not GF by a cook at the restaurant after I ate them and got very sick. Please be careful if you have Celiac.

Pro Neat and clean. Tea was good. Pakoda was good Cons Long wait time Not value for money Vada was bad / very hard along the sides Biriyani was just mix of curry and rice Mango juice was served by adding a lot of water We were a groupof 7 and gratuity was charged, but would be happy if it was served on time.

Excellent Southern Indian food near the Golden Gate Park on 9th Avenue! Good service by the owner / chef and pleasant ambiance. Our favorites are Papadum, Dosa, Uthappam, Naan bread, Idli appetizer, Curries, authentic Chai tea, and light delectable dessert 🍨. We are Foodies & our Chinese-Filipino taste buds’ palates enjoyed eating here regularly.

Grabbed a quick lunch with a coworker here, as the restaurant we wanted to go to was unexpectedly closed on a Friday afternoon. We went here not expecting much, ordered their garlic basil naan, chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani. I have to tell you, the Lamb biryani was heavenly! Perfectly spiced basmati rice, lamb meat was very tender and was not gamey. The naan was great as well, apparently the yellow tinge of the naan is like what it is in India and not a lot of American Indian restaurants have this yellow naan. I was not impressed with their chicken tikka masala, was a bit runny for my liking, and seamed like it was missing something, but could not pin point what... but otherwise, this restaurant is quite good!

I've never had a bad experience dining in or ordering delivery from Masala Dosa. Their food is flavorful and the staff is attentive and friendly. If you have a reservation, I recommend arriving 15-20 minutes early to secure a parking space beacause parking is a mess down there. Highly recommend their stuffed Naan breads and (of course) their Dosa.

Great location and good food. It’s nice that they have dosa menu too. We liked paratha, chicken tikka masala and of course paper dosa!

We came here for dinning but parking situation is a mess in SF. Hence decided to take out. Sambar was too thin and tasteless. Tomato Chutney was ok and the green one tasted pathetic. Nonetheless, 2 stars for soft Idli, good service and polite staff.

This place has some delicious Indian cuisine! We had the Garlic Naan, the Goat Cheese Stuffed Naan, Basmati Rice, Chicken Madras Curry, and Seekh Kabab Uthappam (made with lamb). We had enough leftovers for another meal the next day. My fiance is Maharastrian from Pune, India and he said we will definitely be coming back. This place deserves a much higher rating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
