We weighed out the reviews before we booked and decided to take a chance - and we’re so happy we did. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in room 5. If you’ve read through the negative reviews, we didn’t see any bugs, our room was clean, the furnishings fit the character of the property, the mattress was comfortable, and the bedding was perfectly fine. We loved our room, the property, the breakfast, and the front desk folks were wonderful. With that said, this is an old property, so no AC and the walls are thin. We could hear the folks upstairs walking in their high heels. And in most cases there’s just one person working the desk - our check-in was quick but on a busy weekend you may need to wait a bit. For us this was a wonderful place, it felt inviting, a place you want to just sit and be.

Sometimes you stumble on a inn or hotel that just has personality. You realize you're in Santa Barbara, yet feel like you’re in Madrid or Barcelona. Villa Rosa Inn is a quaint and charming inn with 18 unique rooms with a Spanish colonial flare. The Inn is one property from the beach and a short stroll to some great restaurants. Relax at the pool with your favorite book and bottle of wine or just chill in the Jacuzzi. Both breakfast and a happy hour are also included. The people here are great and go out of their way to accommodate you. While Santa Barbara is known for its arts, culture and affluence, Villa Rosa flexes its personality, style and charm. Give it a try.

My wife and I have visited this hotel regularly for well over a decade. It used to be nice, quaint and very well kept. We once loved coming here on special occasions, or just weekend getaways. We hadn't visited in several years, and during our most recent visit (My wife's 50th Birthday), we were highly disappointed. We had friends meet us from out of town, and it was frankly embarrassing. The property is in desperate need of updating. Room furnishings were very old, worn, and cleanliness was questionable at best. There are now long term residents living in the villa area, which at the time were filled with MANY tenants packed into one room. Very sketch. It's sad to see what this once lovely place has become. I hope someone is able to give this hotel the attention it deserves, and return it to the classy boutique hotel it used to be. I was hesitant to post this, but these issues are easily solvable, and this place is too great to be left to deteriorate. I'd love to stay here again, but not in its current condition.

Stayed for one night, wish we had more time here. A cute eclectic place. The pool and spa looked nice and clean but we didn't get to use them. The gal running the front desk a d the breakfast was covering a lot of people's questions and needs but very ni e and a great help when I messed the waffle maker. Great location, easy 5 minute walk to the funk zone. FYI our room did not have AC, maybe some of the others do.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Rosa in Santa Barbara. I went with my son and his family. It was very quiet and peaceful. The garden and pool sitting area was beautiful. It was mostly couples that I saw there, but some families too, They were very kid friendly and gave the kids fish food to feed the giant Koi. Close to the beach and wharf and the free breakfast and wine in the evenings was the icing on the cake! We thought it was perfect!

Stayed here a year ago. Was a good deal. It’s cozy and has nice style. Cool decor. Excellent location. I enjoyed the tea and making my own waffle at breakfast. I don’t know the history of the property but felt like I was in old mansion turned to small hotel. Wish I brought my bathing suit, don’t forget it!

We had a marvelous 4 night stay!!!! The Inn has Old World eclectic charm! Beautiful tile work throughout, antiques and several places around the pool/ patio area to sit and relax, sip wine and visit. Our small private patio was next to a fountain. The beach was close by as well. We can't wait to return!!!

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect. The staff was very helpful. The only thing that would be an ask is if coffee could be available by 7 am- that would be wonderful. I don’t need food early- but coffee I need right when I wake up. Everything else was great. Thank you for a nice stay.

Location is hard to beat. As an American, the lack of a/c was a bit surprising (there were a lot of European guests), but the room was nice and we had a little balcony that had a view of the beach. It was a bit warm as there were no screens on the balcony door and the bathroom window. Continental breakfast is included. The waffle mix is great. OJ, bagels, cereal, muffins, toast and yogurt are also provided. It was a quiet place to stay and there is a pool (small but nice) and a hot tub. The decor made it feel homey with lots of art and sculptures as well as case of creepy baby dolls I was glad I missed until the last day.

not a happy experience. We booked a large room with a kitchenette for a 2-night stay during a serious cold snap. The heater in the room didn't work well, kept turning itself off after a few minutes, so it was quite cold -- all night long. The TV only worked if you reached under the screen and prodded at buttons. The remote didn't work for on/off or for volume -- no way to mute or to adjust the (loud) sound. There's a window in the bathroom that looks directly onto a stairway -- the window is half IN the shower -- and the blinds are broken, stuck half-way up. In the morning, I asked to move to a room with a working heater and working TV. The first attempt did have a working heater, but the TV didn't work. The second attempt had both heat and a working TV, so we moved there for the second night. I asked the desk to adjust our bill -- I didn't want to pay for the deluxe room for the second night, when I had only stayed in an ordinary room. They refused. I'm asking my credit card company to take some action, but since I paid in advance there may be nothing I can do. This was supposed to be a relaxing weekend. Wasn't.

