If you do not have a reservation for Muir Woods, then this is your best shot. Park the car on the main road next to the state park sign and then take a hike down to the visitor center if Muir Woods and come back. You can do a 4 miler or a 6 miler with a steep descend and then a climb up the mountain. Shaded trail with lots of views. You get to see some huge Redwoods on the way.

My favorite North Cal state park so far. Many different hiking trails with gorgeous views. A spontaneous and mysterious adventure every time. It started raining while I was hiking halfway through the rainforest, and the fog suddenly appeared causing a magical scenery.

Beautiful state park. You can drive most of the way to the top, parking is $6 unless you have an eligible pass. Limited parking but it does turn over fairly quickly. Lots of trail options right from the car park, including one to the top of the peak viewpoint. (It gets pretty rocky!) Beautiful views!

My room mates and I went on our very first hike together!!! Two of them are pretty skilled at their hiking ability, the rest of us…well, we went for fun;) but it was such an amazing time. So wholesome, the weather and atmosphere was amazing. The park is so well kept, with good maps and directions. We were so happy to cross this one off our list, and after doing this hike we decided that we want to go on more together:)

πŸŒ²πŸ¦‹ Visiting Muir Woods is like stepping into a living fairy tale. The grandeur of the redwoods, some of the tallest trees on Earth, is genuinely awe-inspiring. Walking amongst these giants, some of which have stood for centuries, provides a perspective that is humbling and magical. One piece of advice: make sure you reserve your spot beforehand. They strictly manage the number of visitors to preserve this natural wonder, and you will be turned away without a reservation. It's a small effort that's well worth the unforgettable experience you will have. While the redwoods take center stage, don't forget to appreciate the supporting cast of local wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for adorable banana slugs, listen for the melodies of the birds, and watch for butterflies delicately fluttering amongst the foliage. The tranquility and the ethereal beauty of Muir Woods is a gentle reminder of nature's resilience and grandeur. Whether you're a nature lover or just looking for a unique experience, Muir Woods is a must-visit destination. Trust me, you'll leave with your heart full and your soul refreshed.

Amazing place to stop and explore. Met a cool rock climbing couple that said there is some good climbing if you hike down to it’s! They took this picture, so thank you again if you see this!

One of the most spectacular views in the bay area. It may be a bit windy though so dress warm. And by a bit windy I mean like 40 mph winds.

It is great to be back on park life. This is a great park. Pathways are well maintained, and the Rangers were enthusiastically amazing. The banana slugs are hard to find. Parking needs to be planed, so reserve with time. There is low WiFi reception, but you could reserve the parking online almost at the last minute if there is availability. It is worth the visit.

It's so beautiful, definitely worth the trip if you're far away. Some trees were downed blocking paths, but nothing impossible to pass. Will be coming back and exploring for the next several years to come.

Beautiful place and lots of things to do here. Came here for a day trip and was happy to find that there were several view points here along with Stinson beach near by. There are multiple hikes one can go on and some of them looked gorgeous but not kid friendly. They were steep. Best way to get here is to drive to the visitor center and you will see the multiple trails on the way and have your pick. There is a gravity train buggy here at the visitor center and it’s fun for kids to explore that. The parking fee is $8. Plenty of space available but there are always too many people so may need to look around for parking if you come during busy time. Sights were beautiful and a good visit !

We did the Steep Ravine + Dipsea trail and it was amazing. We started at the ancient redwoods and the trail goes down to the Pacific Ocean which was amazing! The weather was perfect and we looped back to the pantoll campground. We also caught the sunset at the Mt Tamalpais peak sunset point and it was the most gorgeous sunset of my life!! A great state park to visit over the weekend, will definitely be back to hike other trails

Mount Tamalpais State Park offers a multitude of fun outdoor activities. There is an extensive network of trails all around the mountain. You can go hiking, mountain bike riding and horseback riding. Look for posted signs to see which activities are allowed on each specific trail. To avoid crowds, try to go during the middle of the week. You can overnight camp at Pantoll Campground as well as Bootjack Campground. A really excellent loop hike starts at Stinson Beach. Take the Dipsea trail to the Steep Ravine trail to Pantoll Campground. Take the Matt Davis trail all the way back down to Stinson. When hiking bring food, snacks and a good amount of water. Check the weather forecast before you go, you don't want to be camping during a huge rainstorm. Highly recommend Mount Tamalpais State Park

Awesome drive to get there. They do car commercials on that road. There is a farm they use for teaching and retreats that has great trails. Watch out for mule deer.

Views are magnificent and beyond our expectations. It took us 2 and half hours to do a dipsea and steep ravine loop. Mindful for muddy and slippery trials and breezes with fogs from the oceans. It may rain in between. We will definitely come back to explore other fun trails.

Beautiful views on a clear day. Worth the drive up. Great hikes up from lower parking lots if you want more if a challenge. We parked at Trojan Point and had a fun 4 mile hike up and 4 mile hike back. Great views all along.

Each equinox a group of intrepid hiking friends and I circumambulate Mount Tamalpais. The woods, views, ferns, water, fog and spring flowers are marvelous. The trails are generally well maintained, though this year we encountered a few more downed trees that we had to go over or under than in times past. If you love hiking, you will love the challenges and beauty of Mt Tam.

Trails for every experience level. Amazing views from all levels, and various ecosystems to explore. No dogs allowed, though you can bring Fido to the nearby Mt. Tamalpais Watershed area trails. Plenty of restaurants close by to catch lunch or dinner after (or before!) a long hike. If you don't want to huff and puff your way to the top, there are scenic drive options to get some stellar views. The trails are mostly well marked and groomed, and you'll get plenty of ocean, rural, and city views. An excellent place to visit.

Beautiful park to visit if you don't mind a bit of a windy drive. Check the weather since if it'd be a bit of waste to drive up there and not get much of a view

Fun park during winter while waterfalls and creaks are running. The 1000+ feet climb is quite intense and the bed of the trail is nothing except bathroom and picnic tables. So remember to enjoy your walk up. Afternoon gets very crowded on the trail and along vista points.

Stunning hikes through dense forests, along dry hillsides and over brushy trails. They are small creeks (this was summer, so they are probably bigger during the wetter months). There are literally so.many. stairs. Steep stairs. Just be warned. While this is a gorgeous park there are a lot of other people as well so if you are looking for solitude, you won't find it here. All in all though it was a gorgeous forest and the weather made for a wonderful day. Parking can be a bit a busy so you may have to park where you can find a spot and walk to the trail entrance. Definitely recommend for the more experienced hiker!
