Iconic basicila that has to be visited by everyone. Regardless of your faith, Catholics and non Catholics alike can admire the beauty of the architecture and history of the area. The culture is amazing to learn about and how it shaped the Mexico of today. It'll be more interesting if you have a guide showing you around and explaining everything to you, however going alone is still very interesting to do and you will admire everything the same. Entry is free so you don't have to pay to enter but you can always donate while inside if you'd like. Overall I can wholeheartedly recommend for everyone to visit and experience in your own

You cannot come to Mexico and not visit the Basilica, whether you are a believer or not the experience is unforgettable, hundreds of people visit daily, the process to see the image is quick, easy and free. They have moving floors (as the ones at the airport) so you can go in front of her but don't stop others, I find this to be so much more effective than other places as people cannot "gather" in front of the image and keep you from seeing her, I wish they did that at Museums around the globe. There are plenty of churches and places of worship around and the history behind all these monuments and cathedrals and churches is wonderful. Come early as the later you come the more people arrive and bring money because there plenty of souvenirs and religious articles to purchase

Beautiful basilica. Intricate and meticulous decoration within. Very crowded and busy with both local visitors and tourists. Worth a visit

A must visit in Mexico City. Provides everything you need to organize your spiritual life. Lots to see and do. It’s kinda like a Catholic theme park.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is located in Zumarraga which is around 25-30 minutes ride via Uber from Bolivar street where our hotel is located. The Basilica is huge and beautiful. There is an entrance wherein you can see the clothe where the venerated image of the Virgin. Beside the Basilica there are two old churches. If you are a Catholic this place you should not miss. The architectures are simply amazing. The two old churches are not leveled if you try to look into the details maybe because of the earthquakes and there are also some cracks. A must see if you are visiting Mexico City.

Beautiful Church. Most definitely something every believer should experience at least once in their life time. Feels very peaceful and spiritual. They do have parking near by. We went on a tour during the week and it was a lot less crowded than when we went on actual Sunday. They do the blessings on the side of the church for all your items and yourself as well. Mass its almost every hour and taking a walk to the chapel on the hill its a most.

If you are catholic and believe in virgen Mary this is a recommended place to go to. They have limitations due of the covid to enter to the basilica, we were kick out by the church staff since we did stay for the mass. We just wanted to view closely from the inside of the church. In the gate #1 you have full access to view the Guadalupe picture just a hallway with an electronic floor path access. A lot of walking in the nearby churches. Outside of the basilica there a lot of little shops good prices.

One of the main places you have to visit when you come to Mexico. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Catholic or not, it’s just a very cool experience. Many devout Catholics and tourists visit daily, the process to see the image is fast and free of charge. They have moving floors (like the ones at the airport). It’s a good idea because it prevents people from gathering and blocking the area for a good photo. Besides the basilica, there are several “parroquias” and “capillas” to enter and visit. Come early as the later you come the more people arrive and bring money because there plenty of souvenirs and religious articles to purchase. The most impressive thing to me was the statue of Mary and the Aztecs that’s behind the main plaza with the water surrounding it. Make sure you climb up the many stairs to get a view of the city! Plaza Mariana is also a place where people visit their deceased loved ones in the crypts. Highly recommend this place!

Let me tell you about how this ancient site was significant for me. I first learned about the wonderful Pope John Paul II in Poland where he was born. I just learned he made his first papal visit to Mexico in 1979, and he returned four more times in 1990, 1993, 1999, and 2002-making it one of the most visited countries during Pope John Paul II 's papacy. Here at the spectacular, Shrine of Guadalupe, there's a beautiful statue honoring him. I am receiving a world class education in Mexico! 🌎🇲🇽❤️😁🙏

One of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in Mexico City. With over 20 million visitors making the pilgrimage each year, god surely looks down upon this place with good favor. The virgin mary made appearances five times since the 1500s. Must visit in CDMX

My primary reason for this visit to CDMX. I had developed a devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and couldn’t wait to visit the Basilica. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, I had thought that the complex was just the courtyard and the surrounding churches, but there are gardens, fountains, and walking paths galore. My first visit was everything I had hoped for, there was just a palpable presence of Our Lady that followed me everywhere I went. I stopped into all the churches that were open and prayed for a few minutes in each, just enjoying the cool and quiet of each of these places which have played home to an incalculable number of conversions. I am not sure if it is because I visited two times during the week, the pandemic, or a combination of the two, but it has not been to crowded either time I have gone thus far. There are multiple shops both in and around the complex selling religious items at reasonable prices and a station for blessings near the exit to the Basilica’s shop. There are also numerous places to buy candles (most around $15MXD, about $0.75USD) and you can either light them now or place them with others which will be lit on Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day. On a practical note, there are places to eat and (paid) restrooms on the grounds. I didn’t eat there, but the bathrooms were clean and I think were only $4MXD.

