Absolutely amazing. This restaurant is inside a grotto. It's got thousands of years of history and passion. This place is magical. The food is delicious and very traditional. Here you can taste the many flavors and texture of the typical ingredients of the Mexican cuisine. This outstanding place is located near the Teotihuacan pyramids making something transforming your experience into a real trip back in time.

Absolutely loved it. Dinning in a cave in candlelight. Place is clean, beautiful, staff amazing and tell you the story of the cave. Food is yummy, from the appetizers to the deserts. Wonderful experience worth the long drive.

Food really has to be much better for the price. I would still go just for the cool factor. The place really is beautiful. The service is some of the best. However, it being so pricey, the food was not even mediocre. Only the Guacamole is good, which is to say as good as you could really get anywhere in the city.

Everything was tasty, it's a must to come by and visit this restaurant inside of a cave. Very unique setting and staff was very polite. Service was a bit slow but the taste made it very much worth it. We had the chicken mole and it was Devine. I made two micheladas especial and they were so good I needed to have another one. The salsas were also very delicious. I enjoyed my time here. At the end of the meal, the waiter brought over a candle, and explained a quick story. To end the event, every party is instructed to put the candle at the top of a small stairway.

This had been a bucket list item for a while and I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance was absolutely amazing. And the food was absolutely delicious. I had an horchata cocktail which was one of the best beverages I have ever had. The tortilla soup is the best. Guacamole was good. And the Barbacoa was amazing. I loved everything about this place. And the bonus was being able to walk over to the view the pyramids after lunch.

Food: amazing, location: unique. Definitely worth the detour - nice cold temperature in the cave, perfect after walk in scorching sun. Try unique tastes like escamoles. Service could be better, as a single guest felt left alone, had to ask many times before someone came.

Desires to dine here on a whim, will get you a waiting time that may not be very likable for some. It was an hour plus before we were seated.Reserve your table. I suspect this place is always packed. Food was ok, service was good. We'll definitely make reservations next time. It's the perfect place to chill and wind down.Overall, an enjoyable experience.

An amazing restaurant set in a cave, a short walk from the teotihuacan pyramids. The food tastes absolutely amazing. The service is fast and friendly. It is pricey by Mexican standards, but given its location, setting and high quality food, it’s great value for money. I’d happy return here again

It is smaller than the internet pictures, but is really affordable I am shocked about it. And the portions are quiet big, I was really impressed, and the flavor wasn't something to due for, but it was good. Great service, the music transports you to prehiapanic era. A lovely place, highly recommended. I didn't have to book a table, I went really early but once I went out, I saw some families making a queue to go in.

Amazing! So beautiful so unique I mean you are in a cave people! Food is amazing! Prices are very fair and the service is the kindest! Chicken fajitas were delicious and those in the party who had grasshoppers loved them!! Drinks very yummy and they have a variety of choices. Very big space and very clean bathrooms. You do have to go down stairs there are railings. And at the end you get a little history on the place and some candles to place on another set of stairs! So pretty! Highly recommended.

Walking to this place from the pyramids was easy. Google Maps gave detailed directions. The guacamole is a must order. Holy guacamole that was the best I've ever had. The goat was just okay. The service was exceptional. The atmosphere was jaw dropping. I mean you're in a cave! We came during the summer in June, but the place was cool.

Food was touristy not great pricing. Beer served in hot glass. Soup served cold. The atmosphere is really cool. Sauces were good. Only steak on the menu was flank steak at NY strip prices

Such an incredibly unique spot for lunch after a morning wandering the Teotihuacan pyramids. The cave looks amazing and is incredible to eat lunch in. The service we had was fast, efficient and very professional, with great care taken on the food we had also. We left very satisfied. Recommend taking a jacket as it’s quite cool on the cave floor.

The mole was pretty decent. The experience is interesting of course since you’re eating in a CAVE. The service sucked and the wait is long! However, the one thing that wrapped this up into a high rating was this “end of meal” ritual that they have. Basically taking a candle over to the god of new beginnings/forgiveness. It was beautiful to do this with my new half-brother that I had just met. Really made the entire experience worthwhile! Don’t think I would go again though. The servers were terrible, and the food was not impressive

This is an absolute MUST SEE if you’re in the area. Super unique menu and delicious food! They bring a candle to the table for you to leave as an offering at the end of your meal. Really cool experience.

