(Translated by Google) ?The entrance to the Zoo is Totally FREE. ... The only day the facilities don't open is MONDAY. ... It is a zoo where you will be able to observe a great variety of animals of all types, from carnivores such as tigers or lions. ... There are herbivores such as giraffes, zebras, camels etc. and few marine animals like a sea lion. ... It lacks a little maintenance and the animals are not always seen since on occasions they are asleep or they are being fed. ... If they were already hungry inside the zoo they have a food area. ... They have parcels at $ 12 pesos all the time you are in this zoo, just be careful that the parcel is at the entrance, since there is another one a little further from the entrance that is more expensive. ... Everybody loves free admission. Seriously, it's great when public places are freely accessible for everyone. The zoo is really big and features a wide range of animals of all kinds. Unfortunately though, the compounds were anything but nice. Very dry or even concrete grounds and many of the animals were even suffering skin issues. It seems the animals do not get the best attention and are not necessarily held in a suitable environment. Snow leopards & penguins may not like 30°C as much as the giraffes or antelopes... Even the camels appeared in a poor condition. Weirdly, about a third of all compounds were simply empty: no lions, no tigers, not even goats... Hope they were cared for in the meantime. Overall it's a nice zoo to visit that even tries to advocate about ocean pollution, but if you visit, be aware that not even a panda can disguise the debatable conditions. Maybe we cann all speak more about ideal surroundings for the animals who call this planet home, just like we do!

What a fantastic zoo in the middle of the amazing Chapultepec forest / park. Went for my kids... Stayed the whole morning enjoying myself so much. It definitely surpassed my expectations. This is a free zoo, extremely well maintained, clean, with a good variety of healthy and mostly happy animals. Loved the abundance of vegetation and shade. There are 2 areas you have to pay for if you want to visit: the reptile and butterfly exhibits. They were fun and I was happy to pay for something, since the zoo is fantastic. Bathrooms are paid also, 6 pesos per person. There is a fully renovated food court. I highly recommend all families to give it a try.

Beautiful, beautiful zoo! Insane to think that this place charges no entry fee. It is the best zoo I’ve ever been to. As others have stated, when you first get to the entry there is an announcer and signs stating you have to check certain baggage, this isn’t true. You can kindly ignore and make your way into the zoo. While the zoo itself is FREE, there are a few extras that the zoo offers for $70-$130 pesos to look closer at certain types of animals (insects, butterflies, and snakes). We skipped it & still had a phenomenal time. So many different and lively animals! They really put on a show. The zoo has food for purchase (Domino’s, burger joint, traditional Mexican food, ice cream, snacks etc) however, since you are allowed to bring bags I’m sure bringing food in wouldn’t be a problem, as our bags were not checked. The zoo is in the midst of beautiful Chapultepec park grounds and there is also PLENTY to do upon exiting the zoo itself, including but not limited to an awesome playground, a carousel, etc. Bring spending money & WAIT to buy as there are vendors waiting with beautiful & fun items, all reasonably priced! You could easily spend a whole day there - we did!

Pro. The zoo is free. Cons. 1. Shark exhibition is a scam. We paid $199 (2 people) for less than one minute to be inside. No live shark at all!!! It is just a small museum. They should've written it somewhere. 2. Some parts smell really bad. They should clean the cages well. 3. To think about confined wild animals makes me always sad.

I love zoos and this was a top 3 favorite so far in my world travels. Great for solo travelers, couples, and families. I highly recommend you pay a visit to it. Also, the admission was free so that’s an added bonus. You won’t go wrong with planning a visit to this zoo. Plan a few hours, I took lots of pictures and videos and it took me about 2.5-3 hours to thoroughly enjoy the space. Only downside is there is a bird area that you can’t take bags into. Most travelers travel with a small back pack or for families, maybe a children’s diaper bag and this would not be allowed into the inclosure. If you go with friends/ or family you’d have to take turns to traverse that enclosure because no bags allowed. That rule does not apply to the entire zoo so I won’t knock them. I’m sure their rationale is logical, but I was unsure of what that rationale was.

(Translated by Google) There is little variety of species, but it is well preserved, the staff is friendly and there are hangers to leave your bag if you wish. There are baby ducklings behind their mothers. Different types of ducks live in the place. You can see the flamingos up close. There is a somewhat lonely Pelican. Some green and blue parakeets, one of them is super loud. The squirrels eat the fruit and seeds of the birds, but they are all in holy peace.

