If there was negative star option, I would give them -1000. We recently took our newborn baby who was vomiting blood to the ER here. First of all at the reception, they were just casually taking to each other ignoring our blood vomiting baby. They did a test and found out there were ulcers inside his stomach. Doctors couldn’t find find the reason so they decided to blame us, the family , and called CPS on us. I asked if this was a such case here, they told me they had the very exact case before and couldn’t find the reason either. The reason why they didn’t call CPS on them was they were white. Now this is a clear case defamation and discrimination. Thankfully, our baby is doing fine. But I question the professional and lack of empathy at this hospital. I wonder the if heartless lady who called CPS was n us even has her medical license. THEY TORTURED US FOR TWO WEEKS.

I spent 30 minutes in a 25 person line in the main lobby to check in for an appointment I had on the 5th floor where I checked in again.

My mother was admitted in this hospital on 3/14/22. Today is 3/17 and she is still in emergency room!!! They don't have rooms available!! She can't take a shower, she has to ask 2-3 times if she needs something. She has problem with stomach and heartbeat and might need a surgery. Nothing was done. Food is horrible. As my mom said our cat wouldn't eat it. Is it a hospital or concentration camp???

If i could give zero star, i would. I had similar experience as the previous reviewer where i was charged exorbitant amount for lab fees (routine tests) that insurance cannot even cover. On top of that, they managed to sneak in a diagnosis code for my routine check up - simply because i answered the doctor a question on my allergy. I'm still in dispute with them and definitely do not recommend unless you want to get scammed. After i complained about it in my message with the doctor's office, they simply disabled the messaging. LOL

Very rude station nurse and room staff, ignoring patients' needs. Most doctors and triage nurses are good though. Extremely long wait time. Sometimes, they just let you sit on a wheelchair on the hallway during the entire stay. The facility has enough rooms, but they only made half available.

Worst care in recovery ever! Nurse Eunice Bengo RN is very lazy and rude. I had to ask her to help me with my blankets and she stated you have too many. Also, didn’t ask if I needed assistance with walking to the restroom. I came back and she never hooked me back to my IV. To top it off, she said I should be discharged because they need the rooms. As if that was her decision. Stay away from this hospital. After all I was admitted. She suggested I have an late discharge. Stated tell my husband to go home and come back. I live 50 minutes away.

The hospital itself is okay. However, never bring a vehicle here! The average cost of a trip to the ER for parking will cost you $35. They offer a voucher to lower the cost to $22 for the day, but it is almost impossible to get. It used to be that you could get one from your nurses. Now you can only get them from. Parking services who are almost never around after 6pm. God forbid you get discharged late at night and have been parked there for a few days because you are going to have a 3 figure parking expense to have to pay just to leave. Hospitals that charge for parking are nothing but greedy pocket liners with no souls. They even force their own employees to pay for parking. Furthermore, parking is sometimes impossible to find, and people start parking along walls that are not actually a parking space. I would honestly rather bleed out and die than have to go here for treatment because I would not want to subject my loved ones to the cost of parking here! It's bad when most of the staff can't even park here because it costs way too much for them to afford. I don't care how good the care is. If they nickel and dime this bad for parking, imagine how expensive your treatments will be! Heck, you could leave here with a bill that will leave you homeless unless you have impeccable insurance coverage. Shame on the administration of this hospital for caring more about money than human decency! If I ever find myself waking up in an ER bed here, I will either walk out or take my own life to ensure my family doesn't get stuck with an impossible bill! In response to the response: This issue has been brought up to Patients Relations countless times since the opening of this campus. Unfortunately, due to my wife's specialty condition, only two hospitals in the region are able to treat her. It is already an hour long drive at best to get here and would be an additional hour to go even further to Stanford. For perspective, $35 a day is what my rent comes out to. Given that I am lucky to only have to pay 1k a month where I live, given rent at say 5k a month, $35 is 20% of one's daily rent. Never mind the fact that the hospital is already making money off their patients' stays. Please explain to us all why you can justify such an expense placed upon people who need to get treatment. At least at the old campus, it was easy to get your voucher, and with using one, it only cost $12 for the day. I get that you want to charge to avoid the general public for just using the garage for other daily tasks in the area. However, there needs to be a better plan in place to make it more affordable for those that are stuck receiving care here. No on should have to do what we did just to save money by sleeping in the vehicle until the parking office opened in the morning just to save money. By spending the night in the car, we saved $39 but didn't feel great afterwards.