La gruta is such a beautiful and unique restaurant. Dining in a cave is such a memorable experience. The wait can be long if you want to seat in the cave but they also have tables on the upper level where you can most likely get seated right away. They also have dance shows that make the whole experience even better. The menu is quite interesting but unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our main dishes that much. Appetizers and salad were really good as well as The drinks. Also, be sure to ask your waiter about the legend of the cave. Unfortunately, Our waiter didn’t tell us anything about it.

Restaurant in a half open cave - really unique experience! It's only a few minutes drive from the Pyramids, and seems the best option in terms of experience in comparison to other dining options in the area. The food is very good and staff speaks very good English. There was also a small performance when I was there, some dances and music by locals with costume from ancient times.

La Gruta has a nature environment with all the rocks and how you get immersed into the cave by the stone stairs. Their Covid-19 safety protocols are temperatures checks, wearing a mask, hand washing, hand sanitizer, distance between tables, they clean the table before you seat, put a new tablecloth, silverware comes in a plastic bag with one napkin, waiters wear gloves. The staff at the entrance was polite giving a welcoming experience, but the waiter we had ruined it all, he had a very rude attitude, he offered drinks they didn't had available, we asked for water and waited for about 10 minutes, we asked for water to a different waiter and he came back in less than a minute. When we were asking for some specific items on the menu, mostly because of allergy reasons, he said it was tasty or that it would take more than 20 minutes to make or that it was a Mexican dish. The food was ok, the consome a bit too spicy. It took long time to get the check and longer for him to bring the terminal. At the end they give you a tiny candle to put on the rocks. The cost is not to bad but a bit high, be prepared to pay at least 200 pesos per person. I would say that the managers should pay attention to this waiter performance, as it changed my good experience at the entrance of the place, to a not enjoyable experience at all.

Delicious food and an amazing location. It's a must to eat here if you go to the pyramids. Call ahead and get a reservation if you can or simply show up and wait for a bit. Also, be adventurous...try some grasshoppers or some cactus worms.

Such a cool experience to eat in a cave! I have a lot to say but the overall thing is that the food is great. Be warned, there are quite a few bees in the morning so if you order sweet items (or near someone with sweet items), they’ll be flying by you. The coffee was great and some of the best that I’ve had! The bread was also good but we got charged a different amount then we thought when they ran out of the bread we originally wanted. Our waiter was super nice and told us the history of the place. Would love to come back and do it again!

The location is brilliant and exceptional in its uniqueness. It is not to be missed, but it is a tourist focused venue. You will not find any locals dining at this place. The food is very good, though pricey, good selection of mezcal and tequila - but the venue is why you go after a long day hiking the pyramids.

I mean, don’t go to this place if you’re looking for amazing food. We ordered the chilaquiles with chicken and the chicken was super dry and cold. They have an uncommon grasshopper dish that was not bad but lacking. Honestly this is the nicest place to eat within a few miles radius of Teotihuacan and the venue itself is in a bloody cave so just enjoy the scenery and decent food.

We came for the day of the dead. View is amazing. Decorations are great. Food was just regular and nothing special. Service definitely needs to improve. They have a lot of staff that just standing around and doing nothing. One time visit is enough.

We dined in this restaurant after visiting the ruins of Teotihuacán. Coming here is something people usually do after visiting the ruins. This place is very beautiful. However, their service was not good at all. We had to wait forever to ask the server to bring out the check and then wait for the check and then wait to pay, that took about 30 minutes. The food was mediocre. I had better food in my visit of the Mercado. This place is pretty much a tourist trap.

The restaurant is under a cave It serves traditional Mexican food and the atmosphere is very awesome. The taco is served with the bag to keep it warm. Chicharron here is the best I’ve tried.

Loved this place! It was an amazing experience to dine in the cave. We had forgotten to book but you can just turn up. We only waited for 5 minutes and ate around 12.30pm. The food was good, not groundbreaking but still good. We lit a candle at the end and placed it inside the cave which was a lovely touch to end the lunch. We would recommend to go after visiting Teotihuacán! Not far at all. You can re-enter Teotihuacán after lunch if you keep your ticket.

My partner and I went to eat here after a morning of walking around Teotihuacán. The wait wasn't too long, and it was nice sitting under the shade while we waited. The food was great and the waiters were so attentive. We had sopes for an appetizer, Barbacoa, and Arrachera a Las Brasas (our favorite).

