Beautiful coastline and picturesque lighthouse on the point. The water is rough with lots of rocks, so no swimming! The walk to the lighthouse is over 200 stairs, so take that into consideration! There are a few rest stops along the way though. Def recommend checking this area out if you love the coast!

Magnificent day excursion…easy 1 1/2 hour drive from SF area. Gorgeous cliff beaches with elephant and harbor seal colonies. Recommend Drake’s Beach for wildlife, Lighthouse for incredible views and possible whale watching, and Castle Rock hike for an hours walking. There is a nice town with food and cafes at park entrance too. It was very windy on our adventure, so be warm.

Can I give this place 10 stars?! This is where I first touched the Pacific Ocean in 2004 and this year I was lucky enough to be able to take my beautiful Husky there to the same place so he could touch the Pacific. The coastline seems to go on forever, the lighthouse is a very special treat. I highly recommend going there! Seeing Elk was amazing! It really feel like the end of the Earth yet your so close San Francisco and other great places!

Such a beautiful area! The drive to the beach and lighthouse from the city is just incredible, going through redwoods and ranches. There are a few small towns to stop at for food but once you hit the coast it's wonderfully isolated. Great facilities in public bathrooms and water fountains. Lots of wildlife to see such as birds, deer and cattle from the ranches along the way! The walk up to the lighthouse is a bit steep and long and then the steps down to is sooo long and closes at 4:30 everyday but the views down to the beach and surrounding areas is amazing.

I had a great time walking to the lighthouse, going to both the sea lion and elephant seal overlooks, and doing the hike to chimney rock. There were some wildflowers in bloom when I went in early/mid April. It was very windy on the west shore of the park on the Pacific compared to being on Drake's Bay. Dress warmly and bring layers. Try to go on a day that is less windy so the stairs to the lighthouse are open. Keep in mind that the lighthouse stairs are only open when the visitor center is open. Also, the cypress tree tunnel technically closes at 5pm, but you can still get around the gate past 5 for a quick view/walk.

Fantastic hike - not too short not too long. Parking can be challenging here - since it’s a one way path down here and people just park next to the road. The view is so nice with some wild life to be viewed. Can be chilly here - bring some layers

Mid-week backpack out to Coast Camp on a cloudy, cool, breezy day. All sites were occupied in the backpacker's camp. There are potable water spigots and restrooms in the camp area, as well as a picnic table at each site. The short path to the beach makes a sunset walk in the sand very appealing. Castle Rock, standing sentry over the campground, provides an interesting, short, exploratory hike. I took my dinner up onto the Castle, and felt like a queen with the gorgeous views of the sea and the wind in my hair as I dined. I backpack all around the country, have spent weeks and months at a time on trail, yet I never tire of the unique, spirit-renewing camping opportunities within Point Reyes.

What a beautiful place to hike! Many seals and sea lions were resting on the beaches and swimming in the ocean. And many cows, was told by some locals not to get too close to the cows as they could charge you. Public toilets are available. It could get really windy so watch out for your hats:)

One of the best seashore I’ve ever seen. You will see grandeur scenes and visions of sea, mountains, trees, animals, and feel how beautiful and mysterious nature is. It will always be forgettable to hike here and see the sunset here. I came here during the pandemic November 2021, and was not lucky enough to see the lighthouse here. I will come back again!

No joke, driving through this area feels like stepping into a movie scene. Seriously, this place has this enchanting, natural vibe that's just so breathtaking. And if luck's on your side, you might even catch glimpses of sea lions and gray whales from a distance. The trails are incredibly well-maintained, and you could explore for hours without growing weary of the stunning beauty. It's the perfect spot for picnics, quality family time, hiking adventures, a relaxed beach day, or simply enjoying a scenic drive.

It is definitely a beautiful place, but be aware that this area is huge and it means a lot of driving. Point Reyes Station is an excellent place to start: a wonderful book store, two amazing markets, etc. A lighthouse is great! Drake beach is nice. Have a wonderful adventure!

One of my favorite places to hike in the Bay Area. There’s so many places to hike here with different topography and scenery. Today I hiked from Bear Valley trailhead to Alamere Falls. It was a beautiful clear day and every was green from all of the recent storms. The Forest was so lush. The streams and Alamere waterfalls were flowing. It was a great 16+ miles hike.

We hiked from the parking lot down to the Pacific Ocean & back, about 3.5 miles. The trail wasn't overly steep, & the scenery was beautiful. We saw some hummingbirds, hawks, a buzzard (?), & some small wildlife. There were a few people on the trail, & everyone was friendly. We didn't hike to the lighthouse. Next time!

We had no idea of the history and beautiful surroundings here, even though we had heard. Even the rundown, abandoned boat has a charm (AND A HISTORY!!) -- great to see even in a foggy day. See elephant seals, a lighthouse with 313 stairs to get to it, many migratory birds, beautiful wildflowers, rolling hills covered in cows, abandoned ships, and learned about all the downed ships in the area! Many spots have parking and bathrooms, but we didn't see any places to buy snacks or food outside of the businesses in the Inverness area. We did see spots to refill water bottles in the park, though. When near the coast, it can get very windy -- BRING LAYERS!!

