Perfect if you just look for a small museum. It's charming & pretty, just takes about an hour to explore and has some interesting exhibitions and informations about chocolate and the mayans & aztecs to offer. The price is 80 pesos, for students 50 (also for foreigner students). They have good WiFi & toilets and I definetly would recommend to enjoy a hot chocolate and one of their chocolate pieces in the little café after the museum. It's very good quality and some hot chocolates are made in the old traditional way for example with chilis :) Sometimes they also offer workshops to make chocolate.

Absolutely love this place! It is a small sweet perfectly sized museum. At the price of 90 per adult you can’t go wrong. You can go upstairs and explore different rooms. There are a lot of different sensory experiences, which was amazing You can touch the coco beans. It was really informative. If you are in the area (local or foreigner) this is definitely worth a visit.

Nothing to write home about it. It's rather small museum that briefly talks about his trip chocolate and cacao. It's located in an older building gives it a bit of an interesting fell. Overall it's okay to still buy the ticket is really inexpensive only 80 pesos but if it's out of your way don't bother.

It is interesting but expensive for the size and what it has to offer. It is a bit small and you can go around and complete the museum in less than 15minutes (without reading anything. There is also a coffee and store to buy chocolate. The store is enough if you want to spend money instead of goinf to the museum.

Nice museum. The seating outside and the small chocolate sale shop give it and extra edge.

Wonderful and unexpected experience. I recommend the guided tour, staff was full of knowledge and facts that made us appreciate chocolate more. It is full of rich history. They take you from room to room and give you a taste of the impact and labor it takes to enjoy chocolate we know today. Entrance is inexpensive and they offer tutorials and other workshops. Our tour was in Spanish and was free, unsure of English tours are available.

This is not a great museum. Not worth the cost, in my opinion, which is the same as the spectacular Anthropology Museum or the entry to Teotihuacan. CHILDREN WILL NOT ENJOY THIS as it’s essentially just reading signs with a few displays. The building itself is lovely. You will notice, however, the conspicuous blockage of the windows overlooking the adjacent tent camp that illustrates the disparity between rich and poor in the city.

A don't miss experience in Mexico City. Extraordinarily informative about the history of chocolate. A fantastic experience with children. An extraordinarily delicious café. If you are wondering what chocolate experience to have here, this would be the one to recommend. Very well thought out. A lot of hands-on activities. We were lucky and got to participate in one.

Nice time here. Very well curated with a lot of information packed in. Great for everyone who can take stairs and listen for 5-10 minutes. The child was a little fidgety during the fab talks, so I'd suggest 5 or 6 and up is best. But the sensory stuff: drawing in the cocoa powder, the chocolate room, the essence room were huge hits. At the art pop up they had outside the workshop, we made piñatas. And obviously the shop with lots of chocolate was a huge hit with everyone.

First, you get to eat a whole cocoa bean when you enter, the whole place smells like chocolate, then there's a chocolate shop on the way out. What could be more perfect? An entire room covered in chocolate. Yes. And there's some really fascinating info about chocolate production in different countries and through history. We had the richest cup of hot chocolate I've ever tasted. Very much worth $75 mx admission.

Not worth 75 pesos, the only thing we were offered was a cacao bean. No guide through out our visit and we didn't get the chance to see a whole room because they were filming, though we didn't miss out on much, the whole museum were only vintage cans or jugs used for chocolate. We sitted and waited but were annoyed and left, overall the visit could have lasted easily 10 minutes. Not to mention the area where it's set is not a pretty view, the street is closed due to homeless people setting their tents there to stay. Not very safe in my opinion, pretty lonely.

I admired chocolate store. Prices were cheap. Marshmallow chocolate was 7 pesos. Also there are some interesting flavors such as tequila chocolate. I think it’s a good gift. Chocolate is good, but I still think that Que Bo chocolate are way more better, but they are also 2 times expensive.

It's sort of small for a museum and there isn't that much to see in my opinion, even thou, to kill time is a good option. The chocolate is okay but you can buy better at other stores.

Very boring tour. You pay to hear something you can watch on YouTube that would be more exciting, In the end you don't even get free chocolate. Total RIP-off, I wouldn't come back here ever again, even the chocolate isn't fresh and doesn't taste so good.

I visited only the store for a quick stop. I loved their chocolate covered banana chips and the dark chocolate bark. We also had the pastry in the photo. They had a decent amount of options to choose from and sufficient seating. Do stop by the store after the museum tour!

Was good to see from origin to destination on how chocolate becomes chocolate. There was a Spanish only tour so had to resort to reading the English translations. Artisan chocolate is expensive but worth a try. The cafe sells some interesting chocolate drink combinations but they were tasty.

Neat chocolate museum with helpful personnel who conduct tours in English and Spanish. The building was also very beautiful and in itself, worth taking a look at. I have visited more interactive chocolate museums before that actually showed and/or let patrons participate in the making of the chocolate.

