This museum did not have any history of Mexico City and seemed to have exhibits that did not tie together at all, including portraits, architecture, maps etc. Also for English speakers, signs/information was in Spanish only.

(Translated by Google) Coming from CDMX, take the highway to Valle de Bravo and then take the freeway that goes through the Nevado. It has parking that costs $ 40 and some services. Access to the sanctuary costs $ 70 and if you wish you can go on horseback, the price per horse is $ 250 which includes the guide. The recommendation is to go early so that they can see the butterflies for as long as possible since when they begin to fill up they allow a few minutes and you cannot admire the detachments in detail. Another recommendation would be to go during the week when it is quieter. In general my experience was good, it is one of the places with fewer people and it is well cared for.

A fascinating sprawling building, with excellent temporary exhibits of contemporary art and architecture. The various courtyards seem to be everywhere, we managed to see the model workshop and were shown photos of the final layouts of the vast and intricate miniatures.

Beautiful building, free tour in English at 1 pm (ask… they didn’t offer the info), history and art installations. Spent under 2 hours.

It's a small but very purposeful museum. It is focused on the pre and post colonial architectural and infrastructure history of the Mexico City. I wish somebody told me to come here as the first thing to do in CDMX because it really helps to see the city from a better perspective before visiting other museums and monuments. Definitely the first place to visit.

Monarch Butterfly! Great place for viewing. Knowledgeable guide. Steep climb. A real wonder to consider how these insects do what they do. Definitely worth a visit. Limited viewing time.

Nice exhibits, poor signage. I would not visit again, but would recommend looking at it. It was unclear where you could and could not go. Museum is air conditioned. No gift shop, but there is an attached bookstore that sells only books.

(Translated by Google) The museum is a treasure in the city. There is a neon light display worthwhile and the tour is short, but interesting. Some exhibitions are temporary and have very good facilities. Don't forget to go up to the top floor where the painter Joaquín Clausell's studio is.

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. There were butterflies everywhere. We couldn’t go all the way to the top of the mountain because it was close to the public. But we were still able to see thousands of butterflies all over the place. Our guide was very friendly and informative. And she told us that the best time to see the butterflies is around noon and up, when it’s nice and sunny, that’s when the butterflies start flying. It took us about an hour to reach the point where we could watch the spectacle. And oh boy, I surely regretted not getting a horse. I’m in very good shape, however; going up the hill is super tough, I’m guessing because of the altitude, it was much tougher than I thought it was going to be. Wear comfortable shoes. And don’t forget to tip your guide.

This place is very cool, but they made us walk in a group with people of very different skill levels. 70 pesos per adult to get in; 200 to rent a horse that takes you only so far then you have to walk the rest. We walked the whole thing. A bit steep but doable. Also the butterflies might not be awake if you go too early depending on the weather and heat. I was excited to be able to warm life into some butterflies. We did not have great luck with our taxi driver. Through midcommunication we thought he wanted 500 total to drive roundtrip from Valle and wait 2 hours. Turns out he wanted 700. The drive back was the most amazing as we drove through swarms of butterflies!

The building itself is worthy of an attraction in itself, that said, there are always awesome exhibits on display here. The best without a doubt while not putting down any of the artists on display at the moment would be the light show they have is one of a kind. The artist they have on showing is just a bonus, really take your time on this one!

There is a little gem inside the building which is Clausel’s studio, the most important impressionist painter of Mexico. Also the corner stone of the right side of the building outside has been taken from an Aztec monument!

Very good, if you are interested in local history ....of any place. They use paintings from each period to describe the class issues of that time , in Mexico City. We thought it was an excellent local history museum. (And we have visited several, all over North America and Europe). They let the artists of different eras tell their versions of the story.

(Translated by Google) The building is very beautiful, there is also enough space for people to walk without colliding. There is a dark room where there is a neon light show approximately every 15 minutes or half an hour. It also has a bookstore and souvenir shop. The rooms are very spacious and bright. Likewise, there is a tourist guide who can guide you and give an explanation of the tour for free. The main theme of this museum is Mexico City, its history, hydrography, etc.