I was there for a very short time since I had the opportunity and I had never been. It is a beautiful place and since it was a Monday it was not very busy at all. It had a great energy and just all around beautiful calm vibe.

If you have the opportunity to travel to Mexico City stop by this beautiful and famous place in the whole world Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. You can get peace, harmony on your soul-spirit while you have a walk around it. You have to live it! Also there are local businesses of religious items to get souvenirs for your friends and family. Very nice, peaceful and sacred place.

Very beautiful place, really recommend getting your picture taken when going up to the original church. The pictures are cheap and very beautiful. There’s a store on top that is very affordable. Very beautiful view. I also recommend staying for the entire mass. WARNING: if you go to the mercado to get food go in a group there’s a restaurant that will basically surround you a pressure you into their food when there is much cleaner and better options behind them. There’s much better food out of the basilica to but just don’t go to that group.

I was amazed. My visit was glorious. I was moved. Mexico has so many treasures such as this Basilica. I thank God for allowing to see this wonderful church. It's a church to visit. I recommend it to anyone specially the pilgrims who visit Mexico.

For my second visit to Mexico, I definitely wanted to go to this Guadalupe Temple, so I asked him to take me there. We went out on Monday because it was crowded on Saturdays and Sundays and it was difficult to park first. Since the day we went out was near December 12 (Guadalupe-sama's day), all over Mexico (Mexico is about five times as large as Japan) There were many pilgrims in each village. The appearance is different from the atmosphere of Japanese pilgrimage by ringing drums and flutes. It feels like a Japanese festival Guadalupe was displayed on the god. After passing through the gate, you will see the old temple in front and the new temple on your left. The new temple has a solemn atmosphere and is full of enthusiastic followers. A mass was being held in the temple. And there is something like a book stand in the temple Someone was writing something. Do you record even your own name? If you think That's what Guadalupe did, It is said that he prays and writes such good things and wonderful miracles. (Is it like a thank you?) I also saw something like a ballot box for elections. If you write the name of the deceased person on the box, the name will be called at the mass. The miracle cloak rides on something like a moving walkway in a new temple I looked up high and visited. It's wonderful, I was impressed. (But photography is difficult) After that, go to the souvenir shop in the temple I'm not a Christian, but I bought a rosary. In addition, there are souvenir shops on the basement floor. On Saturdays and Sundays, like temples, it's so crowded that you can't even enter the souvenir shop in the underground parking . I went out and then visited the old temple. I also took a closer look at the real confession room for the first time. (I felt the air was a little different) The local people also said that they could not visit the old temple for a long time due to the land subsidence. (Now you can reinforce and tour) There are many people who come to pilgrimage from all over Mexico, and in such a place I felt grateful to be able to take a short tour from Japan.

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a beautiful collection of churches all in the same space. There are beautiful gardens here and stunning paintings. It is crazy to think the cathedral here may not last much longer with how it is sinking. You can’t go into the cathedral right next to the Basilica for safety reasons. I was glad I visited.

Such a profound experience to know that the image inside of the basilica was a gift from God himself. It has not been scientifically proven to be man made. (mask mandatory, $5Pesos for restroom, no toilet seats bring your own TP)

I went to his place because of 100,000+ Google reviews and I must say, one of the best places to visit in Mexico city. Wonderful architecture inside the basilica..Peaceful, spacious and pretty well maintained. I felt relaxed after going inside and stayed for a while, watching people's prayers. Recommended place.

Lots of people here but that is to be expected. It’s an amazing place to visit and I recommend getting a guide if possible. Mass is every hour on the hour. They have a shop inside the new basilica as well as an official shop by one of the chapels. Great prices. Make sure to get your items blessed. The blessing chapel is in the left by the new basilica. The old basilica is sinking so be careful as you will get dizzy fast.

It’s simply beautiful. There’s mass here. There’s a movie that plays of the the Virgin de Guadalupe. It’s kept clean and it’s wonderful how people of all backgrounds come here. There was a homeless man coming in to confess and no one saw him treated him badly. Everyone here was respectful to one another.