Interesting take on history of chocolate and other interesting related fact. A lot is in solely Spanish, which made it a bit hard to dive into the explanations, but it's pretty easily understood by the context. The shop is great, and very worth a visit. It's a bit overpriced for a 30 minutes attraction. I'd definitely recommend the shop and coffee though.

In a city of a million museums, Museo del Chocolate really hits a sweet spot (pun intended). This quaint establishment took under an hour to get through and left us feeling refreshed and ready to see more of the city - and not just because of the wonderful hot cocoa. Bottom line, it's super cute, smells fantastic, and can serve as a nice break of all of the big city hullabaloo.

This is random and ok for a visit if nothing else it open. It is very small! Most signs have English explanations as well. It was 70 pesos in May 2017. I read much of the history of chocolate but spent less than 30 minuites in the entire museum. The small store attached is cute.

Chocolate culture started from Mexico. It's awesome to see the history and try some Mexican chocolate.

  • 4/5 Kate T. 7 years ago on Google
Random & very charming. One of the only places open on a Monday holiday so it was a blessing! If you like odd museums you will love it. English speakers will be fine many of the info panels are in both languages. The history of chocolate in Mexico was very interesting I actually wish it was even more in depth! There were a couple rooms just strange modern art based on chocolate with not much explanation so maybe thats the temporary exhibit? If you get bored just head right to the gift shop/cafe where you can eat and buy lots of chocolate.

  • 4/5 Vancouver_Dan 2 years ago on Google
We did not go to the museum - but we bought a selection of chocolates. They did not look like much - but they were amazing! Loved the mezcal (or tequila) and lime. Also the tamarind. I wish I bought more!

Small but worth seeing it. The tour is given in spabish and it's worth taking it to learn more about chocolate. Learn how to make traditional Mexican hot chocolate, taste and learn. You can also just go in to buy artisan chocolate or buy a cold chocolate horchata to go(to cool off. )

Nice place to visit if you have an hour to spare. It’s not a huge place but it has some interesting exhibits and information on chocolate harvesting and production. Some of the signs are in English so if you don’t know Spanish you can still enjoy your visit.

A nice little museum with a chocolate shop at the end. Good for a quick 1 hour visit to learn about chocolate and history of it. Some interactive exhibits but seems like it is mostly for kids or families.

  • 5/5 Anna W. 5 years ago on Google
The museum was fairly quick to go through with small children, but very interesting and probably better for adults and older children. We also made chocolate de metate, which cost 100 pesos per person and was absolutely worth it. The man who guided us through the process was very knowledgeable and the process itself was fascinating to experience. The resulting chocolate was also delicious! I would strongly recommend this activity for older children and adults. It was only offered on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm when we visited.

After visiting Museo de Chocolate you will never see Chocolate te same way and more importantly you will not just eat anything that calls itself Chocolate in to your mouth without first confirming it contains coco in it. This is food from God and needs to be respected. Please treat your soul, visit this museum.

The tour is quite short comparing to the fee (85mxn). They have a little cafe as well. Their chocolate frappe is too sweet for me and tamal chocolate- nuez tasted good.

  • 3/5 carlos m. 1 year ago on Google
The people giving the tours are probably students and they do a good job but with the small amount of history they give I’d say this is something that could be skipped, if you want to try the chocolate drinks and sweets you don’t have to take the tour. They are delicious and worth trying.

  • 3/5 Willard H. 1 year ago on Google
Very theoretical exhibition with good historical outline of the cocoa expansion. If you are looking for recipes and a variation of the use of chocolate worldwide this might not be your place. At the entrance we were offered to taste grane of cocoa which was good but we picked from a bowl of which anyone put their hand... Healthy?

  • 4/5 Jean Paul P. 1 year ago on Google
I found a great experience on the history of Chocolate in Mexico, although the museum is very small (total visit in less than 60 minutes), it is a very nice place. The chocolate shop at the end was very crowded, but it had very good products. I highly recommend the Mole Chocolate. There's a protest camp right outside the museum, people there are harmless but may as well make some visitors uncomfortable.

  • 5/5 Intergalactic H. 1 year ago on Google
80 pesos the entry, no to much to see, better pay it for a frida museum or museo de antropología is much better.

  • 5/5 William B. 4 years ago on Google
An excellent museum that often provides an indepth presentation on a range of aspects of cacao production. I'll not bother to repeat tidbits of other quite positive reviews. Instead I'll add one that I did not see in the other reviews: The large room dedicated to arthropods and butterflies and moths that thrive on, around, or near the cacao plant. Each mounted "bug" is clearly labeled and includes the binary Latin name. The star of the show is of course the small fly--really a midge or biting midges, also known as 'no-see-ums'--that's responsible for pollinating the cacao flower. Also, the adjacent cafe serves some fine munchies that feature chocolate. Go there and venture through at a leisurely pace.
