I love all of the hidden gems you run across as you hike the park. There are many stops littered throughout the park where you can sit and rest. There is a charming lake at the top where you'll see turtles and fishes, hear frogs, see people fishing. I've been hiking the park and there are still many trails I haven't tried yet. My favorite is a stopping point at the top with great views and 2 benches. Here I'll sit, relax and contemplate life :-) There is also the Audubon center which is at opposite ends of the main entrance. There's alot of lovely free programs and public art Exhibits that usually happens here. There is plenty of free parking and public restrooms at the main entrance and a parklike , picnic setting.

This such a great little get away while still in the city. The views are fantastic and the trails are beautiful. It feels like a place that can only exist in LA and doesn’t ever feel crowded or touristy. This is a great place to clear your head and relax.

I was hiking in East L.A.!! And I really enjoyed it!! Don’t let location snobs exclude you from enjoying a great hike with nice views of SGV DTLA and toward south LA!! 600’ of incline makes for a moderate challenge and gets me back into hiking and helps me sweat out the toxins!! πŸ˜… πŸ˜… nice views, nice pond, nice people!!

Beautiful park with trails. If you go up the trail that goes up the big hill you will find a beautiful lake with turtles. The air is fresh, views are fantastic, and parking is free.

It's like a surprise treasure which appears before your eyes when you get to the top of the hill. A small lake called Debs Lake that surrounded with tall trees and full with clear water and lots of turtle. It's a perfect spot for a picnic or relaxing. I definitely recommend this place if you want to get away from crowded and busy lifestyle but just don't want to drive too far

In the Bay Area, San Francisco is commonly known as β€œThe City” as if it were some archetypal construct. The concept of where the city begins and ends is clearly understood and defined by the community within and surrounding it. In Los Angeles however, the idea of what constitutes the city does not exist. The boundaries are diffuse and gerrymandered. The center is unclear. Downtown could be the center, yet it is considered β€œEast Side” by some. The exact balance point of the plane of LA is somewhere along Mulholland Drive of all places. Still these are both considered cities. How does one maintain the kind of cognitive dissonance it requires to hold these two definitions of a city in a single thought?

This is a hidden gem near downtown los Angeles. It's a great place for hiking and watching birds also I noticed that they were offering wildlife first aid classes, that to me was a first. Anyways it is recommended that you bring water insert repellent and please arrive early because parking is limited.

One of the most beautiful parks I’ve been to in LA. We went at sunset and sat on the swing then caught the reflection of the red sky in the lake! Really not too busy either. And the trail network is vast so people are entering in from all different sides of the hills β€” lots to explore.

A sizable hillside park in Northwest LA with great views and multiple trails for a good hike or trail run. The hills are steeper than I expected but yeah the views at the top is definitely worth it. There are multiple trailheads and access points to the park so you can enter the park from both Arroyo Seco and Huntington Dr. The best views and trails are in the north half of the park, which is steeper too. In the south half, there is a big picnic and recreational area with public restrooms onsite, by the parking lot in the middle of the park.

LA’s backyard. Nice neighborhood park with clean trails not too hard hills and killer views of Los Angeles skyline. If you go in the Spring tons of green, yellow wild black mustard. Not a lot of shade so bring water and sunblock.

My kids and I love to hike. I saw this place on a tik tok, and I thought it was a cool place for the kids to experience. There's a park and hiking trails all around. We hiked up to the lake where we saw a bunch of turtles and then hiked down to a swing. My kids and I enjoyed our day, and we will often be visiting.

Cute park with LA view, ponds, and turtles. This is a great hiking spot for anyone and everyone. There are many trails and paths for you to take, depending on where you'd like to go. I recommend hiking towards Debs lake. It's a beautiful area with benches and you can see turtles swimming or sun-bathing near the water :) It's also dog-friendly and everyone in the community is kind. Perfect spot to hike + enjoy the nature.

Cool park with great views and great trails to get a workout in. The lake with the turtles on the top is one of the pay offs. Plenty of parking, plenty of entrances. Google maps has all the trails marked to help you navigate. As of 5/2021 there was a swing. Try finding it and Enjoy

Free parking, feel free! This park has several entrances, but most of them are free. This is quite a steep mountain. We highly recommend using active wear specifically with the upcoming hot weather. Mountain biking can be fun to ride here. This park also allows you to find small creatures and look at the LA Syline! Recommended to come with friends just because of safety reasons. No restrooms nearby. Pet friendly park.