Beautiful museum it has tons and tons of historical artifacts from ancient Latin American history. There's a lot to do at the museum there is multiple floors with tons of different areas to visit and see. There's a lot to do outdoors. Make sure to bring some snacks and bottled water the cost isn't too much. It's a good place to go and learn about mesoamerica. There's tons of artifacts too many account and remember there's so much to do and see here you'll have a great time.

Really not much to see here. I was expecting to learn about the history of the city, but it was just a collection of somewhat random, unexplained exhibits.

Disappointing - random exhibits that didn't really connect to the theme of Mexico DF. This art could have been any place in the country. Some exhibits were closed off, too. I did like the exhibit with abstract pictures of books though. That artist is creative. It was 38 pesos

A nice hike in the forest, entrance fee is average. But be sure to get there during the week because it's getting very crowded during the weekend (you then wait in line for a long time in the packed small path). You can hire a horse for the first half of the way. But it's advised to be in good physical condition to make the trip. Best time to visit is on a sunny day around noon. You will only get 15 minutes at the top spot to admire the butterflies so get your camera ready!

Went 30th of December at 1pm only to arrive in front of a closed gate. Disappointed not be able to see the mariposas. We asked around and the locals said it's closed.

  • 3/5 Nicolas L. 4 years ago on Google
Beware only a small distance with paved road, the rest is all dirt road, climate will be a very big issue to see the butterflies, if it's cold, don't waste your time climbing to the top, there will be nothing to see. The climbing is quite stiff, and riding a horse is recommended if you're not the walking type (last 20 min are the most difficult and horses can't cross it). It will take around 1 hour of walking to get to the sanctuary, and about 30-40 min on the way back

  • 5/5 Felippe L. 5 years ago on Google
Prepare yourself to see an unique moment from these amazing butterflies. It is a nice hiking to the top of the mountain (approx 60min - went with my 4 year old boy, so can take less than that) to check out them flying just over your head. Bring some extra water and some snacks to regain energy while you go to the top! Cheap and clean, must visit

  • 5/5 Julio N. 3 years ago on Google

(Translated by Google) Getting there is easy and simple from Toluca or CDMX, you take the road that goes towards Nevado de Toluca and from there you continue to Valle de Bravo by free. The average travel time is 2 hours from CDMX. The day I went I did not have to see the Monarch Butterfly in its splendor, because it was a cloudy day and they tell me that there must be sun so they can come out and fly continuously. The place is fine to visit once, if not because of the Monarch Butterfly they don't have anything outstanding to offer. They have bathrooms with a cost of 5 pesos, general parking 40 pesos, either motorcycle or car, and the entrance fee is 60 pesos. The cost to go up on horseback is 250 pesos round trip. Go up slowly if you do not have good condition, at your own pace, since sometimes they want to rush you to go down quickly and climb a new group. Wear comfortable clothes, you will sweat. It also brings water, since during the journey and upstairs there is nothing to buy, downstairs at the beginning there is to eat the classics of these places and drink water, soda or beer. Date of visit: Saturday, January 23, 2021. Lleva ropa cómoda, vas a sudar.

If not, they'll just leave you on the edge of the sanctuary and you won't really be able to see much. The walking route is steep. An interesting museum housing a small collection. The curators seem to have a love for the city that is expressed with a sense of humor. My favorite gallery had photos of city residents and told their stories.

Don’t bother. Just a few exhibits open. Entire first floor closed. One exhibit is s huge disgusting paintings of naked women. Some other art. And a few maps. Everything else is closed. Guess they’re renovating. But they still charge you admission.

Visited during the middle of the day and stayed for over an hour. I was underwhelmed by the history displays on the first floor, however, the parts I enjoyed more were the art exhibits on the upper floors. The room I enjoyed the most was the public drawing area! Being able to see unique drawings by adults, children, friends, strangers on dates, etc, was absolutely charming and filled me with sonder. I spent most on my time there looking through all of the provided paper.

I had a disappointing experience at this museum. It seems to have a lot of space for exhibitions, but there were only two small temporary shows on view. The shows weren't bad, but they didn't seem to have a close relationship to CDMX or its history. The building itself isn't very special, either. If you're in this area, you're better off seeing the Biblioteca Miguel Lerdo de Tejada and the nearby Museo de la Canceleria.

Not what we expected. Would not prioritize if you have limited time. We had come from Templo Mayor which was amazing.