Our intent was to go to the anthropology museum on a Sunday but we ended up being to the this zoo as the museum was closed. Had a good time strolling around and check out the gigantic zoo. Looks like there are all sorts of animals and many breeds in them too. Very few of the enclosures are closed, we got to glimpse most of them. Monkeys were the most active one’s, some of them have even put up a show attracting a lot of crowd with their acts. Pandas were lazing, may be it’s time around lunch and all of them are sleeping. Missed checking out the giraffes. Be prepared to walk a lot as the zoo is super huge. Don’t forget to get water bottles. Admission is free for most part of it. Only to watch the butterfly and insect enclosures, we have to pay. Also, to use the restrooms. Generally maintained clean, most of the animals looked healthy. Must visit if you’re in the city.

This zoo is free and one of the best zoos we have been to. There are so many animals here from panda bears, tigers, capybara, flamingoes and so much more. We really enjoyed the axalotels here too! You can pay for other experiences here such as a bird sanctuary. Make sure you are sun smart while walking around and bring a lot of water. “Jonique Life” If you find value in our reviews please consider following our social media outlets on Facebook and Instagram as we highlight magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

Very good place to bring kids or for any animal lover. They have a lot of animals, like lions, bengala tigers, a lot of monkey species, American buffalo's, giraffes, a giant panda (which is quite unique as not many zoo have them), and much more. They also have the Axolotl museum, which is very interesting if you want to learn about this amazing creature and see them in real life. Things to know: 1) The zoo is free to enter, but there are some paid options if you want to visit the butterfly house or the snake house. (The cost is around $5 USD for each house) 2) I would recommend visiting the Axolotl museum (which is free), but keep in mind that there could be a little queue as they only allow 20 people every 15 mins. 3) If you are wondering if you can bring food and drinks inside, unfortunately, you can not. 4) There are food and drink places there, so don't worry. 5) The zoo is closed on Monday and try to visit in the morning as it can get busier after 11 am. I highly recommend visiting this zoo!

(Translated by Google) Wow, this zoo did surprise me, and that it is one of the few in the world that has a panda bear should speak highly of it. I have visited many zoos around the world and this one to be free has a lot that others do not have. It is worth coming to visit this zoo, if you live in the city it is something that you should have done already, because it is free. It has animals of all kinds, hippos, giraffes, tigers, bears, apes ... it is very wide, I did not finish seeing it completely and I got tired of walking. Apparently they are well cared for. I hope it is so.

Awesome place to walk around. The animals are out and about. There’s so much to see because this zoo is huge. Free admission. Connected to Chapultepec Park. You get to see the Panda from China which was pretty cool. There’s also other exhibits that cost extra like to see the butterflies or the snakes. Highly recommend this place if you have kids, for a casual date, or just have fun with family.

Nice free zoo, its really huge with a variety of animals. Although I'm not a big fan of zoos, my son enjoyed seeing it all. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to get lots of walking in. We had lunch at 1 of the cafes in the zoo along the way. The pay bathrooms that you cant get a stroller into are my main complaint. There should be family restrooms that you can pay & roll into bc if youre alone there's no one to leave stroller with to go through bathroom turnstiles. I asked to use the handicap restroom so I could bring my son in with me but the lady said no. I can spend a whole day at Bosque Chapultepec but I need to be able to use the restroom and take my 2 yo with me without leaving stroller outside unattended. You'll see alot of moms just change kids diapers on a bench due to this. We went on a Friday and it wasn't overcrowded.

(Translated by Google) It is definitely not the same as before, but I always enjoy coming, especially since I am a fan of diversity, especially Mexican. It is impressive to find a Snow Leopard and a Central American Tapir. It is a pity not to be able to see and know the elephants. I really hope that the administrators of this incredible space will pay much more attention or at least not drop this important place to raise awareness, especially children.

This has the POTENTIAL to be a world-class zoo... Great location, good size, nice exhibit structures, free admission. But sadly, it needs help. Many (actually most) exhibits have no animals and very few staff. Mexico could make this zoo incredible with some attention and funds, even if it means charging a reasonable entrance fee for adults or foreigners.

This zoo is loaded with exciting animals and makes for a great way to burn a few hours. Don’t fall for the scam lockers outside telling you they’re mandatory, you can bring your backpack in (minus food and soda) after opening your bag for security. The white tiger and monkeys look quite sad, but other animals have larger enclosures. Consider donating to keep this free gem operating and caring for the needs of the animals

It's free to visit but honestly, it's kind of depressing. The whole place is falling apart, the food vendors are all closed. But worst of all, the animals are kept in inadequate conditions, often completely isolated and they all appeared severely depressed. It seems like they are about to maybe close down? Apparently they have already moved some animals to other places and other than one young giraffe I didn't see any signs of attempting to continue breeding... Anyways, I'd rather pay to visit a zoo that actually takes care of the animals well.

