We loved it here! Great location! The only issue was that the refrigerator in the room did not get things cold and couldn't be adjusted. Otherwise, room was spacious and beautiful with great views and the perfect location. We recommend paying the daily transit fee and you can take the trolley or bus anywhere from right outside!

This hotel was amazing! Great Customer service from the front desk especially Armando! He was extremely helpful and very nice when it came to getting us our room at check in, ( he was able to upgrade our room and we luckily got a room with a beautiful city/ water view) He made our stay at the hotel very welcoming and special. The rooms are very well kept and cleaning service did a great job during our 3 day stay. We felt that the hotel was perfectly located, close to restaurants and Beautiful sites. We will definitely be staying here when weā€™re back in town.

Good as a base for San Francisco. Friendly staff. Very well equipped & modern gym. Free tea & coffee in the mornings was a great extra. Only one elevator working which caused queues. Expensive continental breakfast option (although can have toast, bagel or muffin for $3 each with free tea/coffee). Room was quite spacious & clean. Very light & quiet room facing courtyard.

We had a nice stay here, our room was spacious and clean. The location of the hotel was good, we felt safe and were close to lots of restaurants. Very hilly walk to get anywhere though. It cost $72/day to park our car there. The food at the restaurant inside the hotel was good!

I enjoyed our visit here. Nothing fancy, but a good hotel. The room was very large with gorgeous views, and the beds were very comfortable. There is a good bar and a decent buffet or a la carte breakfast. It did seem odd that a hotel of that size didn't supply any non animal milks for the coffee, but that's a minor issue. There is a quite good gym, and a restaurant. The air con is very noisy, but very effective. It was quite noisy in the night with the constant rattling of the team lines, but a generally comfortable stay.

From our first point of contact when I called the hotel to ask if they might help to make my husband's birthday special, the staff at Stanford Court delivered above and beyond. I wasn't sure what to expect after seeing the renovation photos. It looked so new and modern--not what I remembered having stayed there decades ago as a classic hotel. However, upon arriving, I admired the newly updated design and the staff treated us like VIP guests. When I had called a few days earlier to ask if they could help to make my husband's birthday special, I had the nicest conversation with the front desk concierge and he said he would make sure that we had a celebratory bottle of wine waiting and insured that we would have a nice view. Maybe being nice as a guest also helps because he surprised us with an upgrade to the Presidential Suite! My husband and kids were absolutely beyond excited once we arrived at our room. Balloons, a lovely swan sculpture and the celebratory wine was waiting for us. The view was sublime. The bathtub and view of the city was worth any expense. I cannot say enough to thank the staff who helped make this occasion so memorable. Ray, Roger (the valet attendant), and the front desk (especially, Averell, who delivered birthday cake and wine at the eleventh hour and made sure we had complimentary breakfast the next day, which was delicious!) truly went above and beyond to create an exceptional experience. Clearly, the staff at the Stanford Court are led by great management. The staff was engaging and warm, incredibly thoughtful and genuine. I hope they continue to listen and model themselves after their managers. We travel quite a bit and have stayed at five star hotels all over the world. I don't like to skimp on quality, cleanliness, or the experience when I travel. However, for my husband's birthday, we received all of my standards in spades from the Stanford Court and cannot wait to return again. Thank you Ray, Roger, Averell and all who helped to make our stay so wonderful!! Your warmth, professionalism and attention to detail should be a model for every hotel. Thank you, truly.

Unfortunately the only hotel in the world that doesnt offer water bottles even if you pay $470 per night for a king room and valet parking. And itā€™s a 4 star hotelā€¦ They basically offer a plastic refillable bottle per person which is not clean but straight out of a Chinese factory and tell you to use a fountain, they didnā€™t even tell us where the fountain is but pointed at it without putting the effort to look at us. The superior king room with view doesnā€™t offer a great view for its price and TV is so far away from the bed, pointless to use it. They could put some more effort next time they wanted to go for a 4 star $500/night hotel. Itā€™s a no no next time we are in SF.

This hotel is beautiful and in the perfect location. However, itā€™s the staff that make the place. They are so kind, helpful and seem to enjoy their work. They are fast and observant and give great tips on how to get around. Would definitely recommend this place 10/10

Hotel itself is gorgeous and well designed. We had a city view room on the 5th floor and the room was spacious. The beds are brick hard and the pillows are whisper soft. Both my husband and I woke up really sore. The noise from the street (homeless, cars, foot traffic) is incredibly loud all night long. The hotel provides earplugs, recommends a white noise app, and will rent JamBoxes - so it's clear the noise complaints are a well known issue. Location itself is nice because you're up in Nob Hill further removed from union square. In San Francisco, you don't want to be where all the tourism is. I wouldn't recommend this hotel based on the bad beds and terrible sleep.

Overall great Hotel with nice rooms. but prepare to pay for your room twice. we booked via "hotel tonight" in advance which was also clearly confirmed by the clerk at check in. after our pleasant stay we were shocked to see that the full hotel price was booked t to our credit card once again. after reaching out to hotel tonight it was pretty clear that the mistake was on the hotels side and that everything was already paid in advance. confronting the hotel via email resulted in no reply, when I called them they told me they couldn't do anything because "their systems are down". so to this day I'm stuck with a double payment. the hotel itself is very nice though, just be aware that you may have to pay double the price.

Awesome hotel. The interior spaces have really cool art and are well designed. Everything feels tidy and clean here. The rooms themselves were large and had very spacious bathrooms. Again, well designed, and the beds were comfy.