The Labor and Delivery and NICU teams do an awesome work. The rest is very disappointing. After my wife delivered, we ordered food hot food around 4:30pm. The menu they propose looks good… but my wife waited until 7pm without food. We complained to the nurse who didn’t really care. After a number of phone calls to the nurse, cold sandwiches were delivered. Unacceptable - they should have said early they couldn’t deliver the food, not let my wife be hungry after such a tough day :(

Our daughter fell down. Her top teeth hit the upper lip. The bleeding could not stop. We went to the hospital, CPMC Van Ness Campus Emergency. Doctors and nurses help us a lot because our daughter is 4 years old, she cried all time. They tried to make our daughter stop crying. So, they blew balloons, gave the stickers, brought the dog to help, and turned on TV. They was very patient with our daughter. We are thankful to all of you. Thank you very very much. 🙏🏼

This review is more for a nurse at labor and delivery. I think her name was Shelby. She was very loud, obxious, and unprofessional. It seemed that she thrived on giving orders to her patients and pushing what she thought was right for them. Very combative. Where she justified it as "tough love". I felt tense when I was there trying to deliver a baby. My intention was to have a calm peaceful birth however, this nurse talked loudly and in the middle of drawing my blood had a full on conversation with her coworker while poking me everywhere not focused on drawing the blood. In the middle of a c section you could her speaking loudly and joking with her coworkers while I had emotional c section. Hopefully u won't have to experience this. She was also very rough in all the things she tried to do physically with my body while I was pregnant and laboring. Hopefully you will luck out and not get her.

Get ready for a book! LOL. I recently had a lengthy stay at this hospital in the oncology ward. I would give them 5 stars if not for 3 things (read further). That being said, overall, my experience here was incredible - and I say that strictly because of the staff. I have been in and out of a multitude of hospitals and ERs since I was a child. By far, the people working the 9th floor in Oncology were the sweetest and most compassionate people I've ever had the pleasure of being treated by. I was there for some time and met MANY nurses; almost every single one had the most amazing mindset about their patients: they treated and cared for (us) as though (we) were family. They are passionate about their jobs and responsibilities and above all - KIND-HEARTED!! I had nurses who cried with me, held my hand, offered comfort... It was unbelievable, quite honestly. The team there works well together and they all seem to be on the same page in regards to compassionate care. The reason for 4 stars: 1) I had the misfortune of running into a really nasty night doctor who was (immediately) aggressive, dismissive, abrasive, disrespectful, impatient, and incredibly rude to me - for no good reason. When I told him (he had his arms crossed and was talking down to me), "You seem very aggressive." He raised his voice and responded with, "Well maybe I'm tired!" "Maybe leaning against this [wall] is really uncomfortable!" "Maybe I've had a long night!" "Maybe I have over 20 patients to watch over..." He went on and on. He did seem tired. And he was working oncology - which is not an easy ward, still, I did not deserve that. I was upset and he was there because I wanted to leave; for 2 fairly critical reasons: 2) I had a body heart monitor on and had an episode (I woke from a sound sleep with my heart racing at 133 BPM, severe arrhythmia, and palpitations) the nurses on shift forgot to change the battery on the monitor - and no one came to assist me. 3) My allergy list was adjusted during my stay here (which is fine) EXCEPT, a medication I am deathly allergic to was accidentally deleted and then ordered to be given to me (!!!); I know it was a mistake, but had I been given the medicine, my stay might have ended horrendously. For these 2 reasons, I no longer felt safe there and I asked to be discharged as soon as possible. It was 4 am - my doctor(s) were not there and that was when I met the night doctor: He gave me a really hard time over my decision and was dismissive about THEIR mistakes. Other than that, I was very pleased with the staff: whenever someone needed to touch me, they asked permission or told me what they were going to do before doing it. The head cook (Robert) came up to my room to talk to me about my ridiculous amount of food allergies - this amazing man was incredibly educated in allergies and food allergies. He was patient, thoughtful and kind and even went out to a grocery store to buy me a loaf of bread - with his own money and on his own time! During my stay, I could not eat off the standard menu - every dish was custom made for me and he also used his "purple" utensils (a separate, special bag of utensils) to cook my food as to avoid any contamination issues. Bless his heart. He is a keeper! LOL Then, there was RN Rattanna - one of the nights there I was having an especially difficult time... she came in and stayed with me for a hour (at least) - we shared stories and she comforted me - I will never forget (you) - an incredible woman, person and nurse! *heart* Dr. Werbaneth - an amazing doctor, heavily educated in her field and very compassionate, thoughtful and patient. I feel blessed to have been connected with her. RN Ben - my last day was "rough" to say the least. Ben asked me if he could hold my hand. I needed that. He held my hand and comforted me... He was supportive and caring... I can not speak highly enough about the ppl I mentioned (and there are others I didn't mention that deserve similar recognition; I haven't forgotten about you). *hugs* and respect across the board. Thank you all - *hugs*

