👍👍 Sea lions are majestic! They are so lazy and fun to watch. I could spend hours here and still want more time. It’s so calming and entertaining to be in this area. They sleep, move around, yell and play with each other. Must visit spot if you’re visiting San Francisco. People often mention lions, watch, area,

Today there weren’t that many sea lions in pier 39 because of winter season. My suggestion is go in spring or summer. However, those sea lions are really cute! You cannot miss this place!

Such a bizarre and amazing thing to see. Right in the heart of the city, these creatures live in harmony with the bay. You can hear them from a mile away, and they are quite hard to miss when you stumble upon them. You simply have to see them when you come to San Francisco, it's a must. Also great views of Alcatraz and bridges.

Make sure to check this out!! There was some there when i went and wow! So beautiful to see wildlife in the actual wild instead of some aquarium in space to small for them! Love how they have extra space for the sea lions and welcome them.

Sea lions are very funny, you could see them pampering each other here, playing with each other, throwing the other sea lions into the water, etc. Some sea lions are just relaxing and enjoying the sun all the time. Overall a lovely sight

It was such a beautiful day in the city. We started around Pier 24 then made our way to Aquarium of the Bay which was a treat and made our way to where the Sea Lions roam. The city has changed a lot since I was a kid but bringing my Son there with my Mama was a magical experience. Great salty Bay air, always amazing watching the Sea Lions interact with each other. Go.

Fun spot where you can watch sea lions for free. It's very crowded. There are many restaurants nearby, one has a view on the viewing area too. Parking nearby is paid, quite a bit. It may be a good idea to park somewhere more far away and take a train.

A great place to watch the seals and sea lions and it doesn't cost a dime! They are pretty hilarious to watch. And being right on Pier 39, there are a ton of other things to do as well.

I don't think I've ever seen live sea lions before but it was so cool! I could have spent hours there watching them play and bark at each other. Really cool experience that I highly recommend if you're in the area

It’s a great attraction. It is wheelchair accessible. There are ramps and elevators. We visited on a Tuesday around noon so it wasn’t too crowded and we were able to watch the sea lions for a long time without feeling like we were preventing other people from standing at the front . There are standing blocks further in the back so if you are able to stand and it gets busy, you can watch them from there. There is no coverage so wear sunscreen and a hat. If it’s raining, bring an umbrella.

I had a delightful time at the Sea Lion viewing area at Pier 39 in San Francisco. The sea lions were absolutely captivating to watch as they frolicked and interacted with one another. The viewing platforms were strategically placed to provide excellent views from different angles, allowing me to take some incredible photos. I also appreciated the educational signs that provided interesting facts about sea lions and their conservation. The only drawback was the occasional strong smell that emanated from the area, which is expected given the presence of a large number of sea lions. However, it didn't detract significantly from the overall experience. If you're in San Francisco, don't miss out on this unique opportunity to observe these playful creatures in their natural habitat!

One of my favourite parts of my San Fran trip, the sea lions are so casual and care free as they sit out in the sun. Admire them from a distance and take in the novelty. Beautiful creatures with lots of personality which can be entertaining from this view point.

It's definitely different than it was 30 years ago!! Quite run down!! You can still watch the sea lions but they are far away and not nearly as many of them as in years past. They are still fun to watch!

Crowded, but worth it! Sea lions are hilarious to watch and the dock isnthe perfect place! We were also lucky enough to see the Blue Angels fly by for fleet week!

There were only a couple sea lions, but they were so cute!!! Also, at around 7:30 PM, you get an amazing view of the ocean. You can also see the golden gate bridge and Alcatraz from here.

Hey hey hey, wanna see some wild sea lions? It’s almost a guarantee to find them here! These majestic animals fight for a resting spot on the wooden platforms. You could gaze at them as if you were watching the national geographic channel!

This was one of the main reasons that I came to Pier 39. If you like ethical animal watching, this is something you'll enjoy doing. There was a wildlife representative there, and she talked to us about the sea lions and seals and how they got there (something I never considered). The information boards on the docks are also quite helpful. Please be respectful. Don't throw anything at the animals and don't try to feed them! There's food by the pier as well as bathrooms, so you'll have all of the human comforts within easy reach. This is also the starting point for quite a few boat rides to explore the bay so you can easily stop here before your departure. Additionally, bring a jacket because even in warm weather, the pier can get really cold!

This experience was amazing. With being from the East Coast, I’ve only ever seen California Sea Lions at the NY Aquarium and seeing them in California in the open was my childhood dream coming to life! If you are in the area you must go check it out!

Watching these animals sun themselves and bark at each other was great. They are so majestic in the water. It's very popular area but there is lots of room to stand and watch. A must see in SF

This is by far the best part of Pier 39. The big oafs laze around, flop about in the water, and randomly let out amazing bellows that you can hear from the street. There weren’t that many today, but even a few of them will put a smile on your face.

Out of our entire SF trip this was my 5year old favorite thing! They could’ve watched the sea lions for hours!! There are also excellent views of the Golden gate from this spot!
