I visited on a Tuesday in December. It was busy, but we managed to find parking easily. Driving there on a sedan was ok but I imagine with a smaller cc car or a lower cc scooter would take some effort. I'm conflicted - I wouldn't have wasted time to go up if I weren't already nearby. From the reviews, it's obvious it's an IG backdrop. At the same time, many mentioned the cooler temperatures and a waterfall. I travelled with an active 3yo toddler who slept the 1hr journey up from Chiang Mai and had enough energy to go up and down the steep roads and a very short waterfall hike without us having to carry her. However, it was not a restful experience there - huge cars plough the road the village is on, and there are no pavements, so you would have to sidestep the enormous crowd every single second, trying your best not to be hit by those cars driving up (of course some have to drive quickly as they need enough acceleration power to go up the steep slopes). The stalls were also very Japanese inspired with yakitori, mochi, tayaki, soft serve etc. Stall owners were not smiley or friendly - can't blame them, the crowd is tremendous. Would say if you have been to Taipei's Jiufen, this place feels similar. Undoubtedly picturesque but also super touristy, crowded, contrived at times and not restful. I accidentally 'ruined' some photos as I had no choice but to pass tripods when walking up the slopes. I'm glad I went up, but I don't think I'll return.

Small village that seemed stuck in time. Small stretch of shops all in their wood building. Nice to spend like half an hour or an hour exploring, trying out some local snacks, or just to do photos and video shoots. Parking can be a challenge.

The road from Chiangmai to the village is very beautiful. To enjoy the beauty of that road in the most vivid way as well as being closest to nature, it is recommended that you ride a motorbike instead of driving a car. The village is peaceful and has its own unique character with rustic wooden stilt houses nestled next to streams and waterfalls. The people here are very sweet and sincere.

A small village on Doi Saket, a popular tourist destination for tourists to experience the cold weather. Even during the rainy season, it's equally beautiful. very suitable for going on vacation During long holidays or festivals, it will be very crowded. It is recommended to go on weekdays. My feverite food in this place is Ice tea scoop with lemon juice and Kao-Soi beef.

Another place, very beautiful and also has a very refreshing atmosphere. Because it is in the midst of a fertile valley, food, drinks and souvenirs are very cheap. I will come back to visit this place again.

The old village with Japanese vibe, so peaceful and cool. You can book a private car to go here and back in a day or rent a room to enjoy the evening here. Everything is so cool and wonderful.

Great trip out from Chiang Mai. We hired a car and drove ourselves, the drive was scenic and not too challenging. Amazing cafe at top of the hills with views of the village down the valley. Definitely worth the hike to the top and a nice change of pace from the busier cities in Thailand.

I'll be honest: the village itself is nothing special. It's got a cute and subtle feeling to it overall. I personally enjoyed the travel to the village more. The surrounding nature, cooler weather, and a cafe I visited on the way up were nicer. I still highly recommend making the trip regardless.

Mae Kampong is a “must” go place in Chiang Mai. The view from mountain top is absolutely breathtaking and there are so many restaurants and cafes of both traditional and local Thai style & food. The place is foreigner-friendly and roads are good. I feel very satisfied after visiting such a beautiful place. It is a gem of Northern Thailand.

Excellent espresso, pastries, hot chocolate, location, and ambiance. This coffee shop is indeed a great place to kill your time, do business, and to study as well. The coffees and hot chocolates they had was so delicious. The place was so cozy. The decorations were so cute.

I have mixed feelings about this little town. On one hand, it's a quaint and cute little town and looks right out of a Ghibli anime. But it's also a bit too touristy - There's maybe 10 shops on the only street - half are souvenir shops, half are street snack food and everyone is just there trying to take same pictures in the same spot. Theres only a handful of restaurants and the food is very mediocre (we ate at 2 places). The one road is uphill but even if you want to walk around and explore, theres not much you can walk because its just one street. There was very bad traffic on the road as well, all the cars and humans were stuck there. If you are driving, make sure you don't miss the entrance to your homestay otherwise it would be impossible to U-turn. We walked to the cafe at the top for a view and back down. The town is probably worth a visit, but not sure if I'd return.

Beautiful old style village. Would like to say unspoiled but can’t as too many signs and cafes. Food a little expensive but the villagers need to make a living. Worth the hours travel from chiang Mai. They drop you at the bottom of the village and you may well miss the best part by not walking up the hill to see everything. There is a beautiful old temple with moss and ferns growing on the roof. A couple of small waterfalls in the stream make good photographs.

A small village in a valley, which has become quite a popular tourist destination. The village centre has a vibrant street food scene, with a few restaurants and cafes. There is a popular waterfall nearby, and a few hilltop cafes. I would recommend staying a night.

it's not so easy to drive to this location, you must be very experienced or an excellent driver, if possible get a taxi!! Quite far from the city of Chiang Mai but this village has massive charms and lots to be discovered 👌

Leave your car and get on a local transport. Take a walk- long and short as your time allows. Grab some food, get local dessert, or some drink and coffee. Pray at the local temple, in the middle of the falls. :-) If your schedule permits, stay overnight.

Village is very unique, and great to visit even for just one day. The road is narrow and steep, but manageable if you drive slow and aren’t weighted down too much. Parking is a bit difficult but come during the weekday and you’ll have an easier time

The village itself is very beautiful, however, it super crowded when we came on weekend. Hard to find parking lot for cars. Foods are also overpriced. You might visit once to know the place, but not an ideal place to visit often.

I would recommend to stay overnight. If it is a weekend, there are too many people. At night, when there are less people, I would like to have dinner along the street

Small quiet and quaint village a few hours drive away from Chiangmai. Do book your transport in advance to and from Chiangmai at least a day before. Only down side is if you want to visit 'The Giant', you may need to wait for other passengers to co-share a car. If you want to rent a car separately at the drop off point, it may be from 500bht-700bht, compared to 120-180bht/pax. Bring your Brolly/ Rain Jacket!

Visited 2 times, love it, very nice village. The walking street is short but full of street food and snack. Its super crowded so if you need nice photos then should stay over one night and take the photos early morning (which I could not)

This place is Mae Kampong Village. I go every year. It's a small village that's not very big. It's very suitable for relaxing. The accommodations are nice and the food is delicious. I would like to recommend going during November - January because it is winter and the weather is very cold and refreshing. The lowest I've ever been was about 10 degree. The degrees were so cold that when I spoke there was smoke coming out of my mouth. Going to this place means you can relax and breathe the clean air without pollution. Not very far from Chiang Mai city, just one and a half hours. In this village, there are many restaurants and traditional Northern food. Whether it's Khai Paam, Sai Ua, Khao Soi, and many more. The people there are very hospitable and everyone is nice and friendly. And there is one shop that I like to go to. Maewdoi Gallery Shop It's a small shop that sells handmade items. Everyone tends to go in and buy a lot of small things. What you can't miss is that writing letters here has a lot of mailboxes, which is a real highlight. Mae Kampong village, is still fertile, preserving nature without destroying or encroaching on the forest. And there are nearby tourist attractions as well. If you have the opportunity, I'd like everyone to open their mind and go to this place because the atmosphere is very good. It's my favorite station ^^
