Apartment building

😠 Went to tour apartments here and they gave us 4 apartments to view— all of them were full of trash, stains, marked walls, and smelled from prior tenants. For these prices.. $3,500+ for a one bedroom, we were shocked to be given those to tour with no regard for how they were maintained or presented.... People often mention NEMA, building, apartment, nice, great, staff, leasing, super, experience, rent,

After four years of living at NEMA, I feel compelled to write a review of this fantastic building. I moved to SF four years ago, and this being my first experience living in an apartment in the city, I can't say that I've ever had a better experience anywhere. First off, the building is BEAUTIFUL. The interiors are modern, beautifully designed, and always kept impeccable (and it smells great - I want to know who provides the scents used in the common spaces). The building has every amenity that a busy San Franciscan could want - 24-hour concierge/security, valet, a killer great room on the 3rd floor, incredible views from the rooftop sun deck, and an 11th floor urban park with BBQs (my only complaint about the building - the park is almost too windy to use, but they've attempted to address the issue by adding wind guards). Packages are delivered INSIDE YOUR APARTMENT - both safe and convenient. Gym (almost better than the Fitness SF across the street), fully-equipped offices (two!), heated pool, great common spaces... what else could you want? Repairs/requests have ALWAYS been addressed promptly - most within 24 hours of my e-mail. I've never experienced that level of quality service, anywhere. I've seen some reviews here used as personal vendettas against the staff. Don't believe them. The staff is stellar. Eric and Kim are standouts. And Don, I'll miss you most of all! Don always greets me by name (in an 800-unit building!) with a big smile, and can always recommend a great restaurant or night spot in the neighborhood to try out. As for the neighborhood... well, it is transitional. SF has a horrible homeless issue, and the building is situated between two centers of the problem, the Tenderloin and SOMA. But I walk to my gym and other places without problem during the day (okay, I'm a big guy), but at night I'd advise taking an Uber. But as the building is on the MUNI and BART lines, you can get anywhere in the Bay quickly. And finally, the rent. Yes, NEMA is more expensive than the studio that you shared a futon with in college. It's a LUXURY building, with LUXURY features and a price that is somewhat higher than the city average. But not that much higher. And what you get for that difference is well worth what you pay - if not more. I'll miss you, NEMA. Thanks for an incredible four years in my new hometown. NOTE: This is not a paid review, nor have I received any type of compensation.

It has been a great experience leasing with Abby as I moved from Southern California and it has been tough to move on my own into the city but the team works hard to make it right and a welcoming environment to stay in. It is truly the best place to live and work for a new teacher like myself in the new city. I really appreciate the gift and the specialized package that has been placed in my new room

NEMA is one of the best apartments in our life. The management team is very kind and understanding, and they are always there to help you. For example, when my wife and I just moved in, we had a minor noise problem. Then, our leasing agent, Gerlynn Bernados, listened and helped us to change the apartment unit in just a week. It was the best experience I have ever had with apartment management teams. NEMA has everything we need such as nice view rooftop, gym, valet parking, pool, lounge, etc. The apartment is very well maintained and very cleaned.

Such a nice place to live. Friendly neighbors and cute puppies. Also there are bunch of nice facilities such as swimming pool, barbecue place, working place, spa and gym. There are tours and gatherings for residents like going to skiing to Heavenly at Lake Tahoe. Night views are also amazing here. Near to subway station and market place. Whole food flagship store was just opened few days ago. It’s about 10mins walking from Nema. Highly recommended.

Great building with awesome amenities. Front desk guys are very friendly. The maintenance team is superb. Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Coordinator are extremely responsive, any repair/ fixing request have been addressed very quickly and professionally. The building overall is very clean and pleasant to live in.

My wife and I toured over a dozen properties in SF. We saw all the newest complexes, the best high rises, throughout all parts of the city. We can safely conclude that NEMA was the very best overall apartment that we saw. Across all factors- price, space, quality of the unit, amenities, location...NEMA came out on top. The view from the unit we toured was the very best of any high rise in the area, and the unit itself was beyond spacious (by far the biggest of any of the luxury high rises in SF). The amenities also go beyond what you'd expect from even a luxury apartment (they offer multiple free workout and yoga classes per week...). And if you're a dog owner like us, you'll be happy to know their dog run is large and somehow doesn't smell like every other dog run we've been to (my guess is they clean very often). The immediate surroundings are also clean and safe enough to walk your dog around. Not to mention NEMA's straight across from the Market (countless coffee and food options there along with a little grocery store that has all your basic needs). Lastly, we absolutely have to give a shout out to our leasing agent, Gerlynn! Gerlynn was A DREAM to work with. She explained everything very thoroughly and never once did we feel pressured to make a decision. We took some time deliberating after we toured, but she remained super responsive throughout the process, both before AND after we signed a lease. Like we said earlier, we saw a LOT of apartments in SF and worked with plenty of leasing agents. Gerlynn was the best of the best. So TLDR: Super happy with NEMA :)

Everyone has said a lot about the amenities and how great they are, but the people and staff here are what makes the building truly worth it, in my opinion. Shoutout to Don for being amazing - always a smile on his face, and for being super helpful when we needed an issue in our unit looked at. Nema organizes the best building events in town too :)

The desk staff here is wonderful, but the apartment itself has extremely reduced airflow (window only opens 1 inch) and no air conditioning so it’s impossible to stay cool and is making it hard to breathe overnight. I emailed about an apartment transfer but no one has responded in over a week. I do not feel like my needs as a resident are taken seriously.