A definite 5! We loved the old world charm, the architecture and antique furnishings, the courtyard surrounding the pool, breakfast (loved the pie), the linens, and the kindness of staff. That being said, this isn’t a cookie cutter hotel. It’s older and there are some places that are showing their age. But it was one of the best hotel stays in recent memory!! Thank you.

This was the cheapest hotel we could find for a Monday night stay. While it wasn’t cheap, it was much better than the rest of the hotels in the area price wise. I appreciated the free breakfast (simple coffee, yogurt, small stale croissant type of thing, but not bad). It felt safe. Other guests seemed to be nice. We enjoyed the people experience in this hotel. Onto the bad part: While we were relaxing in the jacuzzi we noticed a huge rat running around the pool area. That made me cringe. As we were eating our breakfast on the patio, we noticed that a previous guest left a plate with crumbs on the floor (tucked in the corner). I hope the cleaning staff is usually thorough and this was just one off. The pillow with the flowery pillow case smelled funny. But the white pillows seemed to be okay. Other than that the room was okay.

Loved this place. Has a Mediterranean vibe. Hospitality was excellent. Guests were enjoyable to visit at breakfast and during happy hour outside in the patio courtyard. Great location for walking to the beach. Will go again for sure.

The staff, services, and rooms were lovely. The friendliness, cleanliness, and amenities demonstrated genuine care and concern regarding our stay as guests. The location was perfectly situated with the beach and State Street a block away. I would recommend the Villa Rose Inn (and the Tide Pool Villas) to any friends or family that were traveling to (or through) Santa Barbara. They made our weekend getaway even better than expected.

Very disappointing. Noise from room above just from shoes or talking. Bathroom without counter space and one small shelf needed a coat of paint! Two mis-matched plates, glasses are plastic with no two matched. Flatware did not include a fork. No coffee in room. Mattress was comfortable but the box spring must have broken parts. Closet in room but not one hanger. No dresser so you must live out of the suitcase. Location is great, near the Wharf, but Hotel Milo would be where I'd return next time.

The view from the balcony to the beach is beautiful, I liked the breakfast and the very nice atmosphere. all the tourist places very close. and also the restaurants. the shower very relaxing. I recommend agitation number 13 for me the best. yes indeed. I want a softer pillow set. but from there everything is very good and nice.

Great location and beautiful reception, the costumer service from the lady at reception was terrible for what I paid for 1 night (around $435) I can't remember her name but she was in her 60's maybe, then when I went to the room it was a super old decorated room, terrible smell, the bed was not comfy at all, the kitchen was also super old and looked like it could fall apart any time, I did not enjoy my time there at all, by the time I wanted to check out there was nobody in reception, me and other guest had to wait for about 30min until another lady came, she seemed very confused and did not know where my deposit was so I had to wait more until she finally could get in contact with the person who took my deposit. It was a terrible experience and I would never stay in this hotel again.

This inn lacks basic security. I booked this hotel for $300 on a Saturday night. I thought it was a good price for a hotel so close to the beach in Santa Barbara. Upon checking in there was only one lady working the front desk with a long line of customers. She seemed overwhelmed. No manager on sight. She had to call the manager each time a customer had an issue. I was assigned a room in their adjacent property across the street. The room looked decent, I had no issues with that. However, the door to the patio was broken. The door handle had been placed on the floor on the patio. Obviously I did not feel safe and requested another room. It didn't look like the manager wanted to give me another room until I asked for a refund. I was supposedly upgraded to the main building. It was a big two story room, more than what I needed. Everything in the room looked old, including the bed linens and window coverings. I was fine with it until I saw that the window to the street on the shower downstairs did not close, let alone lock. I couldn't believe it. This was worse than the previous room. Unfortunately this area of SB close to downtown is not the safest. I was surprised that the hotel didn't have a handyman to take care of these basic security issues. I also saw no security guards, although there were questionable individuals walking into the Inn. I was appalled. At that point, I just wanted to leave. The front desk was nice, but she said the manager would have to approve the refund. It's been almost a month and I still haven't received a refund.