I highly recommend coming here! In early March they start to open up guided tours to walk on to the beach and see the elephant seals from close up. The guides were excellent and shared information about the deal migration patterns, their diet, how deep they dive, and other really interesting information. It's also a really fun drive getting to this point and the gift shop has a wide selection of items.

Beautiful park. We couldn’t see the lighthouse (due to the crazy fog), but the place has this strange beauty even in adverse weather. We also hiked the chimney rock trail, which has a very different vibe and weather conditions. Well worth a visit.

Visited this place on the hottest day and it treated us well with its fog and cool winds. Make sure to step into the visitor’s center. They have tons of information about marine animals, a and the location itself. They had stats about the windiest days. We got to touch the whale baleen, krill, and more. The stairs go down 31 floors to the lighthouse which offers beautiful views with or without the fog… climbing back could be slightly challenging as it’s a single lane stairs. Parking available but runs out quick during the weekend. Might grab a jacket as it gets cold.

Beautiful place to go hiking. It's a very long hike and some rocky terrain so wear some hiking shoes or boots. Bring plenty of water 2 won't cut it lol unless it's the big water bottles. Come very early like I said it's a long hike if your not running or walking slow enjoying the views. Also bring some snacks to keep your body fueled 💪🏼. 10 out 10 would recommend.

This place has amazing views for hiking and just driving around. I went to Abbot’s Lagoon, where there are many birds, including pelicans, herons, and snowy plovers. Another place to go would be the Point Reyes Lighthouse, where you can look down at the ocean below. Even though I didn’t visit the Elk Reserve, I still saw lots of elk driving around.

Wonderful stretch of sand and has a nice shower and bathroom. Warning for wind though, we went and it felt like 29 mph which, despite the sun, makes the visit colder than expected.

Amazing As magnificent as any of California's features A must visit for tourists. The photos are Hearts on fire beach. After we drove to the lighthouse and then the visitors center to learn about the area in a free museum.

Beautiful area. Loved the vibe, air. There is around 300 stairs to go the lighthouse, coming up can be tricky for some people.

Amazing place! Try the muddy hollow trail which goes through the forest to the seashore. No bathrooms on the way but plenty at the end!

The entire place is scenery and more breathtaking scenery. Saw seals along a hike. Lighthouse was so fun.

  • 4/5 Jordan L. 8 months ago on Google
Get there early since the parking lot is small. Be prepared to go "off-road ING" a little bit as the unnamed road there is only wide enough for one vehicle at a time and there are no turnouts or shoulders. The hike is incredible and beautiful; most of which is flat. Only a few steep inclines. Definitely worth the day spent out there.

Absolutely stunning scenery on a good weather day. A long and winding drive that took about 2 hours one way from the Bay Area. Lighthouse was closed on New Year’s Day but that didn’t stop people lining up in bumper to bumper traffic to view the scene from there. Chimney Rock was blissfully uncrowded. A easy to moderate 1 mile walk out to the end provided a memorable sunset and lots of great photos.

  • 5/5 G M. 4 months ago on Google
We had a great experience exploring the tidal pools during low tide and saw some really cool purple sea stars, which was a different experience compared to the elephant seals we usually see at Drake's Beach. The weather in November was absolutely perfect, but it can be unaccommodating at certain times of the year due to dense sea fog or heavy winds

We spent our Saturday @ Drakes' Beach on a cool August afternoon. Although more challenging (roadwork, potholes & windy roads) to reach, it was worth the 95 minute drive ? from bay area, Pinole. The sand was soft & kids enjoyed playing in the water/digging holes :) ? we even saw a massive sea lion! (just have to socially distance 35 ft. because they are known to bite). Mountain sea walls have interesting flaky rocks! Recommend this venue *

For dog owners, some beaches allow dogs some don't. Pay attention to the signs. Also, the Lighthouse is closed at the moment and there is constructions on the road. Worth it though if you're early enough to enjoy it.

The most diverse wildlife in the entire Bay Area. I've seen Elk, snakes, lizards, deer, all kinds of birds including osprey, leopard sharks, bat rays, elephant seals, sea lions, harbor seals, and more.

Limantour beach is a large, long, frequently quite empty beach, and is one of the few (if not the only?) at Point Reyes National Seashore where half of it (the eastern half) is ok for dogs. Great any time of year, but pretty desolate off-season, which has its own attraction too. Lovely place.

  • 5/5 Julie T. 3 years ago on Google

Even though it was a foggy day... I really enjoyed driving through the countryside with all of the dairy farms. Got to see deer roam free and many beautiful, healthy cattle. The walk up(and down) was also beautiful!! Really glad a co-worker recommended this place!!
