The front desk service is horrible! Also, this hotel will seriously charge you for everything, and it's overpriced. Our flight got in early. Yes, the room was ready, but if we wanted to check in before 3, you had to pay $50. Wait, why? That would NOT be the case at a Hilton or Marriott. Parking is an additional $50 a night! Then, to top it off, all the services fees check-in costs me $185 extra. That's without early check-in. We thought about doing late check out. Oh, guess what it's $35 a hr. Just bananas. If I didn't already pay for two nights and could get a refund, I definitely would go to another hotel that values the guest. The front desk staff were very rude and frustrated me. The bathroom toilet smells bad and doesn't fully flush. The bed sheet had a weird stain, and the room overall didn't smell clean. I will definitely never recommend the Riu hotel. The beds are very uncomfortable. Hard and springs you can feel. It's definitely not a good night's sleep. They offer free breakfast but not worth the line you have to wait in. Over 50 people down the hall. It's truly insane. If you want breakfast, get there early. Overall, it's sad and not the way I wanted to start our family vacation.

I booked this hotel because of the reviews on The Hopper app. We also wanted somewhere close to some landmarks that we could walk to and this is only a few blocks from Fisherman’s wharf and the other way you can get to Little Italy. The price was also really good for the weekend compared to other places. Check in was easy and the lobby was busy with people just enjoying time lounging and at the bar/restaurant. The room felt clean and simple. We had all the amenities that we needed along with a little balcony. The cool thing about the hotel as well as the all-you-can-eat breakfast that was included in the stay. It had so much food options and I wish we could’ve had it for all 3 days we were there and yet we spent most of the time traveling. The place felt very safe and I would happily recommend it to anybody.

The people (and location) is what makes this hotel great. Located only a block from the wharf, nestled amongst stores and restaurants, this hotel has a very desirable location. The hotel lobby staff however, especially the amazing hotel manager Harvey made us feel extremely valued by taking extra time out of his busy schedule to put our minds at ease (about the city not the hotel). In today's day and age, this kind of service is sadly a rarity. Thank you for providing top top top customer service. Kudos to the hotel for hiring the best!

Honestly was surprised by this hotel. For the price you're right in the action. If your a first time tourist to San Francisco it's a great stay. The Big Bus shuttle leaves around the corner. Location couldn't be better. The room was spacious clean and the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've been in in a while. The breakfast buffet was great everything was really tasty. And it saved us a good bit of time in the morning. . Only Con I have is check in is a pain and they won't renew your room for the online price you paid through one of the travel sites. Instead you have to rebook online, wait for it to process, checkout and check back in.

Love this hotel. The free breakfast was amazing. The line can get long, so if you are hungry don't wait. Even though it's complimentary, they seat people by how many people are in the party. There is Safeway (grocery store) right across the street. And Fisherman's wharf is in walking distance. There's nothing special about the rooms, but the bathroom was really small. Closing the door to the bathroom is extremely tight. Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

Nice place to stay and is in a fantastic location. We have enjoyed our stay here as it is in a great location and the rooms are nice. We had breakfast included and it is top notch for a buffet style breakfast. The hotel is a $53 UberXL ride from the airport and is convenient for all modes of transport around town. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is that the check-in process takes forever and the bath had a few hairs in it when we arrived. Otherwise this is a fantastic hotel and I would recommend.

Feels like a haven away from the wharf. Rooms were clean and hotel was welcoming. All in all this hotel was lovely and felt modern. I saw a lot of reviews based around the look of the hotel, I honestly can't complain about anything at the hotel. Be aware however, if you have booked breakfast make sure you arrive between 7am - 8am as it gets very busy, we never had an issue arriving at 7am, but we would always see the long line as we left around 8:30am.

Hotel is great, the room was clean and smelled good. It was too cold to enjoy the pool but there is one and it’s decent. The breakfast was good, just note that there is always a line and the later you go, the longer you’ll wait but it’s no big wait time. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it’s well located.

Cute hotel in a perfect location for all the activities we did the day we were in San Francisco. Nice outdoor fire pit areas. Overnight in and out parking (for a fee) until 4pm the day you check out (this was a life saver!). Breakfast buffet included, give your room number and you're seated at a table. Room was wonderful and updated. Comfiest bed we've had so far on this trip!

We had one of the "cheap rooms" and so there was some road noise. The rooms were clean, the bathroom space was very very small with almost no vanity space. The housekeeping service was excellent, the front desk and store person were very very nice. The breakfast was exceptional. The location was excellent. I would stay there again and pay a bit more for a nicer room on a higher floor.

