Quickly deteriorating. Three treadmills have been broken for months and are still not repaired. Ten total cardio machines inoperable and nothing being done. Three cable weight machines broken. Half the spin bikes need to be replaced. Weight room is never clean nor organized at 4am when they open. Recently charged 30$ maintenance fee and seriously nothing has been fixed . It's been one week since I responded directly to in shape via email as requested in their response to my review. I have not heard back from them. You're doing an admirable job with the marketing basics on responding to reviews but true customer service requires continued dialogue and follow thru. The weight room has generally been more organized each morning with most weights put away; that's a start. None of the broken machines have been addressed however. Is there a timeframe for their maintenance to be completed? Adding another wonderful review. You absolute half wits sent an email saying power would be off and thus the gym would be closed on Wednesday 9/18 until 6am. However, you opened on time and didn't let anyone know. But it's gets better. I just showed up at 430am today, Thursday 9/19 and you're f****** closed today because there's no power. I swear to God, I don't think you could run this gym any worse. Because nothing seems to change with this location I'm finally adding pictures of what this place looks like when it opens. Enjoy.

Mostly clean gym with lots of equipment. Tends to get busy in waves. I’ve been able to come in the middle of the day to avoid the rush… if I can’t it gets too busy for me, especially right now.

Weight room filthy of lint/hair, dirty mirrors, vested $ for a new floor in a room that no one uses, 7 of the USED treadmills they bought don't work ,have never worked and for the last 2 days NO TOILET PAPER in the mens restroom. You would think by 5am staff would know to check atleast the restrooms .

I was a member for quite some time until the camera started appearing everywhere. now it seems as if every fifth customer. Has to be an influencer or a tiktok superstar. And when asking if they don't mind moving their equipment or waiting until I finish my workout. I am at with A level of disrespect and resistance that is not worth the trouble. I'm not coming back until those cameras disappear. Seriously,the only one interested in your tik tok fame is you and your audience of one.

I was a little disappointed that the majority of the machines were dirty. Overall this is a nice gym that has a lot of amenities. I really enjoy the sauna and hotub..for 34$ a month it's not a bad deal at all for what they have..just wish it was a tad cleaner. This review is specific to the Monterey location.

I had an okay experience for the most part going to In Shape. We are military and my husband had to move in July, I wasn't able to keep my membership and had open a new one. I waited for a promo and it worked out but in September cancelled my membership online, which was confirmed on their website as cancelled. All done correctly,, within the 30 days period. CONFIRMED by their website! I received a confirmation and after that multiple emails with return offers and requests for feedback. Today, checking out my bank account I see that In Shape charged for the past 3 months after I CANCELLED my membership. They didn't apologise or returned the money, they said it was too bad I haven't received a confirmation email and that I could cancel now. It's insane that companies just take our money, acting with malice and you just have to be cool with it. I shouldn't be penalised for their system not sending me an email or not updating things when I cancelled it. I will try to retrieve the money in the small claims court and see how that goes.

Hello. This club is great but recently my company partnered with in-shape health clubs to offer 20% discount. I have been trying to contact customer support but no success in getting a response. I like this gym a lot the employees are very nice everyone is very nice. But basketball is one thing I really love and it doesn’t have a basket ball court. But I suggest you put a basketball hoop in the tennis area. I come here twice a week but if you guys added a basket ball hoop I’d come here everyday!

The Gym is good and it has all the necessary equipments but the parking lot doesn't feel safe. There are some homeless people living in parking lot.

This is the best club in the area for miles. It has a pool, sauna/steam, lots of weights and machines, very clean & friendly. And for the money, you simply can't beat it. Plus there is racquetball and table tennis. Wow!

Due to the complete failure of this clubs management to enforce the State and County masking mandate, we are cancelling our membership. This club is essentially a mass Covid spreader because over half of its members are working out without any masks on. More importantly, the Staff observes this transgression and completely ignores it. This clubs members and Staffs behavior is a danger and potentially deadly facility to membership and staff. The County must close this place down! After speaking to the club Manager this evening, I am even more certain than ever that this facility must be closed down. He told me and I quote, " we have signs abouy wearing masks at the door, and we announce it over the P.A. system. But when we speak to club members about wearing masks, many of them become, "irritated", so we dont do that anymore". He further went on to explain that members want to just workout and be stay healthy To which I told him, by creating an environment where Covid 19 is easily spread peoples health will be in peril. At the Monterey Athletic club, masks are not only mandatory the staff insists that they be worn. Especially to those who dont like to wear masks. If people there dont or wont wear masks they are asked to leave. Maybe In Shape management can take a clue! I feel sorry that InShape management cant or wont take an uncompromising position when it comes to the health of their employees and management. Instead they dont want to irritate these non maskers.

This is a decent place. Aside from the pool area, it is pretty clean. It is certainly nice they have a lap pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub but they tend to be on the dirty side. The pool needs to be brushed more often to avoid the dirt build up on the bottom. They say the lanes can be shared but they are about half the size of normal competition lanes as it is so that would be very annoying to have to do. That being said, it’s pretty easy to look at the schedule and reserve a lane that isn’t being used. The steam room needs a daily wash out and judging from the broken grout lying about, it doesn’t appear to be getting it. The rest of the gym and locker rooms have a clean appearance.

