Open for 173 years for a reason! This restaurant came highly rated by my Croatian friends and it was a great recommendation. The restaurant feels "old school" which is awesome and a totally different atmosphere than other restaurants in the area. The food is terrific, we tried the crab cakes and the salmon based on the servers suggestions. The service is top-notch and to top things off there is still a Croatian that worked there and he stopped by our table to speak the old language a bit. I am a first generation Croatian-American and a Cali Boy so coming to the first restaurant in California opened by 3 Croatian immigrants was a perfect match. Thank you for the fantastic evening. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to drop by again.

This restaurant is right down the street from my job. A couple of my coworkers went here for lunch to welcome a new staff member. I didn’t know the restaurant’s history and was pleasantly surprised. It was a great experience for someone who just moved to the city. I had the crab cakes on the recommendation from our waiter. They were delicious. We finished with a slice of the Belgian chocolate cake. We all thought it was divine. We’ll be back for more.

Loved the atmosphere of historical landmark. We went a party of 5 people, we ordered a lot of food and shared to try all dishes. Food was good, but we enjoyed more the old fashion atmosphere. Service was right on the time, drinks were little bit late.

One of the oldest restaurants in the area and we’ve received many recommendations to come and eat here. Known for their seafood. We got some calamari, bay shrimp cocktail, a crab cakes, crab louie and ahi tuna salad. The crab cakes are great, basically all crab! The sauce on it was great too. But the best thing was the crab louie. Big and plentiful fresh chunks or crab with homemade dressing over lettuce. I should have gotten that over the ahi tuna salad. Which was good too, but the crab louie was even better.

Dining at Tadich Grill, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in San Francisco, is like stepping back in time. The food is fresh and simply prepared, with ample portions that will satisfy the hungriest of diners. The clam chowder was warm and sumptuous, with a prominent green pepper flavor that distinguished it from the chowder I’m used to eating on the east coast. The fries were crispy and flavorful, and the oysters Rockefeller were massive, with more greens and bubbling cheese than oyster. The pan fried sole was tender and flavorful, and the mixed seafood salad was loaded with shrimp, prawns, and crab. Overall our meal was delicious, and the service was attentive and prompt. If you are a fan of old-school restaurants with history and classic American seafood dishes, look no further than Tadich Grill.

Plenty of service at Tadich Grill. This is one of the oldest restaurants in the US. The menu is extensive. Probably a good idea to make a reservation as it is popular. Plate servings are large for some dishes and you are given crunchy bread on arrival at the table.

Iconic San Francisco restaurant with a full bar, privacy booths for parties of 4 to 6, linen tablecloths and a cool, old fashioned vibe. Everything was delicious, from the fresh Caesar salad and clam chowder soup, to our entrees: salmon and crab Newburg and ribeye steak. My portion was so big I took half of it home!

Being an historical landmark, I’m sure many tourists like myself frequent this restaurant, but I have to say that it did not disappoint. Food was excellent as was the service. The waiter was perfect in his timing and everything was choreographed to perfection. Our dinner was the highlight of a quick trip to the city. It was the real deal!

Went with a party of 4 for a weekday lunch. No wait. Service was friendly. However, the kitchen forgot to start the orders for half of our table! They apologized and offered some soup on the house. Dishes were tasty but heavy! Old school vibes and classic food.

Outstanding flavors. I can see why this place has been around so long. Wonderful service. We spent more than normal at lunch because we had drinks and dessert. The cioppino, crab cakes, Boston chowder, chocolate cake and cocktail were all fantastic.

I understand the hype behind this restaurant due to its history but the food was just okay. Tadich grill has been in my to go list for a while and I finally got to visit yesterday. Sadly it did not meet my expectations. Overall the atmosphere is great and service is great but the food itself was not good. We started the meal with COLD bread which was a bit hard. The clam chowder was just okay and the seafood was a bit better but not amazing. I was able to experience the restaurant but I won’t be coming back.

Excellent tasty food. The seafood stew was a highlight! We dipped the bread slices into the stew and it was heaven. The seafood pasta was also wonderfully cooked and savory. I would go back for the seafood pasta and the stew. The rice pudding was delicious. I would save some room for the rice pudding next time as it is unexpectedly flavorful with soft texture. The server and bar was quite busy for sat night and drink for my friend took a long time. This is a popular place and has lots of history. Atmosphere was quite loud and tight space. Good for friends and family gatherings but might not be ideal for first time meeting someone.

This place is great! Really authentic (traditional) and the food is good. Portions are big. We had a seafood platter and the products are fresh, the Caesar salad was great, and the Ciopino fantastic! Couple things aren’t as breathtaking but the classics didn’t fail. Worth visiting.

Just wanted to experience the CA oldest restaurant. Atmosphere was good. I ordered cioppino (SF originated dish). Portion was ok, not enough for 58$. They could have done better on taste as well. May be cioppino is not thier expertise. Sourdough was extremely chewy. Overall good but an expensive experience. 1 extra star for just being the oldest in CA.

Excellent food with a classic no-nonsense San Francisco vibe. The service here is great as are the drinks. I almost always get the smoke trout appetizer and the cioppino for my entree. Delicious.

i took a friend who had never been. My first visit in a decade. Atmosphere still great. Service still classic and old fashioned and still sexist be with all-male professional waitstaff today as in the past. The food is the same. Classic, old-fashioned, a little bland. But my pork chops were perfect, the steamed vegetables fresh and al dente but plain. Ordinarily I would say it's impossible to have too much butter on or in anything, but the garlic bread was soaked in in it. Desert selection limited. Some outdoor sidewalk seating. There was no plenty of seating at the bar if you showed up without reservations, but I recommend reservations unless you're solo and like the bar. I wasn't disappointed, the quality was still high, and I'm grateful this historic SF institution has survived. Business was good, but not mobbed like the old days. Recommended. Ownership appears to still be in the Buich family.