(Translated by Google) Most of the birds are free and look very well taken care of, the bad thing is that sometimes you do not know which is which and the few that are in cages are also upset, if you do not know much about birds you do not identify them easily, the day that We went there were demonstrations of falconry (game birds) and they explain why we should not buy exotic species, since only 1 in 9 birds survive transport and handling before being sold. Very good work raising awareness.

Hands down the best zoo I've ever been to. It is free, which is amazing, and has a large variety of animals. Zoos usually make me feel a bit sad - seeing animals in captivity - but these animals all looked happy and healthy to me. They have well designed exhibits and lots of space. All of Chapultepec park is great but the zoo is a must-see!

The Chapultepec zoo is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. There is free entry to all. Some animals are only placed in display specific days and hours. The zoo has been facing a hard time with economic issues therefore it has been deteriorating it's overall quality. People love the Bengal tigers and the capuchin monkeys.

GREAT VISIBILITY of many different animals, FREE, well kept, clean, pretty quiet also both times i was there. The surrounding park area outside the zoo is expansive and beautiful and great for walking with your girlfriend/boyfriend or family. Neat little shops in the surrounding area also in designated pathways. Honestly, this "area" to include the surrounding area outside the park reminds me of Central Park in New York with it's massive size and beauty. We walked past a small lake and rented a little boat for an hour. Really, you can't go wrong with this. Use the zoo as your destination for wandering around and then explore the surrounding area as well. You'll hit it out of the park on this one!!!

(Translated by Google) Honestly, the Zoologist is no longer in its golden age the golden age because there are already areas that are already more than closed and they no longer have the inclusion of Elephants as I remember and where is the Panda Bear section I remember that there were several you could even approach the stained glass or glass not that now tubes separate you. The insect section at the beginning already charges you. To pass the time is fine but the sad thing is that little by little the Zoologist deteriorates.

(Translated by Google) If you come to visit Mexico City, the Chapultepec Zoo is a mandatory stop. It is quite large, there is a great variety of species and the best thing is that it is free, yes, they do not charge access. You can see the huge elephants, giraffes, hippos, tigers and even sea lions. An important point that I must mention is that they do not allow backpacks or any ostentatious bag to enter, for this, at the entrance of the zoo there is a dedicated area to leave your belongings, but it will be at your own risk, since they are not responsible for the loss, plus there is a cost for leaving belongings. Inside there are fast food outlets in case hunger betrays you. But if you are not into eating hamburgers you can eat outside the zoo where there is a wide variety of places that sell fast food, quesadillas, pambazos, flautas and even tacos. So if you are in Mexico City or from the interior of the republic or you come from another country, the Chapultepec Zoo is a mandatory visit.

The biggest attraction is the panda. That's why it's a good idea to choose a tour early in the morning, when he's not resting after eating :) The walk in the zoo is pleasant and sometimes you will see some animals (bear, monkeys, jaguars, tiger etc).

Spent about 3 hours wandering around the zoo. Some enclosures were a little sadder than others but over all they seemed pretty happy. Not a lot of fences to block your view. The monkeys all sat against the glass which made it nice and easy to see them. A lot of tigers!

We came towards the end of the day, and boy was it depressing. The zoo seems like it's on its way out. It was disappointing to find no lion and by the time we made it to the area with the tiger we weren't allowed to go in, despite the zoo not shutting for another 20mins. The enclosures didn't seem fantastic either. If you've got some spare time and are in the park, then it's maybe worth a visit. Otherwise you probably have a better zoo local to you in your own country.

(Translated by Google) There are not so many species anymore but it is fun to go in and see some species living with visitors. On the day of my visit I found a closed part for mating season and did not find some birds in the catalog. Seeing the flamingos is very amazing but I think they look better from the Aguila Real area. (Translated by Google) The last time I visited, there was no longer a passage to the aviary, only to the zoo. I love animals and it was a pity to see that all the animals are quite bad (skinny, dirty). They see that they no longer have the attention they need. they only give them food to survive and not to keep them in good condition. There are a lot of animals missing and inside the cages of other animals they put the birds to a few because they are not even all the ones inside the aviary.

This was my second visit to the Torre Latino. The views are amazing and they definitely do not disappoint. I recommend going in the evening an hour before sunset. So you get the best of daylight and nighttime views. Give yourself one to two hours. You want to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the views. There are also restaurants, a museum, and a souvenir shop to enjoy !

This park is 100% FREEEEEEEE! YOU DONT NEED TO PAY ANYTHING TO GET IN. This place is very large with lots of things to do. You can go check out the animal exhibit that is completely free however backpacks and food is not allowed inside the animal park. There is also a castle you can check out very famous with lots of history and a lake with little pedal boats you can rent for cheap. Come see this beautiful place that is family friendly and has lots of things to do and see and of course, EAT.