Whatever you do don't ask Dr. Raphael Merriman questions or expect a call back from him or his staff because he gets really angry. If your family members ask questions he feels threatened and retaliates by threatening to discharging the patient. How can you live with yourself by not answering simple questions about a family member and your patient who is dying and needs a life saving liver transplant. Or better yet, manipulate the situation by asking the patient if they think he is doing a good job or if they trust him. Then gives an ultimatum to the dying patient, if your family doesn't stop calling and emailing me I'm going to discharge you from my practice because this is hurting my feelings. Dr. Merriman claims to be a teacher but he can't answer questions. So I withdrew my complaint with Sutter, the Medical Board of California, and Quality of Care but not before explaining why. Sad, really sad.

I have inflammation in my knee from gout. The triage nurse was cool but the Dr. ordered an x-ray which was unessesary because I told him I didn't fracture or injure my knee. I was then put in lobby after and observed many people who came after me come and go. The triage nurse saw me in the lobby and he said, "you are still here". They totally forgot about me. I finally saw the Dr.and he would not give me a cortisone shot for my imflamation issue. He finally prescribed Tylenol, Ibuprofen to and Oxy. Nothing to combat my acute imflamation. I have been taking Advil for 3 weeks now and he wasn't concerned about that. So a day later I still have severe pain and swelling and popping Advil every 6 hours to alleviate my pain and my issue hasn't been resolved. I will say everyone was polite

The nurses and doctors here went above and beyond in caring for my mother. They were sensitive to our needs as a family, despite the difficulties and demands of Covid. We drove past many other hospitals much closer to our home to bring my mother here so she could be among staff that really treated her like family.

As a resident of Tulare County, my ex wife was taken to CPMC for medical specialists that were not available at a local hospital. Such an amazing difference! As her caregiver, I was on the phone daily with her nursing staff, MD's and/or surgeon. ALL staff who cared for her were extremely considerate, compassionate and most of all ACCURATE during her 20 day stay. I'm incredulous while reading negative 1 & 2 star reviews about parking & hot food. Of course parking is costly, it's SF proper! And, Look at that hospital menu! Kitchen staff must know in advance for hot meals to remain efficient. NO ONE will suffer dire consequences for having a cold sandwich brought to them. Those who have opportunity to be treated at this excellent hospital should be grateful instead of complaining about trivial things. Thank you CPMC & ALL staff. Yes, housekeeping, I see you.