I recently visited In Shape Gym and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the facility was well-maintained and clean. One particular improvement that stood out to me was the steam room - it was top-notch and provided a truly relaxing experience. I also appreciated the variety of equipment available for use. However, I hope they consider expanding their free weight area, as I noticed it was a bit limited compared to other areas of the gym. Despite that, I have no doubt that In Shape Gym is committed to providing the best possible experience for their members, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great workout facility.

In-Shape of Monterey has all the equipment you will ever need to build a fantastic physique! The staff Is a highlight at this gym. Very welcoming, kind , and helpful while keeping the gym nice and Clean. I highly recommend In-Shape of Monterey!

I travel extensively for work and frequent Monterey. This is my "home-gym away from my home-gym". This gym offers nearly everything I look for when becoming a member at gyms. The facility itself is actually rather small in my opinion, BUT they've managed to fit everything in without it feeling overly cramped. Group classes are fun and upbeat, although I do wish there was opportunity to for 1-more frequent yoga classes, 2-more advanced yoga classes...but thats ok. The sauna and steam room are a good plus to me, along with the lap swim and racket rooms. My biggest complaint is that the free wights are literally NEVER in order. You'll find 10s near the 30s and 45s where the 2.5s should be. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else but it truly drives me up the wall and is the biggest factor holding back the final 5th star. Overall, I would reccomend.

Signed up for the “free tour” on the website and then clicked the box to workout afterwards. Showed up at the time we reserved and the lady said, “there is no one here to give you a tour”. I asked, “well can we at least show ourselves around and try out the equipment?” She said it would be fifteen dollars for each person. We wasted our time coming in when the website falsely advertised and we even made an appointment. There was no way we were paying $30 total to check out their equipment. No one showed up to keep the appointment I made online then checked back over through the phone.

Awesome gym, has everything a health club should have, is well maintained, and the staff are always friendly and knowledgable.

I usually love it here and I come almost every day. But recently they started letting a guy bring a massive dog (not a marked service animal, some sort of 150lbs plus Mastiff) and he's letting it sniff at and intimidate people while they are trying to get their workout in. Especially during one of the busiest times of the day, right after everyone is getting off work, I just can't believe this is allowed. Writing this review from inside the gym and this dog glaring at everyone has the entire ab training section cleared out so that the members can't use it. And again it's like 5:30 pm and the gym is packed.

I like the child care. It is one of the best parts of my membership. The staff there are great and the play area is a lovely size. My kids love it and my wife and I can workout without worries. The yoga class on Saturday morning with Mariana is fantastic. She is one of the best teachers I have had. Mariana's class is different every week. It is obvious that she spends a great deal of time and energy focusing each class on a different area of the body. Her class is always packed and she needs to teach at least 2 or 3 more classes a week. Susana is a great yoga teacher as well with her yoga flow

First visit for daughter! (I got a tour and joined this afternoon.) Very nice people. Daughter graduated from a little scared of the water to playing and meditating and not wanting to leave the pool. Also, a lot of facilities for this guy to shape older into!

My go to gym. Good array of equipment and classes. Friendly and helpful staff. The pool is an added bonus. My only complaint is the weekend hours. 9pm is too early to close in my opinion

It's my favorite place to work out and hang out with my friends. It's got Olympic size swimming pool. Sauna. A place to practice tennis at the racquet ball. It has a table tennis area to play and the weight room and enough space to do whatever workout you wanted to do and explore

We are on a road trip with my bf and try to find places to work out at on the go. We really loved this gym, it’s spacious, has a ton of different machines, a pool and we could play rocket for no extra cost. It was a bit crowded between 8:30-10:30pm but it was still good. Staff was really friendly and helpful. The best thing: their day passes are valid for 24 hrs, so for $15 we could go work out in the evening and in the morning too. I really appreciate it, wish other gyms had the same system.

The staff here are the best! I had problems with my account and the front desk staff was most helpful. In the end, the knowledgeable manager had to get involved and he cut right through the issue and resolved it. I have said before how nice the facility is, so in light of this, I am one happy customer. Thank you to the staff.

Above ave gym. Heads up: free weights & machines weights crowded during the usual times (after 3pm week days). Racket ball courts, sauna, steam room, group exercise program, and 25m pool is step up. Couple massage chairs for additional fee/enhanced membership (i guessing here). Plenty cardio machines no one needs to fight over. Recommend more handle straps for pulley machines. Shower heads need replacing and lot of water is wasted since most of shower handles unable to complete shut the water off. Seems only 2 toilets in the locker room gets overworked. Basketball court would be a nice addition.

I am so grateful for in shape it has definitely become part of my support team. I am a recovering addict and coming to the gym has been helping me stay drug free! I've been getting my self esteem back and I'm very thankful!

I love this gym!! It has everything you can possibly need !! The staff is super friendly, respectful, and will help you at every step. It is clean and well maintained. If I come back to Monterey, I will visit the gym again for sure!! Totally recommend it !!!!

Nice large gym has everything you need. My reason for the low rating is dishonest membership enrollment - they told me I can cancel but made it extraordinarily difficult.

Love this gym…so many fabulous classes…tons of machines, dumbbells, kettlebells…everything you need for a great workout. And staff is super friendly!