We were there for our anniversary last week and had a fantastic experience! The hotel is much bigger and nicer than the pics and is well located with other hotels around it. The staff were very helpful, a special shout out to Jonathan at the front desk who went out of his way to help us and made our anniversary special. We walked a lot and places like Chinatown, Union square, North beach etc are all within walking distance. The area is very safe- no issues at all, can't say that for all of downtown but the area around the hotel was fine. There is an element of noise coming in from the street on weekdays at night, but the hotel is aware of that and has made provisions accordingly. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Had a great experience during my stay of 5 days and though I spent little time in using much of hotel facilities as was out for meetings. Overall the stay was very comfortable with good hygienic facilities and helpful staff at the hotel. The hotel is close proximity to central CBD and also not very close at the same time.

I love this hotel. I stayed 2 days. It was a very nice, big, and clean room, amazing bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. The hotel has a bar and restaurant. There were amazing. Next time I will be back definitely.

Hotel and staff were excellent! Easily the nicest hotel we've ever stayed at. Perfectly located with easy access to public transportation. Most areas are easily walkable (aside from the hills, but that's part of the fun)! The only downside that we found was breakfast. They have a large spread buffet but it is very expensive and not recommended.

Great locationā€¦ nice reception, friendly staffā€¦Everything is great besides they need to upgrade their cleaning team. The first room they gave me smelled like cigarette smokeā€¦ nicely they gave me another roomā€¦ but the second room wasnā€™t clean well upon arrival. Toilet wasnā€™t cleaned property. (I didnā€™t say anything because we already asked for a change of room so I felt bad) It was nice that they provide a eco alternative to ā€œsingle-useā€ water bottle, they provide a refillable water bottle.

I am very familiar with the 50yr. history of The Stanford. Growing up in The Bay Area, my mom always shared how this hotel was the 'it' spot on 'the hill'. And while you can't go wrong with most hotels on Nob Hill, I've realized The Stanford really is special. Todd at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. He made me feel like a lifetime customer, that's hard to come by in this day. The same energy reverberated with all the staff I came across. The Stanford is situated at a very special intersection to San Francisco. You will find it on the South corner of California and Powell. This is where the two remaining cable car lines intersect. And while I originally asked for an inside room away from California, I love the room I was given. To hear the cable car bells clinging as the the cars crested the hill brought back more memories than anything else on this trip. The staff, the location, the ambiance, the food and drink... everything emanated the energy I love and miss about my City by The Bay. Thanks for making my trip home to the coolest city in California special!

Super cute hotel and staff is wonderful. Clean. Environmentally friendly (gave us branded water bottles on arrival). Filtered water was a nice touch. Good distance from fisherman wharf, American Conservatory Theater and other tourist attractions. Famous cable cars right outside hotel. Would absolutely stay again.

No complaints about the room, but waiting for the elevator takes annoyingly long and the staircase exit into the lobby is locked. (Also for some reason there are separate shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and a "face bar" but nothing that seems to be designed as soap for hands? I guess I'm supposed to use the "face bar" for that?)

For a large international-style hotel the Stanford didn't disappoint. The room was well decorated and we'll maintained with comfortable beds. Staff friendly and in a good location. This would not normally be my type of hotel choice (prefer something smaller and independent) but the Stanford was God and had a bit of "personality".

I want to leave this review for Manuel, bartender at the lobby bar. He was so cool and chatted with us. His service was excellent and he provided GREAT information regarding wines, drinks, mixed liquors, and more. We liked the bar, the experience and even considered staying there. Now because of Manuel and our experience, we will stay at this hotel next time (we visit SF often). Great time, thanx again!!

Great location, but a confusing ā€œfront deskā€ for check in, the receptionist didnā€™t greet us, in fact the desk has the receptionist facing the opposite way of guests entering - we walked right past her thinking she was using one of the desks for computer work! šŸ˜† We enjoyed our rooms, nice view, spacious for an older hotel in SF, bathroom has a nice big shower and comfortable bed/sheets. Dining downstairs at the bar for a late dinner. The Miso Salmon ($24.) was dry and too salty for my taste, my husband order the hamburger & fries ($18) he said it was a good bun, burger was okā€¦ we wished they had a more comfortable place to eat instead of the bar lounge, but we were hungry so we didnā€™t want to venture out (walking down a hill would be tough to walk back up after a meal!! Haha) Enjoy San Francisco, itā€™s a gorgeous city!

We enjoyed our stay, but itā€™s not without a few flaws. Checking in was very slow, their system for a ā€œfront deskā€ seem inefficient, and only had one worker for 10+ people in line. Our neighbors left a breakfast plate (fruits and such) outside of their door, and housekeeping didnā€™t clean it in the 3 days we were there. Bed was comfy. Bathroom nice.

This establishment fell far short of expectations. The rooms were noisy, lacking a basic amenity - a wardrobe. Service left much to be desired: wrinkled shirts, a poorly cleaned room, and a 35-minute wait for valet parking. Front desk assistance was sorely lacking. Given the steep price, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel. Seek alternatives for a superior experience.

Great hotel with art exhibits. Located right at a convenient corner of California and Powell streets where the cable cars intersect. Loved hearing their bells. We had a spectacular view of the city. All the staff were excellent. $18. for a mediocre personal size pizza in their restaurant was a bit much with all the excellent food SF has to offer just down the block though.

Great location. Right near the cable car. The bar at the hotel had good drinks and bar food great chilled out area. The view from our room wasn't anything special. The staff were friendly. I would recommend this hotel.
