One of the Most Revieweds in Santa Fe
Chapultepec Zoo offers a free and accessible experience, but be prepared for potential crowds and consider visiting on a weekday. Animal welfare concerns exist, which potential visitors should be aware of. Specific exhibits require additional payment, so plan accordingly.
Entry is free, but some exhibits like the butterfly house require tickets. Bring change for the restrooms. Weekdays are less crowded. Arrive early, as the zoo starts closing around 3-4 pm. Be aware of potential concerns regarding animal welfare and limited signage.
The experience was not at all to my liking... the conditions in which they keep some animals...
This zoo is not bad for being free... but the poor hippos water needs to be cleaned.
Excelente lugar para pasar el día. Entrada gratuita al zoológico.
It’s a good walkable place. The entrance is free of charge... it is a little left out. The enclosures seemed to be small and with a lot of dirt.
I absolutely loved that it is free to visit for the most parts. You need to buy tickets for 4 of the big houses...

Everything was great. The zoo staff were all friendly and the majority of the exhibits were free. Some exhibits cost like 100- 150 pesos and they had bundles of 3 exhibits for 100- 80 pesos discounted. Those were a shark, butterfly, and dinosaur exhibits. The food was decent a variety of pizza, burgers, tacos, roasted chicken, hotdogs and churros if I could remember right. There were 2-3 bsections closed the day I went which was around July 17th 2024. Not all the birds were out in display. The section where they had the animals that were from the desert or like arid ambience like giraffes, impalas they were not all on display. And sadly the Axolotl section was not also available. It is a great place to go and spend 2 -3 hours spending time with your loved ones or a cheap date according how much you want to spend on food and gifts I believe no more than 75-100 dollars your spend if you go with 2-3 people and buy food and drinks and a magnet for a souvenir 😅
Zoo with a free entry, so, I beg you — come on a weekday, there are much less people and animals are way more calm. I visited this place plenty of times, and I guess the best time for a visit is something like 3 pm. It’s not that hot and animals still active. Mostly I am interested in felines, so, there are many of them here — though, it seems you can’t see everyone in a single visit. Be aware: the entry to mariposario and serpentario are not free, but the main caveat is that they are closing like 4 pm. Didn’t see monkeys these days, probably they are on vacations 😸
The Chapultepec Zoo is an iconic spot in Mexico City, perfect for a family visit. You can also stroll through the park and even have a picnic. Although I’m not a fan of zoos I’m sure kids would really enjoy it. It has a good variety of animals, including lions, giraffes, and penguins, making it very interesting for the little ones. Admission is free and it’s surrounded by the natural environment of Chapultepec Park, which complements the visit nicely. Some areas might need a bit of maintenance, but it’s still an educational and entertaining space. If you’re looking for a place to spend the day with kids, the Chapultepec Zoo is a great choice. It offers services such as guided tours, stroller and wheelchair rentals, a food area, restrooms, a butterfly house, a reptile house, and map guides for sale. It also provides a storage service for $8 pesos per item per day and activities like summer courses.
Quite a nice zoo to visit. The interesting and unique animals here are the axolotl and capybara for me. I visited on a Sunday and it was free.
I absolutely loved that it is free to visit for the most parts. You need to buy tickets for 4 of the big houses, like the butterfly house and the marine life house. Lockers are quite overpriced before the entrance, but oh well… I find it a little hard to navigate, the signage is not great at most places.
The Zoo is free of charge, the amenities are in better condition then some paying zoo's abroad. The zoo is very well made, easy to follow the trail and see all the nice animals. Also a nice thing is that the zoo is almost all covered with the tree canopy, so there's always shade from the sun. Lovely zoo to visit during your vacation in Mexico city.
Si van, lleven monedas para usar el baño. No reciben dólares ni tarjeta
It’s a good walkable place. The entrance is free of charge and there are some exhibitions that have a cost. I have been to many zoos and for this one to be like the main one at Mexico DF it is a little left out. The enclosures seemed to be small and with a lot of dirt ( I know they are wild animals ). Sometimes I was able to barely see through the dirty glass barrier’s or entangled meshes.
Panda was very visible!!! I would recommend going during the week. We were able to get around and see everything we wanted with no problem. Zoo is free and there is a snack bar area inside.
Es muy excesivo el precio del estacionamiento
This was a pretty big zoo. We came on a weekend and it was super packed so maybe it would be less busy on a weekday. They had a huge variety of animals from all environments. I really enjoyed seeing the Axolotls in the sanctuary. I would NOT recommend paying for the VR experience, it was not worth it. Some of the animals seemed a bit distressed - the bear was panting and pacing in circles, the camels fur was falling off and exposing skin, the fish tanks were dirty, the hippo’s water was filthy. I hope that the animals are being taken care of properly. For being free, it was an okay experience overall.
Excelente lugar para pasar el día. Entrada gratuita al zoológico. Cómo recomendaciones llegar temprano ya que entre 3-4pm ya empiezan a cerrar,el zoológico
This zoo is not bad for being free. They have lions, tigers, and bears oh my. But none of them were out today. I did see the giant panda which was a treat. They have a great collection of African animals, but the poor hippos water needs to be cleaned. And yes the house cat wearing a bell was the only cat I saw at the zoo today.
Buen día. Ha cambiado mucho el zoológico. La única desventaja es que algunos animales están dormidos. O muy lejos de la barda o cristal de seguridad.
What a perfect thing to do while walking around Chapultepec forest! My partner and I went to the castle earlier the same day and didn’t make solid plans on what to do afterwards so we made our way to the zoo. Entry to the zoo is free unless you want to see specific exhibits. We just did the free option and there is still plenty to see. There’s a food court area near the entrance and other snack stalls scattered about. Same goes for the bathrooms (remember to bring change! It’s 6 pesos per person). It was a fun impromptu visit! I would definitely recommend.
The experience was not at all to my liking, starting with the fact that the route is not clear, and there are not enough maps of the facilities. Something that seems unacceptable to me, and even inconceivable, is the conditions in which they keep some animals, the lions, without water, a wolf, without water, the coyotes, without water, the monkeys had areas of their heads without hair because they pull it out, there are animals like hyenas and felines that are going around the cage due to stress, the animals in the herpetarium are in very small spaces, the crocodile can barely float, the only good and acceptable thing inside the zoo was the butterfly house, without a doubt, the small space that almost all the animals have was disappointing, it is a clear example of animal abuse and incompetence on the part of the employees to keep the enclosures in optimal conditions for the animals. P.S. There are enclosures that have stained glass, and the turtle enclosure is also muddy, and the sea lions are in a space that is suffocatingly small for the animal.