Tadich Grill was recommended to us by three different people. Best clam chowder ever last night! Returned tonight and had the Salmon Steak. The food did not disappoint. We're from Alberta Canada and will recommend Tadich Grill to anyone we know coming to or through San Francisco. 😋

Celebrated my husband’s birthday by having a wonderful dinner here., We ordered 2 drinks named Aviation 🍸 We loved it, ordered the Rockefeller oysters, it was so yummy and gooey with the perfect amount of cheese over it with a lovely purée spinach. For entrée I took the calamari steak , it was cooked with perfection and had great crust that came with 2 potato wedges and grilled vegetables, and my husband took cioppino accompanied with 2 garlic slices of bread. My husband was very impressed with the size of shrimps (small and big) There were clams mussels and crab meat in it too . For dessert we took a slice of the Belgian chocolate cake, so so sinful 🤤 We will be back again!!

A must stop on any SF trip. One of the only true old time places left. Nobody does oysters like them! And their drinks are not watered down. A real martini!

High ranking quality, but a bit stuffy in the service department. Dismayed that a party of two isn’t allowed a reservation (last time I was able to reserve a party of two, no problem) despite traveling a long distance and wanting an excellent dining experience via an attempt to reserve and we were instead seated at the bar, rather than a table like I had preferred.

This place is a relic. You can go to Michelin star restaurants but this is old California. Sand Dabs, Branzino, artichoke, and prawn cocktail. Juri our waiter was a CIA graduate from Hyde Park. It was a great experience.

I stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. I was hungry after a long flight and little did I know it was the oldest restaurant in San Francisco. I wanted to eat something local, so I asked for a clam chowder and they had it, and it was delicious. However, this place is not quite about food which is great - it’s about history and they’re doing good preserving it!

Finally here again after 7 years, have been craving for their #SeafoodCioppino with #GarlicBread since then. The taste is just wonderful. Their #Ravioli and #FriedClamStrips are just okay. Visiting Tadich Grill since 1976, this institution hasn't changed much: unfortunatly, the bar became shorter and the Brandy Alexander doesn't exist anymore, but the very friendly service, the wide menu with excellent fish, seafood and meat is still served in best quality. An unforgettable visit for non-fast fooders; booking in advance is highly recommended!

Tadich is many things -- the oldest San Francisco restaurant, a pinnacle of 20th century seafood cuisine, a trip down memory lane where grizzled career waiters in white tuxes become long lost uncles after your 3rd ice cold martini, and I'd argue the home of one of the most important 21st century things: a absolute banger of a meal sized salad. Yes. The cosmopolitan salad is, at $38, as expensive as it is huge. But a trip to Tadich is a celebration and a splurge and this salad proves that it can also be healthy. Dungeness Crab, bay shrimp, anchovies, huge prawns, hard boiled eggs, and symphony of veggies make this a filling, satisfying, yet calorie light meal. I get mine with the vinaigrette instead of the Louis dressing. When I'm not watching my weight, I get the sand dabs! Just a few reservations are taken -- be a little patient and they'll get you in!

Great dinner at the bar in one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. Doesn’t get any better than this. Thank you .

This place is an iconic place for food!! It’s a lil hole in the wall & there maybe a wait if you don’t have a reservation. There is street parking but you have to find it. The food was delicious & served quickly. They close the kitchen down at 2 & then turn the place over for dinner so check out the hours before you go.

Such good food and service. Tadich grill really knows what they’re doing and the atmosphere inside is so welcoming. We ordered the mesquite halibut and prime rib with a Dungeness Crab Cake with House Aioli. That crab cake was the best I’ve ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly, the Boulevardier drinks were spectacular, the caramel chocolate walnut torte (the waiter warned us it wouldn’t come with walnuts that evening) was also delightful paired with an Irish coffee. The tables and chairs were comfortable and they had hooks in the walls by our table at least (not sure about others) to hang a purse and jackets. The wait staff was superb. Our waiter was quick, professional, knowledgeable, witty and charming. Prompt service but never overbearing. MUST go visit if you’re in the city. They do have reservations but I noticed people were outside in a line for walk ins and they were able to sit at the bar until a table became available.

Thee MOST satisfying meal I've ever had!! Perfect Gin Martini! Amazing ambiance! The oldest restaurant I've ever visited, I hope they hit their 200 year anniversary!! This is a MUST if you can get there!

If I could give this place more stars, I would! The lovely Jose managed to fit in our party of 8 on a last minute request and every single person in our group raved about their food. Absolutely fantastic, great atmosphere, lovely staff. Will definitely be back!

If you’re a historical buff, you must stop by tadich grill. One of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco; the look and feel of this place takes you back to the old days. Food is also tremendous - large portions. Always a treat to see the white-dressed waiters greeting you. If you love seafood, get cioppino! San Francisco must have - and this place has a pretty bomb cioppino!

  • 5/5 Amy W. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco. No reservations, so get there thirty minutes to an hour early before you want to eat. You know the saying, "it was worth the wait"? It definitely is! You won't be disappointed! The staff is exquisite just like the food.

  • 2/5 Icharo S. 1 year ago on Google
The food is good, but the service was… as it was my last dinner in SF, it was just right spot for it. Very traditional place. But it was disappointing. The waiter tried to take the plate A LOT of times even though we were still eating. I tried to tell the waiter to wait on it a little bit but he didn’t stop… I felt very rushed, we were eating at average pace and it was not close to closing time. I wouldn’t come back sadly.
