Stayed here for 3 nights, I truly recommend that if your looking for a 5 star stay, with food and normal 5-star amenities, that you should NOT book this hotel. Although this hotel has great history, and the lobby has a unique old design, there are several things that make this hotel more of a 3 star hotel. First of all, there is no real breakfast, only breakfast I would get at holiday inn, old dry pastries, and tea. 5-star hotel, without proper breakfast... interesting. If your looking to have a good workout, think of another place to go, because the gym at the hotel is a tiny room with a few old machines, and surprisingly nothing else, it is a bit embarrassing to be honest. Rooms are a bit dated, feel like there is something missing, a bit empty, although the bed is comfortable. Another thing, if you are a family, be ready to pay an additional $150 per guest! Per Night! A bit ridiculous. Again, first impression of hotel is nice, old victorian house with history, lobby is unique, but service is quite bizarre and for all the reasons above, I would never come here again, and would never recommend anyone coming here. Spend $500 a night at the Ritz Carlton instead, where you have real 5-star amenities.

Shocked by all of the good reviews. This hotel as a 3-star hotel would get a mediocre review from me. At this price point, and marketing itself as a 5-star hotel, this is appalling. The good: -Beds are incredibly comfortable. A very good night’s sleep. -Blackout curtains mean very little light in the rooms in the morning. -Rooms are very spacious. The bad: -I found a bag of weed under the chair cushion in my room, which makes me question the quality of room cleaning between guests. -Hotel says they will arrange laundry for you upon request in the guest book. Upon inquiry, this turned out to be a single washing machine in the back room. They charge $45 per load, straight-faced. -NO BREAKFAST OR RESTAURANT. The hotel does tell you about this in advance to be fair. This alone would be forgivable, but combined with the other issues it’s ridiculous for the price point. Their solution is a random cabinet of a few assorted pastries purchased from Safeway. -Furnishings are an odd hodgepodge of antique/tasteful and tacky/modern. It feels like walking into a hoarder’s idea of an antique mansion, or perhaps the movie set of an antique mansion, rather than an actual old property that has been well-taken care of. -Understaffed. Throughout the duration of our stay there was only one staff member on the premise at any given time. Staff are incredibly friendly, but not trained in hospitality at all; this is by no means their fault. This is the type of thing that I would not care about in a hotel charging less or marketing itself differently, but having a random half-asleep dude unceremoniously grab your credit card and disappear with it as “reception” is again not acceptable at a five-star property. I get the impression that this is a hotel that was once good; after being hit hard by the closure of its restaurant during COVID, I think it’s slowly going out of business (restaurant was never reopened) and is a barebones, dilapidated version of itself that continues to disingenuously charge its pre-COVID prices. Check out the Grove, the White Swan, or Petite Auberge instead.

I wish I had read the one-star Google Map review from a week ago. Picked this seemingly charming hotel on Expedia for a one-night getaway with my wife. When we arrived, the door was locked shut and the door didn't get answered until 5 minutes after I called a phone number and rang the bell. My wife and I were incredulous this was supposed to be a 5-star hotel? Once we were in, we were greeted by a stale smell typically associated with lack of ventilation. The entire building was empty, with just the two of us and a single staff. The parking lot had only one other car. The bar and restaurant looked unstaffed. I have been to quite a few historical hotels but this is just dingy and creepy. The room was ok but still smelt. The TV and the cable box looked like out of a motel along the highway. 5-star? This must be a joke! I called Expedia to cancel my stay. Unfortunately the staff at the hotel refused. Doesn't matter. We just left and booked a more well-known hotel. Yeah, you could say that we are not staying in this place even if it was free. This is blatant false advertising. Don't make the same mistake we did.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough! I recently got married at San Francisco city hall and the mansion on sutter was the most perfect hotel for our stay! The beautiful staircase was the perfect backdrop for our first look, and the staff was so attentive! They always made sure we had everything we needed. The Vice Roi suite was perfect for a bridal suite! Great lighting for photos, an amazing bathtub to relax in, and the cutest blue walls to add a “something blue” to my getting ready photos! It was very spacious inside my suite which was perfect for all the girls getting ready with me the morning of! From the turn down service to the fact that we never had to open the front door the staff was absolutely wonderful! We felt so safe while staying here and we’ll definitely book here again next time we’re in SF!

Absolutely gorgeous and unique place to stay in San Francisco. We were headed for an afternoon wedding, and the kind, attentive staff easily accommodated our early arrival. The room was lovely and immaculately clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, check-in and check-out were a breeze. Highly recommend!

