Beautiful church with Baroque artwork and gilded walls. Well worth the time to step inside and admire everything, regardless of religious affiliation.

The Capilla del Rosario, located within the Templo de Santo Domingo in Puebla, Mexico, is an architectural masterpiece and a jewel of the Mexican Baroque style. It is considered one of the most stunning examples of religious art and craftsmanship in Latin America. As you step into the Capilla del Rosario, you are immediately greeted by a breathtaking display of ornate gold leaf, intricate woodwork, and vibrant colors. The chapel is lavishly adorned with sculptures, carvings, and paintings that depict religious scenes and symbols, creating a visually stunning and spiritually uplifting atmosphere. The exquisite craftsmanship of the chapel's interior is a testament to the skill and dedication of the indigenous and mestizo artists who worked on its construction during the 17th and 18th centuries. The use of gold leaf, intricate wood carvings, and colorful Talavera tilework showcase the fusion of European and indigenous artistic traditions, resulting in a unique and harmonious aesthetic. The focal point of the Capilla del Rosario is the stunning altarpiece, a masterpiece of Baroque art. It is adorned with numerous statues, including depictions of saints, angels, and biblical figures. The altarpiece is a magnificent example of the Churrigueresque style, characterized by its elaborate ornamentation and intricate detailing. The lighting in the chapel enhances the overall ambiance, with rays of sunlight streaming through stained glass windows, illuminating the golden surfaces and creating a mystical atmosphere. It is a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and spirituality of the space. Beyond its artistic and architectural significance, the Capilla del Rosario holds great historical and cultural importance. It is considered a symbol of the rich religious heritage of Puebla and an embodiment of the profound faith and devotion of the local community. Visiting the Capilla del Rosario is a captivating and humbling experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the skill and artistry of the craftsmen who created this masterpiece. It is a testament to the power of art and architecture to inspire and uplift the human spirit. In conclusion, the Capilla del Rosario in the Templo de Santo Domingo is a true gem of religious art and a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Puebla. Its ornate beauty, intricate craftsmanship, and spiritual ambiance make it a must-visit attraction for art and history enthusiasts alike. It stands as a testament to the creativity, devotion, and cultural fusion that define Mexican Baroque art.

A sumptuous chapel located inside the Church of Santo Domingo. You may pay 20 pesos for entry and its money well spent. There is always a line to see the pace because they are only allowing so many people at a time. Tee church is nice but the chapel is over the top, colonial baroque, with gold everywhere. Most impressive.

The chapel of the rosary has baroque architecture, is housed in the temple of Santo Domingo and is one of the most beautiful works of baroque novohispano in Puebla. It was worth this work that took 40 years to build, the Virgin of the Rosary in the church is also known as the patron saint of the seas because she is the Virgin of sailors and travelers and above the Virgin is the Santo Domingo and much higher is the Angel Gabriel, the chapel you can see what there are mermaids, scales, shells, dolphins, waves and fish. The gold used to decorate this church came from Guanajuato, it says that the gold came in powder form at 24 carats and the glue in those years was honey, egg whites, aloe, milk, cactus slime, the gold of the altar of the virgin has 23.5 carats of gold, while the gold of the rest of the chapel has 21 carats of gold. The chapel was considered the 8th wonder of the world and was declared Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. I highly recommended you to go, it’s so beautiful.

Free admission to enter the church. It looks beautiful from the outside and must be from the inside. It is located quite central and easy to find by walking. Entrance accessible for wheelchairs.

Absolutely beautiful and the side chapel is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. It’s a voluntary $20 pesos to enter that helps preserver the chapel. Highly recommend you get a tour so everything you see can be explained.

I was prepared for the decor when I checked it on Google, but it still blew me away when I saw the actual interior of the church. I think it is the most unique and beautiful church I've seen in Puebla.

A masterpiece of New Spanish Baroque, the Chapel of the Virgen del Rosario is a must see when visiting Puebla! Make sure to read up on the symbolism behind the chapel's architecture and decorations before visiting, as it will make you appreciate the experience even more.

