As a tourist who loves a market, I wouldn’t recommend this one. Not even for the ‘witchy’ bit at the back which was just candles and weird potions, same in stall after stall. It was so busy (apparently is all week) and claustrophobic as lanes between stalls very narrow. Felt very unfriendly from vendors and locals, not welcoming and smiley like loads of the other markets we visited. The area is hard to get to as it’s just full on traffic until closing time and apparently not a very safe area for a tourist but we wanted to experience it. A lot of the stalls were exactly the same. Loads of plastic party tat and incense stalls. We were here close Halloween and Day of the Dead so all themed on this. Worst thing about this market is the fact it sells live animals. There were around 30 kittens in one cramped cage and some not responsive. No water in any of the cages. We saw the woman pick up 6 tiny chihuahua puppies at once just by their legs and they were all crying with the pain. If I could save all these puppies I would and it left me heartbroken. It’s sad Mexico City still allows this to happen. Just don’t bother! Smelly, busy and sad.

This is a historic, wonderful and unique market of Mexico City. It is a one-storied market with tiny stalls and narrow corridor. The most interesting and unique portion is situated at its rear end where the stalls are selling elements of witchcraft, small religious figures, figurine of deities, demi Gods, potion etc. in one corner and various herbs, pet animals on the other side. The other parts of the market are also frequented by local people, as well as some foreigners. The stores sell cheap household items, souvenir and clothes.

One of my favorite markers to visit in cdmx. They have tons of cool crystals, cool mystic things, clothes, candles, food, and anything else you could ever imagine. Being a traveler this is a cool cultural experience if you want to really see a true Mercado. Be warned, they have an animal section and if you’re very sensitive to these types of things I would avoid that part, But I see it as a cultural experience so I don’t Judge. One of my must see markets.

Big selection of homeware and animals. Unfortunately, the animals are all pent-up in small cages & even the cutest pet babies may have a harsh time living here...

This is the spot for Santa Muerte fans and devotees! Santa Muerte incense, candles, tarot cards, key chains, magnets - you name it! Also, it's next to a chain of toy stores, so there are things for children at this market, too.

Large market mainly full of tourist junk. No real vegetable or produce. There is an interesting section selling animals of all sorts. Suspect not all legal but interesting to wander through. Was drawn by reviews of magic and occult sections. Overrated but interesting. Lots of medicinal and herbs. For the most part vendors are friendly. Found that most won't haggle on prices that are high. 200 pesos for a witch doll. No one would bargain it down except at 1 stall and bought several for 100 each. Worth a visit, but a bit of a zoo.

If you’re a tourist and get freaked out about animal abuse or animal in cages then do not come here. Every live animal is sold for witch craft and other rituals. Those kittens, puppies, chickens, snakes are all for rituals. Cool place but extremely crowded otherwise

This place was very big and full of amazing choices. Copal and herbs in bulk and many Santa Muerte statues, rosaries and candles. Lots of children and Adult costumes. I had a wonderful time.

One of my favorite museums in Mexico City! I always find myself visiting whenever I'm in town. It has quite an expansive collection and you'll probably need a few hours to get through them all, as there are exhibits both indoor and out. Well worth the visit! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different.

Absolutely world class museum, I would recommend it to anybody. I spent about 5 hours here, but could have happily spent double that. There are two “routes” a more archaeological selection on the first story and a more anthropological/cultural selection on the second, I would advise doing both (going counter-clockwise from the first story all the way around the courtyard and doing the same for the second floor). Many exhibits had explanations in English. It was really cool seeing artifacts I recall from my grade school textbooks: the Aztec sunstone, Mesoamerican ballplayers, colossal heads, etc. The admission was very reasonable at $80MXD.

Arguably the weirdest place I have ever been to. You can literally anything and everything you can imagine, from live crocodile to voodoo dolls, from garlic strings to dried snake! Nonetheless, the place is a bit shady and vendors can get kinda aggressive if they realise you are a foreigner. Nonetheless, this is a must visit in CDMX.

A place of idolatry, objects of black magic and devil work. Many poor animals in cages whose unkind owners smoke cigarettes on them. bad energy.

If you’re visiting, heads up this isn’t really for tourists. It seems like most people are buying in bulk. Lots of plastic items, bags, carnival plushes, and even live animals.

Known as the place to buy supplies and ingredients for the practice of Santaria, the Mercado Sonora is also a great place to see a slice of local life.

Interesting. Lots of stuff. Avoid the area where animals are sold - you'll know you're close when you can hear lambs screaming and birds chirping. It was disturbing. Stay the heck away when the market is closed, it's a very dangerous part of town. When it's open, it's safe to be around.

I went here in December 2020. Unlike the other reviewers I didn't feel particulary unsafe, maybe certain people *ahem* just feel uneasy around people that don't look like them? I went to visit the witchcraft stores that pretty much all sold the same thing. Herbs, magic soaps, spell kits etc. Very cool stuff but the shops are very repetitive. The back of the market where they sell animals is truly disturbing. Tiny puppies with their ears pulled back, held in small cages. They sell cats, chickens, even sheep too. Really sad to see people interested in buying animals kept in this condition and I'm not even a animal person myself. I was told not to take any photos. Like all outdoor and indoor markets around the world, have common sense. Don't flash anything and you'll be fine. I think it's worth seeing this market for yourself. It's a strange place.