I had one of my best nights in San Francisco because I chose to stay at Mansion on Sutter! I usually don’t have any expectation because I don’t like to be disappointed, but the experience at this property was 10/10! First I was blown away by the ambiance and the look of the lobby! It’s so gorgeous! Definitely feels like very luxury historical place and I felt so homey and cosy right away. We were welcomed by the concierge Amit and he was the sweetest! He accommodated us with early check in , gave us an amazing room on the second floor, show us around. I regret that I took only one night there because I didn’t want to leave the next day. The best part of my stay was the bed! It was the most comfortable bed and pillows I’ve ever experienced and I travel a lot all around the world. I even had to ask Amit to send me the bed info hahah! Now I definitely want those to have at my home! When I came back from dinner I found the slippers and candies next to my bed and I was offered coffee and complimentary breakfast in the morning. I would like to mention Amit again, he definitely played a huge part in my amazing experience at the Mansion. Highly recommend for your stay in SF!

I had a wonderful stay at the Mansion on Sutter. The staff (Amit and Amanda) were a joy and incredibly helpful. They left no detail overlooked in supporting a 30-person event we had there over 2 days. Thank you Amir and Amanda for making our stay so pleasant! I appreciate you!

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel but the Amanda who works at the front desk was not only attentive but made our last minute change to this hotel as easy as possible. We can’t thank for being the highlight of our stay stay!

Omar and staff were excellent- warm and welcoming and incredibly helpful with airport transportation and anticipating our needs. The room was clean and comfortable with a lovely welcome plate of fruit, snacks, fresh water, and a nice turndown service with slippers at the bedside and chocolates on the pillows. Location was great, you can reserve a parking spot for $54 which is more than reasonable in SF. Bathroom was modern and had really nice amenities. Would definitely stay here again.

Best hotel I have ever stayed in. From the second my fiancé and I got to the hotel the staff was incredible. We stayed for 2 nights while getting married and they helped us with everything possible throughout the whole process. I could not recommend Mansion of Sutter enough. The rooms are also luxury, you get a homey feel while still living lavishly at this hotel. Thank you again to everyone on the staff.

10 Stars for The Mansion on Sutter. I was extremely grateful to discover this beautiful, well located, super clean and lovely boutique hotel on a recent trip to San Francisco. The ambience was truly calming and elegant, the bed and bedding were of excellent quality and super comfortable, and the carefully presented breakfast was just right. But most importantly, the staff was exceptional. During an 8 night stay, I was fortunate to meet most of the staff, and Amit, Amanda, Yash, and Nina all went out of their way to accommodate the needs of the guests in a genuine and very thoughtful way. I have rarely met a hotel staff that cared as much about the comfort of their guests and treated their guests with as much respect than this group of fine people. They are a wonderful team and all are invested in their work at the Hotel Mansion on Sutter. Thank you to each of you.

We loved our stay at the Mansion on Sutter. Gorgeous rooms and the service is top notch. Secure parking was a huge relief-we coukd load and unload at ease. We walked to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square and loved it. Best bed I've ever slept on! I'd love to know what kind it was- I don't think I've ever been so comfortable away from home.

So this place is absolutely stunning, unique and definitely boutique. Staff were ridiculously attentive in a good way. Even upgraded us simply to give us early access to our room, which was tremendously appreciated after a LONG east to west flight. Fair Warning: It's VERY close to the saddest of San Francisco ... homeless, ALOT of trash in streets 1 block over, and people doing their business in the streets. Fair Warning 2: The fitness center is crazy small, weights range from 5 lbs to 15 lbs and a couple of machines. I managed with push-ups, mountain climbers, and other ab and cardio movements but equipment is limited. With this said, I do not regret staying here. I would again. It was a true experience. Grateful for their service and comfort provided. 🙏

My now husband and I chose to stay here for our wedding weekend, and we couldn't have chosen a more romantic and charming place. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We arrived (without warning) with several crates worth of wedding-related supplies, and their staff helped us bring it all up to our room. The rooms themselves are gorgeous and unique. Our room came with an amazing soaking tub that we enjoyed the morning of our wedding and best smelling toiletries we've ever found at a hotel. Despite the level of excitement we felt for our wedding we slept beautifully. The handsome writing desk was the perfect spot for us to write our thank you notes to our wedding vendors. Not sure why some reviews claim there isn't a breakfast? While the breakfast doesn't include hot items, the selection was great and of very high quality - fresh fruit, sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and we left happy and full. We look forward to returning for our anniversary someday!