It’s certainly a place to visit. If you want to see spirituality of the people, their unity and devotion - that’s a place to go. Unfortunately the smaller church was closed for public due to Covid, but even to walk around is worth a trip. I made it there with Didi, however, it’s an easy ride by metro as well.

It was an amazing experience!!! If you're in the area go!!! You can also purchase souvenirs and have them blessed to take home. I recommend purchasing inside the basilica and not in the stores nearby. Or you could if you so choose and then tale them to get blessed We got rained on during our visit but it was still so worth it ! Definitely a must visit if you're in Mexico City

Such a beautiful and well planned building! You can go on moving walkways beneath the display of Juan Diego's Tilma on which Our Lady of Guadaloupe miraculously appeared and whatever sounds you make will not disturb the hourly Masses!

Amazing to see the scale of this place with five different churches and room for tens of thousands of pilgrims. None of the churches seem particularly spectacular, especially the newest one; quite a miss from an architectural standpoint. But if you have religious feelings, it could be a deeply moving experience to visit here.

I enjoyed visiting and do understand the reason, but you can't go in the churches unless attending a full mass. The substitute church you just go in underground and then come out. Basically, you don't see anything other then the buildings, which you can Google. It's neat to see the building tilted but it's not worth any admission. If you could see the inside then maybe. So I'd pass unless paRt of a tour

A really interesting piece of architecture that is well worth the journey outside of the centre of Mexico City to visit. You can get here by using the Hop On Hop Off bus which is the cheapest option and it is a great spot to visit and have a look around.

Magnificent compound with many chapels to see and meander around. There is definitely a presence in this area. I recommend at least 2 hours to take it in. The gift shop has rosaries and other icons to buy and you can get them blessed by a priest on the side of the church at the “Bendiciones” station. Blessings??????

It is all about Faith. But also a great cultural place to visit for non-Christians. Nearby are two old basilicas that are a must to visit.

  • 5/5 Shelby E. 4 years ago on Google
Check out the nearby original basilica for the most interesting architecture - definitely go inside said original to sense the leaning and the amazing science that must have gone into shoring it up after all the city sinking and earthquakes. Note the cracks. The cloak is worth visiting in the newish basilica, which considering the age, wasn't entirely uninteresting itself.

Inspiring! The pilgrims, the liturgy every hour, beautiful historic church's that tell the history of this amazing miracle and, of course, the miraculous tilma itself. The devotion of the pilgrims is only awe inspiring and yet it pales in comparison to the love of Our Lady for all of us.

I am giving a 5 star review to this beautiful Basilica because I love our Holy Mother of Guadalupe, however I was a little bit angry to see way too many vendors around this sanctuary. I understand everybody needs to work but when you see guys with images of the Holy Mother and a stuffed donkeys on kind of photo booths, waiting for you to have them take you a picture within the sanctuary land, to me that was not right. It looked more like an amusement park. The Shrine is beautiful and I have to say the Mexican authorities were really smart when deciding to install a moving band right behind the main altar were the holy Mother Image is. It allows people to move quick out of the way so everybody has the opportunity to see the image and take the picture they always wanted. The second area I found way too beautiful was the original or old basilica. Sadly we all know it is sinking, but walking inside of it is a must. It was kind of odd but I felt more spirituality while walking inside that one than by the new modern one. Mexican authorities are trying their best to preserve it. The top of the Cerro del Tepeyac, visiting this Basilica and not walking all the way up the hill or cerro del Tepeyac is a big mistake. We were told the Holy Mother first appeared to Sand Juan Diego on the top of this cerro. There is a beautiful chapel which was by far the most spiritual space of the three. We could feel that peaceful environment while people were praying inside. While walking down the hill, use the left hand side sidewalks and steps so you can see the amazing statues the authorities built to honor the Holy Mother and the originals. That is an incredible piece of history and faith, and is by far the best area to get a perfect picture of your journey around this beautiful holy place.

It's a local landmark and a must see if you're into religion or into history. The main church has masses all day and you can preview the Guadalupe Frame. Its a cool place to check out. You can be in and out within an hour. The coolest part is the climb in the nearby hill to view a part of the city.

For 5 pesos you can go from the center to basílica by metro. It’s really easy to take the metro in Mexico and cheap, it’s not dangerous just always keep an eye on your things and you’ll be good. Basílica totally worth it to go there.