Totally unprofessional, I was rushed in by EMT for a major cardiac event where I had passed out cold and turned blue, they did absolutely nothing for 1 and a half hours and I mean nothing not even registration which was super wierd, given my very critical history I was expecting at least 24 hours observation if not a full work up of my cardiac problems, nada, all doctors are absent full of NPs and nurses with bitter attitude issues, 90% of patients are turned out and away. B.S. Beauracrat hospital, avoid.

Im writing to complaint of un empathetic visitor policy. My husband and I flew in from Arizona specifically to provide family support for a patient daughter and two grandchildren. The policy is such that two people can be with the patient which is reasonable, however, they have to be same people and cannot switch out. Because I and one grandson visted, the patients daughter and granddaughter were kept out. Charge nurse and nursing supervisor confirmed this highly unreasonable policy.

I've been in the ER twice recently & have nothing but good things to say: I was seen very quickly, medical staff were very personable, helpful, informative, and competent. Neither visit was complicated, but I watched the staff with other patients & they also seemed great. In the past, I've gone to UCSF with family members. UCSF is clearly very good medically - but has an awful, almost impenetrable bureaucracy.

As someone who recently underwent liver surgery, I cannot speak highly enough of the outstanding care I received from the nurses and staff at the 10 West of the CPMC at Van Ness. From the moment I arrived to the day of my discharge, their professionalism, expertise, and kindness were truly exceptional. The nursing team was remarkable in their knowledge and skills. They consistently monitored my condition, administered medications, and provided wound care with utmost proficiency. Their attention to detail and adherence to best practices for infection control was evident at every step, which gave me a sense of security during my recovery. They were also prompt in addressing any concerns or questions I had and always took the time to explain things in a way that was easy to understand. I felt well-informed and empowered to actively participate in my own care. But it wasn't just their expertise that left an impression on me; their genuine compassion and empathy made all the difference. The nurses and staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and well-being, providing emotional support and reassurance during moments of discomfort or anxiety. They were not only caregivers but also trusted allies in my healing process. Their compassionate care helped ease my fears and made my recovery journey more manageable. Furthermore, the entire nursing team demonstrated excellent teamwork and coordination, collaborating seamlessly with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to my care. Everyone worked harmoniously, from the physicians to the technicians to the administrative staff, to create a safe and healing environment. The hospital facilities were clean, well-maintained, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which further contributed to the high standard of care I received. The nurses and staff were meticulous in following infection control protocols and maintaining a safe environment, which was particularly crucial during these times of heightened awareness about infection prevention. I am deeply grateful to the nurses and staff at 10 West for caring for me after my liver surgery. Their exceptional care, professionalism, expertise, and compassion made my experience as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of medical care. Thank you for being the true champions of healthcare!

Labor and Delivery - My wife and I went here for the birth of my son. To say the least, it is the nurses that make this place such as a great experience as they are the ones that tend to your questions and concerns day or night while you are there ( doctors were awesome also). Special thanks to nurses Mandy, Judy, Jenny, Leidi, Kimie, Christa, Melina, Joleen (sp), Lyne, and Tanya were awesome.

THIS IS ABOUT PARKING! Today, I spent an hour trying to get out of the parking lot. I paid my bill, got my receipt but my not my ticket. Naturally, I went to the attendant’s office. Not a soul! Returned to the car & tried the exit intercom. No luck! Intercom kept telling me to enter my phone #. No touch pad! Tried all intercoms; they all got stuck repeating the same message. Arrgh! Buzzed security. He didn't even believe me when I summarised the experience. Kept telling me that he's never heard of this before & to try the intercom again. At this point, I'm fuming. He said that they weren't associated with parking. A new billion dollar hospital and they can’t get their third party support to do the basics. Communicate! Repeated every step including security. Nothing! So I set the door alarm off. 10 minutes later and no one even checked the alarm. Anyway, cut an extremely long story short. Amber from security & Pricilla helped me escape that place. I appreciate them placating me; yes, I was really angry. CPMC need to ensure that all their third party support speak the same language and in this case that a parking attendant is available 24x7.