Stayed at the Riu Fisherman’s Ward for the first time on a mini vacation with my husband. We chose the Riu for its location which is perfect. We reserved a Jr. Suite for $389 a night which was a bit overpriced for the room, in my opinion. The room was clean. The rooms and hallways (especially the painted doors and jambs) need some cosmetic and paint touch-ups…including the wood furniture with the dents, scrapes, and dings. The bathroom sink had low water pressure and the spigot leaked out the top when turned-on. The king bed was awfully hard and the pillows were flat when you lay on them. You can tell the hotel attempted to upgrade, the lobby looked great but in the halls and rooms they left the old used, scraped, and dented doorknobs in place which, with the scraped paint and dents on the outside of the room doors, detracts from the overall look. The free breakfast was amazing, so many cold and hot choices but the seating was limited and cramped. We were seated next to a table with two young and obviously sick children coughing and snorting within 3 feet of us. Not good with Covid and flu still going around. Safety in the hotel was great allowing you to only access other floors with your key card. The area around the hotel was pretty secure, we felt safe during our stay and walked for blocks after dark. Would I stay again? Probably only due to location, breakfast, but next time will bring my own pillow.

we stayed only 2 nights in this hotel. we had a good experience. the room was clean, the beds very comfortable, housekeeping and staff very friendly. the breakfast was good. the only minus point/star is that parking costs $57 per day, which is way too expensive. at least the nice lady at the front desk gave us a discount since we checked in late at night. for those who are a light sleeper like me: the rooms are a bit noisy. you can hear the cars on the street, which was less bad than the guest above our room. this tramp started making rounds in the room at 5 in the morning. we were awake every time from 5 o'clock and couldn't get back to sleep. i don't understand how someone can tramp up and down in the small room for hours, non stop!

I LOVE THIS HOTEL!!! It feels luxury as soon as you arrive, the staff is warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. Our room was fantastic - felt clean and well maintained. The location is perfect to the wharf. The breakfast included with our room was spectacular each day - huge variety and extremely tasty... total value!! Riu properties are now on my radar for all future trip planning!

Great location and walking distance to the Pier 39. Decent hotel, friendly staff and clean. Good breakfast but limited seats for the size of the hotel. Was always very busy at breakfast in the mornings. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, bathrooms were a little small. Safe, clean and couldn’t beat the location. Starbucks right around the corner!

Pros: Refrigerator, hair dryer and iron and ironing board in the rooms. Beds are decently comfy and linens are soft and clean. Free breakfast buffet between 6:30am and 10:30pm; however, I recommend getting to the buffet before 8am otherwise you can expect a bit of a wait to be seated. Location is great and walkable to Pier 33 and Fisherman's Wharf in general. Cons: Rooms are a bit dated. "Popcorn" ceilings, no microwave and bathrooms are cramped. If you happen to be unfortunate enough to be in the back of the hotel it can be noisy at night as it's right next door to a bus depot. We could also hear the people next door talking and the people above us when they would walk. $50 a night for hotel guest parking in the garage. A surprise "facility fee" of $33.80 per night that is NOT included in the total when you book. They put it at the bottom in very fine print "this total includes taxes and fees but does not include a $33.80 per night facility fee per room". Typical San Francisco/ Cali charging fees for EVERYTHING. My "total" online after I booked 2 rooms with king sized beds was $1,330 but when I got to the hotel to pay my true total was $1,990. They charge you the facility fee when you arrive at the hotel along with a $200 deposit (again this was for 2 rooms).

The hotel location is excellent for Pier 39 and walkable to the marina. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with air con. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing. Cheapest way to travel is to get an all day pass on the local buses, which you can buy on board. $5 for the day. Bus stop at the back of the hotel. The hotel is expensive but you are paying for the location. No views of the pier.

Update: 3 weeks after our visit the hotel has not refunded our deposit of $300 Stayed October 2023, 2 adults and kids aged 17,15 and 10. Checked in after a long flight from the UK and it was a little slow but the guy was in training so that’s ok. He was helpful and gave us bottled water. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the bathrooms are really small. We had interconnected rooms which was helpful. There is a shop and a bar which are expensive but this seems to be normal in California! My youngest used the pool and enjoyed it. The location is really handy for fisherman’s wharf, Alcatraz and the SF trams. It was mid season but breakfast was always busy. We were up early due to jet lag so entered at 6:30am opening. There are signs in the elevator warning that there will be wait times at 7-30 to9am. From what we could see the staff were moving people through quickly. It’s all you can eat buffet so people tend to hang around. I’m summary don’t moan about the breakfast, if you don’t want to queue get there early! I’ve read reviews saying people didn’t feel safe, this was not our experience.

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Our room was spacious and comfortable and provided everything we needed for the little time we spent in it. Let's be honest. We spent most of our time exploring the area and then some, which is what most people do when vacationing. It was clean and tidied up every day by the friendly service staff. The front desk associates were friendly and readily answered any questions put to them. The breakfast offered was awesome. Huge selection of foods to choose from no matter what your diet. Although there was a lineup every morning, the system in place to seat guests was like a well-oiled machine. The pool area was often quiet, which made it a pleasant place to unwind after spending the day walking around. The gym was obviously popular, and the outside fireplace seating areas were pleasant first thing in the morning or later in the evening. We would definitely recommend to friends and family, and we would, without hesitation, return for another stay.

