Kool place to visit. Learn the history and the variety of different tequilas. Get to sample some of the good stuff too!

Tequila and Mezcal Museum is a cute little museum. It has two floors. On the upper floor, is the museum. In the ground floor, there is a bar. The process of making tequila and mezcal is demonstrated in a nicely manner. There is a lot of collections of different types of Tequila and Mezcal bottles with different brands. In one of the bottle even there was a snake inside. The most interesting part is the tequila and mezcal tasting which is demonstrated at the bar.

A nice place to spend an afternoon downtown. The museum explains pretty well what tequila and mezcal are, how they used to be produced back in the day, how it’s done nowadays etc. But you’ll have to do the reading because there’s no guided tours. If you know nothing about tequila, you’re going to like it, but if you’ve visited Tequila in Jalisco or other places with tours, agave fields etc. I’d say skip it. The tasting is just two half-empty shots, but that’s alright with me, the entrance costs only $3USD. Didn’t like birria at the restaurant, and waitresses had a “ok whatever” attitude. This is not the safest neighborhood in the city, so don’t wander around, especially after sunset. If you go there during the day, it’s ok to walk. I’d rather uber there if it was after 6 pm.

I fully recommend booking a guided tour with “Get your Guide”. It’s $15 and includes a knowledgeable and passionate guide as well as 5 generous tequila and mezcal tastings. I would Uber there, but if walking, take the longer route- the short cut led us through some run down neighborhoods. Don’t miss out! This museum- tour is 100% worth it!

I genuinely underestimated how informative this museum was going to be. I admit, before we arrived I thought: "we'll get a little knowledge and some shots", but it was so much more than that. The exhibits show the history of tequila and mezcal, the manufacturing process and explain the links of these liquors to the music and culture of not just Mexico but the region. Aside from the museum being informative, we enjoyed the upstairs space (a sort of bar/outdoor cafe) where we had our tequila and mezcal samples.

Well... the museum and gift shop are cute. The restaurant is decent. The issue for me is the surrounding area is shady and some of the vendors/solicitors/beggars were aggressive, it was actually a bit overwhelming. The plaza it's located in seems to be a place that the local addicts, drunks and hobos hangout/live. If I'm being honest, it didn't feel safe... however we did go after dark about 7pm... perhaps the energy is different during the day. We did get so cute pictures in the museum and had a quick tasting. Tours must be pre-arranged otherwise you're on your own.

Amazing hot spot to hangout after dinner. For 60 Mexican dollars, you get to your the museum, learn about Mexican tequila and mezcal production, followed by a tasting. They offered award winning mezcal along with tequila. Then, right below there's a mezcal restaurant with great food. It is especially fun to come here on the evening because you can hear all the Mariachis serenade you :)

I enjoyed it! It’s small, quick and to the points. DO NOT BUY ticket on Expedia or online booking sites, you’ll pay $25 USD when in person it’s only $3.60USD and includes exact same thing-tour with guide in your language if available and tasting of mezcal and tequila.

Very nice place located right at the famous Plaza Garibaldi with a great variety of tequilas and mezcal. Prices were fine to me and the seller was very knowledgeable and friendly. They have very nice souvenirs to take with you for good prices. You can learn a lot visiting this place and paying for the tour. In the same building are restaurants to eat, mariachis that sign for you for a fee. Outside is crazy with the mariachis and locals, but that’s not part of this review lol! I had a great and unforgettable time :) Highly recommended!

The museum was very nice, clean and well managed. The restaurant upstairs was welcoming and I enjoyed a nice afternoon up there. Since the polution was so bad the weekend I came to visit, there were many people at the museum which made it very relaxing.

The museum is very cool and informational. I highly recommend you get the tour with the tasting at the end. When you are downstairs you will be bombarded by street vendors and mariachis. Be ready to say "no quiero" a lot

Tequila definitely deserves a much bigger experience although you might not find anything better than actually going to the place where it was born so this should do fine for most tourist or big city dwellers. Mezcal also gets a spot but no real appreciation for pulque. The price of the ticket includes a free sample of tequila and mezcal but anything else will be expensive.

One of the most fun museums I have been in. They explained how tequila and mescal was made and let us experience the difference in their tastes one by one. However, the guiding was all in Spanish, so it is good to have someone to translate if you don't know Spanish.

