It is nice to know about the history of our country, it is not a place that we would visit all the time but if it is necessary to take our children so that they know a little about the history, my 6 year old son thought the place was spectacular!! ! The attention is good and if you have a good guide you can have a good experience.

A place where you can take the entire family, from children 🧒 to older adults 🧑. It's about the history of El Salvador 🇸🇻 From its beginnings when it was built to become the airport and then the step it took to form the first air fleet in the country in the 1920s. Following history with the War of Legitimate Defense, known as The War of the 💯 Hours and continues with the Civil War in El Salvador 🇸🇻 Ending with a sample of the helicopter 🚁 and airplane cabins ✈ Not to mention the opportunity to use the virtual reality simulator in a helicopter 🚁, the view of the runway and observe the planes and helicopters flying. It is a pleasant experience! The cost of entry 🎫 is symbolic: children 🧒 minors and adults 🧑 seniors enter 🎫 free 🆓 the others are only a collaboration of $1 per person. PS: please tip the guides 😉 #FAS #ElSalvador #Centroamerica #ES #pulgarcitodeamerica #FuerzaAereaElSalvador #SV #Historia #Aviacion #GuerraCivil

(Translated by Google) From San Salvador, you can take a minibus (collective? The way to say it depends on the country, but the point is a shared bus). You can take a taxi, but you can get there if you take a train to Iropongo. Because it is located at the entrance to the city of Iropongo, and almost all buses pass through. If you tell the soldiers at the entrance that you want to visit the museum, a guide will come to pick you up from the museum office. It may be with a guide or without a guide, but it can always be accompanied with it for safety reasons. A solid building that seems to have history is used as a museum. Inside the museum, you can see the history of El Salvador's aviation (including the soccer war, of course) and the equipment you have used up to now. The number is surprisingly large, so it takes time to see. There is also a book corner, but this is a secret spot. There are many collections of U.S. military debris, and there are piles of readable materials. You can spend a day here alone. Aircraft are exhibited outdoors in the open air. There are few types, but I was excited because there are some aircraft that I can not see in Japan. Also, since it is attached to the airport, you can also watch the training from the balcony on the second floor of the building. El Salvador has few tourist destinations, but if you are having trouble finding a place to go, why not go there?

A good interesting place. However, the infrastructure in some rooms leaves a lot to be desired as it looks neglected and it seems that the lobby is the only nice one. To be honest, it is not a memorable place, so I would only go once.

If you're a true aviation geek, by all means hie thee hither, way out to the onetime Ilopango airport east of the city. The National Aviation Museum now occupies an area of more than 1,900 square metres (about a half acre) here, with a huge and enviable exhibit that reviews more than 70 years of aviation history in El Salvador, from fighter jets to cargo planes to helicopters all impeccably preserved. A number of these, of course, are military, with several playing important roles in the civil war or the four-day conflict with Honduras in 1969 (dubbed by some "the Football War"). There are also plenty of informational displays and exhibits with everything from newspaper clippings to antique engines. It actually offers a pretty interesting angle on the country's history and development.

(Translated by Google) To be the only aviation museum in El Salvador it should deserve 5 stars, however there are more reasons why it only qualifies with 3 stars .... The exterior area of the museum is completely neglected, there is only history of military aviation, there is nothing about civil, sports or other aviation over the country. As a government and military institution, it does not receive funds to have better attractions or to maintain those it already has. Some static figures need maintenance. It has a good view of the AILO air terminal. Does not have access to wheelchairs.

(Translated by Google) Aeropuerto de Ilopango is a military airport and base of the air force of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador. It is located in the midst of densely built-up residential areas in the city of Ilopango, which gave the airport its name, about ten kilometers east of the capital San Salvador. The famous Panamericana road runs directly under the 2230 m long and 30 m wide asphalt runway. The nearly one hundred year old airport (opened in 1923) gained notoriety through the weapons and drug flights of the Contras and the Medellin cartel. None other than the drug smuggler and DEA informant Barry Seal, shot dead in Baton Rouge / Louisiana in 1986, used Ilopango unmolested to fly hundreds of flights with weapons from the USA and cocaine to the United States. At times, its pilots landed every minute with their planes in Ilopango, where the cargo was loaded and unloaded in broad daylight. A C-123 provider, which was flown by Barry Seal personally, is still standing, albeit in very poor condition, in the eastern part of the airfield where the military museum of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador is also located. The aircraft of interest to civil spotters - an ex FedEx B727-225Adv (N469FE), the Douglas DC-6B (F) '301' (C-118 / R6D / Liftmaster c / n 45078/722) and the mentioned provider are only from Building visible from. A visit to the museum is also worthwhile, as it shows an interesting cross-section of El Salvador's military aviation. The Ilopango Air Show has been taking place on the military airfield every year for 15 years, mostly on the last weekend in January. This is the only chance to take pictures of the apron.