Upstairs 2 bedroom room likely recently updated. Very clean and comfortable. And small outdoor area at entry was private and nice to hang out and watch people passing by. Beds were great. I have bad shoulder and slept very well, didn’t notice either night. Well stocked kitchen with full sized kitchen and stove. Large open living/dining room. Hosts at front desk Melody and Christina were awesome. They made us feel very welcome. We had nice breakfasts and took advantage of happy hour on the first night with cheese and crackers and sangria. Just loved the entire stay. Look forward to visiting Santa Barbara and staying here again.

I was purposely put in a room next to construction and was not told that at check-in. They were slow and apparently had many other rooms available. Construction started well before 8am the following morning. When brought to the attention of staff, he said he would not have put me in that room. I asked him what he would do to fix this or compensate for this and his response was "nothing". They took my money without a care that they did this to me. As had been driving long days on my trip and had another long day ahead of me I left without feeling very refreshed. The Villa looks quaint from the outside but once in your room you realize it's pretty chesp and not well maintained. The room has paper thin walls and smelled very musty. It is a nice area so they have that going for them.

The owner and manager were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they made sure we were well taken care of. The location is hard to beat, and the ambience of the hotel is truly what Santa Barbara stands for. Only a few minutes away from the beach and downtown, walking distance from all the best spots in town. We will absolutely come stay here again when we're back in the area, looking forward to it!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We loved our stay here. The hotel is extremely well located right by the ocean on a quiet street. The hotel decor is very unique and cute, and the rooms spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff is incredibly nice. Would stay here again for sure.

Lovely accommodations, my room was beautiful, even had my own little patio. Walked barely a block to the wharf for a gorgeous sunrise. And the guy behind the front desk was incredibly helpful as I was dealing with car issues. Just a beautiful experience overall.

Do not stay here, would give a zero rating if I could! My wife and I had to leave after staying one night because our very young baby was ill. I asked to cancel and get a refund. I was assured this was okay and would get a confirmation of this. No confirmation of a cancel or refund happened. My wife booked the room originally, I surprised my wife and extended our stay for New Years Eve, putting it on my card, the manager said they would add the booking to her stay. Upon check out I asked where my refund was and two different staff (one a newer staff member and a more experienced staff) both assured me there was a cancellation and refund. They had internet issues they said but I would be refunded. Instead my wife [the original Booker] was charged, and I was charged (the person who extended the stay) basically they charged both of us and an extremely high rate THREE times the normal rate. They basically charged us $340 Each for one night when the normal rate is about $110. When I called to ask why they are charging us they said we canceled the night before and would be given credit at best, for one night and the three people who said there was going to be a refund were wrong. They were super rude, cut me off while I was talking, and hung up on me! Very unprofessional to say the least. Even if it is the cheapest place, looks nice, and has good reviews I would not stay here.

Compared to the other options I looked at in this price range, I was pretty stoked on this place. The pool and garden area is gorgeous. Full of bubbling fountains, statues, plants and flowers, I saw staff staying late and starting early to care for it and the work shows. I really liked the way the indoor common area was decorated as well. We were looking forward to going out in town for brekkie but the complementary hotel brekkie of freshly cooked waffles is a nice touch. The room itself had a lot of perks for the money but the blinds in the door were broken so we never had full privacy.

The location is amazing, just a couple hundred yards from the pier and State Street, and a short walking distance to the harbor. The property is older, but it has a lot of character. It also has a very nice pool area. The rates are reasonable, and all things considered we give it a top rating.

We booked this last second on our drive through the Pacific coast. Good location and comfortable, felt like staying at my great aunts house. Only stayed one night but enjoyed the decor, and the waffles in the morning.

We stayed only for one night and had a big apartment with kitchen and living room in the building opposite. It was clean and comfortable. The main building is a bit dated and showing its age, but it's ok for the price and location. The breakfast cannot be compared to European standards, but you can make your own delicious waffles. Disposable tableware is not good but I think there is no kitchen.

Quaint property with one part Inn, and one part Bungalows, with a shared courtyard, a pool, and lots of fountains. We were given a bungalow, so I cannot rate the Inn portion. It was difficult to find the entrance - we arrived at night... Our room was clean, but it had the most mismatched everything, from sheets (on a very squeaky King bed,) to every piece of furniture, like a wooden bench and a leather sofa shoved in the corner. A small bathroom and a huge semi-updated kitchen leading to the pool. Mostly peaceful property across from the Pier. Service and breakfast were both decent. Sorry, I accidentally deleted all photos :(

This was a great stay! The location of the hotel could not be better, the breakfast is extensive and snacks and wine are served in the afternoon. The room and outside area were very clean and lovingly decorated. Anytime again!