Waste of time.. Tiny self guided/read some wall posters and bar downstairs. Tasting was pathetic and if you try order a drink - takes forever for something basic. Better to taste Tequila and Mezcal in a shop that sells it. Not sure how this has such high ratings.

Small but informative! No photos allowed inside the museum but good displays and videos about the tequila and mescal making process. Learned a lot! There's two ticket options, one with a single sample of tequila and mescal, and one with a longer, guiding tasting. We did the single sample and they serve it at the bar and restaurant area. The bar sitting area is open to Grimaldi Plaza which is where Mariachi musicians gather so you can enjoy your samples while hearing them play. Hours were hard to find but we also visited around Christmas so I think they're typically as advertised.

Great museum with knowledgeable guides. I was the only English speaking visitor at the time and got an English guide that showed me around and talked about what to focus on when buying/tasting tequila and mezcal.

Good place to try out a bunch of different tequilas! We skipped the museum portion but it is only $4. We had drinks in the restaurant but enjoyed listening to the Mariachi bands down in Garbaldi Square! There is also a bunch of street food in the neighborhood!

The museum was underwhelming. Just a single room of descriptions on how tequila is made. At least you get half a shot of mezcal and half a shot of tequila with each ticket.

  • 5/5 Pushppreet C. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best experiences I ever had. Though the museum upstairs doesn't have much to offer except for - Storyline of how tequila is made and past and present of the manufacturing process. However the cafe is insane, they have an amazing collection of Tequilas and other spirits, cocktails are to die for. And the shop inside has an insane variety of Tequilas and souvenirs at very reasonable prices.

The museum is very small, not really well thought of. It feels very shallow. At the end there was a tasting of one tequila and one mescal served as shots. There were not very good and we even did not see the bottles. It’s unfortunate because the venue has a lot of potential for a much better experience.

Total tourist trap. Nothing interesting in the museum and it is very tiny. The $60 pesos ticket comes with two tastings but it’s not high quality. Unless you are in the Garbaldi square, dont bother paying a visit.

Ricardo was an excellent guide of the Museum of Tequila and Mezcal. The tour was extremely informative and interesting. He was ready to answer every question we had and having a private tour made our experience of the museum even more enjoyable! You can book the tour through GetYourGuide

Cute little museum upstairs which focuses on the production process of tequila and mezcal. A side wall has a few hundred bottles showing the variation in branding. The ticket price of 120MXN includes a small tasting in the bar downstairs, overlooking the square.

Lovely visit! Small but informative. The staff is INCREDIBLE (so SWEET) and the tasting/restaurant is fantastic. The cocktails are great and the food is solid. The area is a bit sketchy, so would recommend going in the daytime and Uber-ing there/back.

Must do if you’re in CDMX and love tequila/mezcal. Highly recommend the guided tour and tasting with the tour guide Alejandro. He is incredible knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and really knows his stuff. Amazing experience!

  • 2/5 Claudia E. 1 year ago on Google
We visited it during the day (around 1ish), we were very disappointed actually. The place is small, they explain the production process through some texts on the wall. There are a collection of mezcal bottles on the other side. All with all nothing a 5 minute YouTube video + a visit to a liquor store couldn't do better. We heard from friends it was nice so all with all actually disappointed. Only upside is that it's pretty cheap. Also didn't get to taste any mezcal/tequila. Maybe if we a payed tour it would live up to the mostly positive reviews here? Also wouldn't suggest going alone/at dark since the area is very shady.

It is an interesting and informative knowledge of the drink but wish it was less of a sales tactic and they included samples. The location is interesting with the musical history and you can get song with your beer.

We had a work event here. It was a nice atmosphere. Drinks were good most of the food was good ! Tequila tasting was amazing 🤩 Service was a little slow, music was VERY loud, and we had to ask four separate times for the check

This review is for the tour and tasting not the general museum: Alejandro (sorry if I spelled the name wrong) was a fantastic host. He had a real depth of knowledge and great sense of humour. The tour had a great pace (not too fast or slow) and then ended with some very generously poured tasters. It’s definitely worth the money if you’re into tequila and mezcal!

  • 4/5 Kenneth P. 1 year ago on Google
Thorough explanation in the museum...the tequila and mezcal in the end are the most basic versions and nothing special.

  • 5/5 Zinnia X. 1 year ago on Google
Great museum with history of tequila, mescal and (surprisingly) also an exhibit in mariachi music which I enjoyed! We learned a lot about the process of making mezcal and tequila and it ended with a tasting of each! Highly enjoyed.
