Mary Ellen Pleasant Memorial Park

Tourist attraction Memorial park

😠 Her legacy deserves a bigger place than this. Better to go to the mansion she lived in on 198 Laidley st in SF. The memorial park is more like a garden around this place is called 'The Healing Arts' so you wouldn't know MEP park was there. Just sad. I thought SF was into renaming things...give her...

Stroll in to San Francisco's smallest park and contemplatively absorb a piece of local history. The life of Mary Ellen Pleasant, the famous Civil Rights worker is remembered and marked by a commemorative plaque and the now iconic six huge Eucalyptus trees planted in 1904, the year of her death. Linger amongst decoratively manicured indigenous plants and perhaps be distracted by an agitated crow which occasionally appears, reputetly signifying her "haunting presence" !

The park is actually a parklet. It is the huge trees and the sidewalk areas surrounding them. The massive Eucalyptus trees are amazing. It's time for the city and others to redo the sidewalks. The tree roots have cracked the concrete and have lifted the slabs. This much misunderstood iconic abolitionist deserves better. Don't call her Mammy.

A lovely little square to stand on. It's the Queen Anne Hotel's designated smoking area, located next to The Healing Arts, on the corner of Bush and Octavia. It must be the world's smallest park! 😆

Very low key, but impressive trees, and free parking if you find it.

It is so small you might miss it. Very interesting history here.

A hidden gem with a fascinating back story I had no idea about until I stumbled upon it while visiting a nearby restaurant.
