I went on Monday night around 21:00. The person at the door said Sunday was the other slow night. (Friday and Saturday being the busiest.) I had a great time. My advice is to eat before you come and just order beer. Pay with cash. Some of the other reviews complain of slow service and payment problems. The room has beer-hall seating and is noisy-fun. So taking large dinner orders and making complicated drinks would be difficult on a busy night. I came with cash for the bands. The prices are on the wall ($150MX for a group and $80MX for the soloist/duets.) This is not the lowest price that you could get out on the plaza, but the quality is better with the house bands at Tenampa. (I tried both outside on the plaza, and inside Tenampa.) The other reason to avoid the outside plaza is a sewer smell.

This is a fun place to enjoy live mariachi music while overlooking Plaza Garibaldi. The musicians will play a song for a small few (150 pesos) which is worth the experience. I ordered the cheese fondue with chorizo and it was good as well. Service is quick and staff are pleasant, overall it was a good experience

The food at this restaurant was amazing, each dish bursting with flavor. The waiter impressed me with their professionalism and kindness. A highlight of our visit was the Mariachi music, which brought a vibrant and authentic atmosphere. Although the prices are a bit high, they're justified by the excellent location and top-notch service. Overall, the combination of great food, live Mariachi music, and attentive service made for a memorable dining experience.

READ BEFORE GOING Im only giving 3 stars cuz the show was amazing and the food as good, but these guys are kinda scammers that after we had the dinner that the card system wasn’t working and we needed to go to the atm to bring cash. First they came to say that the system just went down, but then another waiter came and told us that it was already a week without system.

Great atmosphere. They had a live mariachi band. Many mixed cocktails to choose from, a variety of tequilas and beers. A definite stop if in the Garibaldi area.

Excelente as always. Highly recommended. Also when going please check your promotions because there’s usually 2x1 cocktails deals. Also highly recommend el mocajete. Good for sharing for the price. Also waiter service is fantastic. My waiter jose was super excellent in taking my order and fast in being the food.

Honestly, when you get to Plaza Garibaldi it can be a drag because everyone is trying to pull you their restaurants but avoid all that drama and head to Salon Tenampa. Very reasonably priced and if it’s your birthday they hook you up with a 2x1 tequila bottle special. Mariachis there are great and their service is up there as well. If you are looking for a great night out with Mariachi look no further.

This was a whole experience!!!! We were seated right away, informed of the specials and given time to look over the menu. The food was absolutely amazing- there was a huge variety on the menu, authentic home style Mexican food that is well prepared and is hardy and flavorful! The atmosphere was loud, boisterous and filled with mariachis playing! THIS IS MEXICO! if you want to dive right in and embrace everything Mexico, come here and eat or have drinks. *Note-there are food and drink specials. The waiters should tell you the specifics on the drinks, but sometimes people miss those details and are upset when the specials don't show up on the bill. When our waiter brought the bill he had written the tip amount on the back of the receipt in case I wanted to include it with my payment. The prices were very reasonable service was impeccable! We started with a frozen margarita and a michelada, our drinks came out right away so we could drink and contemplate what we wanted to eat. I chose my favorite-pozole rojo and a side order of nopales. The pozole came out with all of the proper garnishes and tostadas, the nopales were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My bf got tacos de arrechera y consomé de pollo, and he said his food was excellent! We asked for more limes, Tajín and tortillas and everything was brought over right away. I will definitely be back! *Also note, when you get to plaza Garibaldi, you will get bombarded with people trying to get you to rent a mariachi and go to other restaurants, we had one guy go as far as to try to convince us that they were not selling food at this time!! DO NOT ENTERTAIN OR LISTEN TO THESE GUYS, THEY ARE SUPER ANNOYING AND IN YOUR FACE.

Lively and mesmerizing experience, apparently the most representative of the Mexican way of having a nice time. The mariachi never stops playing here, and you are never bored. Very decently priced food and drinks and excellent service. If you are on a Mexican vacation, this is most definitely recommended.

One of my all-time favorite places in Mexico City. Here you can savor many of the things that make México the world wonder that it is. Steeped in history, enjoy mariachi magic and delicious food and drink while some of the musical legends of the past look down on you from the wall murals. The pozole here is one of the best around if you ask me. It doesn't get much better than this.

This place s a true gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience. Nestled in the heart of the vibrant cultural district, it combines delicious cuisine, lively entertainment, and a charming ambiance that immersed us in the rich traditions of Mexican music and cuisine. The moment we stepped into the Restaurant, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The décor exudes a classic Mexican charm, with colorful murals, traditional artwork, and rustic furnishings that transport you to a bygone era. The restaurant pays homage to the renowned Plaza Garibaldi, known as the birthplace of Mariachi music, and successfully captures the essence of its cultural significance. The menu is a delightful showcase of authentic Mexican flavors. From traditional favorites to regional specialties, each dish is meticulously prepared using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. Whether you're indulging in mouthwatering tacos, savoring flavorful enchiladas, or enjoying the rich flavors of mole, the culinary offerings at Tenampa never disappoint. The extensive drink menu features a wide selection of beers, tequilas and mezcal, perfect for complementing your meal and enhancing the overall dining experience. Adding to the charm of Tenampa is the live Mariachi music that fills the air. Talented musicians serenade guests with soulful melodies and infectious rhythms, creating an atmosphere of celebration and joy. The passionate performances captivate diners, providing a truly immersive cultural experience that sets Tenampa apart from other restaurants in the area. The attentive and friendly staff further enhanced our dining experience. They are knowledgeable about the menu, always ready to offer recommendations, and ensure that we felt welcomed and well taken care of. The service is prompt, and the staff's genuine hospitality added a personal touch. I think this is a must-visit destination. The combination of delicious cuisine, live Mariachi music, and warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that truly captures the essence of Mexican traditions. This is true culinary and cultural treasure in Mexico City that left us with cherished memories of an exceptional dining experience.