I love living here! Since the building is in the heart of the city, you can easily go anywhere you want. The view from the upper floors is excellent. There is a parking area with valet service. The building has a gym, pool and barbecue terrace.

I love it @ NEMA. My experience has been fantastic. The building is really nice & clean, my room is spacious & quiet, and the amenities are awesome. The building location has been super convenient for me as well. It's very central and there is easy access to freeways! The NEMA staff is also very friendly and accommodating. Thank you concierge, valet, management, leasing, and maintenance! Special thanks to my leasing agent, Abby Bergman, for making sure my stay at NEMA was the best choice! I actually did a virtual tour with Abby. I asked so many questions, and I was amazed on her quick response time. Everything presented to me virtually was 100% accurate. Thank you for your professionalism and friendly personality. I'm glad that I chose NEMA!

I love love loved living here! I have lived here 3 years I can honestly say this place is fantastic. (yes it sounds a bit over the top, and yes I am really honest; I do not get anything for writing this review) The facilities are wonderful, valet parking, a pool, community areas (with fire place, TVs and pool table), roof terras, bbq terras, it is all very very nice. But what makes this place truly great is the staff. Hence I will give a shout out to them first: Everyone is super nice and extremely helpful. The concierges are always greeting you, and they are always there if you need something and available 24/7. The leasing office staff are also extremely nice, they might not always be there (as the office is only open during office hours) but they will get back with you asap if you have questions. The cleaning staff is really nice too and they work really hard to keep the place super clean (so many people and dogs in the building but you wouldn't say it by how spotless it is kept). The valet people are also super nice and helpful and do their best to get you car quickly, and make sure your car (and motorcycle; as I have one as well) is kept under good care, they can even wash it for you and put air in your tires if needed. I didn't talk much to the mail people but when I did they are definitely very nice, and I loved having people receive my packages and notifying me or even deliver to my unit if I want when I have a delivery, I do know they work hard to get everything through in time. As for technical staff: I had to put in a couple work orders (my dryer, and the light in the hallway) and it was taken care of really quickly. You can even do all this over the app they have. So though I didn't talk to them, I was very pleased with their work. Last but definitely not least: I used the gym regularly, and attended many classes every week; and the trainers are a blast and very skilled, I loved their classes. The classes are complimentary and the gym is of high grade; enough machines and all very new and well kept. During the pandemic they even made sure they had plenty zoom gym classes so people could still keep moving. I definitely want to point out a few other great things about this building: it is super quiet. I lived on the street side, but when you close your sliding door (balcony) it is quiet. They did a great job sound proofing! I also hardly heard my neighbors. Besides from every now and then maybe a door that closes in the hallway, I didn't hear anything. And believe me: I am picky when it comes to noise. Regularly Nema organizes events for the residents that are either free to attend, or at a really good price point. In the 3 years I have been living here (except for pandemic time) I have plenty seen roll by: movie nights (with drinks and a popcorn machine), art walks in the city, happy hours at a trendy local bar, wine tastings in wine country (with shuttle), a live jazz band with drinks and bites, ski trips, brewery tours etc and especially their yearly holiday parties were EPIC (not sure if they have brought them back yet since we are still in a pandemic). All the events I have attended were a lot of fun! It is a great way to get to know fellow residents.

I toured the building and a few apartments recently. The building looks incredible, with some of the best amenities I've ever seen. A heated swimming pool! Units also seemed to be well-constructed and the staff (especially Moe, who toured me) were very professional, helpful and friendly.

Great place to live. People are incredibly kind. Service is great. Shout out to Tony at concierge for being awesome, he always brightens my day! I would especially like to thank Mohammad Alsaidi for his spectacular service and dedication for accommodating me and the the NEMA Sf residents. He is very friendly and super helpful, and everyone noticed because he got promoted from Concierge to Leasing. I had a pleasurable experience interacting with him as he is very accommodating. Totally recommended for any advice on leasing :)

I have lived in NEMA for about 2 years, almost since the beginning of Covid and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Any work order i had it would get fixed the same day. I lived in the 23rd floor and still love to wake up to sunrise. Hopefully someday I will be back to NEMA in about a year, everyone here is amazing and work really hard to make us have the best experience. The Amenities are the best perk you will see anywhere nearby , not to mention various events/free grab and go breakfasts.

