We stayed for four nights in the hostel, Positives : the staff was great ,clean rooms. Negative: the food is tasteless, The manager David has a personal feelings against Israelis, bad attitude to Israelis and racist sayings. - Me and my brother had a misunderstanding with the surfing board suddenly he started 0-100 us “Israelis always have problems with money”, “we need to stay away from Israelis” and more and more... At the end he published our passport around the beach. I recommend to any Israeli to STAY AWAY!

I LOVE Driftwood it’s an amazing time. The staff is friendly, the owners are fun. It’s a super social place and easy to make friends havin a few drinks around the pool. The rooms are a great bang for your buck, i recently stayed in a private room and it was super comfy. Free coffee in the morning followed by a michelada, not a better place to be after a night at the beach. Highly recommend 😎😎😎

The oh of hostels in El paredon Guatemala. Great family dinners themed by various country. They protect the turtles, sponsor dentists to come to Guatemala and do all the right things. Try it, if you don't like it move on... But seriously a great landing spot.

This is by far my favourite beach hostel in Latin America. Situated right on the beach, you can wake up and jump right into the ocean-with or without a surfboard. There’s also usually a beach volleyball game happening too. The pool has a swim up bar where you can get involved in games or relaxed with a book in a hammock. The food is delicious. There’s a fresh a la cart menu during the day (the smoothies are healthy and so refreshing), and there’s a big family dinner buffet every evening. The dinners change nightly, showcasing meals made from scratch, inspired by different places around the world. Even the pasta is made from scratch! There’s always equal meat and vegetarian choices, along with plenty of healthy as well as comfort food choices. After dinner, there’s nightly entertainment where all the guests can get involved. Think karaoke, speed dating, music trivia etc. There’s a plethora of costumes that always get busted out too! The staff are all very happy, upbeat and friendly, making the vibes super welcoming. They employ all local kitchen and cleaning staff who all stayed employed through out the COVID lock downs. I keep returning to this amazing place, year after year. Every time I go, I’m impressed to see the updates and improvements the owners are constantly making. I always stay longer than I had intended and I’m always planning my return. I highly recommend this amazing place!

I don’t even know where to start.... organic and welcoming are the two words that come to mind. I spent 4 days here and it was nothing short of amazing. The entire team makes you feel like family and that’s one thing you simply can’t make up. I think we all need to spend some time here to relax and put what’s really important in our lives into perspective. This will not be the last time as I’ll be back in a few weeks. Until next time!

I booked an “8 person dorm”. This is false advertising. What this place has in one big room that has been sectioned off by half-walls to make other “private rooms”. How private is it really, when there is no ceiling and the “walls” don’t even extend up all the way? Everybody staying in those rooms enters and exits through the 8 bed dorm, so it is always busy with a lot of foot traffic, and you can hear every noise from over 16+ people. This should have been disclosed prior to booking. The bunk beds are the most basic they can be and mine creaked loudly with every movement. No individual shelves or outlets. Pool looked a suspicious shade of green, and wet sand was consistently tracked in all over the floor. Took 50+ minutes to receive one order of mozzarella sticks. Positives- Buffet dinner was cool, and the drink prices are good. I also liked their beachside palapa with hammocks and volleyball court. Staff was nice enough. But the best part was the air conditioner in the dorm. It’s the reason I picked this place, but definitely not enough to make me go back.

Absolutely LOVE the Driftwood, get ready to have some fun! Nicest management and volunteers who always keep the energy positive. When in doubt, just participate, there's no shortage of new friends to be made. Special thank you to Rebecca and Bruce for helping me locate my 4 pairs of pants after killer pool, couldn't have done it without you <3

Very friendly staff, by the end of the 5 night staff most of them were calling me by my name which was a nice touch. The food was pretty good and they offer a family dinner, all you can eat for 65 Q. Great location directly on the beach. The facility is quite dated and not as nice as some other options on the beach, but had good surf vibes. The pool is nice and cold and has a bar. My private room wasn't great for the price. The sheets had a cigarette burn hole in them, the towel was old and going threadbare, and there was no wifi in the room. The AC didn't work too well either, but it was better than no AC for sure. Overall, a decent experience but probably caters to a younger crowd that doesn't care about the attention to those details.

