A very clean nature preserve that's worthy of a day trip. We took a 20 minute drive to a beach where we took a short trip on a small boat to a beautiful beach where there were vendors and food. The water was clear and there were small fish swimming around. Definitely a good day trip.

June 25 2022 I do not recommend it at this time. This place, apart from being a beautiful reserve, is currently in very poor condition for access to the beaches and other activities, the rains have turned the access roads into mud, we were all desperate to get out of there as soon as possible, the mud reached us half a leg and many tourists choose to rent horses to be able to move forward and this makes everything even worse, only 30% of the roads are made of wood, the rest of the access is through very narrow stones, dirt roads, streams, and areas of much vegetation with almost no access, food is expensive, and it is not safe for older adults or infants, there is no assistance in case of emergencies during the walk and you have to buy insurance worth 5000 Colombian pesos and I only saw 2 people supposed to help at the beginning and almost at the end of the trail.

I am only writing about the main tourist entrance called el zaino? It’s so overrated. Went here twice just for the beach and with friends but it’s a sweaty two hour hike to the nice beach to swim. Cabo San Juan. The beach is nice but I went during low season and it was pretty busy. The hike itself isn’t amazing or anything beautiful. To be fair. I didn’t enter from the other entrances. If you’re going to come to this park, you have to stay overnight

This entrance is called "Zaino", when you arrived, do not talk to the sellers/agents on the street, you should get the insurance in a kiosk next to the entrance of the park, it cost 6.000 pesos per day, it's mandatory and it will cover in case of accident, inside the park you can find the tends with the logo of the Zebra, first aid and ambulance. The entrance fee during low season (today is 24th of February) cost 33.000 for Colombians and 73.500 for foreigners. It will take one hour by foot to reach the park trail or you can take a white car for 5.000 pesos. After that you need to walk one hour more to reach Arrecifes, there you can find the expensive Tequendama hotel (203.000 for camping per night and 70.000 for hammock) and 2-3 other cheap places for camping, I recommend Bermudez or Don Pedro , it's very basic, shared toilets/showers and Wi-Fi , you get what you paid (60.000 per night for camping). Walking 10 minutes after Arrecifes you will find Arenilla beach, then 10 minutes more to reach La Piscina and 20 minutes more to reach Cabo San Juan. El Cabo is the most popular spot among the foreigners, camping there costs 70.000 pesos per night, a bottle of water 4.000 pesos, breakfast 20.000 and lunch 45.000 pesos. After El Cabo, you will find Playa Media and Nudist beach. If you like hiking, I recommend you to go to Pueblito. It's not worthy to do a day trip, it would be better to stay at least one night. If you are tired of walking , you can rent a horse to go back for 60.000 pesos or take a boat to Taganga for 80.000 pesos. If you want to avoid tourists, you can stay at Castillete Casa de Campo, camping per person cost 80.000 pesos with breakfast and swimming pool, the infrastructure is better than the ones at Arrecifes and the service of the new management is excellent. Means you will be close to the entrance and far from El Cabo. When leaving the park, there is a placed called Anita next to the road , there you can find a good set meal "Corrientazo" for 20.000 pesos, Wi-Fi and toilet. Bring a good mosquito repellent, sun screen, sport/hiking shoes, cash and flip flops. Keep in mind that the park closes 3 times per year.

Large natural park with amazing scenery and beaches. Bring cash for entry (more for foreigners), boat trips to the nice beaches, and any food and drinks while you’re there. Get a “tent” so you have shade.

Gorgeous and a must see! Did the 5 mile hike to Cabo San Juan to camp in the tents off the beach, and it was absolutely worth it.

Eh. Lots of walking for moderately clear water. Took 2.5-3 hours to walk to El Cabo from the El Zaino entrance, and my girl and I walk really fast. Did see some monkeys on the way, but they were only in two trees.

Many people!!! It can be frustrating to walk stick behind someone. Either go early or spend the night there. Beautiful landscape and many opportunities to see wild life.

