It is a benchmark in architecture. Seeing it with the eyes of today, it seems a lie that it was built in 1932, as housing for the working class. It is built in Sert, Torras and Subirana

José Luis Sert, J.B. Subirana and J. Torres Clave. 1932-36. GATCPAC Fund S-shaped worker housing with Pilotis structure. Greca that leaves room for equipment that was postulated as a pattern to begin the construction of the expansion. At height and with a corridor street to save costs on stairs and elevators. 70 m2 duplex homes open to two facades and with a terrace attached to the summer dining room (facing South or East), through folding stained glass windows. This was the first collective building built in the manner of Le Corbusier and before the master himself did it, constituting a precedent of what would be the Housing Units.

(Translated by Google) A very good experience visiting the model apartment of the Casa Bloc, interesting. They told us the history and the context in which it is planned and built. I think it is a very good example of social architecture developed during the Second Republic. Visiting it has made me think about the current state of the real estate market and the little that some people worry about guaranteeing basic ones (light, ventilation, etc.), putting in rent and at ridiculous prices any room. I highly recommend the visit!

If you don't know its history you will only see a building like so many big cities. I visited it during the Barcelona Open House and the visit was very illustrative. You can see one of the floors, museumd by the MUHBA, which is preserved as it was originally conceived. If you are interested in architecture, urban planning and the history of Barcelona you should know it.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting visit to the block house, a GATCPAC social housing project from 1932, in a rationalist style. Within the 48H OPEN HOUSE BARCELONA.