Driftwood is a really fun place right at the beach. The hostel is very well maintained and managed, the food is great, especially the family dinners. The socials are run by the volunteers who do a great job at making them engaging and fun. There is surf boards available for rent at a good rate. We had a great time and would always come back!

I stayed here for three nights and can tell that i had a wonderful stay. Already at check-in Maria was very hands-on, kind and professional. During my stay she, Jet and all the others made me feel at home. I stayed in one of the little houses on the property, but there are also rooms below the common area/restaurant where they sometimes host a party. I am lucky to have stayed in a separate building. Beds were a little too small for me tho (i’m 2 meters). Overall i had a great stay and can really recommend it.

Driftwood is an amazing hostel to get social. They had daily events in the evenings and sometimes in the afternoon as well. My partner and I stayed here and loved the location, it’s right on the ocean with a beautiful view. Having the pool was super sweet the have when the waves were too big to swim in the ocean. The food was absolutely delicious and fair priced. They also have a family buffet style dinner every evening with a rotating menu. All the staff were incredibly friendly, and kept the hostel very clean as well. Big thank you to Rusty for being an amazing host. Definitely recommend and we’d love to come back!

Location on the beach is absolutely amazing. Be advised that it is right by the rip current however, the staff are very good on educating you on the rip current during check in. The rooms themselves are in need of some minor upgrading. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was on the more expensive side but was understandable for the location. Would return again!

Cool staff. They had great dinners and fun games. Showers were hit or miss and the power went out a couple times. With that being said it is a remote location so that is to be expected. Great place to stay if you’re in el Paredon

This hostel is amazing. One of the most inclusive hostels I've stayed. They host family dinners every night, the food is amazing, and then arrange games and activities for everyone to join in and get to know each other. Had a ball, and I will most certainly going back! Surf is amazing, they rent out boards and offer surf lessons.

Really authentic hostel with nice and helpful stuff. Family dinner and the evening activities let you connect easily and let you get the good vibe. Daytime activities can be like surfing, volleyball, pool time, swimming, have a drink or go find out where the hostel pig is chilling. The food is probably the best about the place.

El Paredon is a special place and the driftwood staff make your visit even more enjoyable. They are amazing supporters of the community. Amazing location right on the beach. Lovely restaurant and pool area. My favourite would have to swinging in the hammocks watching the surfers. Beach volleyball with one of the owners was super fun too.

Great location right on the beach and perfect for turtle release as the hostel is committed to protect turtles eggs and they organise release every morning (during the season) and on a donation basis. Nice pool and restaurant/bar area with activities and very good food! Dorms are ok, comfort is a bit limited and cleanliness could be improved, showers have salt water.

  • 5/5 Allie S. 6 months ago on Google
I don’t know how you could stay anywhere else in El Paredon! This is a great hostel in the perfect location right on the beach. The pool bar is the best place to pass the day and there are plenty of hammocks, swings and day beds to relax on as well. You can do turtle releases, surf lessons, and beach volleyball. The staff are really friendly and do a great job at putting on games and events throughout the day. We really loved the energy that Maria brought! Another highlight was the buffet dinner each night. The food was so delicious and it’s super cheap. We stayed in both the dorms and private room. The AC at night is great and beds were clean and comfortable I definitely recommend the Driftwood Surfer!

Great location. Sociable hostel. Family dinners on offer every night for Q59 (good food, very reasonable price for all you can eat). The rooms have A/C but it is controlled by the hostel and it is on so low that you are still sweating all through the night. The fans in the bar/dinner area cannot combat the heat kept in from roof. It is quite a party hostel too so if you want to unwind you can find lots of places nearby for the same price that are a lot more relaxing.

Words can’t decide how great this place is. Located in the heart of the beach town, the staff continuously go above and beyond to make sure the every detail is perfect. This hostel attaches and amazingly group of travels that are all kind and like minded. And if that was enough the highly all you can eat buffet dinner is some of the best we have had throughout our trip.