There is a place to store your bags before you enter. There is no food allowed inside so that helps with keeping it clean. There was no charge to get in but they charge for the bathrooms. It's awesome to see so many different animals! I was able to see almost all of the animals I visited. There is a lot of other things to do right next to the zoo too. I was glad I went.

Such an amazing experience! The zoo is giant and is free to everyone, it has so many animals!! There's many people selling food, toys, and souvenirs in the park! If you're visiting Mexico City I highly recommend coming to Chapultepec park and zoo, if you can I would recommend coming between Mon-Fri because it gets packed on the weekend...

Asked several zoo employees and there are no funds available ..no budget .... its a pitty becaise its a fabulous place to visit in Chapultepec but there's no interest in public funding this place... thas why no man carnivours and only mainly herbivores since its cheaper. It's a zoo, free, and it's fun for the kids, there are several animals to look at, but some are missing (there are no elephants) my son had a blast looking around and searching for the animals In their enclosures, some were easy to spot, some others were hiding behind some structures, those makes difficult to see the animals, Main problem was parking as the main. Street to access was closed and we had to walk a lot to get to the zoo

I really battle with the idea of wild animals in captivity and small spaces like this zoo. On the other hand I understand the importance of what they do. I rank this with 5 stars because it's free to enter so no one is profiting from caged animals. Also, this zoo was the first to successfully breed giant pandas outside of China. This is important to the survival of the animals and I understand the educational value that zoo's offer so while I dislike seeing the animals in small spaces, I appreciate the educational side of zoo's and their role in preserving endangered animals.

Chapultepec Zoo (Spanish: Zoológico de Chapultepec) is a zoo located in Chapultepec Park; it is one of four zoos near Mexico City, and the best known Mexican zoo. It was founded July 6, 1923 by Mexican biologist Alfonso Luis Herrera using donations from private citizens and governmental funds from the Ministry of Agriculture and Development, and also with funds from the Society of Biological Studies. The zoo houses almost 2000 animals from more than 200 species. The zoo is known for its success in breeding programs of threatened species, including: giant pandas (first institution outside of China to successively breed the species in captivity), California condors (first institution outside of the United States to successively breed the species) and Mexican wolves (first litter of cubs born to released wolves).

Amazing place to go to at night or sunset. The view is amazing! A 360 view, open air, and binoculars. However, it wasn’t the best observatory I’ve been to. It’s cramped and dirty. A LOT of people have the same idea to come here to see the view, and it’s not that big. Other than that, the view is definitely worth the 120 pesos, which is about $6-7. Somewhere you should definitely go to!

If you are in Mexico city you MUST go the Latino Tower, one of the best experiences you may have. The restaurant is a little expensive, but is worthy for the experience. Personal recommendation, is better in the morning because is less crowded.

  • 2/5 Théo M. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty sad to see big mammals such as tigers pacing up and down their cage non stop. Some animals have what seems to be descent size cages but for others I doubt it. I guess that's the same thing for a big number of zoos around the world...

  • 5/5 Jorge V. 2 years ago on Google
A must stop in case you're on town. Put your favorite tennis cause you will walk a lot! Expect to make a good amount of exercise. In case you get thirsty, there are different shops. Don't forget to buy your photograph! In case you want to preserve a good memory of Mexico City.

  • 2/5 Samuel W. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo has been greatly neglected and it's not even hidden. Many enclosures are not maintained, or contain no animals, signs are missing for the animals that are there or aren't even the correct ones according to the animals. Serious changes need to take place for this zoo to come even close to an attractive zoo. The only reason why it gets two stars is because it has a neat and well maintained butterfly section.

  • 1/5 E K. 2 years ago on Google
Nice that the parc is free for visitors, but the small cages for the animals are really bad. Left as soon as possible.

  • 1/5 Lema A. 2 years ago on Google
Didn't look like the animals were being taken care of. Extremely small and poor areas for each animal. Might be because the zoo was for free (we didn't knew that until we came inside). Went only to see the pandas but they weren't there (hopefully they were still alive)

very dirty, animals are living on fallen leaves and part of trees, crowded and noisy. actually mexican kids and adult behavior is tragic so animals are stressed. Actually i dont understand why Chinese gave them pandas to third world zoo :/ btw learn another language you are not alone on the earth!

