Beautiful venue, but small collection. For the size of the building, I was expecting more artwork. However, the collection was pretty limited. There are two levels of artwork, but on each level, I’d say only about 50-60% of that real estate goes towards showcasing art. The rest of the rooms/floors were closed off. In addition, there was an additional fee to take pictures in the museum. Note that this includes phone pictures and that staff will frequently go up to you to verify your photo taking eligibility.

For what they charge for the entrance fees this place offers so so much to see... the paintings, the sculptures. Very impressive. Well maintained architecture. Book stall in front of the museum is a must visit too

Very impolite people and not worth it, Suomaya museum is so much better. Hopefully on Sunday it's free, so don't need to pay entrance fee, even foreigners. Btw, the museum is full of security guards and they will be looking at your smartphone's screen so you don't have any privacy. Muy groseros y no vale la pena, el museo Suomaya es mucho mejor.

Beautiful museum in a historic and impressive building. We happened to visit on a Sunday, so admission was free. I'm not sure what they normally charge, but the museum is worth a visit one way or another. I really enjoyed seeing a few more Diego Rivera pieces.

An extraordinary museum, a must visit if you’re in CDMX. The architecture is beautiful, you’ll want to take pictures in every floor. I payed a little fee to take pictures so I didn’t feel any guards chasing me as I read on another review. The expositions were about mexican culture without showing much about colonists as the exhibit in Chapultepec castle. You need at least 3 hours to visit it entirely.

Awesome experience. Beautiful place. Great exhibits. It was a little weird that if you want to take pictures, it’s allowed, but you have to pay an extra 10 pesos. Not a big deal but some people were charged and some people weren’t so it was just strange. But definitely worth it to pay the 10 pesos and take pics because the building is remarkable.

I really wasn't all that impressed with this place. As someone else said, the building is huge (and has nice staircases) but not enough art to fill it. This is especially true on the top floor (2 floors of art). Lots of space and largely empty rooms, and the art is mostly of the same theme (religious) and of a similar style and time period. The lower floor (2nd piso) has a wider range of art to see in styles across the 19th and 20th century as well as some sculpture. Themes vary. I wasn't struck by anything but perhaps an art history person will readily identify the different movements that differentiate the styles (even I could clearly tell the differences) and enjoy the works. I did like a couple of pieces here and there, but I just was underwhelmed overall and had higher expectations especially when seeing the line around to the back of the building on Sunday (free entry day I think). I went on Wednesday with no line. If you go, don't wait in a long line. It isn't worth it.

Absolute must visit place for art lovers. It's well maintained place with good collection. On Sundays admissions are free and the photography charge of MX $ 5 us charged if you want to take pictures. Had art content from 16th century up to now ..some Rivera paintings were on display. They had fashion items from past and few sculptures as well. I enjoyed this place and suggest around 4 hours if you are keen to learn about the artists.

This is my favorite Museum in Mexico City, maybe it’s the palatial facade? Most probably it’s the Grand staircase tho. The painted ceiling is a dream right out of imperial Britan, or something you’d see in Vienna. Very highly recommendable and a must see in the city.

Great art museum focused on European colonial art and later work from artists such as Diego Rivera and Rodrigo Pimentel. The building itself is stunning, and some of the finest works are ceiling murals - look up! Good for an approximately two-hour long visit depending on your pace.

We visited on a Sunday and to our surprise the entrance was free. We where not allowed to take pictures from every collection. The building was beautiful, consisting of three levels. The first collection consisted of modern art with a couple of pieces of post modern. For me, being European, this was an extremely interesting experience. The pieces were heavily influenced by the native culture. Images of humans and animals in vibrant colors and wild expressions. 10/10 The second collection consisted mostly of sculptures inspired by the classical period. There were also some paintings from the enlightenment period. The third one was an exhibition of the artist Petrona Viera.

It is a good museum but everything is only in Spanish. It is free on Sunday. I went around 3 pm and there was no line. Also there is no sign showing museum name. Building name is “Secretaria de Comunicaciones”. The architecture inside the building is beatiful, especially stairs.