It´s a great place to buy culture, yes culture, It is the representation of what a market in México looks like. The thing is that is not a safe zone in the city, and it is a really polluted place, with too much people, too much stuffs and a lot of garbage., But I love going there, I can see a lot of things and buy a lot of things in the same place, good prices if you know how to buy.

Such a fabulous place to visit!! You'll need a good 4-5 hours to really enjoy this place, so clear up your day. It ends up being a little bit too much, since there is SO MUCH to see. I recommend, if you have the time, to read up on Mexico's history so you aren't so lost when you get there, especially since it lacks so much description and explanations in languages other than Spanish. There are a few guides outside who can give you a tour, but no guarantees on their language expertise. There's not much information in English, so Japanese and other languages are out of the question. The staff was having trouble trying to help someone in English who needed some information. That said, with some info and Google translate, you'll be able to have much more clarity and see some really spectacular sights. They have a restaurant but I do recommend bringing your own water, that you can drink out of the exhibit rooms. They have good social distance practices and have a limited capacity since the pandemic rules requires places not to get crowded. Lovely gift shop and clean restrooms. Enjoy learning about Mexico!

This is a must visit place if you’re touring. It is the largest collection of archaeological artifacts that I have seen on display - and this means a lot coming from a former archaeology major! One could easily spend an entire day here marveling at how ancient everything is.

The National Museum of Anthropology (Spanish: Museo Nacional de Antropología, MNA) is a national museum of Mexico. It is the largest and most visited museum in Mexico. Located in the area between Paseo de la Reforma and Mahatma Gandhi Street within Chapultepec Park in Mexico City, the museum contains significant archaeological and anthropological artifacts from Mexico's pre-Columbian heritage, such as the Stone of the Sun (or the Aztec calendar stone) and the Aztec Xochipilli statue.

  • 5/5 Maria Arriola F. 3 years ago on Google

(Translated by Google) It is an incredible place to learn all the history of our country because they make it learn faster and in a fun way because it is only a matter of visualizing what the objects they used were like, how their houses were and what they used to create them, such as it was the people and their way of thinking, among many others. The things that are exhibited come with a description to understand them more clearly or you can tell those who work there to explain anything that is exhibited there and the things that are displayed there cannot be touched. All the material that is shown there is separated by rooms to see what culture they were from and what age they are. Everything is well organized and well done. If you are going to go on Sundays, which is when it is crowded with people, I suggest you go to the museum early because then people stay standing in a single piece on display and they won't let you see or take a picture of it.

We walked through the surrounding parks, sat on benches, well, thanks for that.

If you go to this market because of YouTube videos!!!dont do it. Its nothing like what they traveler vloggers made it seems like.a lot of spaces and plastics thing to creep people but reay didnt do it for me and that section was really short walk. They have live animals for sale.

This part of San miguel is very pretty has a lot of different things mixed togeather like food, jewelry, and decorations for inside and outside of the house. Prices are great and its fun to look at everything even if you don't actually buy anything

This market is huge! You can find candy, ceramic plates and cups, bootleg stuffed animals like a faux pickachu. We also stumbled into a section that was a bit creepy they sold things like puppies to snakes, frogs, chickens, small birds! It was a market that probably didn’t get a lot of tourists! Also just be aware of your surroundings.

What a Magical chaos has Mexico City and it's different places to find the needs you are looking for. don't go there unless you have homework related!

Large market for all of your spiritual and religious needs. However those affected by the sight of live pet stores beware, as a large portion of the market is puppies and other animals in cages.

a lot of amazing, interesting and creepy things you can buy. I would give it five stars, but the way the animals are being treated is just wrong.

Just a Mysterious, little bit weird place… A lot of websites and tours do not recommend this place… Honestly is common sense.. do not go with jewelry, phone in the pocket and not filming everything, shut up and observe !!! I enjoyed it SO MUCH

This place was very big and full of amazing choices. Copal and herbs in bulk and many Santa Muerte statues, rosaries and candles. Lots of children and Adult costumes.come and enjoy.

Extremely packed on a Sunday but the ambiance was extremely upbeat and cheerful. Pop up shops vary from local artisan work, food, drinks, antiques and clothing. Went on a Sunday afternoon and would go back. Not a place for small children.

Don’t think I got the full experience as I don’t speak Spanish but a cool range of herbal, liquid and candle ‘spells’ as well as tarot readings, Santa Maria de Muerte statues and… children’s toys. I wouldn’t bring children here, it’s scary and strong-smelling. I saw locals carrying live animals they’d bought in boxes but didn’t see where these were sold. Street food at the back by the fire station was very popular and full of local people. Go for the huge range of votive candles and spooky vibe.

Todella valtava torialue, missä myydään kaikkea mahdollista ja halvalla. Kannattaa ehdottomasti käydä katsomassa ihan jo ainutlaatuisena kerran elämässä kokemuksena. Ihmisiä on todella paljon.

Great variety of articles. Very good prices. You can find almost anything. We were looking specifically for Independence day related articles.

Good place for witchcraft material ! I've found rare herbs and nice jewelry. But theres also a lot of plastics stuff to sell also, which makes it less traditional.