Recently visited the basilica and it was an amazing experience. The entrance to enter is free and it is located near the Main Street. I took an uber XL from the city center where the tour buses are located, I paid 160 pesos for my family of 5 and I preferred to uber directly instead of the tour bus because I wasn’t interested in the other stops the tour bus made along the way to the basilica. Also I roughly took 3 hours taking pictures, eating and attention mass at 12pm. You can also visit the original church on top of the hill and along the way you can get food and drinks. Overall a must see attraction if you are staying in Mexico City.

There are many people who make promises to the virgen and there mission is to climb to the very top and pay the homage for the miracle by the holy Virgen Guadalupe Queen of Mexico. I am one of those people. I completed my mission and gave offering. It literally feels like your climbing the stairway to heaven. Every step you take up you keep thinking one more step I'm almost there. Then there another flight and another flight of stairs. You finally arrive and there a cemetery first the another flight of stairs . Little shops then finally you reach the highest point and the view is incredible. And the feeling of accomplishment is rewarding. The serenity of were San Diego once saw the virgen on that epic day. Enjoy every step you take up the little mountain. I hope it brings you the peace you are seeking and solemenity for your mind and soul. May the spirit of the lord guide you on your travels to this holy place.

It’s an impressive church representative of the Spanish colonial times. You must see the all silver altar! Access its free and normally there aren’t very many people. The pipe organ I stalled on the second floor is massive. It’s next to the famous Recoleta cemetery.

Great building, wonderful architecture and nicely organized for tourists to visit. The old and new places are next to each other and the chapel up the hill is a good walk. The square was very bid and busy.

This is a place of peace and absolute beauty all around. Take time to pray, walk to the top temple, and walk the gardens back down. In the main church, even during a mass, you can go behind and below the pulpit and organ to observe or revere a painting of Lady Guadalupe. Annually on Dec 11, 12 for two days there is a pilgrimage of a sea of believers in the avenue leading up to the Basilica. I recommend visiting late afternoon from 4 pm or 5 pm to watch the sunset above the Basilica, there are less people and an additional parking garage in the back open late until late about 9 pm or 10 pm.

One of a kind place, these Churches are unique in many ways. It is a must to come to see if you come to Mexico City. Also, don't forget to visit the Historic Civic Center, their palaces, museums, the Basilica Church and the ruins that are now exposed when they remodeled some parts of the ground. These Aztecs' ruins and their temples/pyramids were covered by the Spaniards in order to erased Mexico's history but it is now coming out to remember the great Aztec empire🤗

There are three churches. The largest one when you first enter is the new one, It holds the shroud / vestment/ robe that has the projection of the Virgin Mary. You view it on a moving walkway. (Which is awesome because no one stands in your way). The second church is the old church, it's beautiful and houses many works of art. The third chapel sits atop the mountain. It's about 8- 10 flights of stairs, but there are also ramps. The ramps are a very steep incline. It's small, but absolutely stunning at the top. I highly recommend traveling to the top if you can. Photos are not allowed in the chapel on the top of the mountain. Visitors are not allowed in the church during the hours of service (worship).

For devout Catholics with a special love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, a visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe can be transformative. This sacred site holds a special place in the hearts of millions, and it truly exemplifies the deep devotion and spirituality that radiate from every corner. The high Mass held at the Basilica filled me with a heightened connection to the Divine and the closeness of the Blessed Mother. Exploring the various shrines on the Basilica complex was like embarking on a sacred journey, each step deepening my appreciation for the miracles and blessings associated with Our Lady of Guadalupe. The atmosphere of prayer and reflection at the chapels dedicated to different aspects of Our Lady's intervention. The garden walk surrounding the Basilica provided a peaceful respite amidst the bustling environment, allowing me to immerse myself in moments of contemplation and gratitude. The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a pilgrimage destination that truly embodies the essence of Catholic devotion. The spiritual energy and the vibrant faith of the people who visit this holy site are inspiring. It is a place where one can witness the transformative power of faith and experience the loving presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Such an amazing place of worship. The Basilica is massive. To get to Basilica is very easy and is accessible through metro or metrobús. There is a gift shop with a wide array of religious items. There are masses rather frequently and confessions are done regularly.