Seriously the coolest restaurant we've been to! They have a unique menu of traditional Mexican foods and snacks. It's a great place to stop for lunch after the pyramids. The prices aren't too crazy for this experience; they're definitely tourist prices though. We booked our seats in advance just in case and if you're going in peak season, I would highly recommend doing the same. The restaurant itself is pretty cool to explore as well, so I would recommend looking around after eating! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different.

The ambience is amazing! But the food is bad. I mean, it's really bad. Can't imagine how someone could even prepare food this bad. The experience was good, though. So, it was worth the visit. But, I'm never going back again.

A nice restaurant with a great atmosphere and service. Although getting to the location is not a straightforward process due to the miriad persons trying to lure you to other restaurants along the way, it is well worth it. The facilities are top notch and the COVID safety protocol is one of the best I have seen so far (remember I'm a doctor when you read this, this is high praise), but with a warmth and attention that reminded me I was not in a hospital. The food is good. It is well prepared, well plated, and tasty. They even have a great tasting plate for foreigners so they can sample the main Mexican food dishes they offer. But you didn't really come here for the food, did you? The ambiance is GREAT! Everything from the decoration to the lighting to the music, they all blend in great to remind you you are in a cavern just outside a major pre-columbian ceremonial center. Even the birthday ceremony is done with a traditional conch, even if it does have a modern sparkler. And they have a ritual they invite you to perform when you get the check, although I won't spoil it here. And, if you're a photo buff, bring your gear, this place is definitely a great snap spot. All in all, very much recommended for foreigners and locals alike. You won't regret it.

(Translated by Google) Bad place, just because of the product since the service was always friendly and attentive, waiting 45 minutes for the preparation of a couple of chilaquiles, which after the wait arrive cold, without salt, and with a very small portion of meat (Obviously I was not expecting half a kilo of meat) but I speak without exaggeration that they served me 3 strips of flank steak that barely reached 100 grams in total, to that we add the burnt and cold coffee, for the coffee they give tablespoons, which are expected to be used for your food. What is redeemable would be the care they take to the security regulations with respect to the pandemic and the service of both waiters and captains, always attentive and willing to help, in terms of product, they leave a terrible taste in the mouth.

(Translated by Google) It is the traditional place par excellence. Hygiene measures are extraordinary, they really strive to ensure that everything is sanitized, down to the last detail. Outside, unfortunately, as in all of Mexico, the locals try to make you not go, they deceive you that only with a prior reservation you enter and they invent a thousand things to lead the diner elsewhere, they lie, it is not mandatory to have an appointment, although who takes it will always have priority. . The place is focused on tourism and consequently the typical dishes are expensive and the seasoning is not extraordinary, but the experience of knowing the place is interesting. The kindness in the service is notorious.

La Gruta was the best restaurant ever! The experience was absolutely amazing and I will not say “once in a lifetime” because we will DEFINITELY be back! The candle lighting was an amazing ceremony as well! I feel the food was amazing and I highly recommend the turkey mole plate! Absolutely delicious and SO flavorful! I can’t wait to come back and totally pig out again! Eating inside of a cave was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Love it!!!

Beautiful place, I been there 4 times and would go back each time I am in México city. The best! Worth the wait time.

Came in here for a drink and were told that we had to order food in order to have one drink each...fine. We ordered guacamole which looked and tasted good, but left so much of it because none of us was hungry. What a waste of food, time and money. The drinks were good, but not stellar good. We can't speak on the other dishes, but they looked good when waiters passed by with them for other tables. The waitress we had lacked personality and spoke in a monotone voice when she shared what seemed like a script. It was painful to hear and watch. Meh! The highlight is definitely the location and the atmosphere. It is just lovely and it felt great after being in the hot sun for over 6 hours. We will definitely be going back for another try.

Great place the restaurant is located inside a cave and that alone gives it a beautiful view. The food was amazing had the flautas and the pan de elote freshly made. The Tamarindo drink was great but a bit sweet. Wonderful place to visit if you are heading to the pirámides.

Wonderful place, typical mexican food, super gentle waiters, fast and high quality service. Note: it's a very requested place, reservation can only be done when you arrive there, possible waiting time before being able to enter.

