This will be the third time in the last three months that I've been to The Derby celebrating special occasions, this place does not disappoint. Be prepared, this is an expensive meal and drinks but is worth the price you pay for a meal and the service is exceptional. We requested a special seat by the fireplace and it was lovely and cozy. We all shared a shrimp cocktail for started and it was delicious. I enjoyed the house special, Sea Bass with a side of their delicious cream corn; the Sea Bass is served with broccoli and a potato side but I wanted to try their cream corn which was absolutely delicious.

AMAZING! First time here came last night for a little Birthday dinner with my family. Sara was our waiter and she was beautiful and wonderful, I want to thank you all about the incident my daughter had with her ceaser salad, you all were very respectful, nice and very attentive to my daughter, thank you thank you very much for that. Our dinner, drinks and desserts were divine! Love how all staff works as a team. My family and I appreciate your wonderful service. Thank you Derby and can't wait to come back for a date night!😁

Delicious food, hospitable staff, romantic and warm ambiance, vintage vibes. I love horses and this place really fits the Derby themes. I came in for a dinner date night, and was surprised when I stepped inside. It may look lowkey from the outside, but the interior inside and the dining venues are terrific. Candle lit on every table, decorative horses and horseback racing gears, and a fire place really added to the antique atmosphere. Old-fashioned centurion yet sophisticated. There are plenty of parking, and it’s very easy to navigate. πŸ’―πŸŽπŸ‡πŸ»β€οΈ

Their Dine LA specials of $65-75 are the best. I ordered the Prime Rib with a baked potato, a Caesar salad and a bread pudding. I ate every bit of it. Including 2 slices of their cheese bread on a Sunday 6pm reservation. From the moment we valeted the car, to the last bite of dessert, I was out the door in about an hour 10. Incredible service and food without having to sit forever. Obviously I wasn't being rushed at all. Other people around me were there before and were still there when I left. The prime rib is juicy. It actually tasted better and better the more full I got. Lol. It comes with a small tin of au jus, and another of horse radish. All classics. No weird spin on it. Just how I like it. I wished the baked potato was bigger, but I'm a big eater. My wife did not touch her dessert at all, because she wanted to finish her 8 oz filet mignon, and to her it was a lot of food in-between the salad, steak, and side. Our waitress was attentive and I never had to ask for a refill for drinks, to go box, or anything else. The host that sat is was friendly and introduced us to some interesting facts about the derby that we hadn't known about even tho we had been there many times prior. All in all.

The inside is a little too old and dark for my taste. Our server Bobby was amazing. The food was amazing. I'm not a fan of the wild rice. Mine was a little bit too hard. Everything is al cart. Would I return? Probably not. Beautiful Christmas decor.

Ample free parking with optional valet. Seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time. Food was absolutely excellent. Each entree was well prepared and the portions were great. The only reason this review is 4 stars and nor 5 is because I received a cold cup of coffee and my crabcake was cold as well. But otherwise, a great restaurant that I highly recommend and will definitely return.

Fantastic! Celebrated my brother's birthday! I had the shrimp scampi and filet mignon. The Baked Alaska was excellent! Great choice of wine, great cocktails and most excellent service by all! Martha, our waitress was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We must have asked her a million questions! She had great suggestions and all the meals we ordered including dessert were exceptional! We will definitely be back soon!😁

Today my wife and I went to The Derby to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary also it's our first time at the historic Derby restaurant. We went for Valentines, it was risky because it's the busiest restaurant day of the year. We were so pleasantly surprised, the food, the staff and the ambiance were spot on. We had oysters, Chateau Briand, a wedge salad and Brussel sprouts, all amazing! We opted for the dessert trio, it was a perfect sampling! We even asked the chef to come to our table because we were so impressed! Bravo to this oldie but goodie!!

I've driven by the restaurant many times, and I finally decided to stop by. Since I didn't want a big meal, I sat at the bar, best seats in the house. The service was outstanding, people watching was entertaining, but most of all, you could feel the hospitality from the locals and workers. It almost seemed that everyone knew each other on a first name basis. I had the iceberg salad, sticky ribs, and bread pudding πŸ’― recommend. Will be coming back for a full dinner experience.

