My favorite restaurant in Northern California. The place has a historic, charming vibe after 50 years in the same location. Everything from the fire toasted bread, to the baked potatoes, and on the entire menu is executed to 10/10 quality. My dad has been coming here since he was a frat boy at sjsu and maybe I’m still in love because of that nostalgia…. But this spot is truly a hidden gem beyond words. Highly recommend the prime rib and ribs. Cheers

The eating experience is a little different here, but the food is excellent. It's mostly meat, with basic salads and southern sides (Mac n cheese, baked potato). The plates are huge, so plenty of leftovers. No desserts though. When you arrive, as soon as your whole party is present, tell a server you're ready, because you don't get on the waiting list to get a table until AFTER you order, and you need your entire party present to order. There is a 10-15 minute delay after you order, before you're seated, and the only menu in the dining room is drinks. The salads are waiting for you when you sit. Efficient service and great food, super friendly staff. This place has a long history in San Jose, so it's worth visiting, but try to be there when they open and don't go when there's an event at SAP Center (crazy crowded). Parking is limited, only on the street (and it's metered, but you can pay by credit card).

It's not your typical high-end steak house, but it's definitely a steak house that serves high-end steaks. At least the filet mignon I had was perfect! Very laid back, blue collar type crowd which makes the place comfortable and relaxing. The wait was rather long because of a concert down the street, but it was worth the wait. Don't fill up on bread before the steak arrives!

I am more of a local guy than a chain guy. Found a great local establishment that seems to be a fixture in this community. The place was very cool, the bar area is inviting, but the weather was so nice, I had dinner outside. TVs in the lot are a nice touch. I was lookin for some ribs and Henry’s delivered the goods. I had ribs and a steak. The ribs were spectacular and the steak had a nice taste, slightly overdone. Not really complaining though. The staff was great, Jorge was very attentive. Everyone seemed to be hustling because it was very busy. I highly recommend this place. Come out and support your local businesses!

Phenomenal experience ✨️ except the wait time but it was Valentines day. Service was amazing & so was the food. Had the beautifully cooked PorterHouse steak cooked medium rare, perfection. 😋 a must try! Had the pork belly wish was so juicy too! Fold the garlic bread around it to make a little sandwich 🥪 mmmmm! Mac-n-cheese was Meeh. 🫳 Broccoli was delicious as well. Don't fill up on the bread though. Definitely coming back & trying the ribs next. Me & my fiancé shared the 20 Oz PorterHouse which was enough. Huge!! Highly recommend, super iconic spot in San Jose.

Have been dreaming about coming here for a while now and I'm glad that I did today. Inside of the restaurant is clean and the staff is super friendly. The food was amazing and my mom enjoyed her prime rib. The outdoor patio is really nice and wished I could have enjoyed it but decided to go indoors. Parking wasn't too hard to find.

This is an awesome place .First, you come into a bar setting. Take a number and place your order, and I will say, like, 5 minutes you're seated, and they just start bringing your food. Very different and amazing food 😋 we even was able to order more food togo.

THE FOOD: I got their baby back ribs, and they were (no joke) the best ones I'd ever had. They were incredibly tender and almost buttery. The sauce was great, sweet and tangy, but the ribs were so moist that it almost wasn't needed. I liked them so much that I brought more friends of mine back there 24 hours later. Sadly, the ribs the second time were the polar opposite. They were very dry, and even crunchy in places (not the normal crispy, they were hard). I'm still giving 5 stars because those first ribs were life-changing, but the second ones have made me hesitant to bring more friends in or come back at all. :( For sides, I loved their chili. I wouldn't recommend the mac and cheese. THE DRINKS: They have a GREAT craft beer selection. I think they have about 10 taps, which I was told they rotate out with different beers. I was really excited when I saw they had a rare beer, Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout, and it didn't disappoint. THE SERVICE: The staff were fantastic. We either had the owner or GM as our server the first time, and he was very attentive and made helpful recommendations. THE ATMOSPHERE: They have a really fun place. If you're inside, you're in a cool, old hotel. If you're outside, you get covered in shadow for a split second every time a plane goes overhead (you can make a game trying to guess the airline).

Got their Prime Rib dinner and the red branch cider. Came with a salad (not pictured due to eating it beforehand and it was nice and crisp), baked potato with chive butter (the butter was delicious) and au ju. There was garlic bread with either their version of a marinara sauce or a very tomato BBQ sauce. The cider was great and flavorful, not too sweet, with a hint of tartness. Overall, a great place to try at least once. Definitely going back another day to try the ribs. 2-11-22 : Went back to it again and got a full rack of ribs this time around and OMG! It's sssooo good! It was huge that I took some back with me. (Sadly not pictured due to it being delicious).

This place was fun. It’s like an old restaurant that’s been around forever. It has a cozy bar area with small old TVs, you can chill waiting for a table. Food is more of a home-made style. We ordered chix & baby back ribs combo cause we were not that hungry and it was enough for 2 people. chicken was a bit dry for me, but baby back ribs were soft. + side of mushroom, mac & cheese (it was my least favorite cause pasta felt overcooked; it almost melts right away in the mouth).