So far been a very good experience. Aces in my book. I must thank Gerlynn in the leasing office for all her help and if considering the NEMA, she is a great person to do business with. It’s a privilege to live at the NEMA.

Already lived here for a month, LOVE this place! Michael helped me with everything with leasing, he is super nice, patient, responsible and responsive! He makes my move in quite smooth:) The studio is spacious. You have everything delivered to your door (very nice for lazy people like me). Hot water without 1sec waiting. It won’t make you regret to live here: ) Highly recommend

My time at NEMA has been outstanding. From the personable, professional staff to the accesible and luxurious amenities, I'm glad I made the choice to make this my first San Francisco home! Gerlynn, whom I now count as a friend and personal hype-girl, helped me find a place that fit me perfectly: spacious living room for hosting, comfortably large bedroom and closet space, and a eye-catching kitchen that's fully functional. I plan to be here for a long while. Thanks NEMA for making my move to San Francisco one to remember!

I lived in NEMA SF for the past year and it is an amazing apartment building! I don't typically write reviews about my housing but I felt like this place deserved the positive feedback. The front desk is very friendly and was always accommodating whenever I had a question or request. The elevators are very quick and the public areas of the building were always very clean and well maintained. I had a few standard maintenances issues during my stay, but NEMA would get back to me typically within the day and have it fixed immediately. I lived in a studio facing 10th street which is a noisy intersection, but the windows have excellent sound proofing. The unit was small which I knew when I chose it but the space was laid out very efficiently so it didn't feel cramped. There is a valet car service that is a monthly fee if you have a vehicle. It doesn't cost significantly more than waitlisted garage parking in nearby apartment complexes and you can have your car ready for you when you leave and just drop it off by the door when you return. Ray who runs the operation is so nice and did a great job keeping things running smoothly. Having lived in several apartment complexes in the past, NEMA definitely stands out as a company that has prioritized client experience and seems to take pride in running a high quality business. Finally, after moving to another state I just received notice of my security deposit and it was returned in full. Although I had not incurred any damage to the unit, it is almost unheard of in the Bay Area to get a full security deposit return without some sort of back and forth with the leasing office. I have absolutely no complaints about my stay in this building and would recommend NEMA to anyone looking to rent in this area!

We have lived here for a year. I give one star for the very friendly reception people and the very responsive maintenance, not to mention the super efficient mail people. I'm removing 3 stars because the lease management is so disappointing and so uncommercial, it's as if they wanted to push us out. Of course they are smiling but they have no humanity. Where has the customer service that the USA is known for gone? A word of advice: if you plan to spend more than a year here and you don't like moving, go elsewhere and make sure the policy is different. Here is our story: We signed a one-year lease at a time when rents were high ($6,490 for a 2-room apartment). We had 6 weeks free which over a year brought the rent down to around $5800. (NB: they told us that they could not do better than 6 weeks but we have neighbors who by putting them in competition obtained 8 weeks). We know that after a year the rent would be adjusted, but we thought that it would be based on the market, that is to say that if the price goes up, the rent goes up, if it goes down, the rent goes down. Well no, at Nema, either the rent stays the same or it increases, no chance of having a renewed rent at the market price. As we are going back to Europe in 9 months, we cannot take a 1 year lease so their only offer to stay in our apartment is to pay $6490 +5% (short lease penalty)!!! Note that our apartment is currently priced at $5,590 on the market. They have completely broken trust. Impossible to stay in our apartment with this rent when the next tenants will be able to benefit from it. Supposedly an accountant's problem. I do not believe that. And yes if they agree to do it with us they will have to do it to everyone, but wouldn't that be normal? Just the opportunity to retain good tenants? After this discussion, our only desire was to leave here but we were trapped, no one accepts a lease of less than 1 year. Our only option is to do what they hoped we would do: change apartments, which creates an illusory movement of dynamism for Nema (as if new tenants arrived regularly). Otherwise the pool is nice but super windy, and not often sunny, so not a good place to lounge. Note that it was down for 4 months, and we didn't get any compensation because it's supposedly free. Ahahah! Obviously this is not free and we pay for these improvements in the rent. It's just an assertion to absolve oneself of all responsibility. I also find it very unfortunate that we have to pay $25 for each bike. In other buildings it is always free. The terrace for barbecues is very windy and is with the dogs' pee area, it smells of urine throughout the space so it doesn't whet the appetite. The sofas are full of dog hair because the owners of these animals do not respect the rules of good manners. Don't count on this space for an outdoor meal with friends. As for the apartment, it is spacious and bright, pleasant to walk around. On the other hand, the equipment is quite cheap compared to other luxury residences, and the bathroom is really mediocre, very poor lighting for putting on makeup. No blackout blinds in all apartments so it's up to you to make do. In short, an experience that could have been at least 4 stars and which turned into a nightmare because I hate moving.
