This is a great place to go if you're young and healthy and you can take a fall. It's a steep walk up and it's slippery, foggy, and cold. I didn't fall, but I felt like I was going to a few times. Don't bring babies and toddlers here unless you're going to carry them.

Nice trails with plenty of shaded areas thanks to tree cover. Not too crowded on a Saturday morning. Park itself isn’t too big so not a very long hike.

Sutro forest - a hidden gem! Just love it whenever is get a chance to visit this place! Middle of the city and so green (& foggy too). It’s difficult to find a street side parking as it starts right in middle of residential neighborhood. Trails are well maintained but very narrow at places and lot of poison oaks around. Weekends are busy & moderate traffic early in the morning. Wear in layers as it’s mostly cold and windy! Views from the top are worth the 3 mile hike! There are 2 or 3 road crossings if you plan to complete Sutro forest to twin peak trail.

beautiful otherworldly hiking trail with tons of trees (some that are going to get cut down by UCSF for their housing) so meanwhile, get out there and enjoy the amazing trees, beautiful hiking trails, and birdos!

Great space and trails that make you forget you are in a major city! Trails are interconnected and tend not to be very long. If you are coming from the West via the Sunset district, there is a long steep staircase up that is a workout in and of itself. Most of the time you will be shaded by tree cover. Watch out for bikes! Signs indicate that they should yield but due to their speed, I have always let them go by first

A wonderful hike right in the middle of the city! I could spend hours in these woods. Keep in mind that the Fairy Gates trail gets pretty steep on the way down to Belgrave Ave.

Because sun doesn't always shine through the trees on the trail, it can get very muddy. Up at the summit, it feels like rain due to tree condensation. Large raindrops fall onto the trail. Marked signs are visible and very helpful. Explored different trails and all are worth the hike! πŸ₯Ύ

Mount Sutro is a very peaceful and serene reserve that's not crowded at all. Most people go to twin peaks but don't know about this hidden gem right behind. A lot of beautiful trails with art throughout. The fog creates an air of mystery during dawn and dusk.

So far, my favorite hike in SF, such a peaceful place in the heart of the city! A good hiking shoes might help lol, I took a good fall since the ground was muddy and pretty steep on the way down

Beautiful, peaceful and surreal urban forest hike with gorgeous large trees nestled in valleys leading up to the peak of the hill it sits on. Gorgeous views peaking out on the city, almost like seeing two worlds collide.

Fairly easy climb up small paths. Nature reserve is incredible for the total peace and serenity and endless variety of birds calling and singing. It's like a tonic for stress. Gorgeous views right before the summit. Benches available for those who wish to linger and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of calm.

A forest of lush green tucked away inside the city. I went towards the end of the year (winter) and everything was pretty green. The trees provide shelter from the sun and the dense shrubs hide the city around you well. There are signs of artwork in the jungle..city elves? There are many trails and some connecting trails lead all the way to the top of twin peaks. If you start at Stanyan St, it's about an 8 km out and back hike to twin peaks.