Beautiful place, gorgeous beaches and a must go for hikers, for newcomers please keep and eye on the signs and DO NOT go into the turtle beaches, as people walk they compress the sand and when baby turtles hatch they are unable to reach the surface and die.

Incredible beaches! But depending on the entrance you take to enter the park, no paths to walk. We entered through the entrance to Neguanje. You have to either have your own transportation (the road is not in the best condition and there are some parts of it that are submerged by water of the daily rains, be warned) or hire a moto-taxi on the corner of the main road. Count on 60k per person for the moto-taxi to Playa Neguanje. The driver will go with you to Playa Crystal, but will charge you extra. Either you can take the boat from Playa Neguanje to Crystal (70k/pp one-way, I'm told) the driver comes with you unless you specifically tell them not to, I guess. There's also the option to walk from Playa Neguanje to Playa Crystal (although they tell you it's prohibited at the entrance of the park). The walk takes about 30 minutes and is a little bit adventurous (but not overly so). The driver comes with you, but will charge you for the walk. We gave something for their trouble (2 drivers).

Great place to visit. The hike in is great if you like to walk. Could be a little challenging if not. It's approximately 7km each way if you decide to walk. You can also take a horse one of the directions or both if you choose. You will come across indigenous people also lots of wildlife such as monkeys and crocodiles! And then time to relax at the beautiful beaches!

Tropical paradise! Such beautiful energy in this natural treasure, were the jungle and the beach collide to create this magnificent landscape and views. The walk through the jungle is amazing, the monkeys greet from the trees and the Kogi indigenous people sell fruit and coconut along the trail. The Cabo San Juan beach is a great place to rest and if you want to camp I would recommend this place to do it, restaurant there is pretty good as well.

Amazing place!!! Lot of hiking trails and lot of wonderful beaches. You can see all sorts of wildlife here! But be careful the weather is most of the time very hot and humid here! (Crocs on the beach are possible)

Beautiful natural park. We heard it could be really busy, but early September was ok, not too crowded. The walk to Cabo San Juan from the main entrance (El Zaino) can be tricky, mostly because of the heat (6km one way). Beaches area really wonderful if you like natural beaches and the water is warm and blue. We recommend, if you have time for a day trip from Santa Marta. Even saw some monkeys along the way.

Great Park, got to see some beautiful beaches, birds, monkeys, lizards and colourful butterflies! Highly recommend, easy to get tickets at gate arrive around 8 or 9 am queues can take long. We paid 68k entrance along with another 5k medical cover. Take the shuttle bus inside gate, saves you walking road as beaches are another 2 hrs from where it leaves you. Take a packed lunch if you can it's expensive in the park. Stay close by the park if you have time, Costeño Beach is lovely. Park opens until about 6 currently.

7km hike to Cabo San Juan. About 75-80m elevation. Most ups and downs at the start. Bring hiking shoes. Not wet in January. Closed at certain times of year. Took 6am bus from mercado publico and it cost 9000 cop and took 1 hour. Got in for free to tayrona im not sure why.

Some beautiful views along the way and the Piscina beach is nice and clean (though nothing exceptional). However, getting there is a huge hassle, as the trails are not regularly sign-posted or well maintained (no bridges over large swathes meaning when it rains you need to trudge through knee-deep mud and wet sand for most of the way, and also try to avoid frequent horse poo). For the entry fee, would have expected better. If you enjoy jungle hiking you will like this, but for the beach it's not worth a 2h walk each way.

a must if you visit the Santa Marta’s region, amazing nature, beaches and views. A few tips: bring with you a lot of water, cash (everything inside the park is paid with cash), insect repellent, cap 🧢 and sunscreen. If you want to take the hyke at least training shoes (not heels and flip flops) or trekking shoes.

After a long drive to get there it was worth the wait. Going on the boat to the beach was fun. Once we got there the views were spectacular. If you don't like fish to eat then you very limited. The local sweets and drinks were very good. Had a great time here

Just go, it's a beautiful experience, be prepared for long walks inside the jungle, bring coconut with you if you like monkeys, they might appear and if they see your coconut, the whole gang will show up.

