We picked the Briarwood Inn because it was slightly cheaper than other hotels closer to the water. But we were very impressed at the quality we got for this price! First off, the woman at the front desk was very accommodating and gave us some great recommendations around the area for food & coffee. There were some issues with the toilet in our room, but she got that fixed very quickly. The room amenities were also very impressive. We stayed at the St Anne. It was a private room upstairs in what felt like our own little house. Our assigned parking spot was right underneath which was so convenient. We had a jetted tub, a large tv and my favorite, a gas fireplace! It was spacious and so comfortable. I wish we spent more time in Carmel By The Sea so we could have enjoyed this room for a little longer. Overall, this was a great stay and I would definitely recommend friends and family to stay here, and to stop by this adorable town while driving up the coast!

Briarwood Inn was a nice place to stay! They had a wide array of room types, from smaller/cozy type rooms to full blown apartment type rooms with kitchens and multiple bedrooms. It's located very close to downtown, so it was very easy to get around. Parking is a little snug, but it's manageable. All in all I was pleased with my stay.

The parking was very cramped. Could barely get out of your car. The office hours were 10 to 7. Could not open 2 of the windows and there was no air conditioning. Great location.

Lovely little place, the room was delightful. Bummed that the advertised breakfast & gym did not actually exist when we stayed there, but it was super cute for a weekend getaway.

M2 Chelsea room was clean, and sheets were good quality. However, an absolute nightmare waking up to nauseating construction right outside our bedroom window. When we spoke to the front desk over the phone with questions, they never disclosed the complete building renovation right next door. We would’ve never drove 4.5 hours to stay in this room if we knew about the inconvenience. Plus, the front desk does NOT open up until 10am, right before checkout time. That didn’t help at all. Note, the enormous confirmation email did state the construction, but the rooms they say would be affected did NOT mention the M2 Chelsea room. Front desk worker said that he would talk to the manager. Well, manager was not there so nothing was done. I would give 1 star, but the room was pretty nice and clean. The complete hotel renovation right outside my window completely ruined my trip, therefore I recommend waiting until the construction has been completed. I have pictures if you’d like to see

We stayed here mid-week in December for 3 nights and loved it. The price point was affordable compared to the competition nearby. We were able to check in early, the location is great, a quiet neighborhood, within walking distance from downtown and restaurants. It's actually located directly across the street from The Hogs Breath Inn, and a popular Italian restaurant right next door. We had the upstairs corner room, which had windows on two walls, a large fireplace, and a view of the ocean. Our bed was very comfortable, the bathroom/shower with tub, was large and accommodating. A coffermaker in the room was provided and our room also came with a dedicated parking spot right in front of the rooms. Nice... highly recommend.

We stayed in a cute three bedroom house that's part of this inn. Although still on the same block with dining and shopping options, this place is quieter as it is somewhat on the perimeter of the village proper. We had a convenient parking space all week.

Nice inn to stay at that was reasonably priced. Good sized room with electric fire place. Convenient location which is within walking distance to ocean avenue. The room also had a microwave oven, fridge and ironing board. Downside would be the amenities in the bathroom. It’s good that they provide a shower cap but the shampoo and lotion are in very tiny bottles and there are these thin bar soaps. The very small shower tray is also thumbs down for me. I am very petite sized and I still bumped around the walls of the shower. No proper shower shelves to hold the soaps and shampoo etc, they kept slipping off the tiny ledges.

Great location near downtown with reserved parking. Spacious room. Unfortunately, the place is clearly in need of a major revamp. Furniture, carpet, bathrooms, old coffee machines, all need renovation and replacement. Lot’s of dated items and it is not really acceptable at the price tag and for a place in Carmel. Right next to the inn is a construction site which is a major eye sore. You should expect to see ocean or nice greenery around, a garden even, but none of that. Finally, I am not sure why there is no breakfast or breakfast basket which is typical of the hotels in Carmel. Very pricey with nothing to show for other than location. Very disappointing.

Really Nice and cozy place - perfect for a few days in Carmel. Only one thing missing - breakfast. They advertise breakfast but does not serve.

Exceeded my expectations for a $225/night hotel room! The room was clean, warm, comfortable and well appointed. Everything we needed for a 1 night stay. The fireplace was a nice bonus. My boyfriend is a very light sleeper, he slept through the night here without any disruptions. Potential cons that aren’t disclosed until after you reserve the room: - some of the rooms do not have a parking space. (Luckily the room I selected did have a parking space.) - there is construction next door during business hours. (Not a problem for us bc we were here during a holiday)

Of course parking is an issue in Carmel. We selected Briarwood because they said they had parking. Their website says "most of our units feature . . . . . . reserved parking onsite." It was unclear to us but shouldn't have been. We thought we were getting private parking. When we went to check in they told us we had to find parking on the street a block or more away. They said that the email they sent told us we didn't have parking. It was all very unclear and they were not at all apologetic about it.

Quaint environment and a good location within Carmel. If you can snag one of the one site parking spaces it makes the stay even better. The rooms themselves are comfortable and quite charming.

Absolute DUMP. Every aspect of this place is a total fail. The concept of hospitality is nowhere to be found at this pathetic excuse for an Inn/hotel. The front desk attendant is not only rude, but also appears to be mentally challenged. Insisted that I manually fill out the same registration forms twice and when I questioned this threatened to call the police unless I complied. The rooms are run-down and poorly maintained - like something from a bad 1960's horror film (see photos). Every morning you are awoken by loud, blaring construction noise 10 feet from your window (see video). On top of the horrendous experience, they charge $400+ per night. Absolutely one of the worst travel experiences that I have ever had

Do not stay here--Unrealistic Tried to cancel a reservation (made months in advance) as I had Covid and management would not let me cancel two days in advance as they had a 4 day cancellation policy, even though I was too sick to travel. They charged my credit card for a 3 night stay, and then resold the room ( I tracked it) and collected double revenue. No hospitality here--they are in the wrong business! Don't stay here!!

I want to start out by saying, I feel like most of the negative reviews are from people not reading the VERY descriptive website. We have been staying here for almost 1 week for our honeymoon. The website is very transparent about which rooms have reserved parking and which rooms are most affected by the construction on the property next door. The website also has pictures showing that the rooms are simple, quaint, and no, not modern. The website specifically lists which rooms have what amenities. If you want 5 star, luxury amenities, you can go up 17 mile drive and pay over $1000 per night. If you want quaint with a excellent location for walkability, this is your spot. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is our stay has been lovely. The room was exactly as described on the website. The location can’t be beat. Our room was clean and comfortable. I felt like our stay was a very fair price for the quality and location. I would love to return to this little inn.

Every room is unique here but it's hard to imagine a worse room than S-5. If this hotel was anywhere else, it would be $75 a night. Approach with caution.
