This place is weird. Looks like a dusty abandoned thing but it’s one of the most important churches in central America and it has a lot of story behind it like the architect was rejected by locals bishops then he went to Rome and got the green light directly from the pope or so. Anyway, 1,5$ fee to enter, quite outrageous, and then it takes 2 to 5 minutes to explore all.

This is one of my favorite and most beautiful churches in the world. The architecture is very unique, and although the exterior may look ancient and simple, once you're inside, you'll be surprised and amazed by the beauty of the church. Beautiful rainbow-colored rays cast from the stained glass windows onto the ceiling. You must see this church if you're in El Salvador."

This church can serve as an example for the saying 'Don't judge the book by its cover". An ugly building in an unattractive block on the outside, a beautiful gem on the inside. $2 entry, probably good for the whole day if you'd like to see both the morning and afternoon light. Closes at 16.45.

it's a majestic work of art in the heart of historic San Salvador. The surrounding area is not ideal ( safety, dirty) but once you get there, go inside and take time to enjoy the beauty of this Church. it's well thought and very original.

Unassuming building from the outside but once you get in- I’m sure you would be amazed just like me. I love the stained glasses inside ( reminds me of a church in Rio de Janeiro) and the Station of the Cross is so artistic… The entrance gate is on the other side and they charge 2 USD for foteigners/ 1 USD for locals…

(Translated by Google) This is a spectacular church. It is impressive and I loved the design, seeing the colors that are generated by the sun's rays in the afternoon through the crystals on the walls. It is a very special church to go to when visiting this city even if it is only to admire or to pray. (Original) Esta es una iglesia espectacular. Comissioned by Fray Francisco Peinador and designed by Ruben Martinez, this unusual church wws built on 1971. A truly impressive structure that replaced the main San Salvador church and seat of the Catholic Bishop until the Metropolitan Cathedral was built. Much of the materials used to its construction came from France, including the coloured glass used for the windows. It was designed having in mind the narrow space, making it one of the few churches i. the world to have a sideways altar. A truly marvelous building in the heart of San Salvador's Downtown, its a must-see for pilgrims and architectures enthusiasts alike.

Unbelievably this church charges $2 to enter. I only wanted to go in to see the windows and luckily they'd taken so long setting up their stupid signs I had already taken photos through the door. If you still want to go in, note that the entrance is on the side road, and the gate has no information regarding opening times or the ridiculous charge. A random passerby told me it opened at 2pm while 2 staff stood inside the gate just watching me obviously trying to get it. Basically just proving that religion is a scam.

The imagery is mostly made of iron. (Original) Iglesia con arquitectura muy diferente a la mayoría del país. This was a really unique experience. Really beautiful church. The windows are beautiful but so is the stations of the Cross. Try to come at sunrise or sunset if possible. Also, be aware that they don't like guests, especially women, wearing shorts. I know this is normal when on vacation in 95 degrees plus weather but they make you wear a wrap if they think it's too short. Also, there's no AC in the church.

This church has an amazing architectural design that is very unique. It does not look like much from the outside, but you are in for a nice surprise, especially on a sunny day. The church is closed to the public with the exception of mass on Tuesdays and Sunday, based on what the office told me. This is temporary for covid. If you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it.

From the outside you would easily miss it. It looks like a concreet dirty building. But once you are inside its beautifull. The light through all the colored pieces glass are magic. Best to visit it by a free walking tour. Try to find the eye in the church.

If you don't see this church while in El Salvador, you need to sucker punch your best friend. This place is beyond beautiful with a very rich, relevant history. The architecture is ingenious, it's one of those places that humbles you upon arrival because you realize the builder is light years ahead of you in intellectual ability. The stained glass, the floor, the sculptures, it's so simple in design yet exceptionally brilliant in its final form. I am posting pics but they don't do it justice. They have an eye in the church, the all seeing eye, there are so many hidden gems it could easily take a few hours to deciper them all.

(Translated by Google) The ground of the church housed an old building from 1545 even right there the first cathedral dedicated to the Divine Savior was destroyed by an earthquake in San Jose in 1873 was located. The building that exists today began construction in November 1964 and ended in June 1971 breaking all the architectural drawings of the time. Please be aware of all the meaning that has the parish to enjoy your experience.

What a beautiful modern church. From the outside it looks quite unusual but inside it is a colorful quiet place in the middle of the historic center. We visited it around noon. It is surely even more impressive in the early morning. The entrance is 1$ for locals and 2€ for tourists. The natural ventilation invites you to stay even a little bit longer on hot days.

Wow! What a lord experience. The administrative guy made us, the tourist bye COVID-19 masks when the government of El Salvador has already abolished all COVID-19 restrictions, however, that wasn’t the worse of it. One of the workers of the church wasn’t wearing a mask - therefore, I told the administration that he wasn’t writing his mask, however the excuse was that he worked there and therefore he didn’t have to, how is that a COVID Policy of any public place? It was obvious that they were just trying to sell their masks to tourists…

We decided to stop by san salvador just to see this church and it was worth it. Note that the entrance is from a side street, not from the Libertad square. The first time we came by we thought it was closed because what looked like the main gate was locked but there is a small, nondescript gate from the side. Entrance is $2 for foreigners. We met a guy whose wife got rejected at the door so make sure you're wearing long trousers/skirt and have covered shoulders (tshirt is fine).

I appreciate the beauty of this buiilding, but after visiting even the national palace, and not having to cover my face, i came here and they still require face covers. And of course nobody is wearing them anymore, only a very few people at some work places, and they sell them here for 25 cents each. This is a sales thing… and thats wrong. I refused and walked off. Two stars for the structure of the building. -3 for the service . This is the only place i have visited in El Salvador in the past two months that requires this.

  • 5/5 Kerrie M. 1 year ago on Google
It is so beautiful inside at any time during the day. The best time is 3pm for the full rainbow effect. Cost $2 per person to enter and masks are still required. They sell them for 0.25 cents each.