Amazing experience. I went in a rainfall season so I couldn’t dive into the waters and the path was muddy and savage to cross. And I say that as positive, if you enjoy some randonné yourself, this is the perfect place near Santa Marta. You’ll find yourself with other tourists and a feeling of safety during your walk. Also be prepared to meet Colombia’s mangrove swamps, just be sure to not have cuts on your feet and to clean them properly after your walk. There is also a selection of treetop bungalows and a camping area to stay the night.

Tayrona National Park in Colombia is a breathtaking natural haven, boasting stunning landscapes and pristine beaches. Its beauty lies not only in the crystal-clear waters but also in the rich biodiversity and lush greenery that make it a true paradise for nature enthusiasts. A visit to Tayrona promises a serene escape, allowing you to connect with the raw, untouched beauty of the Colombian coast.

Beautiful beaches! We spent a few days here staying in the various hostels and even sleeping in a hammock (was freezing because of the wind but so worth it). You can walk throughout the park or can ride horses at certain points. A must visit if you are travelling in Colombia.

Great place, amazing nature, stunning beaches. We saw a lot of trash tho maybe because there weren't many trash bins (of course this doesn't mean to throw the trash in the nature). The trekking is not good signaled so be sure to ask other people when not sure for the way.

Speechless!!! The highlight of my trip in Colombia. I started the hike from Calabazo entrance, all the way to Playa Brava. It lasted 3hours (I walk fast, I’m a personal trainer, and stopped for photos). But let me tell you, this is NOT an easy hike. If you don’t have the physical condition, don’t go this route on your own. There’s no reception, and only one spot to fill your water bottle along the way. Personally, that’s exactly what I wanted tho. Arrived at Playa Brava, I hired a spot to attach my own hammock (but most people sleep in the provided hammocks) and stayed over for the night after a warm diner and a short dip in the ocean. The morning after, I packed up my stuff and started the hike to go to Cabo San Juan. Magnificent, but as hard as the one from the day before. It went on for 3 hours of steep hills in the hot and humid jungle. Cabo San Juan is beautiful but overcrowded. I only went there for lunch, but I walked back to the nudist beach to chill and swim, and because it was empty. The camp in Cabo San Juan did not appeal me at all, way too many people, so I decided to make my way to the Zaino exit/entrance, with a quick stop at La Pisina beach. The walk is very beautiful but not as pleasant, because it’s flat and flooded with tourists and locals. In conclusion: Return trip from Zaino: if you don’t have much time on your trip, not very sporty but enjoy long hikes on relatively flat ground. You will end up at Cabo San Juan but can also stop at different beaches along the way. Return trip from Calabazo: if you’re into adventurous hikes through steep hills in the jungle, are sporty, and if you intend to camp at Playa Brava. In both cases, start early. PS: I wasn’t asked for my Yellow fever vaccine, but my passport was required.

This is an incredible nacional park, the beaches are beautiful and the wildlife surrounding you has you feeling like your in a zoo. The question here is for as high as the entrance tickets are for foreigners, the money is not used appropriately for the park. The walking paths are destroyed, the horses use the same paths as you leaving you knee deep in mud. This park has the potential to be one of the best, but there is definitely some corruption with how the money is used. What a shame.

Awesome place with great views and a secluded, no wifi/cell service, area. Cabo San Juan is your best spot for a "all in one" location, but be prepared for a camping style trip. I highly suggest riding a horse in and riding a boat out.

The entrance closest to Santa Marta is about 1 hour to drive. The tickets are better to buy at the entrance but there is a 30 min wait line(queue). There are a lot of buses. It takes about 1 hour to drive to the beach. The road is very bumpy. We took a boat to Cinto(beach). My kids swam in the water all day. The food there however, is not very good. Our hotel is on Cinto. The hotel is nice, my kids have a bunk bed and they love bunk beds. My kids played on the beach, they made a little 'private beach' 😂. They also have 2 parrots, you can feed them. If you walk down the beach, there is a bigger beach. But you have to walk through some ticks. It is slippery 🚧!! We saw some sting rays. The way back to the exit was bumpy but we had a bigger boat.
