Don’t understand the bad reviews that are on here - do note advanced booking is required as stated on the website and new tickets are released on Tuesdays 4PM Mexico time. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and even though our group had lots of questions and the tour overran a little, he took the time to explain everything. The insights into Barragan’s life and his style were interesting. If you like architecture, I highly recommend this museum.

Beautiful and peaceful house of Barragan offering great guided tours. Count around one hour and a half for the visit and enjoy some time in the small shop. Only two things could be improved: the booking system is really bad, bugs all time and also the price to take photos is excessive 500 pesos (more than the entrance). Other than that the visit is worth a tour to understand the history and legacy of LB.

The house is beautiful, it would be better to be able to go through the house alone since the guided tour interferes with the experience more that it enriches it. The price is out of proportion, a single entry for nationals ($338) is almost worth a two-day minimum salary in Mexico, and is close to the price of the Louvre (€17=$397), this without the photography permission which is $500 (=€21) for a total of $897 (€38) a visit… outrageous

Excellent tours limited to 10 visitors. Note that you must book a timed tour in advance on the website, but they offer tours in both Spanish and English which is great. Keeping the groups to a small size makes it very intimate and special. Since this was a residence, it was never meant for crowds, and so this strategy is appropriate and respectful. Photography inside is permitted for a small fee. There is a gift shop with some excellent book selections and an open-to-the-public (no ticket required) garden across the street. This was one of my favorite experiences in CDMX.

We had an amazing tour with a very well educated and charming guide, who was able to answer all questions. The groups are small, so book ahead. The house is very interesting and you get to see almost everything. The photography fee is quite high, 500 pesos, I would say rather skip it and buy a nice book about Barragan.

Went on the site at 5:30pm to buy tickets as instructed by the website and it was sold out in less than a minute. Every single ticket for every day that week was sold out by 5:31pm. This must must be some corruption with the museum ticket office letting a bot or 3rd party tour guide buy them all?! So so disappointed as have been looking forwards to this for months. I would like an answer from the museum on what is happening with buying tickets as I’ve read similar reviews from months ago online. I can’t be the first one to complain?

It's a dream of every architect to visit this wonderful house of Luis Barragán. Our guide was fantastic! He explained each and every detail for us during the tour. The house is well maintained in its original condition. If you want to visit, I recommend getting tickets at least two weeks in advance as they run out pretty quickly. You won't regret your decision if you have an eye for excellent architecture.

The price of admission is high compared to other museums in Mexico City, and you NEED to make a reservation. It was about the same price as Frida's house, and like La Casa Azul, you also have to pay extra for photography. But it was still VERY cool to see a living museum, (Yes people still live there) and the art Luis Barragán surrounded himself with. Don't forget to check out the free exhibits adjacent to the main museum, put your butt in every seat in the chair room.

Good design is so rare these days. Barragan has a way of manipulating space and natural lighting that I've never experienced before. This was a magical experience. Being inside this casa that he lived in for 40 years, you feel like you're a part of something much bigger than yourself. Like you're in the presence of magnificence and splendor. This is heaven for people who appreciate architecture.

Great tour! Very inspiring and amazing emotions in every room. Plan ahead so you can get tickets as they run out fast and groups are small. If you’re taking photographs, the photos permits are 500 pesos.

No doubt a beautiful house. However, the fees are outrageous, compared to…well, any other museum in the world (£40 in total) 🤷‍♂️ $500 entrance fee for foreigners and a $500 fee to be allowed to take photographs (which, as it turned out, was pointless to obtain as everyone took photos anyway and the guides didn’t care😂).

Pricy for such a underwhelming experience. You have to purchase photo permit for 500 MXN, which is a total rip off. You also have to buy a informational leaflet for another 100 MXN to at least have some information, because there is literally none in the house, you don't even know in which room you are. The staff also need some lessons in customer facing skills... If you arrive a minute late, you are not allowed to proceed with your group (they are just 10 seconds from the entrance, watching a completely useless video of don't during the visit)...

(Translated by Google) The house is perfect, the guided tour is quite bad. It is focused on the replacement of the works of the house that Barragán had by current artists. The time per room is short and even paying permission to take photos is difficult to take photos to keep up with the guide. The visit to Casa Gildardi is much better (Original) La casa es perfecta , la visita guiada bastante mala .

Extremely poorly managed. The doors were open to the street and unattended, so we walked in. A person chased us down told us to exit, then she led us to enter into another door, then immediately told us to leave again, and said book online for a tour later that day. But the website said tickets were sold out for the entire month. While we were there, we witnessed another person turned away with no refund for a ticket she had purchased online, but the online booking tool malfunctioned. If someone builds a replica of this house and manages it better, they would make a lot of money, including from my visits.