Loved our two-day stay here, and wished we could have stayed longer! There's a beautiful, friendly, simultaneously laid-back and pumped-up vibe to this place that's super fun. 59Q buffet dinners every night with activities, lovely way to meet folks. The food in general is EXCELLENT -- flavourful, fresh, and solid quantity. Obviously the turtle release is a major highlight, also because the 5:45am meetup time means you also get to see the sunrise on the beach which is just magic! The beach is right behind the hostel and is stunning. There's a lifeguard station close by and it's true the riptide is strong but it didn't pose any issues for us and we loved jumping in the waves! Our double room was lovely and the A/C at night was great. Only thing was that mosquitoes were a bit of an issue, especially since I'm a natural mosquito magnet. Maybe having nets installed on windows and putting mosquito repellent coils in common areas would help. :) In general this spot is magic, staff is lovely, and knowing that they are so invested in giving back to the community in both ecological and social / infrastructural ways is the absolute cherry on top. We loved chatting with Rusty about his journey with the hostel and trying to make the world a better place through local initiatives. We're super sad we didn't get to say goodbye to him before we left but can't wait to come back!

Driftwood is such a cool vibe for backpackers - the community element is so amazing and everyone that stays and works there really cares about the place. Tons of fun to be had and so many awesome connections to be made, had such a memorable time

Such a well-run and thoughtful establishment! Although it is a party hostel, quiet hours and the location of the dorms make it possible to enjoy a quiet night in if needed. Every night there is an all you can eat buffet with a different theme and it is a must do! Eating at the same time as nearly everyone is a great way to build community. The surf was great too, knowledgable and friendly surf instructors led me to stand up on the board my first ever time surfing! Staff care a lot about what they are doing and it really shows, shoutout Jose for helping me have a great time in El Paredon!

Definitely an hostel for people that doesn’t care to sleep in a dirty room, doesn’t want to sleep much and party ..So we were staying at mellow hostel at the beginning but when we got to El paredon I thought the driftwood seemed nice so we booked our last night there. We took a private room that has AC (we wanted to spoil ourselves) .When we got there they had a problem with our room so it wasn’t ready because of the wait they give us another room but with a private bathroom. Well I wasn’t happy about that because we had the room that is defenetely where everything is going on like directly at the pool. Anyway bathroom was disgusting , the towel they give you was THE worst (the towel was blue and after drying myself up I was blue) the bed is NOT comfortable at all , the noise was crazy until 3,4am. Don’t take a private room it’s so expensive for what it is. If you want to party you can still go there at night but sleep somewhere else. The only thing that was nice was the “family dinner” they do every night it was really good ( but also you can sign up for it even though your not sleeping there)

Had the best time. Really recommend this place. The people working here are so nice and helpful. The location is ideal, so dreamy. They also have a pool which is really nice and a restaurant with really ok prices. The beds are comfy but I could feel the springs so a bit uncomfortable too. But slept great. I also took a surf lesson and it was really fun but I wish the lesson was more in depth. Would totally come back and volunteer here. Great view from the restaurant too!

This hostel by the beach is super friendly and caring for their customers. If you wanna have a great time and party a lot, Driftwood is the place for you. The manager Ale and all the workers are really entertaining and really know how to have fun. Totally would recommend!

Sick hostel. Good food, good pool, great guests and fun staff. Right on the beach to check the surf easily - majority of guests seem to be non surfers but there was a couple of us who would go out everyday. Family meal is always good and great for meeting people too. A/C rooms are a godsend. Only downside is that the volunteers are worked way too hard in pretty bad conditions (6 hour days, 6 days a week in the 35 degree heat and no A/C in their room which sounded exhausting). So a good place to stay but maybe not volunteer

I had such a great time here in El Paredon. The staff made me feel at home and I left with a lot of new friends. It is located right on the beach, the pool is fun and the views from the rooftop restaurant are amazing! Potato the micro pig was hilarious and does tricks. The food was delicious and for Q59 all you can eat is a steal of a deal. Definitely recommend Driftwood!

  • 4/5 Vince B. 1 year ago on Google
The location is impossible to beat. The hostel is directly on the beach, making it super easy to get to and from the water. The food is actually very good as well. The only downside is that if you’re looking for more of a relaxed beach and surf experience, probably not the move to stay here. It’s a party. But if you are, it’s perfect.

