Nice trek during monsoon. Although structure is mostly destroyed but that is the case for all forts. We have less awareness about preserving heritage. We simple make use of everything for personal interest instead of understanding importance of the monument.

This Vallabhagad fort is located next to NH-4 near Sankeshwar in Belgaum district. The fort dates back to 1674 and may have been built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. There is a tunnel from the fort, only the main gate remains, the rest has fallen into pieces. Everyone can come and see it, it will be a wonderful sight to see if it is repaired by Karnataka government with the help of local people.

Vallabhgad Fort is a fort in the Belgaum district of Karnataka. The Vallabhgad Fort dates back to 1674, and is said to have been built by the Maratha ruler Shivaji. Major portion of the fortified wall is in ruins. The arc of the main entrance is still in good condition. The doorway is small and built in Gomukhi style. Temples in Vallabhgad Fort There is a temple of Lord Hanuman after entering from the doorway. There is a temple of Goddess Margubai near the bastion of the fort and on the eastern side of the fort there is an ancient temple of Lord Siddheshwar. Below this temple, there is a large cave which has the Holy “Padukas”. It is said that a secret narrow way runs from this cave directly to Sankeshwar town.

Vallabhgad hill fort is located at village Hargapur which is 5 kms north of Sankeshwar town. This hill is situated right besides the National Highway 4. There is a concrete road connectivity up to the hill. It was built by Chatrapati Shivaji during 1674. This spot attracts tourists travelling by and specially those visiting Hargapur Duradundeshwar Math.

A good place to go biking through the farms and slope. Located very near to the Pune-Bengaluru highway, also has different off-road routes that go through small villages in Belgavi district. The fort is in ruins, not properly maintained. The view is good and the fort has the significance of having been used over the last 300+ years by various rulers to observe enemies towards the direction of Kolhapur.
