We came in on a Thursday night and there was no wait for a table for 5. We started with calamari (ok, overcooked and chewy) and Tom yum soup with shrimp, it was good. Papaya salad add crab was soo good, a great assortment of veggies and tang. My favorites we're seafood eggplant, pad see ew, and pad Thai. Dessert was mango sticky rice which was too sweet for my taste, it was overly sweet and mango was ok sweetness wise. Service was busy with to go orders, understandable but it was hard to flag them down for extra things.

They said it’s the best pad Thai in town. YES!! If you like Thai food try their dessert and milk tea. No regrets. The host is super friendly and I can tell his very confident about his food and ingredients which he should be! I don’t live near but will definitely revisit again and again if I can!

A Taste of Thai Authenticity in San Mateo Bangkok Patio Restaurant is a culinary gem that has earned its place as one of my all-time favorite dining destinations. Nestled in the heart of San Mateo, this establishment has managed to bring the rich, vibrant flavors of Thai cuisine to California, and it does so with an authenticity and flair that is second to none. Having been a regular patron for years, I've had the privilege of indulging in a wide array of dishes, each one consistently outstanding in flavor, freshness, and presentation. On my latest visit, I opted for the Pineapple Fried Rice and a delightful dish of Ginger with Fresh Veggies. Both were simply exquisite. The Pineapple Fried Rice was a harmonious blend of sweet and savory, with perfectly cooked rice, succulent pineapple chunks, and well-seasoned proteins. The Ginger with Fresh Veggies was a tantalizing affair of crisp vegetables and the invigorating kick of fresh ginger. Every bite was a reminder of why I keep coming back. The ambiance of Bangkok Patio complements the food perfectly, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. The staff and their hospitality are an integral part of what makes this place special. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with genuine smiles and attentive service, creating an environment that feels both welcoming and intimate. One word of advice for fellow diners is to call and verify the restaurant's hours before visiting, as they may vary from what is posted online. This minor inconvenience, however, does not detract from the overall excellence of Bangkok Patio. In conclusion, Bangkok Patio Restaurant has not only managed to maintain the highest standards of Thai culinary excellence but also fostered a sense of community and warmth that resonates with its patrons. It's more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Thai culture and culinary artistry right in San Mateo. A solid 5 out of 5 stars, and a heartfelt recommendation for all who crave an authentic Thai experience. Enjoy!

I was really pleasantly surprised by this place. It doesn't look like much and the interior is quite eclectic. I came in at 2pm on a Saturday and the place was absolutely empty, not usually a good sign. We ordered a duck salad and the crispy catfish and both were excellent. The salad was super flavorful (though a bit wet) and the catfish had a subtle heat that built up as we ate it. I liked the eggplant with the catfish as well. Their menu is huge and everything sounded great, so I'll definitely go back to try more.

The food was tasty and spicy. I'd say their spicy scale is a bit higher than others in the area. We ordered medium for everything, but felt it was more like spicy. So go down a level. We ordered Pad Basil chicken, Pad Kee Mao, silver noodle salad. Pad basil came with plenty of basil. If you like basil (and I do), this is it! And if you have to take it home, it's still good the next day. Pad Kee Mao was good. Had great sauce but some of the noodles stuck together so it wasn't well mixed so some of the rice noodles were only coated on one side. But it was still good. Silver noodle salad was good. The sauce was delicious but just a touch on the salty side. One thing to note, there was only one server when we went so service was a bit slow. There was a large table and about 3-4 smaller tables. The large table was a birthday celebration. The waiter turned up the music at one point...at first we were all a bit confused about what was happening. But after hearing the birthday song lyrics we realized he's a one man show. The entire restaurant had a good laugh about this.

Went here for a dinner with friends. Good Thai food. We ordered Basil friend rice, tom yum soup, Masamman curry, drunken noodles. Everything was good - loved the tum yum soup. Basil fried rice were a bit oily and could be better. Service was fast. They also give a complimentary traditional tea - which was nice. If you are in the area, definitely try this local Thai place.

First time here, went for lunch with my friend - great service and great food. Ordered the green curry with tofu and a side of white rice. Tasted very authentic! The medium spice level was pretty spicy. Only complaint was the price for a side of rice and Thai tea seemed a little high. I skipped on ordering the tea this time. I would go back and try other curry though. Curry price seemed good!