Booking tickets ahead of time is a bit of a hassle (they only open up one week at a time) but so worth the effort to experience this tour. There were four people in our group (all Americans) and our guide Pepe graciously switched to giving the tour in English for us. The home is absolutely stunning inside! Photos don’t do it justice—go visit!

An educational, informative and entertaining visit to a remarkable studio and residence. The guided tour is limited to 6 people or less so you can ask all the questions you desire. Highly informative guide who is anxious to please and share info. Big recommendation...make your reservations in advance, they sell out very fast. Tickets for each following week are released on their site every Tuesday at 4:30pm local time. I.thoroughly enjoyed my visit!

Unlike most museums in Mexico, this one sells out weeks to months in advance. I’m guessing tour groups for foreigners buy all the tickets and they don’t leave them for ordinary tourists, and there’s probably some corrupt deal between the tour groups and the ticket office. Really disappointing.

Very interesting tour, make reservations online far in advance; only ten people allowed in each group. Check out the garden he designed across the street, no charge and no reservations required. The photos are from the Garden. To take photos in the house was an additional charge.

Beware. I never got to see inside, I purchased a ticket a week in advance and even had a charge on my credit card. Apparently the transaction was not recorded on their end and they would not let me join the tour. And I have to dispute the charge on my card. The only spaces available were for the following week, after I left.

What an experience! We took the Spanish tour even though we don’t know Spanish (there were no slots for the English one during our visit). And it was totally worth it! Definitely wouldn’t miss it and will go back if I have the chance. PLUS important to know that even if there are no open visits while in Mexico City, his garden is open for free and there is a free architectural and design Museum next door!

An enchanting reprieve from the bustling metropolis We’ve read some negative reviews about pricing, unavailability of tours, and bad guides. Our experience was the opposite. We showed up without booking and asked if there were any places left and got lucky. Though the tour at that time was supposed to be in Spanish, the guide (Stefan) switched to English to accommodate the group. He was very knowledgeable and made the relatively hefty price worth it. He really took the time to answer all our questions and his passion for the Barragan’s work was infectious. Perhaps not a must on your first visit to Mexico City, but certainly one of the most unique places this city has to offer.

I’m sorry but this is absolutely no way to run a business. Why bother putting detailed instructions about getting in person tickets the week of Christmas/New Years when you are going to completely ignore them, forcing people to waste a half a day to get to the museum by 11:45 to pick up tickets by 12:45, which is when you said you would be distributing them, only to find it was all a lie and tickets were distributed at 10:30? What a complete waste of time.

Please note, you MUST book a visit online at least a week in advance to be able to visit the main house on a private tour. The garden however is open to all and definitely worth a visit. Casa Studios Luis Barragán is a stunning residence, designed by the renowned Mexican architect Luis Barragán, showcases his distinctive style and creative genius. The interplay of light and color is simply breathtaking, creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere. The meticulously manicured gardens surrounding the house add to the overall beauty and serenity of the place. The guided tour offers valuable insights into Barragán's vision and the significance of his work. Casa Studios Luis Barragán is a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts and anyone seeking inspiration in the realm of design.

The house is beautiful and very interesting. The guided tour is very superficial and lack depth, and even sometimes doesn’t feel accurate. They charge an extra fee of 500$ on top of the 600$ entrance to take photos, which seems unreasonable, as it is not advertised anywhere. On top of that, this fee goes for “one device only” according to their policy. It seems to me that they are just trying to rip of visitors the most they can and that is unfortunate.

Wow. A rare glimpse into the home environment of a trend setting architect and design mind. Our guide, she was awesome explaining all about each space we were in and how it relates to Luis Barragan’s vision for his house, adjoining spaces, the light and the outdoors. We were engrossed the entire time. It lasted a good hour. You must make reservations at least 1 month in advance just to be safe. It was a busy weekend so we visited on a Tuesday midday. It rained a touch so we were limited in time on the roof patio. Also they charge a fee of $25 USD ($500 pesos) to allow camera into the museum during the tour. We opted not to which allowed us to enjoy the guide and the spaces without worrying about getting photos when people left each area. But next time I might pay to play! Across the street is a garden where some of these photos are from.

Amazing experience! Our guide was great and answered extra questions. She is interior architect so she has good knowledge of the field. The ticket is pricy but it’s worth it for preserving the building. Keep in mind that they charge extra 500 pesos for taking pictures, that’s for me the only bad thing. The booking system has to be more efficient, right now it’s confusing. You can visit only if you book your spot online.