We will be coming back in may because one of the parts of the church was closed for private events/services when we visited. This is an important detail because it’s the prettiest part of the church that gets closed! If you want to see this beautiful church in full don’t go on a Saturday when the best areas are closed for weddings. If you book a tour also make sure your tour doesn’t try to go during a known mass time. For example on a Saturday at noon almost every church in Puebla has mass and is closed to tours. For example Tips and Tours DMC which is a big tour company with buses all over the city and an office in the tourist information part of the municipal building will sell you a tour with hour long stops here and the main cathedral of Puebla then book them at like 11am so you see none of the churches and your hour per location becomes 5 minutes.

Ornate and so very beautiful. I had the place to myself as I got an early start that day. Many Mexican people seem to get started around 11.

Probably one of the most beautiful structures made from gold I’ve ever seen in my life.

Tremendously ornate baroque chapel that is richly decorated in a horror vacui style with plenty of gold gilding. Faces of cherubs and birds mix with the intricate patterns. A highlight is a Talavera rosary with protruding cherubs to count off the our fathers and hail Marys.

Very beautiful and the guide told us all about the chapel and even showed us the Don Quixote on the ceiling.

I wasn't expecting much as my better half dragged me into this cavernous church, but I was pleasantly surprised as it held wondrous sites. Being that it was Good Friday, I just wanted to find a place to meditate and contemplate the significance of the day. The church was relatively dark except for the altar and what seemed to be a beacon of light from a chapel to the left of the alter. As we entered it was as if encountering the doorway to the land of gold and artistic beauty. The statues and gold- leafed figures were mesmerizing as we beheld the chapel in it's golden splendor. My description could never do justice to the beauty of this chapel and church so I won't even make an attempt. Many posters have left great photos of the Capilla so you won't need mine. If you are in Puebla, make it a stop, you won't regret it.

The chapel is to the left of the main altar, before entering it there are two ornate reredoses with large size on both sides of the entry to the chapel already. As one goes further into the chapel, one is surrounded by the golden glow of the light coming from the cupola windows and the light reflecting from the gold decorations on every inch of the surface. If to impress is the goal to convert, I think it has achieved its purpose excessively. Taking apart, it could look quite gaudy, but when one is actually inside somehow it works, it's pure baroque in every meaning of the word. There is a voluntary donation requirement so you can pay as you please.

It's a shame that the Capilla is closed for private ceremonies !! It means rich people can pay to reserve it and prevent other people to access... the opposite of its initial purpose !! Are those mexican people responsible of the building understood the concept of "Casa de Dios" ??

Like many of the houses of worship throughout Mexico, la Cepilla del Rosario was visually stunning and well taken care of. The marble work, the gold leaf and the tile will all leave you slack-jawed. Certainly worth the visit during your explorations.

Very interesting place! Nice stories and barocco. The only people allowed to change Virgin Mary‘s dresses are ladies of a traditional group

Beautiful cathedral. Part of it was closed off when I was there, so I missed what looked to be one of the most beautiful areas.

This is such an amazing place! Although the visit it is just for a short time, due the high amount of people who is waiting outside, it's worth! Don't see necessary the fee you have to pay once inside, that's why I rate this place with 4 stars!

The Chapel was stunting, I have never seen such thing anywhere else before. The only thing that I didn't like was the "voluntary" donation (20pesos) I had to make in order to be allowed in the chapel. It is literally a blackmailing, because they don't issue you ticket or receipt or anything.

Wow!! Be sure to visit. It was 18p each at the time we were there.

A beautiful work of art, with its ornaments in 24k Gold, the structure, size and others make it a work of art from the time of the 16th century as a Masterpiece.

  • 5/5 Daren T. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing place. We were only allowed into the golden part after making a " voluntary " donation of at least 20 pesos per person. But worth it.

I’m not a church fan normally but the architecture and baroque features worth a visit and perhaps the jewel in Puebla. $20 mxn to see the side chapel, best money spent in months. Enjoy