Had an amazing stay, most of the staff was super helpful and special thanks to Nadia and Dulce for being so adorable. The owners were also very attentive to our well being. Crazy how much value their smile can add to our stay. Can't wait to go back. Thanks xx

The staff were amazing and the overall atmosphere is electric . The wide variety of activities allows you to never be bored and meet many different people. Great location and nice accommodation. Spend a week there with my brother and really enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend to anyone going to Guatemala or El Paredón.

  • 5/5 Ruth M. 11 months ago on Google
One of the owners was a complete jackass to us and two of the owners were just generally very stuck up and not very helpful. But other than that this is one of my favorite hostels I’ve ever stayed at. The location is perfect, the atmosphere is lovely, and the volunteers are so kind and fun. Jose, Dominique, and Benji really made the experience super fun for us while we stayed. :)

One of the best hostels in El Paredón. Didn’t spend the night there, just enjoyed the pool, had drinks at the pool bar, played volleyball on the beach and enjoyed the beach for a day. Was super nice, front desk was just great, super friendly staff and lots of good times. Would go back there anytime. Thanks guys. Keep it up !

Driftwood, is the 2nd family! From my spotless room, to the buffet dinners and to die for breakfast and lunch, party's, beach and the pool. I can't sat enough :). The crew at Driftwood are the most welcoming and accommodating open family:) Especially Ale, the star! Who goes above and beyond!! I will be back asap. Love you guys!

One of the most fun hostels I stayed in within 7 months of travelling. The volunteers at the time were all really cool. The food was good and themed nights were also great. The party life there was also amazing! It’s an isolated place so very quickly you get to know everyone in the hostel. I came alone and soon felt at home here. Diana the manager is also very friendly

  • 5/5 Sam T. 1 year ago on Google
Travelled up and down Central America and didn’t find a hostel like this. Driftwood has unmatchable vibes, the staff are wonderful people that have so much to offer. The beach is great they have a good selection of surfboards, the dinner they do is amazing. 10/10

The location is great with a nice pool and hammocks on the beach. If you are looking for a place to party it's the place to be. But the rooms and facilities are lacking. Cleanliness isn't good, broken shower, no place to hang your wet clothes and many people in the dorm with lots of noise. I would recommend to sleep somewhere else and join the family dinner and other activities if you want to socialize.

  • 5/5 Alex R. 2 years ago on Google
It's super chill atmosphere, staff is amazing. Definitely would comeback again during the non rainy season. But had a great time

  • 4/5 Phil B. 11 months ago on Google
Great place ! The location is ideal, right in front of the beach, you can see the ocean from the balconies and people swimming and surfing there. Staff are friendly and the food is quite good. They rent surf board, and sell surf lessons which were very helpful. There is a beach volleyball court right between the hostel and the beach. Good wave to surf are right behind the hostel. Every night there are "family dinners" which are dinners that are there to socialize and get to know all other guests and staff and after dinner there is always something going on in the bar, wether it is trivia nights or other activities You have to know that people there like to party though. It is not out of control for sure, but it's a place that is good to have a good time with a few drinks. It is not too bad tho, the music will stop no later than midnight. It is also good to know that you cannot bring your own food or drinks there, but as others hostels they have free filtered water and ice. Comfort ans cleanliness are alright, they are not exceptional, but they are in no means bad at all. If you like to have a bit of fun, enjoy the beach, learn to surf and meet people it is a great place. I recommend it

My partner and I stayed at Mellow Hostel before coming here and we preferred this place so much more! Way nicer staff members who are incredibly inclusive with everyone! Maria, Thomas, Jose and Rusty are absolute legends! It’s a great location right next to the beach! Thanks for having us, Driftwood!

Awesome place for a couple days of chill and party! Right on the beach, really welcoming staff and fun activities. The food is delicious and the rooms are good. The best well thought pool, you'll understand when you see it;) don't forget your flip-flop, the sand and pavement is burning hot during the day! That's my only complaint really, couldn't be barefooted in the day...that says a lot haha