Must stop if you go to the mariachi plaza. We got the guacamole with fried ribeye chicharrones and it was to die for. We got BOGO margaritas on a Thursday late afternoon The molcajete was MASSIVE it could have feed 3 people You pay the mariachi band to play at your table, there is a small band that’s cheaper and a bigger better band that’s more per song. Price is written on the wall

The ONLY place to go in Garibaldi if you want to eat/drink in a place that won’t rip you off — mariachi bands make the rounds, buy a few songs and enjoy the raucous atmosphere. Food/drinks reasonably priced — great service, fun night!

I love this place, it is a really good place to have fun with live mariachi. It’s has a good balance between great Mexican dishes, drinks and experience.

Must visit! You can tell the waiters to invite a mariachi band and give them around 5€ to sing a traditional mariachi song for your table. It is a historic place where many of the most important singers (and not only) of Mexico gathered.

The food there is great and live music is really a thing! I’d definitely come again when will be in Mexico City, it such a fun and authentic! I’d recommend to take a beer with guacamole or rib eye steak and spend an evening in a circle of friends or meet new friends right there

The food I had (pazole) was very good, can't complain about that, but this place is commercial. Just the way they crowd you to take your order (I went for lunch when it wasn't crowded) and the fact that the (VOLUNTARY) service charge is added in the bill. Didn't like that at all. Also the 2x1 drinks were weak and they brought both out at the same time, which makes no sense because the second one just sits there and gets watery from the ice. Come on. Anyway, I'll still say nice atmosphere, and the food was good (that's why 4 stars). But it seems it's all prepared ahead of time because it literally came out 2 mins after I ordered it...same for drinks.

Margaritas were great and the variety of mezcal is awesome. However, we found the service unsatisfactory, and a bit trying to force big tips. Atmosphere is alright.

This place is historically significant for its ties to mariachi music in CDMX, its a cool experience where you'll be surrounded by mariachi bands and other musicians from Veracruz. Unfortunately the place has become a tourist trap, the food is fine, but not good. The service is quite poor, we had to ask for cutlery several times, and follow up on parts of our order several times. In our group of 5 the food arrived about 5 minutes apart

The OG mariachi place. Inside is a bit loud with the people talking and competing bands playing. But super colorful and I loved all the original mariachis paintings. Outside it was fun to listen but the smell from the sewer was quite overwhelming. The food was okay as were the drinks. Would still choose this place just for the reputation.

It is a great place if you go with the right attitude: to sing with the mariachi, drink, get a little crazy. It’s not a place for nice eating or just to sit and drink. It requires energy and money for paying the musicians and having a good time.

  • 4/5 Jon S. 1 year ago on Google
An interesting experience. Something we are glad we did but something not sure I would want to do again. Mariachi bands were playing the entire time and sometimes 2 at a time. Super loud and hard to have a normal conversation. Food was decent and one nice find was the beer in a Bloody Mary style.

If you want a true Mariachi experience this is your place! Great atmosphere and we had a blast. It's best if you go with someone local for safety, although there was strong police presence

To be honest I was a little disappointed. The history of the place is a tad overwhelming. And we were there during happy hours. I’ve had better mango margaritas and better strawberry margaritas back home. The mariachi bands playing table side were an interesting side show!

The experience at this restaurant was one that I would only get here. Service was great. The mariachis were amazing, they had more than 5 groups playing in the first floor so great music the whole night. The food was great too. If you're going to Garibaldi this place should be in your list

I had high expectations when we went there, since Uber driver suggested and really good Google review. But unfortunately We are being "suggested" to go somewhere else. Because they are busy (they do have seats tho) and we don't drink.

I recommend sitting at the top of the balcony bae and i ate there while mariachis played for us and others around us. We enjoyed their food and environment. Caution when checking out. A gentleman was charging us more than what we purchased. Great experence overall.

We visited this bar/restaurant on accident while in Plaza Garibaldi and it was by far one of the better decisions we made this trip! Inside you're going to find so many different musicians, as well as a lot of beautiful art that shows the history of Mexico! We ordered about 16 tequila shots and like 10 cocktails, as well as a fondu with chorizo and it came out to 3,000 MXN about 150 dollars! Oh and I almost forgot.... about 6 beers! So definitely not the cheapest night out in the city, but totally worth it, as the bar first opened in 1925 and what you're paying for here is the name and the atmosphere! The mariachis cost about 50 pesos per song, but you can negotiate with them and get a package deal, which is what we noticed most people were doing! Not going to lie the area is very dangerous at night and you shouldn't walk around outside alone! The restaurant itself is very safe and you order off of ipads! 🤯🇲🇽

Went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. You have to order food if you're drinking alcohol which was expected. They bait and switched the promotion for drinks though. we ordered the 2x1 margaritas and even asked about it to double check for time of day, etc. then they asked on the rocks or frozen so we said frozen would be great. Bill comes and no promotion pricing because apparently it's only if you get it on the rocks even though it's not stated anywhere on the menu and they didn't tell us up front.
