I woke up one morning with pain from swallowing and thought it was possible that I had strep. So I decided to go to UCSF Acute Care. I was greeted by a nice young woman at the front desk (the saving grace of the entire operation) and was told I'd have an appointment in about 1.25 hours. Not bad for a walk in at the end of the day. The nurse took about 5-10 minutes to take my vitals and was all business - he wasn't particularly nice. I then went walking around for about an hour and showed back up in time for my appointment. The doctor, I believe Dr. Nadler (as this is the name on my bill), brought me into the room and seemed like he was in a complete rush the entire time. He asked me what I did and a couple other questions. He checked my lungs, then took a look at my tonsils and said that oh yes, they are very red. He swabbed for a strep test, saying the results should be back by monday, and asked me to take it up to the lab across the street. He also said he'd prescribe me some medicine which he insisted would make me feel better. I asked him more questions about my tonsils and he flippantly answered them while writing in my file and not looking at me. All this took about 15 minutes. I has to ask about the prescription and THEN he told me he'd sent it to my pharmacy. I go pick up my subscription... it's an anti-inflammatory (similar to asprin or ibuprofen) for people with arthritis. This medicine did NOTHING - no pain relief, no swelling relief, no reaction at all. Monday rolls around and I don't get a call about my results. I eventually got better on my own without the medicine prescribed to me. I called them TWO WEEKS LATER and they said that they don't call if the results are negative - if only Dr. Nadler had told me that, I wouldn't have waited around expecting a call. To top all this off, my bill was $438 for that initial visit and $171 for a strep test. I called the billing department and was told that $438 is their standard charge. Fortunately I have some insurance to cover this, although both those charges ate up about 2/3 of the reserve. Ridiculous!!! Over $600 for a 1.25 hour wait, unhelpful doctor with no prognosis, and medicine that did nothing.

They do not have clinicians onsite this entire week except Wednesday, and the nurses cannot do most procedures without a doctor overseeing. This means essentially they are only open on Wed. I love UCSF for all my other care, but it's ridiculous that urgent care is not available for most of its opening hours. And good luck trying to make an appointment or reach anyone on the phone. Also note they recently moved from 400 Parnassus to 1600 Divisadero (Mt. Zion Campus). Before this move/change, Acute Clinic always had a doctor onsite, and in November 2021 she was able to diagnose a life threatening condition and send me to UCSF ER across the street. It's very unfortunate people who need their care are no long able to receive them.

Needed urgent acute care eval & initial treatment for elevated BP, so called & found out this nearby UCSF Clinic had a same-day afternoon appt available & with the Director himself, Dr. Paul Nadler. What a COMPLETE let-down & disappointment & biz SCAM ! Arrived a few mins early & given too many to count papers to fill-out & sign & given approx price charge form by a way too serious head clerk, $450. They DEMAND you agree to too many terms to count, most NOT what I need or want, but what UCSF needs & wants. Not a good sign. Nice male RN eventually rescues me from way too serious form lady & takes my BP...yep, elevated! Told to “wait for the Doctor” in an empty med exam room. Maybe 15-20 long mins later, a 1st year Clinical MED STUDENT walks in & says hi & says she’s my “Doctor.” What ????? Huh???? No real Doctor or licensed MD or Specialist or advertised Dr. Nadler...I should have left! She did brief life history & basic focused exam (with clinical ERRORS even, yep, I’m a senior Doc) as part of her outpatient internal medicine CLASS rotation. Practice on me? $450.? Omg. She leaves & 10-15 mins later brings Dr. Nadler with her to “review” her case, he VERY BRIEF & CURSORY & REMOVED & IN HURRY & very supervisory only in manner. I had to ASK him, the Doctor & Director of the entire Clinic, to take his own BP, as he’s the ONLY DOC & MD SPECIALIST to meet with me in 1.5 hours there! Omg. The Med Student & he leave & she only comes back with BP Med Rx Form a few minutes later, no info on med or risks or side-effects or adverse effects or required informed consent. Not good. Dangerous. Unethical. Illegal. Ominous. The rest gets only WORSE clinically, then weeks later their INVOICE arrives for almost DOUBLE their stated & written official form price, almost $900. Yep, 2x the printed estimates visit price !!! What? Fraud, bait-and-switch, misrepresentation, sloppy health care, a SCAM ? The new UCSF growth biz plan ? Get patients, have free or cheap NON-MDs do most of their work, damage the patient, then send them a bill for DOUBLE THE STATED & PRINTED PRICE & then try to aggressively collect just DAYs later...yep, totally unwanted & HARASSING & even BP-ELEVATING e-mails & automated phone calls & robo calls...they don’t care about their patient. It seems all about $$$ now. Called their boss, now multimillionaire UCSF Health Administrator, Mr. Mark Laret, he disappears. Clearly hiding & evading & avoiding his induced problems & scams. Call his boss after patiently waiting weeks, now multimillionaire Chancellor Dr. Sam Hawgood, he disappears. Clearly hiding & evading & avoiding his induced problems & scams. Worried about the BAD PRESS & BAD CARE being reported. The new UCSF way...a growing DISASTER & DANGER here in biz-focused SF. Caveat Emptor, let the Buyer Beware !