Be prepared for the inclines on the trail. Bring some water and sunshine screen because there isn't any shade on the trail beside the pond. Bug spray is a MUST! The trail doesn't have any signs to let you know where you are going. I enjoyed it I'll be back.

A park I routinely mis-identify as Eugene V. Debs Park, but I digress. This is a large, elevated urban park boasting hilly trails that curtain off the rest of the city with cliffs, escarpments and trees. Probably the park's most famous feature is its turtle pond, a roughly 10-minute hike up the dirt paths that start at the parking lot. The pond is shaded, though the trees open up enough to reveal the downtown L.A. skyline. Beyond the pond are various hiking trails where one can roam for hours. In February, 2024, I spotted two coyotes scavenging, so keep your pets on leashes! A large grassy region sits by the parking lot where folks can find covered picnic benches.

Amazing gem of a park. Didn't know it was here. The park at the beginning of the trails has clean bathrooms. Lotsa free parking. Beautiful area. Ppl like to walk their dogs on the trail. Make sure to bring poop bags if you plan on bringing your pup. I didn't see any poop bag dispensers. They do have trash cans all along the trail. Bring water. Most of the trails are beginner to intermediate.

A pleasant experience - even for solo hikers like myself! Came here on a Tuesday and arrived at 11:37 am. Set directions to "Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, 4235 Monterey Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90032" via Google maps which took me directly to the (FREE) open-gated entrance of the park. This led me up to a large parking lot area that has PLENTY of parking spots. Warning: LOTS of speed bumps upon entry--be prepared! I live in West LA so by the time I arrived (a bit TMI but) I had to PEE! To be honest, I absolutely dread using public park bathrooms (unfortunately I am one of those people) but when your bladder is going to burst... you just gotta go. I am happy to report that the women's bathroom as of 8/24/21 - 2 stalls with toilet paper and 1 sink was pleasantly CLEAN! So if you're a bathroom shy person like me, don't worry about the restrooms here-- use it if you must! Hopefully it stays that way and we all do our part in keeping it clean (: LOTS of picnic table seating area in the parking area for families, meeting up with friends, resting and relaxing. I even saw some BBQ areas too! I would say at least 10+ people were here when I arrived! The Hike Having this be my first time here, I decided to start my hike at the large "Ernest E. Debs Regional Park" sign. Right by this sign is a cement paved path that literally goes uphill. I would say in 0.4 miles it leads you to a pond area to your left. The pond had turtles in them, a few benches to sit on, and some people were fishing! I wasn't sure where to go from the pond so I went back onto the cement trail that later branched into several paved dirt trails. I followed a couple in front of me in turning left which led me to the beautiful views of DTLA. From the parking lot to this DTLA view, it was ~0.6 miles according to my Apple Watch. Feeling as if this hike was far too short, I decided to continue exploring and chose a random dirt trail to continue walking. I ended up walking around in a loop and got ~2.5 miles in! The reason I subtracted a star and ranked 4/5 is because unfortunately this park does not have any signs to direct you. The views are nice but I wish there was just some guidance. If it wasn't for my Apple Watch, I would have had no idea how many steps I took nor how far I walked. Regarding the Visitor Center--I have no idea where that was and did not happen to see it at all. Overall, nice views! Love the spacious parking, the large picnic table seating area by the parking lot, and the availability of public restrooms. There was just not really any shade on the trail nor any signage or guidance on where to hike. I wouldn't mind returning, though! If you are in the area, I do recommend checking it out! I can only imagine the sunrise and sunset views being gorgeous!!

Beautiful park with trails. If you go up the trail that goes up the big hill you will find a beautiful lake with turtles. this is a beautiful place . This a multipurpose park. You can walk, run, take the dog, and even have a picnic. Beware, a lot of people aren't using masks and often travel in large groups. There is also quite a bit of poop on the trail that is being left by irresponsible dog owners. The inclines on the trails range easy to steep! No matter you're level, you can easily test yourself here. If you're in the area, stop on by. The location offers quite a view of downtown. I recommend either sunset or sunrise.s.