This is a follow up to my review from 11 months ago. My sister was called that a liver was available for her on October 24. She drove to CPMC with her husband. Transplant was done and on November 3rd she has a heart attack. We are told she is bleeding internally they want to take her to surgery. It's now November 5th and no surgery has been done to stop the bleeding and she is now on life support. I send an email on behalf of my nephew, to Beth Shindler asking for status and for a doctor to call one of my sisters sons. Dr. Merriman shows up in the ICU in my sisters room and he is more worried about my email making him look bad than he is at taking care of my sister who is bleeding internally and on life support. Finally, she is going into surgery and but she is bleeding profusely per Dr. A. Then Dr. Merriman goes on to clarify in my sisters daily progress note that, "The patients husband indicated he is "100% satisfied with the care provided by CPMC and Dr. Merriman specifically." "I confirmed with the husband that the patients next of kin contacts listed in EPIC included patients husband, 2 sons, and daughter in law ONLY!" As of November 2022, I had to be removed as my sisters primary contact and caregiver because per Dr. Merriman "Your sister has become a threat." On 11/16 the doctors told my nephew, "They have thrown all Hail Mary's and she will be lucky to survive the night." My sister died on 11/17/2023💔

Very good hospital. The obstetricians here are very professional and deal with the crisis in a timely manner (Chang from Northeast Medical), and there is another doctor and anesthesiologist who helped me with the operation. The nurses are very friendly (including the fifth floor, the eighth floor and the intensive care unit). The indoor environment is very clean. All in all, everything here is the best arrangement, thanks to everyone who helped us!

The facility was very clean and well kept. They had healthy and nutritionally balanced offerings on the vending machines. And they had ample space to still offer privacy between patients. When my daughter needed help with an adverse reaction to medication, the PICU and pediatric staff went above and beyond to make sure she was taken care of. They are incredibly thorough with their procedures and care. They had charge nurses, floor nurses, cna’s, doctors and social workers (I was let go from work for missing time to care for my daughter) who really took the time to explain what was happening and offer support through such a stressful time. Iyesha, Irena, Sarah, Diane, Sen, Stephanie and Shaina- me and my daughter are forever grateful to you!!!

I am waiting for a liver transplant. While staying at CPMC I had toxin build up in my brain. I was treated and clear thanking. The transplant team are great. Dr Guy called my daughter and explained what will be the plan of treatment for sense my MELD score is too low to put me in line for a clean liver. I am okay with not receiving a liver if the toxins can be treated so I can have some sort of quality of life.

1/31/22 my husband, Calven Mock, had a complicated procedure in the cardiac cath lab so I’m reviewing per his vantage point and my own. Dr Elliott Groves- I did my homework and this is a devoted practitioner/educator/leader in his field. I am able to give doctor “5 stars” for competency, kindness, perseverance.( I give his parents 10/10 for bringing him up). Pre Op staff - from the pre registration phone call to RN’s caring pre/peri/post op - FIVE ⭐️! They understand the concern not being able to be present during my husbands procedure but kept me well informed and feeling confident he was being cared for. ASU - to RN Peru… thank you, thank you, thank you. You’ve maintained you kindness and are just a super nurse. Cathy - Nursing Sup - you get 5 ⭐️ and deserve a top notch bottle of wine 🍷 - first cabin nursing sup in the toughest of times. And last but not least… to ANN the hospital operator on duty tonight. Not everyone can do what you do and reach out to patients families with a loving, caring disposition. You set the stage for CPMC’s excellence. They’re fortunate to have you as am I on the other end of the phone line. Thank you all. Sincerely, THE CK Mock family and Brooks Mock

I have brought my child here to their emergency room occasionally for respiratory issues. They have a separate Pediatric emergency for children and the wait is very reasonable. The Dr's and nurses are great, knowledgeable and efficient. The in and out time for the 3 visits throughout our 2022 were overall 2 hours or less, considered really quick for Emergency room. It is not bad at all for Emergency/ urgent care service. I would recommend this is a great knowledgeable place for children's care.