The admission fee is quite high compared to better museums and attractions in CDMX. The $500 peso charge (additional to the admission fee!) to be allowed to take photos inside the house is outrageous and a total ripoff since the place isn't that unique and it's a rather small tour. And the cherry on the cake is that the tours are only conducted in Spanish without any resources in any foreign language. Not the best experience for sure.

Very beautiful place but the prices are outrageous ($ 500 per person) + $500 per device to take pictures!!! This is not intend to allow the acess to everyone... We were also chocked that a woman was refused to enter because she was with her child, younger than 12 years old, the minimum age to access the museum - the reason wad that the child could disturb others.

An insult to the memory of Luis Barragán. Terrible customer service. The door was slammed in our face as the tour was starting with no explanation. Then I was yelled at not once but twice by a very aggressive young man. As a customer and guest this is not the way to be treated. I spoke to the manager who did not seem to care ! Unfortunately- as the tour guide was very nice and the house is ravishing. Hopefully the staff will improve to be at the level of the house. Right now there is a problem to be resolved.

Amazing architect would be alarmed to know they charge everyone $25 to take pics. At least come up with student and artist rates for it please. Or let them take it for free. I brought my 86 yr old mother from London who used to live in Mexico to see this exhibition. We had already come the day before and despite Google saying it was open it was closed. The 3 staff on the door were totally out of order, telling us to buy tickets on line then 5 mins later saying there were no tickets left for that day. Incredibly funcionario, no customer care whatsoever, in fact it felt like they just wanted to go home early. Apparently the 16.00 close time is for the shop not the museum! So careful. Totally the worst experience in CDMX so far in a country full of lovely people. Definitely not what Luis Barragan stood for. Great shame.

The area is pretty dodgy. The experience is super pricey. They also charge an additional 500 pesos for pictures claiming its to buy rights to the design of the house... the design isnt anything special to pay for! Very quick to walk around. Dark. Boxy. Underwhelming experience! Not impressed at all.

  • 3/5 Nicolas K. 6 months ago on Google
No doubt an incredible work by Barragan. However, the management of the place (apparently by the barragan foundation) is highly questionable. The high prices were quickly forgotten after the intricate online ticket purchasing process, which is more reminiscent of a festival ticket auction than a building visit. (Properly with an appointment in the calendar to not miss the 5 minutes time slot where Tickets are available). We happily entered the architectural marvel until we were pointed out in a disproportionately serious mood, which was more reminiscent of a visit to a maximum security prison, that an additional 500 pesos had to be collected for taking photos (mobile phone). The tour guide now told us his unfortunately woefully needy knowledge while we walked through the mesmerizing rooms. Which was fine but not worth the price. It all ended with another ticket check when leaving the high-security track. All in all, Barragán would certainly have been very sad about this legacy. (His business instinct would be satisfied, however.)

I visited this beautiful house many years ago, and the prices, the ticket sales, the web site and the the guided tours were completely different. I called (yes by phone) a couple of days before my visit, I made an appointment, went to the house, paid for the tickets and we had a great visit. The design of the house was impressive, together with the art and the colors used to paint the house. At the end of my visit I bought two printings from a young Mexican artist that I still have in one of the walls in my house. I was so impressed with my visit that two years later I went to visit El Convento de las Capuchinas en Tlalpan, and the experience was the same.

Beautiful house. However the guide was quite inexperienced, and it sounded outrageous having to pay 30usd extra for each device you wanted to take pictures withd

El museo es muy bueno y la explicación detallada, pero alusivamente nos cobraron 500 MXN ($25) si quieres tomar fotos. Deberían no cobrar o aunque sea estipularlo en el website. The museum is really good and the explanation tour as well; however, they charged 500 MXN ($25) if we wanted to take pictures. It is the first time that I get charged extra to take pictures at a museum (on top of the entrance fee). They should NOT charge this or at least specified in the website.

The tour was incredible and very informative. I didn’t know much about the architect before going but I have a new found appreciation for his style and choices now. You have to book the tour well in advance online (at least a month or two) and they go fast! The English tours are only a few times a day so pay attention to which ones you are booking. There are no cameras or phones allowed on the tour. But you can take pictures of his garden across the street and that’s free to enter whenever, no reservation needed. P.S I highly recommend checking out the Archive gallery and cafe next door!!! It’s free and open to the public.

Amazing place to visit. Be sure to book your ticket well in advance as there are only 6 slots available per tour. Still worth a visit strolling the impressive garden across the street if you don't get a ticket. Warning that the staff can seem a bit hostile and petulant.