I WENT TO URGENT CARE ONLY TO FIND THEY HAD CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT. I can't believe UCSF has the good reputation that it does. I have experienced nothing but poor customer service at every turn from their clinic and their urgent care. As health care professionals they should all be ashamed of themselves for the poor quality of service they provide. I have never in my life experienced such a lack of care for sick patients.

I can't get over how great the front desk staff was. I asked a ton of questions, all of which they answered kindly and patiently. While I was waiting for my appointment I saw them go out of their way to help other patients, calling in favors with other departments, one staff member literally went over to the ER to get a finger splint for a guy in the waiting room. They only schedule appointments if you are physically there so make sure you get there early or you could be waiting all day for an appointment.

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews for this place. It is not a regular urgent care and if you just try to walk in it will be difficult to get an appointment. This is an acute care clinic for patients with an established relationship with UCSF who need to be seen same day for something acute. If that is what you need, this place is perfect. As a patient with UCSF, I am really glad that they offer this service. I will be back next time I feel like crap!

I am so thankful for the Accute Care center at UCSF. I have visited there on many occasions over the last few years. Broken foot, poison oak, and the Flu to name a few. DR Nader is very nice and thorough. You have to do a little waiting around in the front end, but for a walk in clinic it is not bad at all. The labs for testing are in the building or right across the street. Once you have a lab, you report back to the clinic for instant results. Thank you!

As a UCSF patient, tried calling and walking in to be seen/get an appointment for over a week of sore throat/ horrible cough/rhinorrhea. Was told “no more appointments” both in person and on the phone and today Tuesday May 17 called at 0800 and was told “we’re closed today”. They maintain the facade of a real clinic but see no patients apparently.

Entrance is on the east (right-hand) side of 400 Parnassus. Do not use the main entrance. Door is second on the left on exterior of the street-level floor approaching from Parnassus. Front door staff takes a lunch break. Had an overall positive experience much better than ER when I needed xrays on my elbow.

They say to call to schedule an appt, and then the automated system routes you to nowhere useful. It's an embarrassing mess that UCSF should be ashamed of. If you can't serve patients, just say so.

Horrible. I called and they told me to come for a walk-in appointment.Got there first in line only be told they are fully booked. Healthcare in the US IS WORSE than a third world country.

They advertise phone appointments but route people to a dead number. Very unprofessional, nearly impossible to see anyone. Textbook example of all that is wrong with American healthcare.

If you don't show up early enough in the day they won't see you and as a walk in clinic they tell you that you needed an appt and on a Saturday that you'll have to go to the ER and spend all day waiting for care or be in pain until you get in with your regular doctor. This seems to conflict with what an urgent care clinic should do. They don't close til 4 but actually stop taking patients way before then.

👍👍 For being an app, Circle Medical works wonderfully. There are of course limitations to it being an app - everything has to be done through the app, so if you're someone who gets frustrated by that, it isn't for you.
