Free entry on Sunday! Some good Orozco and Rivera as well as several other great artists.. There are 4 rooms with art inside the building and sculpture garden surrounding it. Entrance is from the street side, not the park side. PS: stand in the middle of the stairs and say something for a fun sound experience

I throughly enjoyed my time at this moma, an afternoon well spent. I visited on a Sunday so admission was free. I found both the interior architecture and the art to be compelling. The scope of the featured exhibitions was enough to be filling without overwhelming. It took me less than a few hours to make my rounds. I especially appreciated the exhibition on the history of feminist artistic work in Mexico. I know Mexico City offers so much artistic inspiration, but this museum is definitely worth a visit.

Good museum of modern art, with temporary exhibitions and sculptures garden. Ticket costs 90 pesos but they accept cash only.

Great museum with a small, but well curated, collection, it took me about an hour and a half to go through the exhibits. The layout of the main gallery is rather nice, with a circular center and wings radiating from it. They allow non-flash photography.

Full of modern art treasures with paintings from Orozco, Siqueiros and Frieda Kahlo. They have and entire section dedicated to Diego Rivera that features some of his portraits and his work from his visit to the Soviet Union. Another domed area has a large mural by Ruffino Tamayo. Upstairs was a section dedicated to Remedios Varo, but I don't know if it is permanent. There is a large sculpture garden outside.

Amazing collection of art. And the exhibition of Emma Hurtado and Diego Rivera is a great look into their lives. And to see so many paintings by Diego. Incredible. The Museum has a nice architecture. And Sunday’s free entry. Also the exhibition of Remedios Barios. One of the key female Mexican surrealists. Two thumbs up.

I would suggest starting with mapping out the park behind it. That way on your visit you can look around there too. On Wednesday they set up booths. The exhibits were very nicely curated. Diego had quite a few pieces I never seen or knew about. It was very nice to see. Would highly recommend if you’re into the arts.

I went on a Friday and the entrance was free so I am not sure about buying tickets in advance or how that works so that was an upside; the museum was had great pieces too look at and admire. The staff was very helpful as well incase you get lost or need to find a WC they would point you into the right direction. I recommend seeing the museum if you have time and are into art. These are some pieces I found interesting and liked.

When we visited there were only two salons open, and a small fraction of the gardens. A little disappointing, hopefully when you read this it’s more open. What I saw was very intriguing and thought provoking. A very cool exhibition documenting the period of 1975 to 1995 - there was a massive earthquake in CDMX in ‘85 which wiped out thousands of buildings in the city and had a major impact on the art of the era. I also saw a fabulous exhibit which contextualized the current COVID-19 pandemic with other works of other modern periods of change and upheaval. A very well thought out and timely project which I hope other galleries attempt elsewhere. The building itself is very cool, with a wonderful domed ceiling. I’ve posted some highlights of my visit to this review. I recommend the museum. Current state budget 90mins max for your visit, we did ours in about 60.

Love this place! I went twice during my stay in Mexico City. Every wing and the outside sculpture garden were inspirational. This museum gave me a great insight into Mexican thought. What a great culture.

A great museum to admire many different things. Normally, not all the rooms are open and they constantly have new options. In 2020, as many public places, it suffered from closing dates, but if you have the chance to visit it, you will not regret for the time you spent there. By the way, it is free.

Beautiful modern art museum in bosque Chapultepec with variety of exhibits and a nice garden. Guides on the second floor offered to walk me around and chat about the pieces while giving me an individualized tour. Admission is 80 pesos, cash only. ATM at BBVA down the street.

(Translated by Google) I love him. Great, amazing, wonderful. It was a delight to walk alone and spend hours there. I miss him so much. I entered the Remedios Varo exhibition twice and it would have been three times or more if I hadn't started working. I adore this place: decoration, architectural style, dedication to its exhibitions, love of art, discounts for students, retirees and people with disabilities, excellent location. One of my dreams is to return when the health crisis passes. (Original) Lo amo.

One of them must-see museums in Mexico City. Small in size, at this time (May 2023) only half of the exhibition space is open and of that open space a big part holds a “contemporary” art exhibition rather than a “modernist” one, altering the nature of the museum. The architecture of the building is a fine one, from the modernist trends of the early 60s. The experience of the visit is ruined by the bad temper of the staff, specially the security guards who are in plain clothes, without a badge.

Fantastic museum for modern art. Beautiful collections of photographs, paintings, and sculptures. Admission is free on Sundays, but that also means there will be more people. Plan to spend an hour to an hour and a half here. Many signs are in English as well if you are visiting and don’t read Spanish.

We had a wonderful time discussing art with our six year old! I appreciate the thoughtfulness that clearly goes into each exhibit, and the size of the museum is perfect, big enough to experience lots of amazing art but not so big that you get lost or overwhelmed. Can’t wait to come back.

The best museum that I’ve ever been. Stunning artefact collection, great recreations and expositions too. So much history under one roof! You should plan at least one afternoon to be able to see it all. The gardens were also very well made and maintained. The fountain and the modern architecture of the building were very impressive as well. Highly recommend!

They’re under construction and only had one exhibit open during our visit. Even the sculpture garden was closed which was a bummer. The gift shop was a little cart outside before you enter the museum (I assume because of the construction). If you’re a teacher, student, or senior, you get free admission.