We are in town from salt lake and we had wanted to find a local steakhouse that was closer to the nicer side of ambiance and food. We found The Derby. I'll start with the ambiance, it is very nice. Low lit and tastfully decorated. As you walk in they have cabinets off to the side that showcase race track history. The doors have etched glass windows of racehorses as well. The drinks are cutely named after famous racehorses. The menu has at first glance, a variety of meat, seafood, and sides. The first drink we ordered was a mojito, it was delicious. We also ordered the three course meal option. First course we ordered was a Cesar salad and a French onion soup. The Cesar was well done. The French onion soup was very heavily loaded with cheese and hard to puncture through to the soup. The bread that goes on top was not toasted and had become a soggy mess by the time you were able to get to it. The actual soup was ok but laking in onion. Second course was our entrΓ©es. We ordered "The Derby Delight" a filet mignon with garlic mashed and green beans. The sides were good. We got the garlic butter and shaved truffle add ons. The filets were overcooked from what was ordered and everything had a bernaise sauce on it. While it was a good sauce it came on everything, leaving the meal very one note and not much diversity in flavor. The dessert was a choice between bread pudding with a whiskey sauce and an amaretto Cheesecake. The bread pudding was alright the whiskey sauce was delicious. The Cheesecake was extremely dense. I think in experimenting with flavors they should have done a little more testing before serving it. The biggest disappointment was that they topped it all with cool whip. The server we had while very nice, was very green and overwhelmed. Definitely more training before they are on their one would be more beneficial. Overall for the price point the meal was not worth it. The service friendly but lacking and the ambiance very great!

Vintage steakhouse with great atmosphere and food. Service is always impeccable. Would have given 5 stars across the board if a couple of the cocktails we ordered came in the proper glassware.

Food was good, ambience was nice. Service so so. May be the waitress was too busy. We didn’t have utensils and clean plates. She didn’t check if we need refill or anything. She forgot was our special occasion.

I’ve been going to the Derby since I was a little boy. I have so many fond memories of this place. I moved away years ago but was able to go back yesterday with my wife and family. I love their steaks and the baked Alaska is incredible! So much fun

Sitting in an 100-year-old restaurant, you not only feel the history but also taste excellence. We came in on a Friday, ordered prime rib (medium rare), Mike Smith (medium rare), and Clam chowders (cup size). My wife's Mike Smith looked like medium well, and that dented 1 star down. But overall food were excellent. We liked our clam chowders, I liked my prime rib and it's the best ever in my life.

Love, Love, Love! We celebrated my sister's birthday at The Derby. We enjoyed every second there. The atmosphere is warm with a couple of nice fires, memorable and cozy. The staff is superb. The food is great. If you can't take home leftovers you may want to share... Make room for the flaming Baked Alaska experience or share the dessert trio. I can't wait to go back again.

We celebrated a retirement at The Derby and it was the perfect place to do so! Great ambience, terrific food and our server, Spence, was so attentive, I wish I could give him 6 stars. The restaurant itself has the feel of a different era with rich, dark wood, ambient lighting and a great bar area if that's more your style. It was my first time but definitely not the last!

I have been a long time patron of the Derby but felt compelled to provide some feedback on my overall experience this Sunday. I took my brother and sister at 4:30 pm to thank them for helping me with all the recent activities tied to loss of my wife of 40 years. Overall the dinner was very good and would say the server was good. However, my sister ordered a cappuccino towards the end of our meal which was never delivered when check was presented. Instead, I was asked by server if I wanted it added to check. Also, I ordered an entire three course meal to go for my son and he has told me that the French onion soup was not included. Honestly, I would expect a little more attention to detail after paying $450 for dinner tonight!

Really good food with a very nice wait staff. Sits right next to the Embassy Suites, so very convenient. Steaks were very good and the soups incredible. Prices were acceptable for the quality of food and the cost of eating out. I ate in the bar both nights. First come, first served there.

Food was good, staff was friendly and attentive. Nice decor. I didn't take a picture of their horse racing memorabilia up front, but that was interesting. If you're the type to always be hungry though, you might wanna consider other options in the area. This place is more of a sit down to chat slowly ordeal --although it's just let enough to hear the conversation at the next over table, but not your own pretty well. Expect to wait for your food. When you drive in, the valet guys will give you a choice to either park your own car, or have them do it. Pro-tip: Book with the restaurant directly. Don't bother making reservations on other sites. That seems to be their priority seating. We used OpenTable, made the appointment for 7:30pm, and still waited 30 minutes to be seated.

Best old school steak house! Excellent service, an art that has all but disappeared at most other restaurants. Highly recommend it. Make a reservation.

First timer for The Derby, went there as a Plan B because I had reservations elsewhere but didnt work out. I had a different impression of what The Derby would be and boy was I wrong, it was really nice. I loved the atmosphere, our server was amazing, the starter, wine, meal, and dessert were all fantastic, probably the best meal I've ever had.

Enjoyed The Derby for the first time, celebrating my wife’s Birthday and experienced not only great food and service, but a lot of history and horse racing culture as well. May it be around for the next 100 years!
