🥠 My Wife and I were vacationing in San Francisco and were just so memorized as to how vast Chinatown really is compared to our Chinatown in Chicago. It was a very memorable experience for us to wander the streets!!! We were looking for places to eat and buy souvenirs and we didn't realize that the alleys are just as important in Chinatown as the main streets! We got lucky and stumbled upon this magical place and even got a chance to meet the owner!!! 🥠 Founded in 1962, the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory has been dedicated to producing handmade, high quality and customizable fortune cookies! At the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, they take pride in their handmade cookies for over a half a century. They only use the best ingredients, and their cookies are guaranteed to be fresh for up to 3 months! Here you can personalize your cookie with a special message and give to someone or for you to reopen later. We bought a 🥠 as big as a softball!!! So cool! If you're in San Francisco definitely check this place out!

Super cool experience! Little hole in the wall shop. They were making fortune cookies right there as we watched. I had no idea the process. Got to eat some fresh samples too! Nothing like stale ones from my normal Chinese delivery spot back home in VA! Definitely worth a quick stop if you're in the area. It's not a huge factory it's two ladies turning out fortune cookies like clockwork! Totally worth the time to stop in!

Walking in the first thing we were greeted with were fresh off the line fortune cookies. While munching on this yummy treats we got to witness fortune cookies being made, which is really cool. I’m sure it is a bit funny to the owners and the workers that people come in to watch them but it’s not some thing you see every day. In any case they were very friendly and I was happy to take a bag of cookies with me. I also appreciated the little extras.

Do not rob yourself of this amazing opportunity. The ambiance itself was worth the trip. On top of that, they were super kind to us. They gave us a free sample of straight from the oven warm cookie! Let me tell you, I've always had a LOVE affair with fortune cookies, but that sample was a game changer! I am OBSESSED! We made a purchase, and they threw in the little tote bag with their logo, a calendar, and more samples. This is an iconic American business. It deserves our support.

Founded in 1962, this small alleyway store and "factory" continues to serve and produce great tasting fortune cookies. When one enters, one immediately feels the warmth and heat of the operations and a staff member kindly offers a flattened fortune cookie for one to try. The shelves are lined with different flavored fortune cookies and even adult X-rated ones. It's also possible to personalize fortune cookies or buy one of the massive, large ones. It's also fun to watch one of the workers expertly create fortune cookies right before your eyes!

Delicious fortune cookies! They give you free warm cookie samples (flat ones) while you wait in line. The cookies are so crispy and they taste great. There was a line when we went but it was only about ten minutes, just be aware of it if you are short on time. Also, it would be nice if they could ask if you want a bag or not because they automatically put your goods in it without asking (it’s charged to your total price).

Cool, little place off the beaten path. They give free samples when you walk in. We bought the x rated ones and some flavored ones with chocolate. Those were delicious. Sometimes, the fortunes would be in another language other than English and the x rated ones are more of dad jokes kind of. Neat place to stop when in lovely China town.

Went to Golden gate fortune cookie factory to explore the making of a fortune cookie and it was such a nice and a fresh experience. There were so many kinds of designed cookies. Right when we entered, we were given a complimentary cookie to taste.

Awesome little place. An employee is taking the fortune paper and putting them in the cookies right there. She will hand you flat cookies for free, she had a tip jar, so I tipped. Bags of fortune cookies fill the walls in different flavors. We got the chocolate and regular mixed bag with dirty fortunes inside. Can't wait to open those.

Look - this place is the literal definition of a tourist trap. It would not exist without tourists - but it is totally worth visiting and experiencing. They make fortune cookies while you watch here - and they make a lot of them. They have normal ones, flavored ones, adult ones and the coolest ones of all - ones where you write your own fortune. It’s chaotic inside, you don’t really know what your buying or the prices and they are helping like 5 people at once - but it’s part of the experience. The cookies are tourist prices but still reasonable - you will also likely get some extra in the bag (if you buy a lot) and some samples. Worth checking out when you visit or when you want to play tourist!

If you are visiting SFC Chinatown, I will recommend you to go to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. You will be able to see how Fortune Cookies are made. This is awesome. Don’t forget to take some home. Oh by the way, they give Fortune Cookie flats to sample for free.

After dozens of trips to San Francisco, this was the first time I visited the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. Truth be told, I did try on one previous trip, but we were half an hour late. I'm glad I was finally able to visit. Great fortune cookies. Lots of choices of flavors and box sizes. The line moves quickly. It isn't very big inside, so only a few fit inside while purchasing. The warm, fresh cookies they include with your purchase are amazing.

We went to Chinatown the other day passing through the street and noticed the long line of people standing in front of this store. I asked around about the store and many people said this was a famous fortune cookie shop! The store handed out some sample cookies which were yummy.

If you are in Chinatown, and have 10-15 minutes to spend, go to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. You get to watch Fortune Cookies getting made and can even make your own fortune cookies of you decide to at a price. They also have Fortune Cookie flats that they give as flats to sample for free which is great, and they have a full assortment of fortune cookies to take home if you desire.

Sooooo GREAT! I can never go to San Francisco without going to the Fortune Cookie factory. I've been going there my entire life and will never miss it if I'm there. These don't taste like restaurant fortune cookies - they are SO MUCH BETTER! Fresh, light & airy and so addicting. I love them!

A tiny little shop down a cutely decorated alley in Chinatown making/selling very hot and fresh fortune cookies. They aren’t the cheapest, but they are very good, thin and crispy cookies. The ladies make them on site. We bought a small box with mixed flavours of plain and chocolate (8.00) and they ladled a big scoop of flat cookies into our bag after purchase.