If you want a real San Francisco experience, reserve room 4426. You will experience a full blown 4.0 earthquake every time a trolley or trash truck goes by. And you may think you left the window open because the sound on the street carries perfectly inside BUT you didn’t. At check in the rude woman will say I’m sure they gave you a quiet room if you requested it, without even checking. They did move us to a quieter room after three nights which was greatly appreciated. We will, however, never stay here again.

Booked thru a travel website. Well worth the price ( breakfast included), 1 block from Fisherman's Wharf. Rooms were beautiful, comfy, spacious, safe included, mini fridge too. Didn't swim in their pool, or sit out in their beautiful, clean courtyard. But appreciated the SYMPHONY of foods at their ginormous breakfast buffet. Restaurant staff was a lesson in how to do it all. Front desk was really overworked. Thanks for being such a thorough process. Get more front desk employees...! Overall, I'd love to stay there again.

Beautiful hotel just a few minutes walk from Pier 39. The staff are so friendly and efficient. Our room was a little noisy, so they moved us to the top floor with no fuss, we didn't even have to move our own cases! Lovely bar serving great drinks (bit pricey, but it's a hotel in SF, so to be expected). The rooms are great, spacious and spotless. We even had a guy come to our room at 5.20 am to show us how to use the coffee machine..he said he gets it all the time. Lovely guy. Would definitely recommend this hote

I would’ve easily given four stars if it weren’t for the idea that we paid $250 for parking in a public garage all week, or that if you don’t get something to drink in the breakfast cafe, then you have to buy it from the grab and go store. There are no vending machines nor drinks available for purchase before 6:30 a.m. when the either the store or cafe opens. All in all we paid a lot of money for a decent hotel and location.

Two weeks ago I was there to help a group of my clients with the check-in process. I had more than 10 clients. They needed to obtain the room keys before their arrival, so that they would not be in a hurry when arrived at the hotel. Salvador at the front desk answered my inquiries nicely when I called the night before. When I was at the front desk, Corinne helped me a lot with the check-in and made the process very smooth. She was extremely helpful and patient. She also noticed that I was a bit stressed, so she handed me a bottle of water, which I appreciated a lot. I wanted to thank Corinne for her great work.

I visited SF with my friends for the first time after pandemic. We barely saw a homeless person on the street and we felt very safe around the hotel. Great location. Only a few blocks to everywhere! Very friendly staff and we felt welcomed. The breakfast was amazing! The bed is so comfortable. I just wish the shower had more pressure in my room but bearable. We will definitely come back again! Thank you.

Great location, walking distance to the piers and shops. Linen is nice quality and room was clean. Shower and toilet room had very limited space to move around in. Shower water pressure was good and no sewage smell in the water (like some areas or places). Windows opened which was nice for fresh air. Loved the complimentary breakfast, decent selection of food and beverages. However, I will not be staying here again due to thin walls and ceilings. We could hear people walking above us, unfortunately, we had an early bird person and it was hard to sleep in or return back to sleep after being woken up by the ceilings creaking for hours by all the walking above. It’s hard to ignore the constant ceiling creaking. Room was also by the transit station side and that was noisy as well. If you don’t care for thin walls, surrounding noise level and willing to take a chance, this would be a nice place to stay.

This was a great location and easily walkable to many areas. It was very clean and modern. The breakfast was crowded but there was plenty of food at the buffet and the employees kept it all running smoothly. The bathroom was a little small but the room itself was plenty of space. Also, our front desk experience was great and the lady who helped us was very kind.

I had an excellent stay at this hotel. For the price and location, I’d recommend this as an option. Some reviews made me nervous, but I ended experiencing zero issues. Highlights: 1. Great front desk staff - I interacted with multiple staff members and they were all wonderful including Salvador and Maggie. 2. Fast breakfast lineups - it’s true that there will be 20 people lineups during breakfast time, but they move extremely fast. Over 4 nights, my wait ranged from 0-3 minutes. Inside the dining area, there are lots of food options and they have lots of staff making sure everything if getting refilled. 3. Rooms - while there could be better insulation, there wasn’t any issue at all for my sleep or comfort. Main feedback would be to touch up the paint in some areas as a low cost high impact improvement.

Location is perfect. In just 2 minutes you walk to the water. Service at the reception is perfect. Not 5 stars because the price is high for one night. Besides that it is possible that you have to wait a very long time for breakfast. We were very early and just in time. We saw a line with 50 people waiting for a table. Breakfast had very good food and drink options. But it is a little to busy for me.