Stunning eclectic architecture from the early 1900 period, I would say very inspired on Neoclassical and Renaissance architecture. Interiors are astonishing, it's the National Museum of Art, so expect to see Mexican Art from the Viceroy era all the way to the 50'. I visited a temporary exhibition by interiorist Olga Hanono about Art and Color, blending interior design with art. Very unique.

Security in this museum very strict. They are giving stress for every small reason. (Put your hat with a cap backwards, put your back pack in front, dont come to close to the painting, dont make a pictures) but when I lost 1000 pesos in cash nobody didnt said a word to me! Place was nice but I couldnt enjoy because security was always disturbing me.

The building is awe inspiring, made in 1911 by Italian architects, build for the 100 year anniversary of the Mexican independence (but finished a year after that). The museum installation are a perfect blend of classic and modern, expositions are beautifully curated and tours are made by the curators themselves. Can't miss this, one of the most important and beautiful buildings in this city

It is an excellent place to admire art and the architecture. There are temporary and permanent exhibitions. It's opening was in 1982 and the re-opening in the year 2000. At the entrance, outside the building, there is the piece of art "Little Horse", a metallic sculpture from 1802, created by the Spanish Manuel Tolsa, weighing 45,000 kilograms which represents Carlos IV as a Roman emperor. After many moving, It was placed there in 1979.

The Museo Nacional de Antropología is one of my favorite museums in the whole world. It is huge, 23 halls. I would recommend to take 2 or 3 days to visit it other wise you will be burnt out by the end of the day. If you have only a day, visit the Teotihuacan, Mexica and Maya halls first. The Mexica hall is the one in the middle at the end of the patio. It has the famous Aztec calendar and Coaticlue statue. It has also many beautiful snake and jaguar statues as well.

Amazing building which by itself is fully worth a dedicated visit, or at least a special stop on your tour of Mexico City downtown. And then its fascinating collection. We have mostly seen (and enjoyed immensely) the museum collection of XXth century. Unfortunately, most of the people even including those interested in the modern art, don't know much about Mexican XXth century artists; Frida Kahlo being the only (or almost only) exception, by and large due to her tumultuous and tragic life. Diego Rivera is the second well known Mexican artist and David Alfaro Siqueiros is the third one, also largely due to his attempt to assassinate Leo Trotsky. However, there are so many more diverse and greatly talented Mexican artists who produced magnificent art larger than life and which MUNAL proudly presents. Highly recommended.

A must see if you are in Mexico City. So worth the price. What a place . I’m speechless the art the architecture the sound the history. The perfect place to experience art

Loved the building itself, the architecture, more than their exposition. You can easily spend 2+ hours if you read each and every drawing description. On Sundays they play the piano.

Wheelchair accessible entrance and elevator to access the exhibit floors. There are tiny steps to enter most of the exhibition halls. The bathrooms are basically accessible if you can get over the small step up from the hallway. If you're mostly interested in the Mexican art like us, then you can skip the bland European art on the top floor and go straight to the 1st floor.

Spectacular building. Also check out the little alleyway bookstore right in front of the building while you’re here!

One of the best places to enjoy art whenever you're in the downtown area. If you are lucky, you might catch up a concert. Don't forget to take a lot of pictures.

Lots of incredible art but the building itself is quite the highlight. Take the time to look up and look close. It doesn't disappoint if you have the patience to appreciate it for what it offers.

Building is lovely and probably the best part. Personally thought the art exhibitions were little disappointing. Also nothing was in English, so we couldn't read anything and subsequently were a little board after about 30 minutes. Also seemed an unnecessary amount of staff watching your every move. The other museums in the city are much better.

The national museum has some famous pieces, but overall is overshadowed by more famous attractions like the Museum of Anthropology, Bellas Artes, and Templo Mayor

  • 5/5 Michael M. 10 months ago on Google
Undoubtedly worthy! I do recommend you don’t by then pass to take pictures & just sneak a picture when the staff is not looking. I do think the extra money for a pass to take a pictures is unfair because well besides looking at the art that is the only other reason one would venture to a museum. Just pay the standard fee & I promise it is worth your money!! The line to get in moves very quickly!

Great museum, not as crowded as others and well worth it. The entrance is smooth and the architecture is gorgeous. You can enjoy it in a fast visit to centro. They have a permanent collection of mexican artist and a temporary hall with artwork that is very interesting.