We dropped by on a Sunday, so it was busy. It's exactly the "hole in a wall" kind of place that you want to discover when touring a city, but the days where such gems are only known by the locals and a few fortunate tourists, are gone. Still, the shop hasn't lost its authenticity, despite having to queue to get in, see it and leave as though you only get 1 minute to see an important artifact in a museum. We got a bag of coins, the size of a Canadian $1 loonie, and it was well worth it... one doesn't always need to know their fortune. A bunch of tasty larger size flat cookies were toss is the collectible bag before it was handed to us.

We were expecting a tour, a museum, its was pretty much a small store with two fortune cookie machines. We saw how they folded and how they put the fortunes in. We bought a few bags for ourselves and for gifts. We were given so many free samples. They were nice and warm right when they came out to the machines. Fun place for a quick visit.

Awesome spot in Chinatown! You get to see how they make fortune cookies, and they even give you free samples hot from the oven. A must-visit! We waited about 10 minutes outside, but the line moves fast, so you won't even notice when it's your turn to go in! 😄

Cute cookie shop and you can even make your own fortunes and have them put into cookies. They give free samples when you walk in also. I never knew before that fortune cookies are made by folding circles of the mix over a bar!

This is a SF Chinatown institution! It has been here since 1962. I’ve been coming here to get souvenir fortune cookies for our friends back no LA for as long as I remembered. The owner is very active in the community and he is like a backbone of China Town. There are not too many places in the US nowadays that are still making fortune cookies. Probably you can order them online. But this place still uses manual making process to produce their cookies. There are many varieties of the cookies you can choose from including chocolate and matcha flavors. I also saw a huge fortune cookie on display. I am sure they can make one for you if you ask. They give out free samples for their cookies if you visit their shop. they only take cash and you have to pick up the orders in person even if you order them online. But it’s fun to visit this place while in China town. You will probably learn a lot of SF Chinatown history.

Very cool place to visit and pick up all the different flavors of fortune cookies. It was very awesome to be right there watching them being made by hand. Thank you guys for the experience and I can't wait for the things I ordered to be shipped home !

If you’re in San Fran and walk through Chinatown- you must go down the small alley to see this tiny dive! We enjoyed watching the ladies make fresh fortune cookies! The aroma in the place was incredible! We bought 2 packs of 12 chocolate dipped fortune cookies ($16a pack) - a bit pricey- but man, do they melt in your mouth! Exceptionally crispy and the chocolate flavor was fantastic! I don’t regret spending that much! With our purchase we received 6 fresh fortune cookie disks (flat ones that they didn’t fold) and the taste of the cookie itself is beautifully buttery and crisp! 100% recommend

Golden Gate Fortune Cookies left us with mixed feelings about our visit. Despite the long line that moved fairly quickly, our overall experience fell short of expectations. The cramped shop and hurried service gave us a sense of being rushed through. While the fortune cookies were undeniably tasty, their steep price didn't quite match the value, especially considering their short shelf life. On the positive side, the variety of flavors was delicious, and the opportunity to write personal messages inside the cookies added a unique touch. They also give you free flat samples that were tasty. If you're curious about the process of fortune cookie production, it's worth a visit, but be prepared for some minor trade-offs.

They are located in an alley so might be easy to miss but if you look down an alley and see a line then you're at the right place. The line moves fairly quickly and it's very small inside. While you're in line, one of the women passes out a free sample of the unfolded fortune cookie fresh and warm right out of the oven. Once inside you'll have to decide quick which cookies you want to buy. Cookies taste very fresh there since they're are made there compared to the ones you get at a Chinese take out restaurant.

Awesome factory visit to remember. In the heart of Chinatown San Francisco... Busy place, but it's well worth waiting in line to watch the factory in action & buy some yummy treats. The fortune cookies were very enjoyable. It's down a laneway, not on a main road - so search for it till you find it... A rewarding must visit location for anyone in or visiting San Francisco.

Every single time I'm in San Francisco, I have to stop by this place. Everyone here is so welcoming and kind. It's fascinating watching them make the fortune cookies by hand, especially now more than ever since things have become so automated. This little factory shop transports me to simpler times. Sometimes we need that. Whenever you purchase fortune cookies, they scoop a bunch of free fortune cookies and drop them in your bag. The bags come in different colors and are absolutely adorable. They have their origin story and history printed on the side of their bags, which is beautiful to read. This is just a wonderful place that always brings me happiness.

This was a great find on our last trip to San Francisco! It’s a small shop in an alleyway about a block off of Washington Street in Chinatown. You can watch fortune cookies being made by hand. They are fresh and they are delicious! There may be a line, but it goes fast and it’s worth the wait! You can buy traditional fortune cookies, chocolate dipped fortune cookies or a giant fortune cookie in a to go container that makes a great gift!

From a legitimate hidden location down an alley in San Francisco Chinatown is this legendary facility. The owner is absolutely heartwarming and about people coming together. Had a chance to chat with the owner outside of fortune cookies and seeing that he is about people coming together only makes the supporting of this historic landmark even more rewarding.

This was such a cool stop. It is down a small alley that was a little hard to find, but once we got in we were so impressed. The staff was so kind and even gave me an extra bag with our purchase. The warm cookies are amazing and we grabbed a few chocolate covered to go as well! Definitely make a pit stop after grabbing some dim sum!

Super cool experience to see how fortune cookies are made! They tasted way better than regular fortune cookies.