I love this place!! What’s most important is the food… and it is delicious. They have great authentic Thai dishes, and everything I tried was great. My partner and I went two days in a row. I didn’t get a picture of the entrees we had in the first night (Pad Kee Mao) which was a generous portion and very tasty. However on our second night, we ordered the kao soi at the recommendation of the chef. It was AMAZING! So tasty and such a big portion! My partner and I shared it. We ordered rice to go with it and ended up getting a to-go box. The mango sticky rice was also some of the best sticky rice we have ever had, and one of the biggest portions of it we’ve ever had too. We also ordered the fried bananas and ice cream the first time and it was great as well, but the portions were so big that two desserts was definitely too much for just the two of us. The taste of food is always most important in my opinion, but what really makes this place memorable and worth coming back to (and what made me want to write this review) is the people who work there. The server and cook were sweet and helpful. They clearly prioritized our satisfaction above all else. So much so that when we ordered the two desserts the server/cook strongly suggested against that saying, “it’s too much!” (He was right!) and then did the same the next day when we ordered the rice with our kao soi, “it’s too much!” And joked about being right once we asked for our box at the end of the night. The restaurant atmosphere is certainly unique and very cute. I love that the rice comes in the shape of a heart (certainly fits the theme). I will definitely come back the next time I am in the area, and I highly suggest it to anyone who loves Thai food.

Excellent Thai food!! They make it as spicy as you like and so delicious!! Service is excellent too!! We asked for Eggplant to be added to our Basil Beef...it was amazing. We ordered Basil Beef, Pad Thai with chicken and Panang Curry. It's so cute that they shape the rice into a heart.

Everything here was great! The food was delicious and the service was great. Would recommend to anyone. We ordered the Crab Lagoon as an appetizer and a pot of the Tom Kha soup. Both were very flavorful. The service was great as well. We did not feel rushed even tho we stayed past closing.

Good local Thai place, dining room has about 10 tables. We ordered takeout on a Sunday night at 6pm, and like so many other Thai restaurants, they are slammed with takeout orders. Took about 50 minutes from ordering to food ready for pickup, so about a 20 minute wait in the lobby..

We had a wonderful experience here, based on a recommendation of a friend. The pumpkin curry was the best I've personally ever had - good enough that my wife finally admitted that what i ordered was better than what she ordered - which is unheard of. The Thai Iced Tea was great - we ordered one to split, and the amazing waiter (failed to get his name) split it into two glasses so we could have our own - very thoughtful. He was also very attentive and refilled my water as soon as it was half empty. He managed to staff all of the tables at once, and was very effective. Parking was good and in the back (accessible from a side street, a bit hard to find). Ignore the 20 minute limit sign. You can enter from the back (it feels a bit odd, you're kind of behind the counter as you enter). We'll definitely be back!

Service is exceptional. We got 2 free Thai ice tea and tip is waived? I left money tip nonetheless. I think the server was the owner. Although they seems to be short staffed, the service is fast and efficient. Our server was also very engaging and telling side jokes. The food is very good. First to try pad manggo and it was surprisingly good. Love the mango sticky rice for dessert. Highly recommended

We absolutely recommend this Thai restaurant. Not only is the food delicious but their customer service goes above and beyond. We didn’t realize they closed at 9 and we stopped by as they were closing and they took care of us anyway. They offered take out and didn't rush us at all. They helped us pick out dishes and offered us drinks while we waited. We loved them before but their service today really made our night so I had to share. Go check them out! 😍 Our favorites tonight were the Pad Basil Lamb with side garlic sauce and the Pad Se Ew stir fried noodles!

The food here is like a warm (and spicy) hug for your soul. Got takeout from here multiple times, so great for days when you don’t feel like cooking. The tom yum is some of the best I’ve ever had - you can really see the finely chopped herbs and spices that go in! I usually get it as a tom yum noodle soup with shrimp. Other faves are pad see ew which has that slight char, and pad ped (fried catfish with eggplant) - so flavorful! The employees here are always so nice.

Food was good, service was great! We went there short of an hour before closing time. We were super welcomed and the waiter provided with awesome recommendations on what to eat there. Noodles with duck were delicious and fried chicken was crispy, with lemongrass. So good! Really nice evening :)