  • 5/5 Monica S. 2 years ago on Google
Great! Big and with lots of vegetation and huge trees, so it looks a bit like a jungle. Lots of animals in appropriate cafes, and you can rent little push cars for small children. The zoo is free and you only pay for the butterfly house (about US$3.50). Worth a visit, plus it is infront of the magnificent Anthropology Museum.

  • 5/5 Gina J. 2 years ago on Google
So beautiful great variety of animal and the entrance was free

  • 1/5 Eyal R. 2 years ago on Google
Bad and sad zoo. All the animals are depressed, you can barely see most of them because they’re hiding. Butterfly section definitely not worth it.

  • 4/5 Irene T. 2 years ago on Google
We do.not agree with some of the reviews posted here complaining that the zoo is "sad" and in poor condition. We found it to be quite wellaintained, with large and creative enclosures and our only complaint was that we would have liked more signage. Some animals had no signs at all, or no descriptions. The giant pandaenclosure is huge and lush

  • 5/5 Taj M. 2 years ago on Google
Much bigger than expected, really chill, good mix of animals (though lots of different kinds of gazelles!), all in all a really pleasant place to take the kids for a few hours

  • 3/5 Ernesto G. 2 years ago on Google
Is not bad but there are a lot of guys trying to steal your money outside. I don't recommend walk alone or speak with the photographers or the people around the park. The best thing is the price ... FREE!!!

  • 5/5 Wensu C. 1 year ago on Google
Great variety of animals, it can get very crowded on Sunday. We saw giant panda, animals are very well taken care of and are in lots of action. There is no admission. We did counterclockwise tour and beat the crowd. Lots of street vendors outside and provide great selection of snacks and toys. Had lots of fun.

  • 4/5 G W. 1 year ago on Google
One of the best zoo I have been to. Lots of animals and very clean. I'm very surprised at how well it was maintained considering it is free admission. I hope more people would donate when they visit to help out. Every little bit from each visitor will go a long way. This is not a revenue generating zoo. Thank you very much.

  • 5/5 Karen T. 1 year ago on Google
It's to good to be true!! Is pretty, is awesome, there are many different animals. It's a good place to know more about animals!

  • 5/5 Axl R. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent experience for everyone. Both those of us we live nearby as well as those who don’t. You get to see a wide variety of animals and for FREE. The park-meters are used to share money (coins) to support the animals; but it would be great if they got emptied every day.

  • 3/5 Yenlin Y. 1 year ago on Google
It is quite frustrating, the place is in decline and the animals are neglected, too many vendors, street clowns and the whole area feels insecure, everything in the place is extremely expensive$$$$ The users are quite unpleasant, absolutely ordinary people and have a mixture with deluded foreigners. Everything looks terrible to show off or recommend going The exhibition of Insecta was disregarded with so much informal trade and current nefarious users Free synonym of nasty people So 😭

  • 4/5 Leonel G. 1 year ago on Google
Very good zoo with lots of animals. They seem to be well taken care of. I give 4 stars because a few of the enclosures were empty. You can go in for free.

  • 5/5 Jessica F. 1 year ago on Google
Best zoo that is free in the world. Puts the national zoo in Washington DC to shame. Sad america can't figure out how to have such a great zoo free to the public. Come on a weekday and it's wide open. Come on weekend and rub elbows with many city folks. Safe and clean bathrooms, at a cost. 6 pesos, is nothing.

  • 5/5 shadee v. 11 months ago on Google
I accidentally passed by the zoo on a Sunday morning & found out it was free!! So why not? To be honest, this is one of the best Zoo I've seen in my life. A large variety of animals in their natural habitat. Very clean. Entertaining. I wish we had zoo's like that in Canada. Did I mention it was FREE? Affordable food on site. Very family friendly. Beautiful activity if you're in Mexico city. Spend the day in the park so much to do!

  • 5/5 Leo M. 9 months ago on Google
A ver Beutiful zoo! I recommend it if u have some time to spare. It's a great place to take a light walk. Some exibits have a extra cost but it's definitely worth it.

  • 2/5 Spoon C. 1 year ago on Google
It’s great that it’s free to get into, but I have to say that’s where it ends. Lot of the animals look awfully underfed, many habitats were empty, and most all of them looked to be over grown and not well maintained.

  • 5/5 Sarah C. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely zoo that was relatively uncrowded on a Friday morning. The extra admission for the butterfly house was worth it. Make sure to bring coins to pay for the bathrooms.

  • 4/5 Hans G. 5 months ago on Google

  • 4/5 Linda M. 1 month ago on Google • 8 reviews New
Very nice. Entrance is free. But If you want to see the butterfly or insects or the sharks it is extra. Try to get there early when they first open or you will have a long wait. No food or drink ( except bottled water) is allowed in the zoo and they do check.