Beautiful church. Plenty to see and explore. Definitley bring water and a hat if youre visiting in the summer and a couple pesos for the bathroom. It was 5 pesos per person in the ladies bathroom and 1 pesos per meter of 1 ply toilet paper.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a beautiful place to visit. Alot of history here to learn and explore the grounds here. I strongly recommend you visit here during the week when there are fewer crowds compared to the weekend. Mass is held every day, and hours vary.

If you are here for the spiritual part then there is nothing to complain about. However if you are expecting something similar to Fatima or Lourdes you may get a bit disappointed. The architecture of the new basilica is not my favourite. Also there is this massive concrete square that makes the place feel less welcoming. The old basilica and the other facilities are beautiful.

A visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is an immersive and deeply spiritual experience. Whether you are a religious pilgrim, a history enthusiast, or simply a curious traveler, this iconic site offers a profound connection to Mexican culture, faith, and tradition. The beauty, history, and devotion found within the basilica make it a truly remarkable destination that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

Great experience!! It was my first time visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The first day, it wasn't crowded, but the second day, there were lots of pilgrims

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and it was absolutely stunning. The old basilica had a 2.7% tilt, which was corrected to 2% in 2002, stabilizing the structure. The architecture and design of the church left me gasping and gave me chills all over my skin. However, I do recommend having a guide with you to explain the rich history behind this incredible landmark. It can get quite crowded, so plan accordingly. If you're planning a visit to Mexico City, this is a must-see destination!

Basilica in Guadalupe is a huge site. It is a Christian Catholic religious site. It has huge historic significance. It is one of the early site where a church was built and became popular among the locals. Later on, it became a significant site when Miguel Hidalgo included its symbol, and when U.S. and Mexico signed peace treaty there. There are a number of churches and chapels there. This is incidentally the second largest visited Catholic site after the Vatican. The new Basilica is an architectural beauty.

I have no words to describe how beautiful this place is. I went early so it was perfect. The later you go the more crowded it is. The museum is amazing. The art is beautiful. You feel a tremendous peace.

I went with a group of about 7 as a tour group. The Basilica is an amazing place and very well maintained. If you are Catholic there is the obvious spiritual connection you will feel visiting here. Also there is mass offered every hour on the hour when the shrine is open. If you are not Catholic the architecture and art are still very much worth the trip. As with many buildings in Mexico City, some of the structures here are sinking and you can see this very clearly from the main square. Finally crowds- crowds will be at their highest on Sunday mornings and of course on certain Holy Days. The feast day of December 12th will probably be mobbed as I was told as many as 2 million pilgrims show up on that day.

I made the trip to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe fifty years ago with my family and can remember as an impressionable fifteen-year-old seeing the faithful walk on hands and knees to the shrine. Now the devoted ride by the image of the virgen revealed to Juan Diego on a conveyor belt.

Huge new church with great modern design, surrounded by 2 older smaller churches. The 2nd biggest christian pilgrimage site in the world, after Vatican.

Basilica de Guadalupe is an essential visit for anyone, but as a Catholic, it holds a profound significance. The serenity and sheer beauty of the place engulfed me with a sense of peace and awe. Being able to witness the Virgen de Guadalupe multiple times was a deeply moving experience. This sacred site exudes a tranquility that touched my soul.

This is a most when visiting Mexico City even if you are not Catholic! A beautiful church, the hsitory the new and old chruches are awesome, there is s sense of something special. The only downside ( as in too many places in Mexico City) is as the surrounding areas, which are dirty, the traffic is bad, street vendors obstructing the streets, etc. I have not seen the shape of the parking lot of the Basilica, but it is a plus, they also have a nice selction if souvenirs at their store, and you can have your purchaes blesed right there on one side.of the main basilica. In any case, I'd rather taking and uber and ask to be dropped off at one of the entrances. Either way is worth the visit.

Very beautiful experience and a warm atmosphere feeling once you enter in there. Even if you're not Catholic or don't believe in the Virgen Mary, there's something extraordinary and magnificent about this place and the original tilma that has withstand centuries of the earthly materials and particles. I suggest read the history of this tilma and apparition along with the many encounters people have accidently and internationally tried to destroy this miraculous tilma. There's physical proof of the many "stains" and "marks" like the individual who accidently spilled an acid chemical on the tilma and nothing happened. I recommend every Catholics to visit the basilica at least once in their life even for open minded Christians, monotheistic religions, and others belief to witness this wonderful palace and learn the history of the apparition and the birth of modern Mexico