Came here for dinner on Saturday night. We asked for table for two with outdoor seatings and put in our orders, waited only a little bit, and were seated. To my surprise, we had small salads waiting for us at the table! We ordered our iced tea and arnold palmer at the table which were served with compostable straws. 😀 The restaurant serves generous portions. My friend ordered the chicken and ribs combo that had half of a chicken hiding underneath that half rack of ribs, and my half rack baby back ribs were meaty and tender with good tasting BBQ sauce and most of meat falling off the bone. I like the cute little button mushrooms side order. Service was good. I also like the fancy umbrellas setup. The large screen TV with a baseball game that was on at the time gave the place a sports pub feel to the outdoor seating area.

The food is really good, you can definitely smell it from the outside and it does not disappoint! We've been here a couple of times and the best way to get a table is getting there early, otherwise you might have to wait since they are always pretty busy, but it's worth it.

The restaurant itself is charming and has a nice history to it. Offers steaks and BBQ. Good selection of drinks and cocktails as well. The steaks are okay. Not the best, not the worst. I asked for my steak rare and it came out medium. That's just cardinal for a steakhouse. I didn't make a fuss or send it back, just ate it because I don't believe in wasting food. I'd still recommend this place because staff are quite friendly.

Wonderful food, great service, and not bad prices! I had the chicken and ribs combo, which was terrific! Chicken was juicy, not dry, and the ribs were unbelievable! Had plenty left over for take home. My friend had the Ribs and Ribs plate, and I imagined a scene from the Flintstones. Great experience all around!

This restaurant been here for a while and am sure the building is older than the restaurant which makes it a nice historic location in the heart of San Jose. Their menu is on the wall, you pick your food and get your number, enjoy some drinks at the bar if you want until your name/number gets called and you get seated with your starter (salad with your choice of dressing) and waiting for you at your table. Good service. The prime rib served only two days out of the week is really good. Wish they had more sides to pick from. Tried ordering the bbq mushroom and bbq onion - both is a no go! The garlic bread is scrumptious. And to the main event - the baby back ribs! All served with baked potato on the side. We enjoyed it all. We also sat outside making our experience merrier. Will come back to taste the bbq salmon and the chicken.

Really delicious, tender and juicy full rack of baby back ribs that my wife and split. They also let us get an extra salad and baked potato for the split. The bread with bbq dipping sauce was also delicious. Finally, they have an amazing 24 tap selection of really great local craft beer.

The baby back ribs were terrific. My friend's Porterhouse was cooked perfectly. The choice of draft beers is great. A great place for a carnivore!

I'll tell you why I ate at the Hi-Life..... I dropped off an 1865 45-20 Prescott Bellicose to a Craig's List buyer named Willie Peasbody, he claimed to be a direct heir to the Winchester family and he's the true owner of the Winchester Mystery House. Well, after that story I told him no personal checks, cash only, so we made our trade at the bank around the corner from Henry's World Famous Hi-Life. When I saw this place I knew right away I was in for a great dinner. Well, once again I was wrong! The Hi-Life wasn't a great place, it was an Amazing place! The food and the service were exceptional, one word comes to mind...Spectacular! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

The only place in the SF Bay Area where you can get a real steak, with a good selection of local beers on tap, and probably one of the best restaurant in the SF Bay Area overall. My Tbone steak was so tender and tasty.. just perfect. The environment is rustic/friendly and the workers are very friendly too.

A great place to get value for money steak. Very nice ribs as well that paired perfectly with the bbq sauce. Those table side bread that they served was so unpretentiously good.

This place is not what you think. We have seen it for a while and finally gave it a shot. We seated outside because we have a dog so they are pet friendly. They have a good bar place inside that we saw because we were looking for someday to guide us or a host, nothing. Finally they explain how you order and you go to your ya me to wait. So service is not the best things here. The guy outside was really friendly but inside you are by your own. The place smell amazing and the food do not reflect the smell. Chicken was dry, fries are not good, and the ribs were dry too. Nothing special. We keep looking for a good bbq place in San Jose.

Love the dive-y atmosphere, you can tell locals love coming here. But my steak was just ok - nothing too memorable. I think it's worth it for me to go back and try something else though!

Don't miss the prime rib on Fridays! If you do, their other steaks are also really good. Other than that, the dependably excellent service and great bar make this the perfect choice for lunch or dinner if beef is what you're looking for.

This place has great BBQ. Was here recently for a going away party for a friend who hasn't tried this place out. He left happy and loved the BBQ here as well as the rest of our group. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for great BBQ!

Got there a little before 11 and found parking. Many open tables and friendly people talking with others at nearby tables. The food was wonderful including steak, pork chops and ribs. The house dressing is as wonderful as ever as was the garlic bread. The potatoes are a meal unto themselves! Kyle was our gracious and patient waiter who was appreciated. I haven’t been to Henry’s in many years. My error!

Best babyrack ribs I've ever had, and I've been to Texas.. The food is amazing, service was very attentive, and the beer menu had a lot of variety. Went with outdoor seating but the interiors have a lot of history, gives a vintage/rustic vibe. If you've never gone, its a must for BBQ in San Jose. 10/10 Definitely would recommend 👌

This place was delicious. Great meat and large portions. The large portions and quality meat justify the expensive prices. This place has a cool western old vibe I love it. The salad was good but I would suggest going a little lighter on the dressing. Way too much dressing. The bread was excellent, nice and buttery. The fettuccine Alfredo was delicious and makes excellent leftovers!! And the baby back ribs were 👌👌👌 I can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu.

I really enjoyed this place. The staff and service was fantastic. The exterior seems a little rough, but the inside is very welcoming. Great food. Enjoyed their BBQ chicken and NY steak. Steak is a bit pricey, but it's hard to put a dollar value on a good steak.