Very nice restaurant and experience. Ricardo was super attentive and friendly. Quick and professional service. Food was very nice tasting and high quality. Bathrooms were exceptionally clean and tidy. Prices are a bit too high.

Myself and business colleagues had a great late lunch here. Shared starter of pig skin and guacamole was great, my meatballs in tomatoes sauce were fantastic and my colleagues steaks were polished off quickly. Great atmosphere in the cave and service was ok given how busy they were due to the rain.

Pros: Gorgeous and unique location - this is worth going alone. It’s cool (nice relief from the sunny pyramids), gorgeous and very sanitary inside. Service is friendly. Cons: no bathroom (?!), and the food is very mediocre. Very limited vegetarian options - tried the quesadillas (lukewarm and bland), corn soup (corn was very tough) and guacamole (this was good). I’d recommend just getting drinks and guac.

This place is a must go when in Mexico. We went to see the pyramids and on the way out stopped at this restaurant inside a cave! The food is AMAZING! Anything you order is so delicious! The atmosphere is indescribable. The staff is great and overall an unforgettable experience. Thank you La Gruta!

This place is a great experience but you need to come with an open mind on food. I would not call this Mexican food but more indigenous inspired. The chicken mole and the green mole were both absolutely delicious! The serve homemade corn tortillas so you can make little tacos if you want. We also ordered the molecajete and corn soup, both of which were not impressive. The salsas they provide are also yummy. The dessert was a chocolate like cake with guava ice cream. This was so light, complex in flavor and a nice surprise.

1000% Mexican! Very authentic Mexican food in a super unique surrounding. The restaurant is located in a huge cave close to Teotihuacan pyramids. It's a legendary place where former rulers used to come and pray for the rain. Drum music reminds today about these times. A table booking is recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I thought it would be a gimmicky tourist attraction but I was wrong! A friend from Mexico City told me not to skip it, I’m glad I didn’t . The food was great! Drinks were delicious, tortillas were fresh hand made and the myth was neat.

This place has an amazing vibe and a cool story behind it. The food was good. The service was great, I ordered beef fajitas, and even though they didn't have it on the menu, they made it for me.

Excellent food with exotic dishes like the "chapulines" and egg's ants. The "Mole de la Gruta" dish was amazing! Very beautiful cave and okay service. Really recommend this place if you want to have a nice and different experience!

This restaurant is absolutely stunning even for this second time I've been. I've been here before for their entrees which were underwhelming so this time we went for drinks and appetizers which was perfect. Starting with the cocktails, the horchata cocktail and the prickly pear margarita on the rocks were excellent. The blended mango Margarita was too much like a smoothie. The guacamole with chicharorrones and the turkey and cricket sopes were also delicious as appetizers.

This place was always in my wishlist and finally I got a chance to go visit and eat there. Eating inside the cave was really a nice experience. We went to this place in the weekdays and there was waiting time of 15 minutes. The food we ordered was delicious and I really enjoyed the soup and the fresh colorful homemade tortillas. The star of the restaurant is their chocolate lava cake with guava ice cream dessert. The staff is really helpful. Service was kind of slow. Highly recommended!

Great for Carnivores, not so good for veggies and vegans - only one main choice which for committed veggies is not a choice at all. For meat eaters there is plenty of choice including more unusual options such as caterpillars or grasshoppers. Situated inside a cave it's definitely atmospheric and the staff were fast and friendly. Recommended.

This place has interesting, romantic, charming atmosphere. You are having your meal right inside the cave so it really worse it. You need to wait a little bit because it a lot of tourist here and everyone wants to visit it. The food was good (not really spicy what's unusual for Mexico), service could be more faster but overall it was good. Prepare your wallet because it's a pricey place but you should visit it. In the end of your meal you can put a candle inside the cave, very interesting tradition which is kinda cool. Recommended!

The ambience and location is beautiful! Very Serene peaceful and quiet. A very lovely place to go for a meal while seeing the ruins. The good itself was okay, a little lacking in flavor but good.

We heard about this place thanks to our guide. The localisation of the restaurant is very amazing. You have to wait to get a table but everything is smoothly manage to offer you a quick wait. When you are sit at your table, your waiter takes time to share with you the legend of the place and how it works. Our very bad mark is about the food. We took different dishes (four) to try and none of us were satisfy. The quality could be better and the price are very expensive.