Due to covid only one room operational. But even when no covid, and as with all other contemporary art museums in town, the quality of its exhibitions varies a lot. It has a nice sculpture garden, and the building itself is of interest as well.

I hate to post a negative review of a museum, but this didn't quite live up to expectations. The museum is relatively small, with four (large) single room exhibitions open when we attended. The sculpture walk outside is nice and some of the exhibits were interesting. Due to its small size and small number of very specific exhibits it was a little disappointing. Tickets are currently 80 peso (July 2022) and free on Sundays.

Went to see the Two Frida's and a Brutalism exhibit. Wish there were more English captions, but otherwise quite interesting.

  • 2/5 Dean M. 1 month ago on Google • 158 reviews New
Quite possibly the worst value in Mexico City at the moment. Three quarters of the museum is closed for new installations and most of the part that is open is dedicated to the horrific idea that Brutalism architecture is and should be revived in Mexico right now. I weep for this otherwise beautiful country. Despite very little being displayed, the price is still a very high 90 pesos. There are about 10 paintings on display, including, at least, the one Frida everyone wants to see. The most engaging thing I saw during my visit was a squirrel posing in the sculpture garden, which at least was open and has some interesting pieces.

A nice museum surrounded by a garden full of art. It isn't a huge museum, but there are many interesting pieces. There are a few sky lights in this building, which is nice and the rooms had a nice layout. Sadly, one room was closed, and I can only assume that it is due to a change of exhibition. I enjoyed my time here as there were many artists that I am familiar with, so it was great to see some of their other work. I have discovered new artists that I would also like to see more of. I would visit again. I highly recommend the gardens and surrounding parks on a nice day. 85 pesos during the week and free on Sunday. Gift shop. Cloakroom was free of charge.

Must see museum on the eastern edge of Bosque de Chapultepec. I went on Sunday when entry is free. It was not at all crowded upon opening or during the 90 minutes of my stay there. Lots to see and enjoy and contemplate. I was surprised to be as captivated as I was with the volcanos exhibit. Volcanoes, both active and dormant, play a significant role in the Mexican psyche. The idea that nature can be both destructive and nurturing as well as unpredictable. Seismic activity accounts for much devastation in the distant past as well as in more recent history. During my stay the city conducted a seismic alert/readiness test as they do annually to keep the public aware of the threat and how to stay safe when the next one strikes. In addition to the many striking exhibits the building itself is also beautiful and adds to the aesthetic appeal of the entire experience.

Potentially good museum, but run in a terrible way. Pros: some good art, interesting exhibitions, intriguing building. Cons: no map of the layout, no guide for non Spanish speakers, cafe closes long before the museum does (and is only a small cart), staff prevent you going into exhibit rooms from about 15 mins before closing, staff treat you more like a nuisance than like paying customers. Don't go after mid afternoon - you'll get all the bad bits but still have to pay full price.

(Update - temporary closure?) 5 stars for the quality of this museum and its collection. I love getting lost here, it is small enough that you can get through in about 2 hours but the collection is really good. However (week of Nov. 13, 2023) the museum appears temporarily closed, with signs at the gates indicating a protest against museum administration. It would do good for the museum to acknowledge the closure and note they are temporarily closed on their listing so that visitors don't come expecting to be able to visit.

Nice little museum where you can see Frida Kahlo's Two Fridas as well as a range of works by Mexican artists such as Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Castro Leñero. Nicely curated collections, easily digestible size. They don't take card payment however, so make sure you have enough cash for tickets.

Spectacular examples of Mexican artists such as Remedios Varo and photographer Manuel Alvarez Bravo. We saw a fascinating exhibit on gender and culture in Mexico. The building itself is worth a visit, especially the domed ceiling.

Art is always subjective, depends what you like. I expected a bit more versatile exposition. Also be aware that you do not check out your bag before you go to the garden. Nobody mentioned it to me so i went out with my bag and the security guard would not let me go to the garden. So i skipped the garden because it was stupid, like i would steal the multiple ton sculptures with my bag.

It's an incredible museum, the staff id very kind and attentive, they help you if you get lost. It's free entrance with student's and professors ID but only for mexicans, it's a crowded place specially on weekends, there's a lot of people attending here. There are temporal exposition and permanent ones, the place is no bag entry but it is safe to leave it with the staff and there are lots of places around to eat.

Its not going to impress you tremendously because it is somewhat small and I think a lot of the art although modern in age has a more vintage style to them. I don't know enough about art to truly say but thats just my opinion. Worth checking out once- hit it up when you make your way back from Castillo Chapultepec.

Wonderful experience of modern art in the Museum in Chapultepec Park in Mexico City. It is situated at the very entrance of the park, on the right from Patria Altar. The entrance costs 70 pesos qith discounts for students, elderly and kids go free. The museum has 2 parts. Outside, in the green area around the building you can find set of curious sculptures and mind games. Inside you have 4 big rooms with expositions of photos, sculptures, paintings and more. One of the room, which is very interactive for the youngest visitors, has one of the most known painings of Frida Khalo 'Dos Fridas'. It is a great experience and from my point of view, very recommended.
