Context:
I
am
transfeminine,
have
numerous
health
concerns/issues
not
least
of
which
is
chronic
disabling
pain
from
a
botched
vaginoplasty
+
subsequent
failed
attempts
to
address
it,
and
for
the
last
5
years
have
frequently
received
inadequate
and/or
outright
negligent
care
from
a
variety
of
doctors
+
surgeons.
I
sought
out
the
Lyon-Martin
heath
clinic
because
I
had
heard
good
things
about
it
and
that
it
is
very
focused
on
trans
competent
care.
On
my
first
(and
likely
last)
visit,
I
spent
3
hours
giving
my
medical
history
to
a
nurse
by
the
name
of
Javier
(sp?),
who
was
very
patient,
kind,
and
empathetic.
Between
him
and
the
receptionist
(who
was
also
very
kind)
I
felt
optimistic
that
I
would
receive
the
care
I
need,
or
at
least
feel
like
my
health
needs
were
cared
about.
However,
following
my
intake,
I
only
received
a
~10
minute
appointment
with
a
doctor
by
the
name
of
Mimi
(sp?),
which
is
apparently
par
for
the
course
at
Lyon-Martin,
as
I
was
told
by
Javier
that
doctor
appointments
are
a
maximum
of
15
minutes
long.
My
case
is
very
complicated,
so
Javier
spoke
with
the
doctor
prior
to
them
(I
don't
know
Mimi's
pronouns)
seeing
me
in
order
to
lay
out
what
concrete,
immediately
addressable
issues
I
wanted
to
receive
(or
at
least
start
to
receive)
treatment
for,
which
included
a
simple
breast
cancer
exam
and
taking
a
look
at
a
dermatological
issue
I
had
recently
begun
to
experience
on
my
arms.
Much
to
my
surprise
and
frustration,
Mimi
spent
the
little
time
I
had
with
them
talking
about
administrative
stuff
that
could
have
easily
been
handled
by
the
receptionist,
completely
ignoring
any
of
the
health
concerns
I
showed
up
to
have
addressed.
When
I
tried
to
advocated
for
myself
within
the
limited
scope
of
what
was
being
discussed
(as
I
had
no
time
to
advocate
to
the
degree
I
needed
to),
I
only
received
push-back
and
dismissal,
both
behaviors
that
caused
me
to
experience
the
familiar
feeling
of
invalidation
by
a
doctor.
I
was
even
told
by
the
doctor
that
the
follow-up
appointment
I
had
scheduled
for
the
following
day
(that
the
nurse
strongly
believed
I
should
have)
was
pointless,
and
that
I
should
maybe
come
back
in
6
or
more
weeks.
The
entire
experience
with
Mimi
felt
procedural
and
devoid
of
empathy.
I
literally
went
to
a
"trans
competent"
health
clinic
and
was
given
no
health
care,
which
is
particularly
infuriating
as
I
noted
numerous
times
during
my
intake
that
I
was
there
because
for
5
years
I
have
received
inadequate
and
negligent
care
from
doctors.
Needless
to
say,
I'm
disappointed
and
irate,
though
sadly
not
surprised.
I
should
not
have
to
experience
this
kind
of
treatment
at
a
health
care
clinic
that
advertises
itself
as
trans
and
queer
competent.
I
wish
I
could
recommend
Lyon-Martin,
but
I
would
being
doing
the
trans/queer
community
a
disservice
if
I
did.
If
you
have
no
other
options
for
receiving
treatment,
sure,
but
even
Kaiser
with
all
it's
numerous
failings
has
been
a
better
experience
for
me.
I
came
to
the
clinic
hoping
to
finally
get
the
care
I
need,
and
left
jaded,
depressed,
and
angry.
